HMD Global, the licensee for Nokia Mobile, announced last week that it has an event scheduled for October 6. The tweet didn’t reveal what the product will be but many have guessed that it is a tablet. Today, it has shared a new teaser that confirms it will indeed launch a tablet on that day.
The launch of the tablet was confirmed by the Nokia Mobile Twitter account with a caption that reads “Everything you’d expect from a Nokia phone in a tablet. Coming 6.10.21”. Based on the caption, we can expect the tablet will run a stock version of Android out of the box. It should also receive software support for a duration similar to Nokia’s Android phones, probably two years of OS upgrades and three years of security updates.
Attached to the tweet is an image of the Nokia 3310 (2017) and the upcoming tablet. The photo doesn’t reveal much about the device save for a glimpse at the design. We can see the frame is flat and has rounded corners and the tablet has a dark gray/black finish. It’s also pretty slim.
The tablet is expected to launch as the Nokia T20 and will have a display that measures 10.36 inches, a Unisoc processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and support for 10W charging.
In addition to the sleek Xiaomi CIVI and MIJIA Treadmill, Xiaomi has also unveiled the MIJIA Washing Machine Mini. This is the smallest washing machine in the brand’s catalogue and it offers several decent features. It is targeted at young users whose clothings are usually not so big.
The main feature is the high-temperature boil-washing function designed for washing personal clothes, capable of deep sterilization and removing mites. The Mijia Washing Machine Mini can be used as a special washing machine for personal clothes or baby clothes to avoid the trouble caused by washing clothes with hands.
It has four levels of temperature adjustable, 90°C high temperature steaming, 60°C mite removal and sterilization, 40°C efficient stain removal, and room temperature pure cotton color protection. The machine also comes with 16 exclusive washing procedures, 10 special stain washing, making it easy to deal with different kinds of stubborn stains.
The machine has a 1kg capacity and is designed to sit on top of a desk which doesn’t take up too much space. The firmware also features support for OTA upgrade and smart home device interconnection.
According to professional inspections, the MIJIA Washing Machine Mini can effectively remove the three major molds hidden in the underwear at a water temperature of 60°C. The Mijia Washing Machine Mini can also deeply kill the mites hidden in clothes and remove pollen allergens through high-powered water flow and high-temperature heating at 60°C. According to professional testing, the Washing Machine Mini has a mite removal rate of 99.9% and a pollen allergen removal rate of 99.8% at 60°C water temperature and baby wash mode, effectively reducing allergies caused by unwashed clothes.
At the same time, the MIJIA Washing Machine Mini has as many as 16 built-in washing and care programs, including underwear washing, baby washing, pasteurizing washing, towel washing, silk washing, and other modes. Among them, the Quick washing can wash the clothes in 24 minutes. It also features 10 kinds of special stains washing such as for baby food, soil stains, chocolate stains, collars, cooking stains, etc..
The product will be available at Xiaomi Mall, Xiaomi Youpin, JD.com, Tmall, etc. at 10 am on October 1st. It carries a price tag of ¥1,099 (~$170).
There are indications that chipmakers AMD and MediaTek are negotiating on a joint venture arrangement that could see AMD producing chips with MediaTek IP integrated into them. A report by DigiTimes says that the collaboration will be focused mainly on chip-level data transmission technologies including Wi-Fi, 5G, and wired data transmission. As per the DigiTimes report, the focus product offering will center on mobility hardware solutions, laptops inclusive.
The joint venture arrangement, if talks proceed smoothly, could see the first chips with the AMD-MediaTek mix being released by 2024. If the talks come to fruition, this would not be the first time such collaborations between AMD and MediaTek will be happening. The AMD RZ608 SoC has MediaTek’s Wi-Fi 6 technology integrated into its design. The RZ608 is the chipset used in AYANEO’s handheld games console.
The collaboration could have a significant impact on AMD’s notebook solutions by making them more attractive with the extensive array of wireless solutions brought to the table by MediaTek. The Taiwanese company MediaTek has evolved to become one of the leading mobile SoC developers with a rich vein of highly successful 5G-enabled solutions. These are seen as solid alternatives to most of the Intel-developed solutions. The choice of MediaTek could be seen as a strategic move by AMD, as it pursues some degree of parity or better all-round performance over Intel.
MediaTek surpassed Qualcomm in mobile chips shipments in 2020 and the company is well primed to continue to deliver some of the leading designs in the mobile SoC market, with a sufficient mix of innovation and versatility. A successful collaboration between AMD and MediaTek will enable AMD to transit to MediaTek-made data communications solutions, while also shoring up the output for MediaTek in the notebook segment of the market.
