Samsung Galaxy S22 design details leaked by a former Samsung employee

The loss of important trade secrets and unauthorized release of such to the public is something that seems to have come to stay. Some of the major tech companies like Samsung and Apple have not been spared of this issue, even with an array of security measures and deterrents in place. The latest news is that a former Samsung employee has released the design of the unreleased Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus smartphones. This comes in the wake of the earlier leak of the more expensive Galaxy S22 Ultra.Samsung Galaxy S22

In a report by a former Samsung employee with the moniker Super Roader, the S22 and S22 Plus have some key design differences from the Galaxy S22 Ultra. As per the leak, and further renders from digital artist Snoreyn, the S22 and S22 Plus will have a different camera design from the S22 Ultra, which had a drop-like design. There are also indications that the screens of the new models will be slightly shorter but wider than their predecessors, the Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus, respectively. Both the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus will maintain a full HD display and 120Hz refresh rate.

If the leaks are fully countenanced, then the S22 and S22 Plus will sport a flatter display from previous models, while the slight curve at the edges is maintained. The displays will also be brighter than previous models. These details add more fuel to the expectations and projections for the official release of the products sometime in early 2022. So, let us keep our fingers crossed to await the big news from Samsung in connection with the Galaxy S22 lineup.

Xiaomi sells over ¥10 million (~$1.56m) worth of Redmi Watch 2 in just 2 hours

During the Redmi Note 11 series launch on October 28, Xiaomi went official with two other products, the Redmi Watch 2 and Redmi Buds 3 Lite. The Redmi Watch 2 is the second-generation model of the Redmi Watch which was launched last year. The new smartwatch went on its first sale Monday and the sales result are pretty impressive.redmi watch 2

According to the tech giant, the Redmi Watch 2 turned out to be highly sought after as the brand sold over 28,000 units of the watch valued at over RMB 10 million (around USD$1.56 million). What’s even more surprising is that this massive sale was concluded in just 2 hours.

To recall, the Redmi Watch 2 carries a retail price of 399 yuan($62) but is presently discounted to 349 yuan ($55). The decently priced smartwatch packs a 1.6-inch AMOLED with a resolution of 320 x 360 pixels. This is a far better upgrade over the 1.4-inch LCD screen on the previous model. The device equally features a display area increase of nearly 25% while the screen ratio jumps to 63.7%. The watch also has a better aesthetic appeal and also features up to 100 trendy watch dials.

The watch also features support for blood oxygen saturation measurement, 24-hour heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, sedentary reminder, stress monitoring, breathing exercise, menstrual cycle tracking, Xiao AI device controls, and more.

Xiaomi is yet to disclose when the Redmi Watch 2 will be up for grabs outside China but we expect an official launch in no distant time. Meanwhile, you can buy the smartwatch from Gizmochina’s online store Giztop without having to wait till the global launch.

Xiaomi releases Android 11 kernel source code for the Redmi Note 11 Pro

Just days after the release of the Redmi Note 11 series in China, Xiaomi has now released the Android 11 based kernel sources for the Redmi Note 11 Pro. Codenamed Pissarro, the source codes can be viewed from GitHub. They may be of little importance to the bulk of ordinary users, but will surely be helpful to developers and sufficiently skilled tinkerers who may want to push their devices to the limits of their capabilities. The kernel source codes are important details that help developers build custom kernels and ROMS for the device.Redmi Note 11 kernel source code

The Redmi Note 11 series has three models on its lineup, namely Redmi Note 11, Redmi Note 11 Pro, and Redmi Note 11 Pro+. With the launch of the products in China, other markets including India, are primed for the release of the products obviously with some variation and possibly additional accessories. It is also speculated that the Redmi Note 11 and the Redmi Note 11 Pro could be called the Xiaomi 11i and Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge respectively in India.

While the Redmi Note 11 sports a MediaTek Dimensity 810 chipset, the two other models are powered by the more powerful MediaTek Dimensity 920 chip. The kernel source codes could indeed help developers explore how much performance improvement could be gotten from the MediaTek Dimensity chipset through custom ROM. It is speculated that Snapdragon-powered smartphones enjoy better development support than those powered by MediaTek SoCs.

