Samsung unveils the Bespoke Grande AI Dryer with a large 20kg capacity

Samsung Electronics is extending its tradition of releasing custom-made products to its home market with the unveiling of its latest 20kg dryer. The Bespoke Grande Dryer AI has been certified by the Korean regulator as the product with the largest drying capacity in the country presently.Samsung Bespoke Grand AI dryer

Samsung has maintained a focus on the production of high-capacity dryers domestically since the beginning of 2021. In a press statement to herald the release of the Bespoke Grande Dryer AI in Korea, the company said that up to 60% of its dryer sales have come from products with 17kg capacity or higher this year. The Bespoke Grande AI 20kg dryer is an improvement of the 19kg model from Samsung. It has a bigger drying capacity largely due to Samsung increasing the heat transfer area of the condenser unit of the heat exchanger by about 18%. The design efficiency was also ramped up to provide substantial gains in drying capacity.Samsung Bespoke Grand AI dryer

Due to its unchanged size, the new Grande Dryer AI will attract the attention of individuals and corporates needing to optimize their drying operations. The new product seems to have inherited the features and advantages of the existing Bespoke Grande Dryer AI, with an expanded drying capacity. The custom product deployed several of Samsung’s proprietary technologies in the heating and drying components to give an overall great dryer. There are substantial improvements in the time to dry clothing using the new Bespoke Dryer AI 20kg dryer.Samsung Bespoke Grand AI dryer

As quality support for the product, Samsung is offering a lifetime warranty service for repairs and free replacements of the digital inverter motors and digital inverter compressors that may break down while using the product. The Bespoke Grande Dryer AI 20kg retails in Korea from 1,749,000 won ($1,492).

Google Pixel 3 series has officially hit the end of the road with regards to software updates

Google is known to provide the highest number of Android version upgrades for its Pixel phones along with offering the most extended security update support. But all good things come to an end and the Google Pixel 3 series is no exception. The lineup is now officially considered end-of-life and will not be receiving any Android or security updates.

As such, last month’s October security patch was its very last. The Pixel 3XL and Pixel 3 currently run Android 12 – also the final major update. The series was not included in this month’s security bulletin either.

Android 12

The Google Pixel 3 series made its debut back in October 2018 and booted into Android 9.0 Pie for the first time. It has now lived through 4 Android versions, having bagged 3 Android upgrades.

The EOL could spark concern in users waiting on a definitive fix for the EDL mode issue. For the uninitiated, it is a problem that many have become all too familiar with and has caused multiple Pixel 3 units to suddenly stop working and become completely unresponsive, irreversibly. Affected phones stop booting into Android and instead display Qualcomm’s “Emergency Download (EDL) mode.”

Hopefully, the EOL will not also mean the end of support with issues like these.

Google Pixel 3 series featured

Google had recently announced five entire years of timely monthly security patches for its freshly-launched Pixel 6 series. Some had hoped that the Pixel 3 series would get similar extended support but that sadly hasn’t been the case.

The Google Pixel 3 comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p P-OLED HDR display and is powered by the Snapdragon 845 processor. It sports a single 12.2MP rear camera and two 8MP shooters upfront. The XL model comes with the same camera setup but featured a larger 6.3-inch notched display with a denser 1440p resolution. Both devices hold up fairly well even today, although the notch and bezels and may be considered a deal-breaker by many.

ZTE AX5400 Pro router released with self-developed 12-core main chip and 6 antennas

ZTE yesterday released the AX5400 Pro router, equipped with a self-developed 12-core main chip. The router adopts an all-black appearance with a spaceship design and all 6 independent antennas can be folded 180°.

The ZTE AX5400 Pro product page shows that the 8-core NPU (Independent Network Acceleration Engine) of this router can increase the fast-forwarding performance of data packets by 1400%. This is combined with a 120% performance boost of the 4-core 1.1GHz CPU. Both CPU and NPU work together to achieve two-way data. The max data transfer speeds reach 20Gbps.

The ZTE AX5400 Pro is equipped with a 2500M custom network port, which can support 2500M broadband. The router also supports the WiFi6 160MHz bandwidth.

Another highlight of the router is its antennas. There are 6 of them and each is independent. Together, they’re capable of enhancing the signal by 6dB.

In terms of heat dissipation, AX5400 Pro uses aluminum-silicon and aluminum-magnesium alloy double-layer full-covering heat sink. This is paired with a high-efficiency graphene heat dissipation coating.

The router is gaming-focused, just as its design conveys, and thus has exclusive NetEase UU and Tencent game accelerators to reduce latency as much as possible during online gaming.

The ZTE AX5400 Pro router is currently only available in China for 549 Yuan, which is around $85. There hasn’t been any announcement of a global release as of yet, but one could follow soon if ZTE indeed intends to make it available for the global market.