There has been no official confirmation of the negotiations by either of the companies at this time.
Flipkart has scheduled its 2021 Big Billion Days sale on October 3 in India and just like every year, Apple iPhones are one of the most anticipated phones to be on sale. Every year, Apple iPhones, especially the starter flagship in the series gets a massive discount in the sale. Similarly, today, Flipkart revealed the sale price of the iPhone 12 in India.
Flipkart on Twitter shared a video teasing the sale price of the iPhone 12. Interestingly, the video shows the best price to be ₹49,999(~$677). This is an enticing price compared to the ₹65,900(~$893) pricing for which the smartphone is currently selling in India. It will offer a whopping ₹15,901(~$215).
The iPhone 12 offers a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 2523 x 1170 pixels resolution. The screen comes with 625 nits of typical brightness, HDR support, and 460 PPI pixel density. The phone is powered by the Apple A14 Bionic chipset and has a 12 + 12MP dual-camera system.
In related news, the Chinese market also received a huge CNY 2000(~$310) price cut. It is worth noting that the phone was earlier retailing for CNY 6799(~$1,054) in China, but after the price cut, it is available for as low as CNY 4,799(~$744).
The Xiaomi Civi was announced today in China. Other than its stunning design and build, the specifications of the smartphone are no different from what we have seen from a lot of other upper mid-range devices. However, there is one thing that the Civi has in common with other Xiaomi flagships released this year.
Just like the Xiaomi 11 series, the Xiaomi Civi does not come with a charger included in the box. As seen in early unboxing videos, the Xiaomi Civi comes in a slim box with a thickness similar to that of the Mi 11 series. Inside the box is the phone, a clear TPU case, and the usual documents.
This is the first non-flagship Xiaomi phone that isn’t shipping with a charger included in the box. However, it appears Xiaomi is sending reviewers a power adapter with the phone. The poster above also states that those who purchase the phone will get an optional 55W GaN charger in a separate pack just as Xiaomi did with the Xiaomi Mi 11.
The Xiaomi Civi has a 6.53-inch curved AMOLED screen with a centered punch hole and a 120Hz refresh rate. There is a 32MP camera behind the cut-out in the screen and an in-display fingerprint scanner in the bottom half.

Powering the Xiaomi Civi is the Snapdragon 778G processor and it is paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of non-expandable storage. The main rear camera is a 64MP sensor and it is paired with an 8MP ultrawide angle camera and a 2MP macro camera.
Under the glass body is a 4500mAh battery with support for 55W fast charging just like the Mi 11. There is dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, infrared blaster, and dual-SIM support. Xiaomi ships the phone with MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11.

Google had temporarily shifted from the production of tablets after the release of the Google Pixel Slate in 2018. The 12.3-inch model was the last tablet delivered by the multi-functional company. Google has established itself as a search engine giant, but it has gradually incorporated some products into its persona. There are indications that Google has just patented a futuristic tablet with some design innovations mainly inspired by the latest Pixel smartphone, the Pixel 6.
The Google Pixel tablet will come without bezels and it is expected to run on Android 12 OS from the box. Google has continued to expand its product lineup from the Google Nest products to the Chromebook 2-in-1 laptops and the very popular and iconic Google Pixel smartphones.
There is a design patent for a futuristic-looking tablet filed in Japan and attributed to Google. The patent was published by Google LLC and some accompanying renders of the Pixel tablet are a pointer that Google is indeed working on the product. It could be in an advanced stage of development. The patent was possibly filed in March 2019 and the approval is believed to have been given by the Japan Patent Office in June 2021.
Not much is known about the device at this time, as per its characteristics and specifications apart from the little that could be gleaned from the accompanying renders by Google. Google provided images of the different sides of the device, revealing a bezel-less design, a full-screen design with very thin edges, and a generally stylish and appearance. The renders are lacking some key details about the device including the camera system, connections, and buttons. The design concept from the renders has however motivated designer Giuseppe Spinelli to flesh the patented design using a series of impressive 3D images.
The 3D renders reveal a punch-hole camera, buttons for volume and power like the Pixel 6, and running on Android 12 OS, Google’s latest version of its popular operating system. These 3D renders, it should be noted did not emanate from Google, hence the final outlook of the Pixel tablet, when eventually it is released, maybe fundamentally different.

The Xiaomi Civi is Xiaomi’s latest smartphone and the first of a new series. While the specs of the phone are nothing special, what really stands out is the design and the craftsmanship, an area Xiaomi has focused more on lately.
