OPPO Watch Free to reportedly launch in India along with Reno7 series smartphones

OPPO, one of the world’s leading smartphone makers, is all set to launch its next-generation Reno7 series smartphones in its home market China today, i.e. 25th November. It is expected to have three devices — Reno7, Reno7 Pro, and Reno7 SE.

The next-generation OPPO Reno series smartphones are expected to get launched in the Indian market in January. Now, the latest report indicates that the company could also launch the OPPO Watch Free and new TWS earbuds along with the Reno7 series smartphones in India.

If the report is to be believed, then along with the OPPO Watch Free fitness tracker, which has already been spotted on the BIS portal, the company could launch the Enco Free 2i TWS earbuds which are expected to launch today in China. However, it has not yet been confirmed if it’s Enco Free 2i that will be launched in India early next year or some other TWS earphones from the company.

Coming to the OPPO Watch Free, the device features a 1.64-inch 2.5D AMOLED display with a 280 x 456 pixels screen resolution, DCI-P3 color gamut, and a 326 PPI pixel density. The rectangular display is housed in a frame made of polycarbonate and fiber while the underside is covered in a material made of nylon plastic (PA) and fiber.

The fitness tracker can track more than 100 sports modes including cricket, skipping, archery, skiing, volleyball, kayaking, and badminton but only four sports can be automatically tracked — running, walking, rowing (machine), and ellipticals. There is even a built-in trainer for running.

It connects via Bluetooth 5.0 and it is compatible with Android devices running Android 6.0 and later as well as devices running iOS 10.0 and later. The device is powered by a 230mAh battery that is claimed to provide up to 14 days of usage. It also supports fast charging as OPPO claims a quick 5-minute charge will provide enough charge to last a day.

As we mentioned the other day, the ColorOS 12 Open Beta program for the OPPO Reno6 5G is now finally live in India as scheduled. In order to participate, applicants should be on firmware version A.15 or A.17.

The registrations will remain open until December 1. The company is recruiting 5000 testers for the first batch.

Last week, OPPO kicked off the Android 12-based ColorOS 12 Open Beta program for the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G and OPPO Reno6 Pro+ 5G. Now, the same initiative is live for the OPPO Reno6 5G as well. However, it is currently limited to China.

According to an official announcement post on OPPO Community China, the brand has opened registrations for OPPO Reno6 5G ColorOS 12 Open Beta program in its home country. The registrations are live starting today (November 23) and will remain open until 3 PM (local time) on November 25.

In order to enroll, participants should be on firmware version A.17 or A.18. If they are, then they need to navigate to Settings > Software Update > Gear Icon > Apply for Beta Version > Update Beta Version and follow on-screen instructions. To increase their chance of selection, applicants can try participating in this questionnaire.

Applicants who get selected will receive the beta software build via OTA. Whereas, unselected participants can try reapplying during the next batch of recruitment.

As far as other regions are concerned, OPPO has confirmed to start the ColorOS 12 Open Beta program for the OPPO Reno6 5G in India on November 25. We will update this story once the initiative begins in the region.

Unfortunately, there’s no official information regarding the rollout of the stable update. It should be available once the teasers don’t find any major issue.

Redmi Note 11 4G launched with 90Hz display, Helio G88, 50MP triple cameras

In October, Redmi announced the Redmi Note 11 5G, Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G, and Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G. Now, it has silently added a new member named the Redmi Note 11 4G to the family. It is a tweaked version of the Redmi 10 (or Redmi 10 Prime) available in other markets.

Redmi Note 11 4G specifications and features

The Redmi Note 11 4G has a 6.5-inch FHD+ LCD display that delivers a 90Hz refresh rate, a 180Hz touch sampling rate, and a 1,500:1 aspect ratio. It has an 8-megapixel camera on the front for capturing selfies. Its rear shell has a triple camera unit with a 50-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens with a 120-degree FOV, and a 2-megapixel macro camera.

The Helio G88 powers the device with 4 GB / 6 GB of LPDDR4x RAM. It comes with 128 GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. For more storage, it features a dedicated microSD card slot. The device is backed by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging and 9W reverse charging. It ships with a 22.5W fast charger.

The device is loaded with MIUI 12.5 based Android 11. offers features such as dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, IR blaster, dual stereo speakers, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

As can be seen, the specs of the Redmi Note 11 4G is also identical to the Redmi 10 (global markets) / Redmi 10 Prime (India). The only major difference is that the Note 11 4G has one less camera on its back. Probably, this device could be heading some other markets as the Redmi 10 2022.