Chromebooks and tablets no longer selling as well as they did in the early pandemic days

The pandemic saw unprecedented growth in Chromebook and tablet sales thanks to the boost in remote work and learning. But of course, such artificial growth wasn’t to last forever and the boost is now starting to wear off. Chromebooks and tablets recorded their first decline since the onset of the pandemic in 2020.

Lenovo Chromebook 300E
Lenovo Chromebook 300E

Chromebook shipments declined 29.8% YoY (year on year) in Q3 2021 with volumes dropping to 6.5 million units while tablet shipments recorded a 9.4% YoY drop to 42.3 million units, according to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker.

Restrictions and lockdowns have been eased of late across the globe which has led to increased spending in other categories, in turn weakening Chromebook and tablet demand. The lifting of restrictions also means that people are resuming work in offices and students are going back to school, further cutting tablet and Chromebook demand due to decreased dependence on them.

Anuroopa Nataraj, senior research analyst with IDC’s Mobility and Consumer Device Trackers says, “Chromebooks continue to increase their footprint in emerging markets such as Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan and China), Latin America, and the Middle East & Africa, but sales in these regions account for less than 13% of the overall Chromebook volume and hence are far from moving the global market.”

HP has taken the greatest hit when it comes to YoY growth, recording a decline of 66.1% in Q3 2021 when compared to the same period last year. The least affected seems to be Samsung with an actual 0.2% growth, while all of the other top 5 Chromebook sellers have seen declines. However, Samsung is the last of the top 5, with Lenovo leading with 1.5 million Chromebook shipments. Lenovo is followed by Acer, Dell, HP, and finally Samsung.

The scene in the tablet market is different with Apple not only maintaining the lead in terms of 3Q21 shipments but also recording the highest growth of 4.6%. Also recording growth is Lenovo with a figure of 2.1%. The remaining 3 brands have all seen a decline, contributing to an overall 53.1% drop in growth in 3Q21 when compared to 3Q20.

“Though reduced demand is largely to blame to for the declines in these categories, limited supply has also been a factor,” said Jitesh Ubrani, research manager for IDC’s Mobility and Consumer Device Trackers. “The combination of these two factors is likely to create opportunity for PC makers as shared components, production capacity, and freight availability could be shifted to other categories such as Windows notebooks or perhaps gaming PCs, which continue to see higher demand and greater profitability.”

Realme to expand in the premium segment with flagship phones costing around 5,000 Yuan

Realme is apparently planning on expanding its presence in the premium segments of the smartphone market. The company’s President shared this news, stating that new flagship models will arrive that cost around the 5,000 Yuan mark (roughly 780 US Dollars).

Realme

Xu Qi, the President of the Chinese smartphone maker stated that these upcoming devices will be aimed at the upper premium segments of the market in China and will arrive with top notch specs and feature (Via ITHome). While the executive did not reveal any finer details at the moment, he did state that we can expect these high end premium smartphones to launch sometime in early 2022.

Notably, Realme will be joining the likes of Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo who are also expanding in the ultra premium segment market in China. So, we can expect a number of new handsets from the various brands competing against each other next year. For those unaware, ultra premium segment smartphones have usually been dominated by Apple and Samsung in the global market with their flagship models costing around or over the 5,000 Yuan price point.

Realme GT 5G rear-

While Chinese brands are known for offering great value for money devices in the entry level to even the budget flagship levels, these brands are now seeking to expand their presence in the top segment as well. Unfortunately, it is unknown which series Realme will be launching the new flagship devices in, but it might just be a new annual flagship lineup like the Galaxy S series. Although, this is just speculation so take it with a pinch of salt for now.

Apple slashes iPad production to improve chip supply to iPhone 13 series

Apple has been lowering the production of its iPads to improve its chip supply for its iPhone 13 series. The company had to shift chip supply to the latest iPhone, which has led to shorter delivery times.

Apple

According to a Nikkei Asia report, sources close to the matter have revealed that production of iPad has been lowered by a significant 50 percent than its original plans for the past two months. The lowered production of iPads allowed the Cupertino based giant to allocate more chips and other components to the iPhone 13 series that has seen robust demand all across the globe. This also showcases that the company’s new iPads and iPhones have a number of parts that are common across both platforms.

In other words, the brand has coped better amid the global semiconductor shortage as it can shift production from two different products. The reason the company is shifting is shifting production to the iPhones is likely due to its stronger than expected demand. Although, the demand for iPads has also been quite strong as well. Meanwhile, separate reports have also pointed at delivery times of iPhone 13 series becoming shorter, which also hints at its supply chain improving.

