Vivo Y71T (V2102A) bags 3C certification in China

In September, a Vivo phone model number V2102A was spotted at the Geekbench benchmarking site. Last week, it received approval from China’s MIIT authority. Now, it has been certified by the 3C regulatory body of China.

As can be seen in the screenshot shared by Digital Chat Station, the V2102A is a 5G-ready device, and it may ship with a 44W charger. According to the tipster, this device will be released in the Chinese market with the Vivo Y71T moniker.

Vivo V2102A 3C

The V2102A’s Geekbench listing had revealed that it could be Vivo’s first smartphone powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 898 (part number sm8450). It can be said based on tipster’s Weibo post that Vivo had conducted a reliability test on the sm8450 chip and it replaced the model number of the actual device with V2102A.

Hence, it appears that the V2102A is not a flagship phone. It is now expected to arrive as a Y-series phone with the Y71T moniker. Now that it has been approved by the 3C authority, it is likely to appear with some of its key specs at the TENAA certification site.

In related news, a few other Vivo phones with model numbers V2009A, V2115A, and V2156A were recently certified by the TENAA authority of China. The V2156A is expected to arrive as a rebranded version of the upcoming iQOO Z5x. The specifications of the V2009A were found to be similar to the V2156A. The V2115’s specifications suggested that it could be a rebadged version of the iQOO Z5.

Apple AirPods 3 expected to launch next week along with M1X MacBook Pro

Apple has confirmed its new “Unleashed” event for 18th October and it appears that the technology giant is set to launch its new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro devices powered by the unannounced M1X chipset.

Now, a new report coming from @PandaIsBald on Weibo claims that the Cupertino-based company will also be launching its third-generation Apple AirPods at the same event. The true wireless earbuds were previously reported to get launched along with the iPhone 13 series and Apple Watch Series 7 but that didn’t happen.

Apple AirPods 3 Render
Apple AirPods 3 Render

Last month, we reported that the Apple AirPods 3 have already entered production and the suppliers have also started shipping the product to Apple. However, the initial shipments were low which is likely the reason for not releasing them last month.

We expect the second-generation of AirPods Pro to also get launched along with the third-generation of AirPods. But so far, there has been no confirmation regarding this.

An image of the upcoming AirPods 3 has already leaked online, which reveals the earphones’ design which seems to be inspired by the Pro variant. The earbuds will come with a short stem and a sensor, as well as a microphone on the front.

Internally, it is also expected to come powered by a new chipset and is said to support Apple Music Lossless Audio. Additionally, the earbuds are expected to come with improved battery life performance compared to the AirPods 2.

There’s also a possibility that the next-generation AirPods may come with support for Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). In that case, Apple needs to have something major to offer with the next-generation AirPods Pro to justify the “Pro” tag and higher pricing.

Google Pixel 6 series to reportedly offer four years of OS updates and five years of security patches

Google had unveiled the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones a couple of months back and the technology giant is now all set to officially launch both devices next week, at a launch event on 19th October.

Ahead of the official announcement, almost everything related to the upcoming phones has leaked online. Now, a new report reveals one of the major features for the upcoming Pixel 6 series flagship smartphones.

Google Pixel 6 Series Featured Image

A tipster going by the name Snoopy (@_snoopytech_) on Twitter has revealed that the upcoming premium smartphones from Google will offer four years of operating system upgrades and five years of security patches.

This means that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which will come pre-installed with the Android 12 operating system, will also be getting the upcoming Android 13, 14, 15, and 16 versions, with security patches guaranteed till 2026.

If it turns out to be true, then it is a major advantage for the users of the Pixel 6 series given that most smartphone manufacturers only promise up to two major OS version updates, which basically means two years of support.

It appears that this is becoming possible for the company as it will be using its own Tensor chipset for smartphones. Prior to this, Google smartphones were powered by Qualcomm’s processor, which may have created an issue for the search engine giant to guarantee a smooth transition to newer OS versions.

The commitment of Google to offer updates for more years could also force other Android smartphone manufacturers to expand the software support duration. Although it is still not up to Apple’s standard, it’s good to see companies making an effort in this direction.

Realme Pad vs Nokia T20: Specs Comparison

Realme recently launched its first tablet: the Realme Pad. A few weeks after, even Nokia came up with its first tablet: the Nokia T20. Both the manufacturers decided to start with an affordable tablet instead of a flagship, in order to provide a device that can be suitable for everyone. While we are waiting for higher-end tablets from these two brands, it is time to compare their specifications in order to understand which one is the best affordable tablet you can buy at the moment. If you are looking for a great Android tablet with a minimum expense, go ahead with this comparison and find out the differences between these two devices.

