Apple’s plan for foldable iPhone is of interest to many in the industry

Apple is anticipated to announce the first folding iPhone in 2023, and the numerous patents suggest that the Cupertino giant has been working on them since 2016. As per industry experts, Apple is working on two types of foldables, the whose upper and lower sides meet each other and one whose right and left sides meet each other much like Samsung Z Flip and Z Fold.

It is being said that Apple and Samsung are co-developing a foldable OLED panel upcoming folding iPhone. The panel is rumored to be a 7.5-inch in-folding display panel employing etching for a decrease in thickness. Apple’s first folding iPhone is expected to be a clamshell smartphone.

Foldable iPhone Self-Healing Screen Patent

As per research from market research firm DSCC, Samsung Electronics’ share in the foldable smartphone market is expected to be 87 percent last year. It is unlikely to fall below 75 percent even after the debut of Apple’s first foldable smartphone. According to an industry source, “Apple will not be able to lead the foldable smartphone market for a while with the market being led by Samsung Electronics and Chinese manufacturers such as Huawei and Xiaomi releasing such products.”

Earlier this Ming-Chi Kuo suggested a 2023 launch for the folding iPhone, but “the project hasn’t yet officially kicked off,’ which could mean that they could even get delayed or could even be shelved like the much-awaited AirPower. The folding iPhone is expected to be more of an iPad-like device, and it’ll measure  7.5-8-inch when folded out.

According to a recent study from Counterpoint Research and Strategy Analytics, the market size of foldable smartphones is estimated to reach 90 million units in 2023 and 100 million units in 2025. This suggests that foldables will be the next big thing in the smartphone industry in the coming years.

Industry insider hints Huawei will launch the Mate 50 in October

Chinese tech powerhouse Huawei has had a bag of mixed fortunes since the US blacklisted the company from accessing important US supplies a few years back. Back in July, there was a raft of product releases that indicated a silver lining in the dark skies. The July offering included the flagship P50 series. However, there were speculations that due to the US ban, as well as supply chain challenges, Huawei might not be able to release another flagship product within 2021, although the Mate 50 had already been mooted for unveiling within the fourth quarter of the year.

There are indications that Huawei might have overcome all the constraints and indeed the Mate 50 series is set for its October 2021 release as scheduled. This hint is coming from an industry expert and analyst with Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), who insists that Huawei will release the flagship products in October as planned.

Tracking the event schedule of Huawei, there is a global launch event officially slated for October 21 in Vienna, Austria, and the Mate 50 series could be part of the product lineup for the Vienna event. Huawei is however yet to offer any official confirmation that the global event on October 21 will also include the launch of the Mate 50. The global event could also be the global launch of the P50 series outside China.

Many details about the Huawei Mate 50 series are still under wraps except for few details that could be pieced from the teaser. More details about the device and key specs will become available as we inch closer to the rumored October 21 unveiling. Since there has not been any official confirmation from Huawei, the speculation may also be false. The coming weeks will determine the direction.

Design

The Lenovo Tab P12 Pro 5G is a premium tablet built with solid materials: it is made of aluminum and it comes with very narrow bezels around the display. It is a device meant for productivity and gaming, so for those who want to use it as a PC as well. That is the reason why you can attach a physical keyboard to it. The tablet even comes with stylus support for handwriting and drawing. It is very thin: the thickness is just 5.6 mm and it makes the Lenovo P12 Pro 5G one of the thinnest tablets out there. The Lenovo Tab P11 5G is thicker, but it has a more compact body because it comes with a smaller display. It is built with cheaper materials, but it supports a stylus and a physical keyboard as well. The borders around the display are thicker as well, but the tablet still offers a high screen to body ratio.

Display

The display of the Lenovo P12 Pro 5G is way better if compared to the panel of the Lenovo P11 5G. It is an AMOLED panel with a wider 12.6-inch diagonal, a Quad HD+ resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, the HDR10+ certification, and Dolby Vision support. Besides being superior to the Lenovo P11 5G, this is one of the most advanced displays in the tablet market, even better than the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 series. If you want a display at the same level, you must go either for an iPad or for one of the most expensive Samsung Galaxy Tabs. For authentication, the Lenovo P12 Pro 5G relies on a side-mounted fingerprint reader or a TOF sensor for 3D facial recognition, while Lenovo P11 5G has just the TOF 3D sensor.