Pricing and global availability details for the new lineup of the Xiaomi Note 11 series are awaited with much expectation. The coming days will give greater illumination to these details.

Vivo V23e (V2116) hits GeekBench packing an Helio A22 SoC, 8GB RAM

Vivo‘s upcoming smartphone under the V-series has been in the news quite often lately. The model known as Vivo V23e has now appeared on the database of benchmark app GeekBench.Vivo V23eThe Vivo bears the model number V2116 which has a history dating back to July when it first appeared on the IMEI database listed as Vivo V23e. The V2116 also appeared at Bluetooth SIG in September. That isn’t all, just a few days back, a hands-on video of the model appeared online giving us our first look at the device.

Coming to the GeekBench listing, the device is listed with a MediaTek Helio A22 chipset paired with a staggering 8GB RAM. It will run on the Android 11 operating system which will likely have a touch of Funtouch OS 12.  The device polled a total score of 473 points on the single-core test and 1,668 points on the multi-core test. The GeekBench listing, as usual, isn’t generous with details of the model. Also, the specs and Geekbench scores don’t match up so we’ll take this with some doubt.Vivo V23e front

The earlier leaked video shows the device will pack a triple 64MP camera setup at the rear while the selfie aspect will be piloted by a 50MP front camera. The device will also be powered by a 4,030 mAh battery with 44W charging.

Redmi Note 11 to launch in India as Redmi Note 11T 5G

A few days back, we learned that the Redmi Note 11 Pro models will come to India under Xiaomi branding. Today, the same source reveals that the vanilla Redmi Note 11 will retain the Redmi branding for Xiaomi’s largest market outside its home country.

Redmi Note 11 All Colors Featured A
Redmi Note 11

According to reliable MIUI tipster Kacper Skrzypek (@kacskrz), Xiaomi might launch the Chinese Redmi Note 11 in India as Redmi Note 11T 5G. Since this piece of information comes from MIUI code, it will be most likely true.

The strings shared by the leaker reveal that the Redmi Note 11 is codenamed evergo, while the yet-to-release POCO M4 Pro 5G bears codename evergreen. We learned about these devices back in August. On the other hand, the Redmi Note 10T 5G, which is expected to debut in India is codenamed evergoin.

As mentioned in the beginning, the Redmi Note 10 Pro and the Redmi Note 10 Pro+ are also anticipated to go official in India. These phones will be called Xiaomi 11i and Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge in the country.

This suggests that India may get different Redmi Note 11 Pro handsets. Unfortunately, no information is available regarding these devices. But we expect to learn about them in the coming days.

At present, it’s not known when the three Redmi Note 11 smartphones from China will make their way to India.

Geely’s EV brand ‘Geometry’ reportedly planning to integrate HarmonyOS on its cars

Huawei‘s HarmonyOS is about finding a new home if the latest report from China is anything to go by. Sources familiar with the matter have revealed that carmaker Geely’s Geometry is planning to utilize the HarmonyOS for the next five years.Geely GEometry HarmonyOS

Geometry is Geely’s independent pure electric sub-brand focused on the manufacture of sedans, SUVs, and others. The plan will see the cars get powered with HarmonyOS just like the Arcfox Alpha S co-developed by BAIC and Huawei. The HarmonyOS-powered electric car is expected to start shipping in Q4 2021.

There is no official word from both Huawei and Geely regarding this rumor but it won’t be surprising if it ends up happening. Apart from the partnership with BAIC, Huawei is developing the HarmonyOS as a cross-platform operating system that will integrate seamlessly across different platforms. Since the US ban which crippled its smartphone business, the Chinese tech giant has been looking at various ways of expanding its business. One of such is an increased focus on the automobile industry.

The company earlier this year, announced a partnership with BYD to integrate the BYD Han with the Huawei Mobile Service for cars. The HMS for cars is also installed on the 2021 Mercedes Benz S-Class in the Chinese market.

ITHome reports several Huawei insiders to have hinted that they have not heard of such plans. The Chinese blog also disclosed that Huawei officials did not respond to requests for comments about the rumor.