Realme Pad vs Nokia T20

ADDITIONAL FEATURES Optional LTE Optional LTE, splash resistant

Design

The Realme Pad is the tablet providing the best design. It is thinner and even lighter, with narrow bezels around the display and a single camera on the back. It has an aluminum frame and aluminum back guaranteeing a solid build quality. Despite it has the same display diagonal, the Realme Pad is slightly more compact than the Nokia T20 because it has a higher screen to body ratio. The main reason making the Realme Pad a better tablet in terms of design are its dimension, thickness, and weight, but for the rest, these devices do not differ too much. The Nokia T20 has a high screen to body ratio and an aluminum body as well. Further, it is splash resistant, unlike the Realme tablet.

Display

The displays of the Realme Pad and the Nokia T20 are very similar. They both feature a diagonal of 10.4 inches and the same IPS LCD technology, as well as the same Full HD+ resolution with 1200 x 2000 pixels. So you get the same level of detail and a similar (average) image quality. It looks like the Nokia T20 has higher brightness, but if we exclude that, the display experience should be the same. Both the tablets come with stereo speakers and a 3.5 mm audio jack to connect headphones. Unfortunately, there is no fingerprint reader on any of these tablets. There is also no keyboard support and no stylus support.

Specs & Software

The Realme Pad wins the hardware comparison thanks to a more powerful chipset. We are talking about the octa-core MediaTek Helio G80 built at 12 nm. Just like the Unisoc T610 found on the Nokia T20, the Helio G80 is composed of 2 Cortex A75 CPUs and six Cortex A55 CPUs, but the Cortex A75 is clocked at 2 GHz instead of 1.8 GHz on the Helio G80. The memory configurations are the same: either 3 or 4 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of internal storage. The tablets run Android 11, but the Nokia T20 has a stock version of the operating system, while the Realme Pad is customized. Note that both the tablets come in an LTE variant supporting 4G connectivity and a SIM slot.

Camera

The rear cameras of the Realme Pad and the Nokia T20 are exactly the same: an 8 MP sensor which can not provide a great photo quality, it is just an entry-level camera and even on low-end phones you can actually find better sensors. The Realme Pad provides a better front camera with a resolution of 8 MP, which is an important detail if you want to use your new tablets for video calls and conferences. The Nokia T20 has an inferior 5 MP front snapper.

Battery

The battery of the Nokia T20 is bigger with a capacity of 8200 mAh, which is the reason why its battery life is superior to the Realme Pad. On the other hand, the Realme tablet provides the support of reverse charging which allows using it as a power bank to charge other devices through a USB cable.

Price

The Realme Pad launched in Asia with a starting price tag of €150/$174, while the Nokia T20 starts from about €200/$232 in the base variant with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of native storage. If we exclude the battery life, the Realme Pad is a superior tablet: it has a better chipset, a superior front camera, and reverse charging. But if you need the longest battery life, then Nokia T20 might be a better choice for you because the rest of the specifications are still at a similar level: the SoC is weaker, but the difference is marginal; further, the Nokia T20 offers a splash resistant body and a scratch resistant front glass which you do not get with the Realme Pad.

Fujifilm launches the Instax Link Wide Smartphone Printer priced at $149.95

Fujifilm has launched a new mobile printer, the Instax Link Wide Smartphone Printer, which uses a larger Instax wide-format film. The Instax Link Wide Smartphone Printer is similar to the currently available Instax Mini Link. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth and uses an application to edit and print Polaroid-style snapshots in your camera roll.fujifilm Instax Link Wide smartphone printer

Instax Wide film is much larger than Instax Mini, about the size of two credit cards side by side. This means that the photos printed by your Link Wide may not be as easy to put in your wallet as Instax Mini photos, but they should be more visible and can be used for other purposes.

Instax Wide printers are also compatible with Fujifilm’s X-S10 mirrorless camera launched last year, allowing you to print directly without using a mobile phone. Of course, you can also print photos taken with other cameras, just upload them to your phone and then upload them to the Instax Link app.

Fujifilm says that the Link Wide printer should be able to print about 100 Instax photos when the battery is charged. There are two printing modes, Rich (Rich) and Natural (Natural), allowing you to choose between “bright and immersive or saturated and classic” color output, as well as editing the image by cropping or adding text in the application ability.Fujifilm Instax Link Wide Smartphone Printer

Fujifilm will release the Instax Link Wide Smartphone Printer at the end of this month, priced at $149.95. The company will also launch a new black-framed Instax Wide film, a pack of 10 sheets, priced at $21.99.