Apple iPhone 13 All Colors Featured

As of right now, the average lead times across the world for the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 has settled around 12 and 13 days respectively. Similarly, lead times for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max also stabilized around 32 days, which is down from 37 days. However, the lead times are still quite a bit longer than the last generation’s iPhone 12 series.

Redmi K50 series will reportedly go back to under-display fingerprint sensors

The Redmi K50 series will reportedly be a comeback for under-display fingerprint sensor technology that was last seen on the Redmi K20 series. Redmi’s K series had done away with under-display fingerprint scanners in favor of side-mounted fingerprint tech despite being ‘flagship killer’ devices.

Although under-display fingerprint tech is still a little off from perfection and tends to be less accurate than rear or side-mounted fingerprint scanners, it’s a fan-favorite because it’s undeniably cooler. It may also be more convenient. The tech is more expensive though, which is probably why Redmi chose to do away with it in order to shave some of the cost of the K series.

Redmi K50 concept renders
Redmi K50 concept renders (HoiINDI)

But the K series has always been Redmi’s top-of-the-line offering and keeping it barred from the tech would have been unreasonable. Redmi will thus be shipping the K50 series with under-display fingerprints next year (via My Drivers).

This will not change the K50 series objective of being purely performance-oriented devices in any way though. Qualcomm’s upcoming 4nm Snapdragon 898 flagship processor will thus be featured on it, or at least on the Pro model. For comparison, the Redmi K40 series (Poco F3/Mi 11X) is comprised of the Redmi K40 with the Snapdragon 870 and the Redmi K40 Pro/Pro+ with the Snapdragon 888.

In addition to the above, the Redmi K50 series will be equipped with 100W+ fast charging for the first time. This may be limited to the Pro/Pro+ variants though. The series will also come with 120Hz AMOLED displays, with the Pro version having a 108MP camera.

We expect Xiaomi to announce the new Redmi phones in December or early January 2022.

New HONOR Browser is nothing but renamed HUAWEI Browser

Huawei sold its Honor brand to Zhixin New Information Technology Co. Ltd in mid-November 2020. Almost a year later, the products from the two companies are still identical to each other. The new HONOR-branded smartphones share almost everything with HUAWEI handsets. The same goes for software. A few days back, Honor released its self-branded browser application for its Android devices called HONOR Browser. Unsurprisingly, it is nothing but renamed HUAWEI Browser.

On October 31, a Huawei-focussed Weibo account (菊厂影业Fans) shared a few screenshots of the new HONOR Browser, which is currently in beta testing. The images show that the browser not only has the same logo as HUAWEI Browser but also shortcuts, however, renamed to ‘HONOR Shortcuts’.

With outrage from the public, Honor quietly changed the logo today with the latest beta version 5.0.0.303. The new version of the app also brings ‘HONOR Vision’, which is yet again a renamed visual search function found in HUAWEI Petal search.

The fresh beta release also comes with ‘HONOR Smart Recommendation’ feature, which is similar to Huawei’s implementation in its browser.

In a nutshell, HONOR Browser is a rebranded HUAWEI Browser in its current form. Hopefully, Honor tweaks this application to make its own with a unique look and set of features in the near future. Until then, Honor users are stuck with a HUAWEI Browser in disguise.

Apple iPhones could soon feature a crash detection feature: Report

Apple might be planning on bringing a new feature to its iPhones and its Watches. A new report has suggested that its smartphone and smartwatch could soon have a car crash detection feature that would notify authorities like the police or possibly even an ambulance.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the Cupertino based giant is working on a feature that automatically calls 911 when it detects a car crash. The Google Personal Safety app on Pixel devices is a similar feature, while modern cars also offer a connected car services as well. This includes GM’s OnStar, Subaru’s Starlink, and Fiat Chrysler’s Uconnect. In other words, while certain modern vehicles does offer such a feature, iPhones getting car crash detection would allow more drivers to get help immediately.

Apple

Notably, CarPlay is already a in vehicle system from the brand that can be found in a number of new cars, especially in the US. So Apple could very well be building this new feature that will work with its car system and the iPhones to detect car crashes. Keep in mind that this is still an unconfirmed report so take it with a pinch of salt for now. Although, considering how the company has had years to collect data and analytics from its iOS and watchOS users, its crash detection feature might be quite accurate and save a lot of lives.

OnePlus, OPPO, vivo apply for trademark for autonomous vehicles, electric scooters in India

OnePlus had teased a OnePlus Warp Car back in 2019 as part of an April Fools joke. The car had promised stuff like a trip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas on just a single 20-minute charge. It was a creative little prank back then, but a recent trademark application by the company indicates that it could soon turn into reality.

oneplus warp car featured
OnePlus Warp Car

The Chinese company has applied for a Trademark Class 12 for the words “oneplus life”. A Trademark Class 12 pertains to vehicles, and the images shared by notable tipster Debayan Roy show that the application by OnePlus is for driverless cars, self-balancing electric scooters, remote control vehicles, civilian drones, and even boats.