Chinese brands such as Vivo and OPPO have phones that are loved not only for their features but their design. For Vivo, it is its S series while the Reno series is OPPO’s line of design-focused smartphones. Xiaomi wants to capture this market which is pretty popular in its home country of China which is the reason why the Xiaomi Civi exists.
Most of the photos of the new smartphone have come from press renders but live images from ITHome and WHYLAB which have received the phone for review provide a better look at the phone. Trust us when we say the Xiaomi Civi is indeed a stunning phone and we are talking about both colors. The images below should convince you of that.
Xiaomi CIVI
As you can see, the Xiaomi Civi has a crystal-like finish on the back (more visible on the black variant) which refracts light and gives it an appearance similar to a star-filled sky or to sound cliche “like diamonds in the sky”. Those with a keen eye will see the finish is very similar to OPPO’s Reno Glow design. The popular Weibo account, WHYLAB, has shared photos of the black variant as well as a microscopic photo of the rear to get a closer look at the millions of tiny crystals that give the Xiaomi Civi its appearance.
Xiaomi didn’t focus on just the back of the phone. The front of the phone is home to a 6.55-inch curved display that uses COP packaging technology similar to that of the iPhones. It also has very slim bezels.
The Xiaomi Civi is powered by the Snapdragon 778G processor, has a 64MP triple rear camera setup, a 32MP selfie camera, 4500mAh battery capacity, and support for 55W fast charging.
Aside from the CIVI smartphone that was unveiled by Xiaomi today, the company equally announced some smart ecosystem products. One of them is the MIJIA Treadmill. Xiaomi has often launched treadmills under the WalkingPad brand which isn’t wholly owned by the company. The MIJIA Treadmill is the brand’s first treadmill launched under the MIJIA brand.
The MIJIA Treadmill focuses on health and just like its progenitors, it adopts a minimalist folding design, making it easy for it to be stored by just one person. With just the turn of a knob, the treadmill can be folded swiftly. When folded, it is just 19.2 cm thick and there are rollers to move it to where it to the storage point.
The treadmill adopts a seven-layer structure with super shock absorption effect. The device also has a large running area of 480mm x 250mm, with unlimited pace and smoother running. The soft rubber running belt enhances friction and resilience, and effectively protects the knee to avoid injury.
Furthermore, it has a built-in 1.25HP high-torque and low-noise motor. While stably outputting surging power, it greatly reduces running noise, so that the whole family can enjoy the fun of exercise.
According to reports, the MIJIA Treadmill supports intelligent speed regulation and is known as a personal trainer for running at home. It can support collaborative wearable device linkage perception. Users only need to pair the wearable device and start the treadmill, open the Xiaomi wearable app, link heart rate data, and monitor their exercise sessions.
At the same time, the user does not need to manually operate at all, just start the treadmill to automatically activate the wearable device to enter the exercise mode, synchronize the detection data, and synchronize the data in real-time, and even intelligently adjust the speed through the heart rate data to maintain the best heart rate zone.
In addition, the Mijia treadmill also supports intelligent linkage with the whole house, including smart products such as TVs, air conditioners, air purifiers, and speakers, which can automatically respond according to the running status of the treadmill, providing a more comfortable exercise environment and atmosphere.
The MIJIA Treadmill is priced at 2,499 yuan (~$386) and will be officially on sale from September 27. Early buyers will get the Mi Band 6 NFC version free for a limited period.

We recently posted a hands-on video of the X70 Pro+ and our first impressions of the device were pretty good. We felt it was a phone with almost no shortcomings, with the ability to capture superb photos. Now, after plenty of days of playing around with the device, we have a renewed appreciation for the X70 Pro+.
So what new discoveries have we made in the last few days? Let’s check them out.
Vivo 60 Pro+ vs X70 Pro+
The X60 Pro+ took second place in our Best Camera comparison two months ago, proving that Vivo’s imaging system is already very good. But can the newly released Vivo X70 Pro+ take things one step further and become the strongest imaging flagship phone in the second half of this year?
vivo X70 Pro Plus Full Review: Camera Performance
Let’s look at the hardware part first. Compared to the X60 Pro+, the 2x portrait lens has been upgraded from 32MP to 12MP IMX663, and the main camera has an additional piece of Zeiss optical glass. And most importantly, it is equipped with Vivo’s own V1 chip for the first time. This chip helps brighten photos and reduce noise while also decreasing power consumption.
When compared to the X60 Pro+, the new X70 Pro+ has a significantly less saturated style, which is closer to true colors. If you still think it’s too saturated, try the new Zeiss color mode, which further reduces saturation compared to Vivo’s AI color mode. Personally, I would still prefer Vivo’s automatic AI color mode.