At a launch event earlier this year, in the month of April, Lenovo had announced several YOGA series products, including the Lenovo YOGA Duet 2021 which is a 2-in-1 notebook with changing form factor.

Now, months after announcing the product, Lenovo has now officially started taking pre-orders for the YOGA Duet 2021 and will be available for purchase from 30th November. The device is priced at 6,999 yuan which roughly converts to $1,095.

Being a 2-in-1 device, it supports form-factor switching, giving more convenient access to users and enabling multiple modes on a single device with the aim to meet almost all the requirements from users.

It can be used as a tablet for media consumption when the keyboard is removed and when the keyboard is attached to the device, it transforms into a laptop, handling all the work-related tasks. The device can also be used with a 4096-level pressure-sensitive stylus to convert it to a studio mode.

Coming to the specifications, the Lenovo YOGA Duet 2021 features a 13-inch IPS touchscreen display that offers a 2160 x 1350 pixels screen resolution, and a 16:10 aspect ratio with 450nits brightness, 100% sRGB high color gamut, low blue light Rhine certification, DC Dimming, and more.

Under the hood, the device comes powered by the 11th generation Intel Core i5-113567 processor, coupled with 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD storage. There are three USB-C ports, one of which acts as a Thunderbolt port. It also features a microSD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Design

There are no differences between the design of the Vivo V23e 4G and the one of its 5G sibling. These phones are built with polycarbonate and they sport a rectangular camera module, as well as a display with a waterdrop notch and a screen to body ratio close to 84 percent. The volume keys and the power key are both placed on the right side of the phone. These devices do not come with premium materials, but they are very thin and lightweight: they weigh just 172 grams and are 7.4 mm thick, which are great values for a midrange phone.

Display

Even the displays of the Vivo V23e 4G and the Vivo V23e 5G are the same. We are talking about an AMOLED panel with a diagonal of 6.44 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, an in-display fingerprint reader for the authentication, and, as already said above, a waterdrop notch. The display shows vivid colors and deep blacks, but it remains a midrange AMOLED display and it is far from the panels found on flagship phones. But at least it is superior to the usual IPS panels you can find on a lot of midrange phones in the current market. Unfortunately, it does not have a high refresh rate, but you won’t mind so much if you do not come from a device with a high refresh rate and if you are not a gamer.

Hardware/Software

The chipset is definitely one of the most important differences between the Vivo V23e 4G and the Vivo V23e 5G. The former is equipped with a MediaTek Helio G96 mobile platform built at 12 nm and running at a max frequency of 2.05 GHz. Unfortunately, this processor lacks the 5G connectivity and, despite that, its efficiency is not so great. The chip is paired with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of native storage which you can furtherly expand with a micro SD slot. The Vivo V23e 5G is fueled by the new Mediatek Dimensity 810 5G chipset built at 6 nm which provides a lower energy consumption and 5G connectivity. The chip runs at a max frequency of 2.4 GHz and it even guarantees better CPU and GPU performance if compared to the Helio G96. The software of these phones is the same with Android 11 and Funtouch OS 12 on top.

Camera

Alongside the processor and the connectivity, the only other difference between Vivo V23e 4G and the 5G variant is the camera department. The V23e 4G should be the inferior one, but it is superior if we talk about the cameras. It has a better 64 MP main camera on the rear side against the 50 MP sensor of the 5G variant, as well as a better front camera with a 50 MP resolution, autofocus, HDR, and 4K video recording. It is worth mentioning that these are among the best selfie phones in the midrange segment. The Vivo V23e 5G is less impressive in terms of cameras, but it still comes with a great 44 MP front camera supporting autofocus, HDR, and 4K video recording.

Battery

The batteries of the Vivo V23e 4G and 5G have a capacity of 4050 mAh: they are not so big, but the battery life is more than sufficient for the average user. Further, these batteries charge very quickly thanks to 44W fast charging.

The starting price of the Vivo V23e 4G is €330/$370, while the 5G variant starts from €350/$392. Which one should you buy? Go for the 5G version if you care about having 5G and a better processor, while if you prefer better cameras and you still do not need 5G, choose the 4G version.

Indian tech lifestyle brand boAt has in the past few months launched several neckband headsets under the Rockerz series. There is the Rockerz 255 Pro+ wireless earbud launched in January this year with up to 40-hour battery life. There is also the Rockerz 333 neckband wireless headset launched in July this year with a braided cable styling.

The company isn’t relenting as it has launched a new Rockerz wireless earbud in India. The new audio product is dubbed boAt Rockerz 205 Pro. The wireless earbuds keep up with the neckband design of other Rockerz series earbuds. It features several modest audio features including 10mm drivers designed to deliver an immersive audio experience.

