Huawei Watch D may launch on Dec 23 with precise blood pressure tracking

Huawei is gearing up for an upcoming event, which is scheduled for 23 December 2021. The event would likely have the company launching a number of new products, one of which may includes the Watch D smartwatch.

According to an XDADevelopers report, the Chinese tech giant is planning on launching a new wearable later this month during the December 23 event. Apart from the usual features that modern day smartwatches offer, the new Watch D will even feature precise blood pressure monitoring as well. This feature is similar to the one that is currently offered by the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, which was the first to introduce this technology on wearables.

Huawei Watch D

Although, the Watch D is expected to be released for a price lower than the Galaxy Watch 4 series. Notably, the smartwatch will likely support Huawei Health app as well, which would allow users to keep and track a detailed history of their blood pressure results and monitor any changes. Unfortunately, not much information is known regarding this device apart from its highlighting feature as of right now. However, the December 23 launch is in line with our previous report regarding a December release timeline for the Watch D. So stay tuned for more updates.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra could be called the S22 Note, tipster suggests

A reliable tipster has hinted that the priciest from the upcoming S22 lineup, which had unofficially been dubbed as the Galaxy S22 Ultra, could in fact be called the Galaxy S22 Note.

The info comes from Tron who on Twitter stated that the S22 Ultra is now “dead” and that the next is actually the S22 Note. If true, it would be signalling a resurrection of sorts of the now-defunct Galaxy Note series.

To recall, the last Note model from Samsung was the Galaxy Note 20 series released back in August 2020, following which the lineup was binned in favor of foldable offerings. But many have argued that foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series are still in no way a true replacement for the Note series. The Galaxy Z Fold even comes with S Pen support but it was never really about that.

You see, the Galaxy Note phones had always been a beefed-up version of the S series. They were a great way to acquire the latest and greatest hardware the year had to offer, but also brought about a few small upgrades over the S series that would typically debut a few months earlier. The Note phones were also highly focused on productivity and even offered featured dedicated S Pen slots – something still missing on both the latest Galaxy S21 Ultra and Z Fold3.

Due to these reasons, they had amassed a die-hard fanbase over the years – something that Samsung now appears to be aiming to be capitalizing on once more. The original purpose of killing the Note lineup has been fulfilled after all, since the company’s foldable offerings are currently selling like hotcakes.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
Alleged photo of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (or Note)

But then again, Samsung does not want a Note phone eating into its foldables sales, which explains why the device is being sold as part of the S22 series and not as a standalone like it always was.

Regardless, it is important to stress here that the new Samsung Galaxy S22 Note naming scheming suggested by the tipster is still nothing but a rumor, so be sure to take it with a pinch of salt.

As for the specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra or the S22 Note, if that’s what you want to call it, the phone will be featuring a familiar boxy ‘Note’ design and even sport an S Pen slot. Its rear cameras will be in a quad 108MP + 10MP + 10MP + 12MP setup and the device is expected to be announced sometime in February.

What’s interesting about the live shot is that it will also come in a 1TB storage edition. This variant will include 12 GB of RAM. It appears that the flagship phone will arrive in multiple RAM and storage combinations. Since the handset is kept in a protective case, it does not showcase its entire front design. Our exclusive leak revealed that the GT 2 Pro may arrive in two variants, one featuring a punch-hole screen and the other with an under-display camera.

Recent reports have revealed that the Realme GT 2 Pro has a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel that produces QHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. For selfies, it may feature a 32-megapixel front camera. The rear-facing camera unit of the GT 2 Pro may include a 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 main camera with OIS support, a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a telephoto lens.

The GT 2 Pro’s battery capacity is not known yet. Probably, it will house a 5,000mAh battery like the Realme GT Neo2. It is likely to carry support for 65W fast charging.

Samsung Galaxy S22 series storage and color options leaked ahead of launch

Samsung is gearing up to launch its next-generation Galaxy S-series smartphones which are likely to happen in February next year, about a month after the company launches the much-delayed Galaxy S21 FE phone.