Main Camera
1 of 14
Note that the additional ZEISS optical glass brings in very few improvements to the X70 Pro+’s main camera, except for a slightly better highlight control in the presence of light. The upgraded Zeiss T* coating is an improvement in purple-fringing control in the daytime. But this coating is not perfect, as the photo angle has to be chosen very carefully to avoid them completely.
Ultra Wide Angle Camera
1 of 16
The ultra-wide-angle lens on the X70 Pro+ has no hardware upgrades at all, so it performs almost exactly the same as the X60 Pro+. But the purple-fringing issue is significantly lessened like the main camera. Although its main camera has improved and ultra-wide-angle lens has not improved significantly, it still maintains the high standard of last year and is in no way weaker than flagship phones of other brands.
Portrait Camera
1 of 17
Let’s focus on the newly upgraded 2x portrait lens. The new portrait lens is much better than the previous generation in terms of dynamic range. And because the size of the sensor has become larger and OIS has been added, there is less noise in the picture and there won’t be any blur because of handshake. Because the amount of pixels has also been reduced, you can see obvious signs of sharpening when you zoom in. The new portrait lens has a longer focus distance, so unlike the X60 Pro+ you can’t get too close to the subject when using 2x portrait mode.
Zoom Performance
1 of 11
Like we mentioned in our Best Camera Smartphones video two months ago, the X60 Pro+’s choice of 5x zoom in night mode would crop through the main camera instead of shooting with a periscope telephoto lens, resulting in worse photo quality than in normal mode. This issue is fixed on the X70 Pro+. And even in normal mode, image purity, dynamic range, and sharpness are improved. This 5x periscope telephoto on the X70 Pro+ is substantially more usable with the new algorithm.
Judging from the previous samples, the V1 chip doesn’t seem to do much for photos. But Vivo says the V1 chip also enhances the photo experience by allowing the X70 Pro+’s viewfinder to preview in real-time in dark conditions. While, in the actual test, it is true that the preview screen of X70 Pro+ with V1 chip is a little better, but the difference is not much compared to the X60 Pro+ without this V1 chip. The actual photos taken are also different from the preview, so it looks like there is still room for improvement for the V1 chip.
One phenomenon that has existed since the X60 Pro+ and is still present on the X70 Pro+ is the algorithm for intelligent lens switching. For example, you click on 2x zoom in normal mode, but the x70 Pro+ will not always shoot with a 2x portrait lens, it will intelligently determine which lens to shoot based on the environment. Look at these 2x zoomed-in photos here, one taken with the x70 Pro+ in auto mode with intelligent judgment cropping with the main camera, and one taken with my manual Professional mode switching the 2x portrait lens. Clearly, its AI has made a mistake. So although the AI is mostly accurate, I would still like to have control over which lens I choose to take photos with. There also has been some incredible bugs in the days of our experience with the phone, such as this night mode photo, which is a very weird bug. Hopefully, the next version of the system update will fix it. So the X70 Pro+’s imaging system is not as perfect as we thought.
Video Recording
The X70 Pro+’s video recording is also of great interest to many people. The specs that each lens can record are unchanged from the X60 Pro+. The portrait lens and periscope telephoto support up to 1080p 30FPS video recording. Gimbal’s stabilization is better than the previous generation, and the jelly effect is much lessened. However, the dynamic range of the main camera and ultra-wide-angle lens basically remain the same as the x60 Pro+. The V1 chip’s optimization of video recording is reflected in the noise control, as there’s less noise than the X60 Pro+, but the relative picture also becomes more blurred. This time, the new Horizontal line anti-shake mode has been added. However, it is not recommended using it unless for special situations, because it only supports 1080P 30FPS recording.
vivo X70 Pro Plus Full Review: Hardware
As a flagship phone rather than a camera, its other hardware specifications must also be strong enough to be called Vivo’s strongest flagship phone. vivo X70 Pro+ is now not only available in vegan leather, the black version in our hands has a frosted glass back panel. And the frosted texture is relatively rough and will reflect some light spots in the sunlight. Next to the lens is a ceramic decorative plate. Because of the high reflectivity, you can even take a selfie with the main rear camera when the light is better.
While the X60 Pro+ lacked IP68 waterproofing, X-axis linear motor, and stereo speakers, these features are present on the X70 Pro+, and it also has a separate HiFi chip. It can be said that in the basic features of the X70 Pro+ there is nothing missing, but it comes at the cost of larger body size and heavier weight.
vivo X70 Pro Plus Full Review: Display
Taking good photos also needs a great screen to show it off. This time, the X70 Pro+ has a very large screen upgrade. With 2K resolution, 120Hz, the latest Samsung E5 light-emitting material, and support for LTPO dynamic refresh rate technology, this screen should theoretically be one of the most powerful screens available. But in reality, it’s a bit disappointing.
