Xiaomi 11T series India launch timeline tipped

Last week, the Xiaomi 11T series was unveiled for Europe and other markets. A few days from that, these smartphones are now being tipped to launch in India in the coming weeks. Let’s take a look at the release timeline hinted at by a tech influencer.

Xiaomi 11T Pro Meteorite Gray Featured

According to Mukul Sharma (@stufflistings), the Xiaomi 11T series is set to launch in India in October. He says that at least the Pro model will debut in the country next month.

That said, he does not clarify if these phones will use the same name in India. For those unaware, Xiaomi is known for using different names for the same device in multiple markets.

Additionally, it’s not known whether Xiaomi 11T Pro will arrive with support for 120W fast charging in the county due to local regulations. If the lineup is indeed coming next week, then we expect the company to start teasing its arrival and thereby confirm the charging speed as well.

The Xiaomi 11T series is the successor to last year’s Mi 10T series. The lineup includes two models, namely Xiaomi 11T and Xiaomi 11T Pro. Both feature an identical design, however, they come with slightly different specs.

For instance, the Xiaomi 11T Pro comes with Snapdragon 888, LPDDR5 RAM, 120W fast charging, Dolby Vision, Harmon Kardon speakers, 4K 60fps rear camera recording, 1080 60fps front camera recording, barometer, and color temperature sensor. Google Pixel 6 Pro NCC certification confirms 33W fast charging support

Google has already unveiled the next-generation Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro flagship smartphones and has confirmed that the devices will get launched in the fall this year, without revealing the exact timeframe.

The Google Pixel 6 Pro has passed through Taiwan’s regulatory body National Communications Commission (NCC) and it reveals that the phone will support these charging speeds — 5V/3A (15W), 9V/2A (18W), 9V/3A (27W), and 11V/3A (33W). This was first reported by XDA-Developers.

Google Pixel 6 series featured

This new report is in line with the previous report which claimed that the Pixel 6 series smartphone will have a top charging speed of 33W. This is a significant improvement in the charging speed compared to the previous generation models which were limited to 18W.

Google has also hinted that the Pixel 6 series smartphones won’t come with a charger in the box. So, there’s no cost to the company as it won’t be bundling the 33W power adapter and the search engine giant will be selling the charger separately.

Many flagship smartphones these days, especially the ones from Chinese brands, comes with support for much faster charging. Currently, the top charging speed for a flagship smartphone is 120W but 200W wired charging technology has already been announced and is expected to be available in smartphones from next year.

However, the charging speed reported for the Pixel 6 series falls in line with the charging speed of smartphones from Samsung and Apple. The South Korean giant offers 45W top speed on its device while Apple’s iPhone 13 lineup has support for up to 25W charging.

The Pixel 6 comes with a 6.4-inch Full HD+ display offering a 90Hz refresh rate while the Pro model has a 6.7-inch QHD+ display offering a 120Hz refresh rate. The standard model features a dual-camera setup on the back while the Pixel 6 Pro has a triple-camera setup — a wide-angle lens, an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 4x telephoto lens.

The photography performance is expected to top the charts as the chipset is said to be focused on photo output and uses artificial intelligence along with machine learning.

The highlight of the Pixel 6 series remains its processor as the phones will come powered by Google’s own chipset — Tensor. Apart from on-device AI and ML capability, the chip is also claimed to have significant improvement in translation, captioning, and dictation. The chipset is likely to be an unreleased Samsung Exynos 9855 SoC.

AUO’s 85-inch 240Hz 4K TV is an incredible console gaming centerpiece

AU Optronics Corp. (AUO), a company that specializes in optoelectronics solutions, has an aim to take on the ruling 85-inch Samsung Neo QLED with its next-gen display. AUO already has an 85-inch TV that was launched long ago and the company is now finally moving towards revamping the existing model with extra additions of a 4K panel and significantly higher refresh rates.

Even though we are still in the dark as the product page is yet to go live from the company’s end, DigiTimes Asia claims to have the details of the upcoming display. The most prominent bit is the 240Hz variable refresh rate (VRR) throughout the 85-inch 4K display. We expect it to be a native measurement, but it could also be a measurement obtained through intelligent processing wizardry. TV makers are known for following this technique called frame interpolation, for which they use their own nomenclature such as TruMotion by LG, MotionFlow XR by Sony, etc. This is what we know as the soap opera effect.

Well, this isn’t something new as AUO has already proved to be a leading panel maker with its 65-inch 144Hz Big Format Gaming Displays (BFGDs) in collaboration with NVIDIA. So, creating something even better shouldn’t come as a surprise for a company that is already doing an excellent job in this domain.

Bandwidth is a downside as the company has opted for the HDMI 2.1 port. However, it could still support a 4K resolution at 240Hz, albeit with Display Stream Compression (DSC). The better option would have been a DisplayPort 2.0 input. Additionally, the new display is also said to have an “ultra-high dynamic range” along with 96% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space.