The trademark application is dated 30th March 2021 but seems to have only been spotted now. It is joined by similar applications from OPPO and vivo, indicating that BBK Electronics and all of its subsidiaries are looking to make their entry into the EV space. The trademarks seem to have been rejected at the moment but the companies will likely be trying again.

realme had actually applied for the same more recently and managed to successfully grab a trademark for “realme TechLife and TL Device.”

The newfound interest of Chinese tech giants in electric vehicles doesn’t come as a surprise though. China has seen exponential growth in the EV space within the past couple of years and everyone wants a piece of the profit. Various brands from different fields have either invested in the market or brought forward products of their own. Xiaomi had officially registered an electric vehicle business recently and seems to be leading the race among smartphone companies.

India might not have seen growth figures akin to China yet but its potential is just as large. Companies are obviously aware of this, hence the trademark applications.

While the likes of a OnePlus Warp Car are still a distant dream, we might soon at least see e-bikes from BBK subsidiaries OnePlus, OPPO, and vivo. Xiaomi has already launched models of its own and its competitors were bound to follow.

Xiaomi 2201123C, 2112123AC bags CMIIT certification

New Xiaomi phones with 2201123C and 2112123AC have received certification from the CMIIT authority of China. Reliable tipster Digital Chat Station has called these devices as L3 and L3A. It can be said based on recent reports that these devices may belong to the upcoming Xiaomi 12 series.

The CMIIT certifications have not revealed any information on the specs of the 2201123C (L3) and 2112123AC (L3A) Xiaomi phones. One of the past tweets from Xiaomiui, a Twitter handle that is known for revealing details of the upcoming Xiaomi phones, had revealed the key specs of the L3A phone. While its final moniker is not known, it is speculated that it could be a variant of the Xiaomi 12 codenamed Psyche.

The handset is rumored to feature a Full HD+ resolution display that offers a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen could be integrated with a fingerprint scanner. It is likely to be powered by a Snapdragon 8-series chipset. For photography, it may feature a triple camera unit, which may comprise of a 200-megapixel main camera, an ultrawide lens, and a micro camera. It is expected to come with other features like OIS and an in-display fingerprint scanner. The other details of the phone are under wraps.

The L3 could be a variant of the L3A. At present, there is no information available on the specs of the L3. Hopefully, the rumor mill is expected to spill more information on these devices in the future.

In related news, Xiaomi is said to be working on the launch of the Xiaomi 12 series and Redmi K50 lineup. While the latter is expected to launch around February, the former may go official in December in China.

Fortnite is officially shutting down in China on November 15

The developers of Fortnite, Epic Games, have officially announced that it will be shutting down its popular battle royale title in China. The publisher revealed this news on its official website in China and stated that it is ending the “test” version of the game in the region this month.

Realme 3 Pro Fortnite

According to the official post, no new user will be able to sign up or download the massively popular battle royale game as of 1st of November 2021. Furthermore, Epic Games will be completely shutting down its servers in the region on November 15. In this post, the studio also thanked its players for “boarding the bus” and participating in the game. Unfortunately, Epic Games did not offer any specific reason as to why it has decided to pull out the mobile port of one of the most popular multiplayer game currently in the market.

Although, it might have to do with the various restrictions it had faced in China. For those unaware, China had recently introduced a new regulation that restricted gaming hours for children below the age of 18 that are now only allowed to play video games three hours per week. Notably, the games that have launched in China have to undergo several changes to comply with local standards.

Fortnite

This holds especially true for battle royale entries that have to remove any form of blood while also ensuring that the BR game is portrayed as a military training simulator rather than a last man standing game. Despite being a major franchise, Fortnite was never really that popular in China to begin with. While the PC version had dominated PUBG PC, PUBG Mobile has been more successful in the handheld gaming segments. Till date, the game in China was missing many features and updates, including in app purchases and certain DLC contents as well.

The current-gen Galaxy A32 and Galaxy A32 5G already come in the first three colors. Hence, ‘Orange’ will be the new option for their successor. For those unaware, the last orange-colored handset from Samsung was Galaxy A50 (Coral).

Unfortunately, not much is known about the Galaxy A33 right now. As per GalaxyClub, the device will most likely come with 5G as standard. Hence, there might not be a 4G variant.

On the other hand, the Galaxy M33 could come in both 4G and 5G variants as the Galaxy M series is prominently sold in countries like India where there’s still no sign of 5G networks. However, so far, only the 5G model has been spotted.

That said, we expect to learn more about these smartphones in the coming days.