Compared to the Mi 11 Ultra, the x70 Pro+ screen appears slightly greenish and rainbow-streaked when viewed from the side. And it still has a larger curved section that can be shadowed and greenish. The fingerprint recognition is positioned downward, which is less convenient to press. In the past few days, we found that when you press the screen for a long time and then swipe, the response of the screen will become slower. We don’t know if this is intentional or a system bug, but when you use the web or Twitter, this slowdown is not a good feeling.
Of course, a flagship phone should use a flagship chip. The core specification is still the same: Snapdragon 888+, LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1. The Benchmark Test results are shown in the chart. Although the scores look good, the gaming part is more of a test of heat dissipation. Unfortunately, the gaming performance of the X70 Pro+ and X60 Pro+ is about the same.
Even when playing light games like PUBG, the X70 Pro+ can’t stabilize at 90FPS with Smooth Graphics 90 PFS settings, and larger games like Genshin Impact are even more difficult to handle. The frame rate curve also shows that Vivo is limiting the performance output of the x70 Pro+. Just when we thought it was unlikely that the X70 Pro+ would be able to play large games smoothly, we found that the V1 chip’s frame interpolation feature could be used in games, allowing them to run at 45 FPS with the screen displaying 90 FPS. In practice, the games run very stable and smoothly, and are also more power-efficient. The downside is that the image is sometimes broken and the delay in control increases. The current version of the game can become very laggy if you turn on and then turn off the frame insertion, and this feature will also be forced off once the temperature is too high. So in real life, this feature is not as good as imagined.
vivo X70 Pro Plus Full Review: Battery Life
The maximum charger power of 55w that we mentioned in the Hands-on video was a mistake on our part. In fact, the maximum power of the charger is 66w, but the phone only supports up to 55w charging power, which is the same as the X60 Pro+. What is different is that the x70 Pro+ also supports 50w wireless charging. Wired charging takes ten minutes to charge to 32%, thirty minutes to charge 80%, and 47 minutes to fully charge. Although charging with Vivo’s own charger is fast, it’s painful if you charge with other brands’ chargers. Even if you charge with a third-party charger that supports the PD protocol, the maximum power is only about 10w. The phone only charges about 6% every 10 minutes.
Battery capacity has improved compared to the previous generation, 4500mAh is the average level in the 5G era. TikTok consumes 3% for half-hour and 4% for online video.
vivo X70 Pro Plus Full Review: Verdict
It’s great to see that the X70 Pro+ is an improvement across the board, not just in the camera department. Many of the shortcomings of last year’s X60 Pro+ have been made up, on the X70 Pro+. But it’s not as perfect as Vivo advertised, and there are many issues and bugs that still need to be fixed. If Origin OS can fix the mentioned bugs and further improve usability, the next X80 Pro+ might really become the perfect photo flagship phone.

Samsung’s mid-range tablet line, the Galaxy Tab A series, is due for a new model that is expected to arrive as the Galaxy Tab A8 2021. A few weeks ago, we got an early look thanks to renders published on the web. Now the same source has revealed the specifications of the device.
The Galaxy Tab A8 (2021) will have a 10.5-inch TFT WUXGA (1920 x 1200) display according to OnLeaks who has partnered with 91Mobiles once again for this leak. We are surprised Samsung isn’t using the same 10.4-inch screen that shipped with the Galaxy Tab A7 2020.
Earlier reports have said the tablet will be powered by a Snapdragon processor like its predecessor but this new leak says otherwise. The Galaxy Tab A8 (2021) will be powered by Unisoc’s Tiger T618 chipset, the same one that is inside the HTC A100 tablet that launched in Russia a few weeks ago.
Samsung will offer the tablet in different configurations depending on the market. Some will have 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage while others will have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage or 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. While not stated, the tablet should have a MicroSD card slot for storage expansion.
The source says the tablet will have a 5MP front-facing camera and an 8MP camera on the rear. The battery capacity is 7040mAh, unchanged from the Galaxy Tab A7 2020. Last year’s model has support for 15W charging and that will likely be carried over to the Galaxy Tab A8 2021. There is also a mention of a fingerprint scanner on the side which seems unlikely for a budget tablet.
When it launches, the tablet will be available in gold, silver, and gray. It is also expected to launch in WiFi-only and LTE variants.