Redmi Note 11 Pro+ Hands-on: Brings 120W Charging and a Better Display

One of the biggest launches last month was the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ in China. The Redmi Note series has always been extremely popular among the young generation, and the latest lineup continues to bring forth impressive upgrades without a significant increase in the overall pricing. A highlight upgrade in the top-end model in the series, the Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus, turned out to be a flagship exclusive feature until now — 120W HyperCharge support. But there are a lot of other features to be excited about the new Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus.

Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus review:

Let’s take a quick look at the phone in our Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus hands-on.

Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus review featured 4

The Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus comes with a familiar design, especially when you look at its camera module. However, on closer inspection, you would realize that it’s not exactly the same design as the previous generation model. The camera module gets larger sensors and their numbers have increased too. But overall, you get the same Redmi Note series vibe as its predecessors.

Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus review back design camera

The new Redmi model is flatter at the back much like the iPhone models but of course, it doesn’t feel as premium. The back is made out of AG frosted glass and has a better hands-on feel than the Redmi Note 10 Pro.

The Note 11 Pro Plus has also been upgraded in terms of functionality. It is not only equipped with NFC, IR blaster, and stereo dual speakers but also features an X-axis linear motor and a 3.5mm headphone jack. And the SIM tray also supports MicroSD card. In terms of design and functionality, the Note 11 Pro Plus is indeed an upgrade compared to the 10 Pro.

Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus review featured 2

The Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus gets a new Samsung AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate, one of the best in its price range. We tried playing an HDR video and the overall experience is an upgrade to its predecessor with excellent contrasts. However, instead of the latest generation of Corning Gorilla Victus Glass found on the 10 Pro, you now get a Corning Gorilla Glass. At first glance, we wouldn’t say this display is perfect, but it’s a really good screen for a phone that’s affordable.

Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus review unboxing 2

The JBL stereo speakers also sound good for a phone in this price range. And of course, 120W charging will ensure juicing up your phone will never be an issue. It takes just 10 minutes to charge to 76%, which practically should give you a day’s worth of usage.

We’ll take a closer look into the phone’s performance, battery, and of course the cameras in our in-depth review soon. But for now, enjoy the hands-on images of the Redmi Note 11 Pro down below.

If you have any specific questions or features that you would like us to test out, feel free to share them in the comments.

By the way, in case you missed it, we are giving away one Redmi Note 11 Pro phone to a lucky Gizmochina reader. You can participate from the widget down below.

DJI’s new Action 2 camera overheats & there’s no fix yet in Europe & the UK

Last week, renowned Chinese drone maker DJI launched a portable action camera dubbed DJI Action 2 camera. The camera was a successor of the Osmo Action camera and is positioned to take on the GoPro Hero 10 Black.DJI Action 2 camera

The DJI Action 2 adopts a portable modular design. The camera itself measures just 39mm square and 22mm deep. The compact design meant the internal components are crammed into a smallish form factor. That itself may have created an issue that users may face unless a software update is pushed soon.

YouTuber Geeksvana has shared a video where he reviewed the Action 2 camera. The YouTuber revealed that the camera’s capabilities are somewhat limited in Europe and the UK. This is due to some inherent regulatory bottlenecks in these regions. As a result, the camera can become extremely hot when it is used for video recording at high frame rates and resolutions. The review shows the camera started overheating after 3 minutes when it is used at 4K/120 FPS while at 4K/30 FPS, it became hot in less than 6 minutes.

Ordinarily, the DJI Action 2 features a ‘High-Temperature Mode’ which effectively deals with this issue but due to regulatory restrictions, DJI is unable to activate this mode on the models shipping to the EU and UK. The regulations are enacted to protect the consumers, though.

We have no idea how DJI will resolve this issue for the affected region. You would want to have this at the back of your mind when shopping for the Action 2 camera if you are in the UK or EU.

To recall, the DJI Action 2 features a 12MP lens with a 155-degree FOV. The camera is capable of recording 4K videos. It equally sports a 1.76-inch OLED touchscreen protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. The modular design makes it possible to mount a second screen as well as add the DJI mic or other third-party products to the device.

The Action 2 carries an entry price tag of $399. You wouldn’t want to shell out this amount for a camera that can record for up to 30 minutes without heating up.