Specs & Software

In terms of the hardware department, Lenovo P12 Pro 5G is a flagship tablet, while the Lenovo P11 5G is a mid-ranger. The P12 Pro has a Snapdragon 870 mobile platform, up to 8 GB of RAM, and up to 256 GB of internal storage. You get the very same memory configurations with the Lenovo P11 5G, but the processor is the Snapdragon 750G. Both chipsets support 5G connectivity, but the former is much more powerful. The tablets run Android 11 out of the box.

Camera

Lenovo Tab P12 Pro 5G and P11 5G are equipped with a 13 MP main camera. The Tab P12 Pro 5G adds a 5 MP secondary ultrawide sensor, while the P11 5G does not have it. On the front side, both the tablets pack an 8 MP main camera and an 8 MP TOF 3D sensor for 3D facial recognition. The camera performances are not different, given that the ultrawide camera is the only difference between the two tablets.

Battery

Thanks to its bigger dimensions, the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro 5G is able to house a bigger battery with a capacity of 10,020 mAh. It even supports a faster charging technology with a power of 45W. The P11 5G has just 7700 mAh and 20W fast charging. So you get both longer battery life and faster charging speeds.

Price

The Lenovo Tab P12 Pro 5G will be available in the U.S. from October starting from $610, while in Europe it will cost €899. The Lenovo Tab P11 5G is heading to the European markets with a starting price of €499. While the tablets are pretty similar when it comes to the cameras, there are deep differences in the other aspects such as displays, hardware, and battery. Naturally, the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro 5G is a way better device. But there is also an important price difference between the two models. Which one would you pick?

Nokia G50 5G certified by FCC indicating an imminent launch

Nokia G50 5G has been the subject of some speculation in the past few weeks with some images of the premium device leaked. The trajectory leading to its ultimate release is further accentuated by the fact that the G50 5G has gotten the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification. The FCC listing further confirmed some of the details about the smartphone earlier gotten through leaks.Nokia G50 5G

The Nokia G50 5G, as expected, supports 5G connectivity and also has a 4,850mAh battery capacity. The FCC certification has authorized the use of the stated battery on the device at certain GSM, NR, LTE, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi frequencies. The FCC listing also provided a schematic representation of the designated safety label location, but no renders of the actual device are presented.

We are sure of some of the specs already released for the Nokia G50 5G. It will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 480 SoC, which is Qualcomm’s first chipset with 5G capability. The Nokia X10 and X20 smartphones also have the Snapdragon 480. The Nokia G59 5G will have a 6.38-inch HD+ display, and we expect that this will also come with a decent display refresh rate. While the 4,850mAh battery could offer a fairly long period of continuous use, only 10W charging support is available.

The Nokia G50 5G will have a triple rear camera setup with some tipsters affirming that this includes a 48MP main sensor. The price of the Nokia G50 5G should not be priced below $250 and it’s a mid-ranger.

Funtouch OS 12 gets an early reveal ahead of Vivo X70 global launch

Vivo, like many other manufacturers, has its own custom Android fork. Called Funtouch OS, the custom UI has powered Vivo phones for years. However, last year, Vivo unveiled a new UI dubbed OriginOS that has replaced Funtouch OS for devices sold in China. An earlier report had erroneously said that OriginOS will get a global debut when the Vivo X70 series launches, but that won’t be the case as Vivo has quietly unveiled Funtouch OS 12.

Funtouch OS 12

The Funtouch OS 12 page is now live on the Vivo India website and it reveals some of the new features it is bringing to Vivo phones.

One of the new features coming to Funtouch OS is a redesigned widget system. The design of the new widgets appears to have been carried over from OriginOS. They are more functional and Vivo claims they should help users be more productive.

Funtouch OS 12 Nano Music Player

Another feature is the Nano Music Player that is sort of a mini-player for controlling playback from Spotify, Joox, or files from your local storage.

Funtouch OS 12 Extended RAM

Last but not least is Extended RAM, a feature that has become increasingly popular on a lot of phones these days. With Extended RAM, the phone allocates part of the ROM storage (up to 4GB) to the RAM space so apps can run a bit more smoothly.

We expect more details will be revealed on September 22 when Vivo plans to announce the X70 series globally. We should also get details about current phones that will receive the update and when to expect them.