The earbuds also come with ENx technology which activates the environmental noise cancellation feature. As such, voice calls can be received without ambient noise disturbance. There is also a 65ms low latency beast mode for gaming. It features support for Bluetooth 5.2 and the user can pair two devices at the same time without any interference in the connection.

Furthermore, the Rockerz 205 Pro features magnetic earbuds that clasp together to avoid dangling as the user walks. It also comes with volume and tracks change controls as well as Single Press Voice Assistant.

The neckband earbud supports IPX5 water-resistant rating meaning water splash and sweat won’t cause any damage to the device. It packs a 200mAh battery that is said to deliver up to 30 hours of playback. It also has a decent fast charging feature that’ll allow the earphones to get juice enough to last for up to 12 hours with just 10 minutes of charging. It takes just 50 minutes to fully charge the earbuds.

The 1 million customers milestone was announced via a tweet from the official DIZO India handle and the brand is calling for some response from those who had been part of the 1 million customers. The DIZO lineup in India is a fast-expanding portfolio of products. Apart from smartwatches, DIZO in India also has wireless earphones, feature phones, hairdryers, and beard trimmers. The breakdown of the numbers and the specific products driving the DIZO sales were not highlighted, although the company says the earphones, the DIZO Watch 2, and feature phones flew out of the shelves.

Earlier today (25th November 2021), a vulnerability was spotted in the AI and audio processing components in recently launched MediaTek chipsets. This vulnerability would’ve allowed apps to eavesdrop on users.

According to an AndroidPolice report, Check Point Research had discovered the vulnerability, which allows “local privilege escalation attack” from a third party application. To put things simply, an app loaded with the right code could possibly have gained access to AI and audio related information that it otherwise wouldn’t have had access to. Fortunately, the Taiwanese chipmaker fixed the issue before it was exploited. The company has even fixed every related vulnerabilities as of October 2021.

While the process to exploit this vulnerability was quite complicated, the issue would’ve given any apps to pass specific commands to the audio interface. This would’ve been a major issue considering MediaTek had a notable 43 percent market share in the smartphone process market as of the second quarter of this year. In other words, the company was the number one brand for smartphone chips in terms of shipments. So, the vulnerability could’ve been disastrous for the company. Although, the issue has reportedly been fixed back in October, so it is recommended that MediaTek users update their devices to the latest patches just to be on the safer side.

OPPO Enco Free2i TWS earbuds official teasers emerge ahead of tomorrow’s launch

BBK subsidiary OPPO announced the Enco Free2 Truly Wireless earbuds in May this year. The company recently hinted that the earbuds will get a successor soon. The Enco Free 2i is expected to be announced on November 25. Ahead of the launch, the Chinese company has relesed several teasers showing the design and features of the upcoming wearable product.

The OPPO Enco Free2 adopted a 599 yuan (~$94) price tag with a noise reduction depth of up to 42dB. This is reputed to be the highest level among true wireless noise reduction headphones. The Enco Free 2i is also teased toc ome with 42dB active noise cancellation level.

Judging from the official teaser posters, the OPPO Enco Free2i will adopt the same design style as its predecessor. However, the earplugs and earphone compartment are designed in blue. In terms of the features, the upcoming wireless earbuds will come with support for “device dual connection”, that is, the headset can be connected to two devices at the same time, and it is convenient to switch between the two devices.

As such, the device can be connected to a mobile phone to listen to music and if you want to watch a movie on the computer, you only need to pause the music playback on the mobile phone and click the play button on the computer video website. The headset then automatically switches to the computer’s audio output.

In another scenario, if a user connects the headset to a PC and is perhaps watching a movie and then a call is received on a connected smartphone, the ringtone will automatically preempt the headset and pause the computer’s video playback. The user simply needs to double-click the headset to easily answer the call.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 scores over a million points on AnTuTu

Qualcomm has confirmed that its next-gen flagship mobile SoC will be called Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The American chipmaker has even revealed that this silicon will be officially announced on November 30. Ahead of that, the chipset gets benchmarked on AnTuTu with over a million points.

The upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has become the first Qualcomm mobile SoC to cross 1 million points (10,35,020 points) on AnTuTu Benchmark. This information comes from a screenshot shared by a Weibo profile called 科技晚8点. Unfortunately, the picture does not show the breakdown of the score in different categories.

It is worth noting that even the newly unveiled MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC scores over a million points (10,07,396 points) on AnTuTu Benchmark. However, it’s not as high as that of the yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon silicon. For comparison, last-gen Qualcomm and MediaTek chipsets can score around 850K (Snapdragon 888) and 690K (Dimensity 1200) respectively.