Xiaomi 12 Ultra tipped to feature larger zoom camera and ultrasonic fingerprint sensor

We have been hearing more about the Xiaomi 12 series lately. Recently, a leaker revealed the rear camera setup of the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. A few days later, yet another tipster now discloses a bit more information about one of these cameras. At the same time. He also spills the beans on the type of fingerprint sensor that will be used in this phone.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra

According to a leakster who goes by the name of 熊猫很禿然 (Panda is Bald) on Weibo, the upcoming Xiaomi 12 Ultra will feature a larger zoom camera. He says that the handset will come equipped with a 1/1.5” periscope camera with 5x optical zoom. For comparison, the Mi 11 Ultra’s 48MP 5x periscope measures 1/2.0” in size.

Previously, Digital Chat Station revealed that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will not come with a 200MP camera as earlier reports suggested. Instead, the phone will arrive with three 50MP sensors. Panda is Bald also corroborates the same.

As one of these 50MP sensors is now said to sport a 5x periscope lens, the other two must be paired with wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lenses respectively.

Additionally, the tipster also says that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will house an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor underneath its display. If this is true, then it will be the first Xiaomi smartphone with such an implementation.

That’s because, so far, Xiaomi has only used optical in-screen fingerprint sensors for its handsets. However, it is worth noting that the Mi 5s from 2016 had an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor but on the chin instead of underneath the display.

That said, we expect to learn more about the Xiaomi 12 Ultra in the coming days ahead of its official launch.

Poco executive discusses the future of the company: Poco smartwatches and earbuds upcoming?

Poco is easily one of the fastest-growing smartphone ‘sub brands’ around and has seen huge success since its very first device itself that launched back in 2018 – the Poco F1. Fast forward to three years later and the brand has gone independent from Xiaomi and is seeking to expand into other products, starting with ecosystem products.

Poco ecosystem products

In an interview with Android Authority, Poco revealed that it’s expanding into ecosystem products in 2022. This doesn’t come as a surprise though considering almost every smartphone brand now has its own ecosystem of sorts. It, after all, allows for a more seamless experience while also building brand loyalty.

“We always think smartphone plus IoT is a key strategy for us,” Poco Global head Kevin Qiu said.

Poco’s head of product marketing, Angus Ng added saying that while “nothing is actually off-limits,” it’s starting small at first. “Coming out with ecosystem products, I think we still need to stay close to our brand philosophy and product philosophy. So we need to somehow play it more on the safer end, to begin with (sic).”

This suggests that audio products, followed by wearables and power banks could be the first products towards building a Poco ecosystem.

An ecosystem typically includes tablets as well. This market is something that Poco isn’t planning on entering anytime soon though considering high competition:

“On the tablet side, yeah tablets have been huge in the industry in the last year and a half because of the pandemic. But it’s because it’s been huge and kinda crowded, (that) it’s even harder for us to enter from that perspective.”

Poco software

Moving on to what Poco does best – smartphones – the company’s next offering will likely be the Poco M4 Pro. The device has been touted as being a rebranded Redmi Note 11 by many. Poco is known for simply slapping their own logo atop devices that were originally Xiaomi and reselling them, but that is said to change now.

The company is looking to further differentiate itself from Xiaomi and Redmi in terms of software. Sure, you do get a Poco launcher, but that has mostly been it. Qiu now says that further customizations and aesthetics for the software to bring it more in line with Poco’s hardware designs are being considered.

And as for the dilemma of software updates, Qiu had the following to say:

“As of right now we’re actually still discussing and talking to the MIUI team about being a part of that plan. As of right now, I can’t confirm anything about three plus four [three years of OS updates and 4 years of security patches – ed], we’re still staying with two plus three right now for all of our devices.”

Poco Snapdragon 888 phones

Last but not least was the question of why Poco chose to stick to Snapdragon 870 and has not released any device with the latest Snapdragon 888 chip:

“After internal testing with a lot of our R&D and product managers, we found out that (the Snapdragon) 865 from last year was an amazing chipset. In terms of performance, stability, and cooling in general. And 870 was able to keep all of those great attributes and become even better. When some of the first flagship Android devices pushed out 888, the major concern was overheating and power consumption.”