Almost everything about the upcoming smartphones has been leaked online ahead of them getting launched. Now, some more details have surfaced related to the storage options and color options of the Galaxy S22 lineup.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

New information coming from tipster Snoopy, the Samsung Galaxy S22 will top out at 512GB of internal storage. The standard model with 8GB LPDDR5X DRAM will come with either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.

Further, it is also being claimed that the smartphone will be made available in four color options — Pink Gold, Green, Black, and White. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus is tipped to offer the same storage configurations and color options.

On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is claimed to have two models — 12GB RAM with either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage, and a 16GB RAM model with 512GB of internal storage. It will come in Dark Red, Black, and White color option but some reports have also pointed to a new Green color option.

Samsung was rumored to have a 1TB storage model in the lineup as Apple has now launched the iPhone 13 series which packs up to 1TB storage. But it appears that is not the case. For those who are unaware, Samsung had offered 1TB storage with the Galaxy S10 series but after that, it is not offering such high internal storage.

All the models in the Galaxy S22 series will come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset or the unannounced Samsung Exynos 2200 SoC, depending on the region.

Coming to the pricing, rumors indicate that the upcoming Galaxy S-series flagship phones could cost the same as the Galaxy S21 lineup with the price starting at $799. To know for sure, we will have to wait a bit longer.

Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro series to reportedly launch in Q1 2022

Earlier this year, Samsung officially launched the Galaxy Book Pro and the Galaxy Book Pro 360 laptops globally. Now, the South Korean tech giant is gearing up to launch the successor of these two laptops next year.

As per the information coming from SamMobile, the company will be launching the Galaxy Book 2 Pro and the Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360 laptops in the first quarter of next year but the exact launch timeline isn’t known yet.

Samsung Galaxy Book Pro

It is also being reported that the devices will continue to feature OLED screens and are also likely to continue with the same design, offering a lightweight body and a decent set of specifications, running the Windows 11 operating system.

Currently, not much is known about these upcoming laptop models from Samsung but we expect the devices to come powered by Intel’s 12th generation Alder Lake processors or AMD’s 6000-series chips.

There’s a possibility that the company could push forward with the deeper integration of other Galaxy devices with these new laptops. As of now, it’s just speculation given that Samsung is yet to reveal anything related to the upcoming Galaxy Book products.

A couple of months back, Samsung had launched the Business Editions of the Galaxy Book and Galaxy Book 360, which are running the Pro version of the Windows operating system instead of the Home version. This adds better security and more management-related features to the devices.

Xiaomi 12 Standard Edition passes 3C certification; 67W fast charging confirmed

Motorola recently launched the Moto Edge X30 flagship smartphone powered by the newly announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. Xiaomi is also going to launch its new smartphones powered by the same chipset later this month.

Recently, a Pro variant of the Xiaomi 12 series smartphone passed through the 3C certification process. Now, the standard model of Xiaomi 12 with model number 2201123C has been spotted passing through the 3C certification process.

Xiaomi 12 Standard Edition 3C Certificate

The certification listing confirms that the Xiaomi 12 Standard Edition will come with support for 67W fast charging technology. This is lower than the 120W fast charging support recently confirmed for the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Pro smartphone.

This is in line with the earlier report from Digital Chat Station which had revealed that the Xiaomi 12 smartphone will pack a 4,500mAh battery and come with support for 67W fast charging as well as wireless charging.

It has also been leaked that the Xiaomi 12X, which is expected to come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset, will also have support for 67W fast charging.

As for the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro, both phones are expected to come with an OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The devices will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. They are expected to get launched by the end of this month, most probably on 28th December but the company is yet to reveal the launch date.

If the reports are to be believed, then because of the rising cost of materials, shortage of chips, and other supply chain issues, the pricing of the Xiaomi 12 series could start from 4,299 yuan, which roughly converts to $680.

Samsung smartwatch with a rollable display might be in the works, suggests patent

Last month, Samsung teased their rollable, foldable, & slideable OLED displays for phones, tablets, & even laptops. Well, it looks like the technology might even be coming to smartwatches, as new patents have surfaced of a Samsung smartwatch featuring a rollable display and a camera.