With Samsung‘s high emphasis on brightness and successful implementation, AUO was forced to work on this and has provided a special anti-reflection coating to enhance the viewing experience in bright environments on this TV. With all these features packed in the display, AUO’s new 85-inch TV may turn out to be a delight for gamers and enthusiasts.

Apple’s iPadOS 15 increases RAM cap for applications

Apple has been making the iPad more and more powerful with each iteration and the recently launched iPad Pro, which comes powered by the Apple M1 chipset, the technology giant is blurring the lines between the iPad and MacBook.

Despite the most powerful iPad and the MacBook being powered by the same chipset — Apple Silicon’s M1, there’s remains one major issue — software. The Mac devices are powered by the macOS and the iPad is powered by the iPadOS which is a tweaked iOS.

In the iPadOS, the third-party applications are limited to using just 5GB of RAM even though the tablet comes powered by 8GB and 16GB RAM. This is to ensure that a single application doesn’t utilize all of the memory and impact other core system functions.

Apple iPad Pro

With the latest iPadOS 15, it appears that Apple has increased the cap on RAM usage for third-party applications. In iPad Pro powered by 16GB RAM, developers can request 12GB of RAM while 4GB RAM will be reserved for the core system functions.

Similarly, for the device powered by 8GB RAM, the company is reserving 2GB RAM to system functions and allowing developers to use 6GB RAM. The iPad models with less than 5GB RAM will have the same limits as before.

The change in the memory allocation in iPadOS will be beneficial to applications that are more graphically intensive, such as apps that support drawing, modeling, photo editing or video editing, among others.

Apple has said that new entitlement will be available on the “supported devices” but the tech giant hasn’t revealed the list of supported devices, so at this point in time, it’s not known which devices will support it, apart from the iPad Pro.

The latest iPadOS 15 comes with some new features and several additions and improvements to the existing ones. The software is set to be released this Monday, i.e. 20th September along with the iOS 15, tvOS 15, and watchOS 8.

The company has just completed the maiden voyage of its all-electric aircraft.Rolls-Royce electric aircraft

The Rolls-Royce all-electric aircraft is aptly named Spirit of Innovation, completed its maiden 15-minute voyage, thus signposting the beginning of an intensive flight testing phase for the company that affords it to log important performance data on the aircraft. The main focus of the testing will be on the Spirit of Innovation’s electrical and propulsion system, according to Rolls-Royce.Rolls-Royce electric aircraft

The Spirit of Innovation is a one-seat airplane that has, in Rolls-Royce’s view, the most power-dense battery pack ever assembled for any aircraft. The aircraft is powered by a 6000 cell battery pack which delivers about 500HP with a three-motor powertrain. The aircraft, according to Rolls-Royce will have a top speed in the range of 300 miles per hour.

Rolls-Royce has made significant progress in the development of this aircraft despite some challenges that led to missing the initial target of 2020 for the maiden flight of the Spirit of Innovation. The aircraft also underwent successful ground testing about six months back through the taxi trials. The company is also working at developing an air taxi in partnership with Tecnam, as it pursues its objective of delivering all-electric aircraft for the commuter market.

The expected benefits in the ultimate transition of air travel to electric-powered aircraft are massive, as it will cut down significantly the greenhouse emission attributed to air travel. However, some fundamental challenges still need to be overcome including finding the right balance and weight that will provide optimal performance of such electric aircraft. It is known that electric vehicles are much heavier than gas-powered cars, and this is also applicable to aircraft.

The collaborative engagement for the Spirit of Innovation’s maiden flight also includes The UK government and Aerospace Technology Institute which provided funding. Even though we may be several years away from a commercial all-electric flight, this milestone is a move in the right direction.

Amazon shuts 3,000 online stores operated by 600 Chinese brands over paid reviews

Amazon is the world’s largest e-commerce company and this puts a lot of responsibility on it to sustain the ethical and professional standards required of it. Amazon continues to finetune its responsiveness to policy violations by online merchant stores to continue to safeguard the consumers from unethical conduct. It is in pursuit of this objective that the company has revealed that it has shut down about 3,000 online stores operated by about 600 Chinese brands. The reason for the action was because of consistent infractions of these stores in incentivized or paid reviews on their online stores registered on Amazon.Amazon Logo Dark

The current crackdown is the largest ever accomplished by Amazon and has affected some popular Chinese companies. The blacklisting also includes a freeze of the funds of these defaulters by Amazon. However, according to Amazon, the current move did not affect the growth outlook of Chinese firms on the platform. Amazon VP Asia Global Selling, Cindy Tai stated this in an interview monitored from China.

The issue of paid reviews is a serious policy violation and it has been banned since 2016. Customers rely on the accuracy and authenticity of product reviews to make their purchasing decision and the fidelity of this process is at the heart of the e-commerce model. Amazon says it will continue to improve its internal mechanisms to flag defaulters or serial offenders in paid reviews and other policy violations.

The move by Amazon has led to some of the popular brands seeking alternative e-commerce platforms to continue their operations on eBay and AliExpress among others. Amazon is also shoring up consumer confidence through its unprecedented action and hopes to continue flourishing as the world’s leading e-commerce company.