Though there’s still a performance difference between the two, they are better than their predecessors in terms of scores. Anyway, at the end of the day, benchmarks only tell half the story. The real-world performance depends on the smartphone’s hardware and software optimizations.

Xiaomi 11T, 11T Pro, and Redmi 10 (2022) to launch soon in India

Xiaomi was speculated to bring the Xiaomi 11T smartphone into the Indian market. Ahead of any official release date, the tipster Ishan Agarwal via 91Mobiles revealed that not just Mi 11T series, in fact, more phones and gadgets would launch soon in the region.

According to the tipster, Xiaomi will launch the Xiaomi 11T, 11T Pro, and Redmi 10 (2022) in India. The Chinese brand is also touted to launch Redmi Smart Band Pro, Redmi Watch 2, Watch 2 Lite, and Watch S1 Active in the country. However, the exact launch date is unknown. That said, we have to wait for the company to announce it. We expect the phones to launch along with the other devices in the next few weeks.

Moreover, the Xiaomi 11T is said to launch in 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage configurations. On the other hand, the Xiaomi 11T Pro will arrive in three configurations, the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage, 8GB RAM + 128GB storage, and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variants. The 11T Pro will launch in White, Blue, and Grey color options.

The Redmi 10 (2022) will also launch in three options. A 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, 4GB RAM + 128GB storage, and lastly a 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. Just like the 11T Pro, the Redmi 10 will also come in White, Blue, and Grey color options.

There is a TikTok video making the rounds about a Boston-based woman who recounted her experience with Apple’s AirPods. The woman with username @iamcarliiib reportedly swallowed one of her AirPods accidentally in place of her drug.

The woman said she had wanted to take the painkiller Ibruprofen, which was on her hand while the left of her AirPods was on the other hand. Obviously, in the throes of pain, she inexplicably switched the drug with the AirPod and realized the mistake immediately she had swallowed the device. The woman said she made several efforts to bring force it out but that did not happen until she eventually excreted the device. An X-ray confirmed that the device was no longer lodged inside her stomach.

The woman also noted that the AirPod was able to record sound from her stomach, as it was still connected to her iPhone before it was ingested. This was indicated in a voice note that she sent to a friend that included gurgling sounds recorded in her stomach. It is unclear whether there were any side effects from the woman accidentally ingesting the AirPod. It would be interesting to get the perspective of Apple on this incident.

Motorola unveiled the Moto G31 alongside four other smartphones last week. We have been hearing about the handset’s launch in India since the very next day from its announcement. Now, the company has officially confirmed to debut the phone in a few days from now.

According to Motorola India’s official Twitter account, the Moto G31 will launch in the country on November 29. Since the handset is already official, we know everything about it.

In fact, the device’s price in the region also leaked yesterday. The phone is expected to retail at ₹14,999 for the 4GB + 64GB storage configuration in the country.

As far as features are concerned, the Moto G31 is unlike its predecessor Moto G30. It has an impressive set of specifications.

The smartphone sports a 6.4-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate. It is powered by a MediaTek Helio G85 SoC paired with 4GB RAM and up to 128GB storage.

It houses a triple camera setup on the rear consisting of a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide unit, and a 2MP macro snapper. A 13MP front-facing camera sits inside the centered punch-hole.

Two impressive ‘Made in India’ smartwatches have been launched by audio and smartwatch manufacturer, PLAY. They are the PLAYFIT SLIM and PLAYFIT STRENGTH and both feature a 1.28-inch, 240×240 pixels IPS LCD screen and other impressive features such as IP67-rated water, and dust protection, heart-rate monitor, fitness tracker, as well as blood oxygen monitoring (SpO2).

The two Indian-focused smartwatches also have multiple sports modes, sleep monitoring functionality, Bluetooth notification, and between 5 and 15 days battery life. The PLAYFIT SLIM is priced at Rs. 3,999 (~$54), while the PLAYFIT STRENGTH costs Rs. 4,999 (~$67) and will be available for purchase in the subcontinent from November 30.

Blackview is soon debuting in the high-end tablet market with the launch of Tab 11. As revealed a few weeks ago, the company is set to launch the premium Tab 11 along with the Blackview 6 and 6 Kids. However, the Blackview Tab 11 has surfaced on AliExpress with all specification details. As per the listing, the new tablet features a 10.36-inch display, an octa-core processor, 8GB RAM, 128GB internal storage, and offers 4G LTE connectivity.

There’s also a 6580 mAh battery, an 8MP front, and a 13MP rear camera for decent photographs.