First spotted by LetsGoDigital, the 96-page patent document was filed with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) on June 2, 2021, and was released and published yesterday, on December 9.

First spotted by LetsGoDigital, the 96-page patent document was filed with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) on June 2, 2021, and was released and published yesterday on December 9.

The screen can be extended by pressing the crown of the watch or through touch-screen activation. When extended, the outer frame of the watch expands, allowing the additional screen real estate rolled up inside the body of the watch to unfold, expanding the screen by up to 40%. The technology even allows users to decide whether only one or two screen parts are rolled to roll out.

Coming back to the camera, the extension and retraction of the screen do not appear to hinder it, meaning it can make for an excellent selfie camera.

The technical specs of this Samsung rollable display smartwatch are unavailable right now, along with an expected timeline. But one thing can be said for certain that if Samsung is able to apply this technology, as illustrated in the patents, it will be the next step in the evolution of wearable gadgets.

Goodnight Alexa – Amazon pulls the plug on the popular web ranking service

Amazon’s Alexa Internet is a 25-year old service whose name has now been overshadowed by Amazon’s more illustrious digital assistant. Alexa came on board in 1996 but was bought by Amazon in 1999. It has provided web traffic analysis since then. Amazon has now indicated that the Alexa service will be retired by May 1, 2022.

The Alexa subscription service is very popular in some quarters with the Alexa Rank, which provide ranking metrics for the most popular websites. The Alexa team has now announced that it has stopped offering new subscriptions effective December 8, as it has activated its winding down processes. Being a subscription service, the Alexa.com team is providing the opportunity for paid users to export their data and thereafter delete their account. No solid reason was given by the team for the decision to retire Alexa.

Alexa had operated as a go-to resource for content research, competitive analysis, keyword research and several other web traffic metrics. It had helped many firms to convert find, reach and convert their digital audience consistently for the past 25 years. While the service was highly coveted in many quarters, it has also had its share of accusations that Alexa Rank could be gamed, thus calling its credibility to question. However, the brand had sustained its relevance these 25 years with a great performance and would be bowing out with a flourish.

ASUS Chromebook set for December 13 unveiling in India; features military-grade durability

PC maker ASUS has confirmed a December 13 date for the unveiling event of its latest device in the ASUS Chromebook series in India. The new ASUS Chromebook features military-grade durability, although the actual model number is still under wraps. This comes after the release in July 2021 by ASUS, of four Chromebook models in India, namely the C214, C223, C423, and C523. The new ASUS Chromebook will be available via Flipkart in India after the December 13 launch event.Asus Chromebook

The official teaser from ASUS indicated an image that highlights some of the features of the new ASUS Chromebook device. We expect the new ASUS Chromebook to be kitted with a higher processor than its predecessors in the Chromebook series, at least better than the N3350 deployed in the earlier models in the series. ASUS is promising a longer battery life for the new Chromebook to go with its versatility and flexible body. The minimum flexibility requirements are 180 degrees movement along with its hinges which should be super-durable. The image teaser indicates this possibility.

The new ASUS Chromebook comes with a full complement of ports, including USB-C, USB-A, among others.

Although it is unclear how the new Chromebook compares with the C214, we know that the C214 has a 360-degree convertible touchscreen display, military-grade durability, and an autofocus camera. While the C214 was priced at Rs. 24,990 ($330) at its unveiling in July, we would expect the new ASUS Chromebook to also fall within the Rs. 22,000 and Rs.26,000 range, which is between $300 and $350.

Redmi Note 11T vs Realme 8s 5G: Specs Comparison

We already compared the Redmi Note 11T to two other phones in the same price segment, but we think it is still not enough. We promise this is the last comparison, but we had to compare the Redmi Note 11T 5G with the best device from Realme sold with a similar price: the Realme 8s 5G. The differences between these two phones are just marginal, that is why a lot of people will be confused and unsure about which one to choose. This comparison between their specifications will hopefully shed some light on this and help you understand which phone offers the highest value for money.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 11T 5G vs Realme 8s 5G

Design

My favorite design of this comparison belongs to the Realme 8s 5G because its camera module has a more minimal look. The cameras are placed in a 2×2 matrix and the phone is slightly lighter than Redmi Note 11T 5G. It even offers a more compact size because its display is slightly smaller but still wide enough for everyone. But you should consider that the Redmi Note 11T 5G offers two important advantages in terms of build quality: the first is the IP53 certification (which makes it dust resistant and splash resistant) and the second is the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection for the front glass. Both the phones are made of polycarbonate just like most of the other budget phones.