Man who duped AT&T by unlocking 1.9 million units sentenced to 12 years imprisonment

Out of all the innovative frauds, Muhammad Fahd, a Pakistan and Grenada national, will be known for his daring approach of continued ploying even when he knew authorities were after him. Department of Justice says that Fahd who unlocked 1.9 million AT&T customers’ phones has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

att fraud

The story was unfolded in a news release from the DOJ where it was revealed that Muhammad Fahd approached an AT&T employee on Facebook and offered him a good amount of money in return for a favor from him that’d help Fahd unlock AT&T phones.  Unlocking the device would free customers from AT&T’s services and any additional payments associated with that.

Fahd is said to have persuaded alias Frank Zhang to bring more workers on board at its call center in Bothell, Washington in order to run a full-fledged business based on this. Customers were duped into believing that all this was authentic as Fahd cleverly set phony bank accounts, fictitious invoices, etc., giving an impression that everything was legitimate.

Learning the incidents and loopholes, AT&T established a new unlocking system in 2013 that made breaching a touch job. But man was in no mood to stop and hired a developer to sneak into AT&T’s systems and help him unlock phones more efficiently. The DOJ says, AT&T employees gave him details about the company’s systems and unlocking methods to help exploit the company. The malware deployed by Fahd & crew is said to have obtained information about the system and other AT&T employees’ access credentials, allowing the developer to further mutate the malware.

The 7-year-long saga of unlocking nearly 2 million phones cost AT&T more than $200 million dollars. Fahd was later busted in Hong Kong in 2018 and extradited to the U.S. in 2019. He was later indicted for wire fraud.

More information on victims other than AT&T still remains a mystery as no incidents on a customer data breach or additional fraud ever came to light.

How to connect Bluetooth headphones/speaker to your Nintendo Switch/Switch Lite

Earlier this week, Nintendo announced an update for the Switch handheld consoles that brought a much-requested feature – Bluetooth Audio support. The Switch consoles have Bluetooth, but prior to the release of this update, users could only connect compatible controllers to the consoles but never an audio device. Four years after the Switch was released, this new update now allows users to connect their Bluetooth wireless headphones and speakers to their consoles.

If you are wondering how to connect your favorite Bluetooth earphones (and or speaker), this guide should make it easy for you. Below are the steps to get your Bluetooth devices connected to your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite:

Nintendo Switch Lite Software version

Step 1 – Check that your Switch is running the latest software version

To be able to pair your Bluetooth audio device, you have to confirm that your device is updated to the latest software version. Below are the steps to check the software version your console is running:

  1. Go to System Settings on your Nintendo Switch console. To do this, select the Gear Icon at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Scroll down to System, and you should see the current version of your console on the right side of the screen.

To be able to connect a Bluetooth audio device, your console must be running version 13.0.0 and above. So if your device is running a lower version, you have to update your device. If your device is running version 13.0.0 and above, you can jump to step 3.

Step 2 – Update your Nintendo Switch

To update your Nintendo Switch console, simply tap ‘System Update’. Your system should check for an update and download one if there is. Your device will need to restart once the update is downloaded and installed.

Once you are running the required version for Bluetooth audio device support, follow the steps below to connect your Bluetooth audio device.

  1. Go to System Settings as described in step 1.
  2. Scroll down on the left pane to the bottom of the screen. You should see a new menu called Bluetooth Audio.
  3. Select Pair Device on the right pane. If you have AirPlane Mode turned on, it will ask you to turn it off.
  4. Put on your Bluetooth audio device and make sure it is in pairing mode.
Your Nintendo Switch will search for available Bluetooth devices.
  5. Once you see your Bluetooth device, select it and the console will be paired to it.

Voila! Your favorite Bluetooth audio device is now connected to your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite.

A Motorola tablet is coming to India: Tipster

The once dead Android tablet category is surging again, thanks to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Old players like Xiaomi have made a comeback, in addition to new entrants like realme. According to a new report, Motorola will be also joining the tablet race once again.

Tipster Yogesh Brar has partnered with 91Mobiles to bring information about the upcoming Motorola tablet. As per the leaker, this product will be launched in India ahead of Flipkart Big Billion Days.

Unfortunately, he does not have any details regarding the specs of this tablet. But he suggests that it could be a rebranded Lenovo product. Additionally, he also says that it will run stock Android and will cost under ₹20,000.

Going by the price, this forthcoming Motorola tablet could be the 3rd gen Lenovo Tab M7 or Lenovo Tab M8. These devices were announced in late June and they are yet to make their way to India. Hence, it makes sense that the Motorola tablet could be indeed one of the new entry-level Lenovo tablets.