No, the realme 4K Smart Google TV Stick isn’t better than the Chromecast with Google TV

Among the new products announced at the Realme event in India today is the Realme 4K Smart Googe TV Stick. It is the first streaming stick from a third-party manufacturer to launch with Google TV. Those who live in India will be particularly considering the Chromecast with Google TV isn’t sold in the country.

realme 4K Smart TV Stick featured

Prior to its launch, a leak revealed the specifications of the realme 4K Smart Google TV Stick and among the provided details was the storage capacity which was stated to be 16GB. That was pleasant news as the Chromecast with Google TV’s measly 8GB of storage wasn’t sufficient and that resulted in user complaints. In my excitement, I even penned down an article about how it was better than Google’s own streaming dongle. Turns out the information was incorrect and the Realme TV Stick doesn’t have 16GB storage but 8GB!

It is disappointing to see manufacturers making the same mistake as competitors. With 8GB of storage, of which less than that is available out of the box, users will soon run into storage issues within a short period.

The spec sheet on the product page states the Realme 4K Smart TV Stick has 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. It also has a processor with four Arm Cortex-A35 cores for its CPU and a dual-core GPU. It has HDR10+ support and can stream in 4K at 60fps. The product page also mentions Bluetooth 5.0 and HDMI 2.1.

Realme 4K Smart TV Stick

The Realme 4K Smart TV Stick doesn’t have a stylish Bluetooth remote like the Chromecast with Google TV but it isn’t bad. Its buttons include a circular directional pad with a yellow ring inside it, a mute button, a power button, a settings button, volume control buttons, a Google Assistant button, and shortcut buttons for Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, and YouTube Music.

Realme has put a ₹3,999 (~$53) price tag on the streaming stick which is a few bucks higher than the $49 price tag of the Chromecast with Google TV. The manufacturer is yet to reveal when it will be available for purchase.

In a press release, Withings stated that the ScanWatch is the first smart wearable to record both ECG and SpO2 measurements, and will help to detect significant departure from the normal readings to trigger further health intervention. Future AirPods could monitor body temperature and function as a hearing aid – Report

The trajectory of the development of audio accessories like earbuds is taking a more powerful function. A report monitored on the Wall Street Journal indicates that Apple may be developing AirPods that could sync with the Apple Watch to take temperature measurements, evaluate body posture, and even function as a hearing aid for those that have a hearing impairment.Apple Airpods 2019

As per the report from WSJ, the prototype of the new AirPods indicate that it will measure the body’s core temperature from inside the user’s ear. Furthermore, the in-ear temperature sensors are expected to synchronize with the temperature sensor in the Apple Watch Series 8. The new feature of the device operating as a hearing aid could also have far-reaching implications for those with some hearing difficulties. The Conversation Boost feature is a new function in the AirPods Pro that enables the user to have enhanced volume and voice clarity from persons directly in front of the user. The basic AirPods design consists of microphones, amplifiers, and the necessary processor for enhanced voice clarity and volume.

It is however unclear whether the new designs will approach sound amplification through another route or it will just be an enhancement of the current Conversation Boost feature. The full design of the prototype will have to be seen to ascertain whether it could serve as a hearing aid. Importantly, the battery life of the model has to be improved upon tremendously for all-day use as a hearing aid. The report noted that it is possible that battery expansion considerations could be made by the FDA for such a new class of multi-functional hearing aids.

There is no indication when this rumored AirPods will become a commercial product if indeed it makes its way to the market. No confirmation has been gotten from Apple yet on the matter.

Anker’s Soundcore Frames are glasses with built-in speakers and changeable frames

Smart glasses seem to be the new rave these days. This year, we have seen new players enter into this budding market category and the number is expected to keep growing. Anker is the newest player in this space and its first product is the Soundcore Frames.

Anker Soundcore Frames

The Soundcore Frames is similar to the Razer Anzu smart glasses that launched in March in that both have built-in speakers. However, Anker takes the design further by offering up to 10 different designs, unlike the Razer Anzu which is available in only two designs.

Anker has put a price tag of $199.99 on the Soundcore Frames while additional frames some of which have polarized lenses for blocking UV rays or blue-light filters will sell for $49.99. There is also support for prescription lenses. Users will be able to remove the temples which house all of the components and swap them to another frame they own. To know if a frame fits you before purchasing it, there is a virtual try-on page on the website and on the Soundcore app for Android and iOS that allows you to try on different frames.

The manufacturer says the glasses have four speakers for an OpenSurround experience. There are two microphones that work together with a noise reduction algorithm to block out ambient noise when making calls. The Soundcore Frames also has its own local assistant for music control and calls. It has a battery life of 5.5 hours and is rated IPX4 water-resistant.

Soundcore Frames promo

If you plan to get the Soundcore Frames, you can get an extra frame for just $1 if you pledge before October 31st. A code will be sent to those who do so and they are required to complete their order for the glasses from November 1st through 10th on the official Soundcore website or on Amazon. The code sent to them earlier can be used to get a free frame.