The displays of Redmi Note 11T 5G and Realme 8s 5G can be considered at the same level. They are average IPS panels with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a 90 Hz refresh rate. As mentioned above, the Redmi Note 11T 5G adds the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, while the Realme 8s 5G has a smaller diagonal (6.5 inches vs 6.6 inches). Redmi Note 11T 5G has stereo speakers as well, while the Realme 8s 5G has a mono speaker: that is the reason why the former is a better phone for multimedia. Both come with a side-mounted fingerprint reader for authentication.

Hardware/Software

The hardware departments of the highest-end configurations of these phones are the same with the exception of the internal storage. The handsets are powered by a Mediatek Dimensity 810 chipset running at 2.4 GHz and built at 6 nm, paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of native storage. But the Redmi Note 11T 5G offers faster UFS 2.2 storage, while Realme 8s 5G comes with UFS 2.1. The performance level is very similar and the differences mostly depend on the software optimization. The phones run Android 11 out of the box and customized user interfaces: MIUI and Realme UI, respectively.

Camera

The Realme 8s 5G has a more interesting main camera: a 64 MP sensor that is able to capture a very high level of detail in good light conditions. On the other hand, the Redmi Note 11T 5G features an 8 MP ultrawide sensor (besides the 50 MP main camera) which is not present on the Realme 8s 5G. The Realme budget phone only offers two secondary sensors with 2 MP resolutions which are considered pretty useless. But the selfie camera of the Realme 8s 5G is actually more valid.

Battery

There are no differences in terms of battery capacity and fast charging: Redmi Note 11T 5G and Realme 8s 5G are both equipped with 5000 mAh batteries and they support 33W fast charging. The battery life provided by these devices is similar because they have similar components, so it is a draw from the battery point of view.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 11T 5G vs Realme 8s 5G: Price

In the Indian market, the Redmi Note 11T 5G carries a starting price of Rs. 17,999 (about $239), that is the same starting price you can find for the Realme 8s 5G. These devices have very similar specs sheets and it is very hard to pick a winner. While the Redmi has faster internal storage, the Realme 8s 5G seems to offer a slightly more interesting camera department (but not for everyone as it lacks an ultrawide sensor). Which one would you pick?

WhatsApp pilots cryptocurrency payments via its platform in the US

Social networking platform WhatsApp has launched a pilot program in the United States that allows a limited number of users to send and receive money using cryptocurrency. The pilot program will make it possible for the selected users in the US to pay or receive money via WhatsApp chat. WhatsApp is collaborating with Novi who has deployed the Meta digital wallet, earlier successfully piloted for Pax Dollars payment.WhatsApp

In a joint announcement by Novi and WhatsApp, the pilot payment solution was unveiled. Novi says sending a payment should be as simple as sending any other attachment via WhatsApp chat. The new feature on WhatsApp is accessed via the paper clip icon on Android or the + icon on an iOS device. The user will then select Payment from the menu that appears. According to additional details provided about the pilot program by Novi on their official website, there are no fees for sending or receiving money via this feature. In addition, there is no limit on the number of transactions and no fees to keep the balance in a user’s Novi account. Users can also freely withdraw the funds to their bank accounts instantly.Cyptocurrency

The pilot was originally meant for both the US and Guatemala, although it is understood that users can only make use of their standalone Novi app for processing crypto payments. Novi could see a spike in registrations if the pilot is successful in the US. The WhatsApp payment platform is covered by WhatsApp end-to-end encryption and is available in English and Spanish. It is unclear at this time how long the pilot will run in the US. Traditional payment via WhatsApp is already functional in some jurisdictions including Brazil and India.