Here’s the leaked images of the upcoming Intel ARC Alchemist GPUs

The images of the upcoming Intel graphics card from its ARC Alcehmist series have just been leaked. This offers us a look at the design of both the new high end and entry level graphics card.

Intel

The images were shared by Moore’s Law is Dead who has also shared other key details about the upcoming Team Blue GPUs in the past. In the YouTube video, we can see what appears to be the live images of the new ARC Alchemist series of GPUs (high end model in particular). Notably, Moore’s Law is Dead had previously also shared the renders of the graphics card back in October. And now, the live images reveal that the GPU’s design is in line with the renders we had reported on.

Reportedly, these images showcase the finalized design for the high end ARC Alchemist GPU’s shroud design. Furthermore, MLID added that the GPU could feature up to 32 Xe Cores while also sharing renders of the upcoming entry level Alchemist GPU with 8 Xe Cores. Looking at the high end variant first, we can see that the GPU features a dual fan design that is similar to the renders we had previously covered. The shroud features a silver color scheme and have two 9 blade fans that also have the Intel branding. The power connectors is now housed on the side of the card and is the 8+6 pin configuration that has a maximum power draw rating of 300W.

Intel

On the other hand, the entry level GPU from Intel will feature a single fan but with a shroud that has a similar silver color scheme as well. It sports a compact design with a dual slot form factor and would likely arrive with a single 6 pin connector. This card will be placed in the entry level and would compete with Nvidia‘s lower priced GTX 16 series. However, due to supply constraints and scalping, the prices of these lower end cards have also sky rocketed. So, the chipmaker has a great opportunity within the current market. Although, we will have to wait for an official launch to know for sure.

ASUS working on a Surface Pro-like laptop that docks with an eGPU for gaming: Leak

ASUS is apparently planning on launching a new notebook that will be the successor to the ROG Flow X13. A recent leak revealed the design of this upcoming notebook, which bears resemblance to the Surface Pro laptops from Microsoft.

The leak was shared by known tipster Evan Blass (@evleaks), with the images showcasing a thin and light laptop that appears to be similar to the new Surface Pro 8 in terms of design. This laptop in question will reportedly be called the ROG Flow Z13. For those unaware, the ROG Flow X13 was a convertible laptop that could be connected to an external eGPU (external GPU) from the Taiwanese PC maker.

This external GPU is called the XG Mobile that could boost the gaming performance of the thin and light convertible notebook. Apart from just gaming, the eGPU also acted as a USB dock that offered a number of port. In other words, the ultrabook could technically be turned into a full fledged gaming rig with the right peripherals. So, it won’t be far fetched to assume that the upcoming ROG Flow Z13 could also support the same.

At the moment, finer details regarding this laptop is still unknown. We only have a leaked image to go on for now, so take this report with a pinch of salt. But with CES 2022 being an upcoming major event, we could expect this device to be showcased in the conference, which is set to be held in January 2022.

Meizu mblu’s first smartphone in 3+ years may launch soon

Back in September, Meizu brought back its ‘mblu’ (Blue Charm) brand from the dead. Soon after its revival, Mblu announced its own sub-brand called ‘lifeme’ for lifestyle products. A few days later, mblu Blus TWS earphones made their debut. Now, more than a month later, Mblu’s first smartphone in three years called mblu 10 makes its appearance on the web.

According to a report by ITHome, an upcoming Mblu-branded smartphone called mblu 10 briefly emerged on the eCommerce platform Suning. The device’s promotional banner was spotted by netizens on Suning’s Meizu store.

The image shows a phone with a Meizu 18-like rear design but with a dewdrop notch on the front. From the low-quality picture, we can see that the handset will arrive in at least three colors, namely black, white, and green.

Unfortunately, we cannot tell for sure whether the device will have a triple or a dual-camera setup from the pixelated image. Though it appears to have three cameras, we cannot rule out the possibility of the middle one being a random AI branding or something else.

That’s because the recently launched Redmi Note 11 also looks like it has quad-cameras from the distance. However, in reality, it only has a dual-camera system.

As of now, we know nothing about the Meizu mblu 10. But we expect to learn more about this phone before its official launch in the coming days.

The Meizu mblu 10 will succeed the Meizu mblu 6T (aka Meizu M6T) from 2018.
