UMIDIGI teases its first tablet is coming soon, will have a 2K display and a detachable keyboard

The tablet market has picked up after a few years of declining sales, and now almost every manufacturer wants a piece of the pie including those that  never cared for the tablet space before.  UMIDIGI is one of such new players and it has teased the arrival of its very first tablet.

The Chinese manufacturer has announced that its first Android tablet is coming soon and it will launch as the UMIDIGI A11 Tab. The teasers give us an early look at the design and also provide some details of the device.

As seen in the image above, the UMIDIGI A11 Tab will have a pretty large display. While the size is unknown, our guess is that it is about 11-inches in size. What we do know is that the screen has a 2K resolution. It also has curved corners and is surrounded by moderately sized bezels of equal thickness. The tablet is shown to have its front-facing camera on the left side bezel if you were to hold the device in portrait mode.

UMIDIGI A11 Tab 2K display

The back of the tab appears to be made of metal and the antenna lines add a bit of detail to the overall appearance of the device. The corners are curved which should make it comfortable to hold for a long while. There is a single camera on the back and it sits in a small housing along with an LED flash. In landscape mode, the power button is on your right while the volume control buttons are at the top. While there are four grilles – two on each side – we can’t confirm the UMIDIGI A11 Tab has four speakers.

UMIDIGI A11 Tab giveaway

UMIDIGI is running a giveaway for the yet-to-be-announced tablet and the promotional poster reveals that the A11 Tab will have a detachable keyboard case. The keyboard is shown to have a touchpad unlike that of Xiaomi’s Mi Pad 5 series.

UMIDIGI is yet to announce a release date for the tablet. Once it does, we will be sure to inform you, but before then keep your eyes peeled for more details about the device.

Elon Musk confirms Starlink will Transfer Data close to 97% of the Speed of Light

Unbridled by the constraints of traditional ground infrastructure, Starlink has the potential to deliver high-speed broadband internet to remote locations. With an aim to deliver services internationally, Starlink is now operational as a beta for the early birds and is continuously expanding. The only downside being in beta is the internet speed but it looks like that will be taken care of very soon. Responding to a query, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has claimed that Starlink satellite internet service will have the capability of data transfer as high as the speed of light. SpaceX plans to deploy laser-equipped satellites into orbit that will play a major role in eliminating the reliance on ground stations.

starlink-image

At present, the Starlink network relies on a dish, satellites, and ground stations. From what it looks like, the company is aiming to get rid of these ground stations that have proved to be a hindrance to fast data transfers due to the long time they take to communicate with the satellites. With lasers, the transmission speed, as Musk claims, is expected to be around 40% faster than what it usually is in optical fibers. As a result, we might witness blazing fast internet transfer capabilities without having the need to touch the ground.

Considering Musk’s statement and calculating the speed based on the existing speed with optical fiber, Starlink will be able to transfer data packets at 180,832 miles per second and it turns out that this speed is approximately 97% of the speed of light in a vacuum.

Musk has ensured that Starlink will soon cut down the ground station element from the whole of Arctic and provide enough bandwidths as well. Considering the fast-paced developments in the SpaceX camp, this doesn’t seem far-fetched. SpaceX plans to further increase the data capacity by three folds, reduce latencies to 50ms, and enhance coverage to polar regions with the help of the company’s second-generation satellites.

SpaceX is also accelerating the launch of a little above 1,200 Starlink satellites over the next few months but may face a little delay due to rocket oxidizer shortages and a tedious satellite manufacturing process.

Madhav Sheth shows off the Realme 8s 5G in Blue

The Realme 8s 5G is one of many new products Realme has planned for release this month. The new smartphone will launch as the first phone powered by MediaTek’s new Dimensity 810 processor. Ahead of the launch, Realme’s CEO has shared a photo of the phone.

The Realme 8s 5G is shown in blue in the photo and while we can only see the rear side, there are a number of details it reveals. For starters, the Realme 8s 5G will have triple rear cameras even though the camera array is set up to look like there are four sensors. This is the same design as that of the Realme 8 5G.

We can also see the indentation on the side of the frame where the power button is positioned, which confirms that the Realme 8s 5G will have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The volume buttons are on the left side of the frame.

In this photo, the phone is shown in blue with a light streak that runs from the top to the bottom of the phone. However, we expect there will be other colors at launch.

Apart from having a Dimensity 810 processor, it has been reported that the Realme 8s 5G will have a 6.5-inch screen with a 90Hz refresh rate. The processor will be paired with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage.

Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 global version gets unboxed, price revealed too

Xiaomi has a launch scheduled for September 15 and one of the products expected to be announced at the global event is the Mi Pad 5/Pad 5. While there is still no confirmation the tablet will be unveiled on that day, we can confirm that the new tablet will indeed get a global release thanks to an unboxing video that has been uploaded on the internet.

The video was uploaded on Instagram by the Belarusian store NSV.by. The store has also put up a post on the social media platform that says the Mi Pad 5 is now available for pre-order.

In the video which was reposted on Twitter by Xiaomiui, we see the Xiaomi Pad 5 will come in a white box just like the Chinese variant. However, this box is significantly thicker than the one that is sold in China, thanks to the included accessories such as a charger and USB cable.

The film on top of the tablet shows a few specs such as a WQHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, quad spealers, a Snapdragon 860 processor, and a dual-cell 8720mAh battery. The video also shows that the global version of the Mi Pad 5 will be available in white and black colorways.

The store has put a price tag of BYN 1199 (~$479) on the tablet and this gets you the variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. This is significantly higher than the CNY 1999 (~$310) price tag in China. We will have to wait until the global launch to know if the official price will be lower.

HUAWEI has access to Snapdragon 778G, Snapdragon 898 chipsets: Tipster

At the end of July, Huawei announced the HUAWEI P50 series. Unlike its predecessors, the new lineup is not only limited to 4G but also comes with a Qualcomm SoC. Now, as per a reliable tipster, the company will be using more Qualcomm chipsets in the future.

HUAWEI P50

According to Digital Chat Station, Huawei has got access to two other Qualcomm Snapdragon SoCs other than Snapdragon 888. These are Snapdragon 778G and the upcoming SM8450 (aka Snapdragon 898).

Just like the HUAWEI P50 series phones, the handsets using these chipsets will also lack 5G connectivity. That’s because Huawei will be getting a special 4G version due to the US sanctions. Unfortunately, the leaker does not mention which HUAWEI phones will be using these two SoCs.

Going by the Chinese tech giant’s now disrupted smartphone release cycle, the 4G version of Snapdragon 778G might power the rumored HUAWEI nova 9 series. On the other hand, the 4G variant of the unreleased SM8450 could drive the delayed HUAWEI Mate 50 series.

As of now, we don’t have any solid proof for this claim. However, since most of the information shared by Digital Chat Station has been accurate so far, the new details posted by him on Weibo could also be indeed true.

Last but not least, the leaker also says that Huawei might also use MediaTek chipsets, however, the deal is yet to be finalized.

‘MIUI Pure Mode’ protects users from malicious apps

Lately, Xiaomi has been working on improving MIUI, which is not only the company’s mobile operating system based on Android but also its first-ever product. This year itself, the Chinese tech giant has released two new minor updates, namely MIUI 12.5 and MIUI 12.5 Enhanced Edition. Additionally, it is also working on multiple other features. One of these latest features is ‘MIUI Pure Mode’.

Redmi k40 Pro Review 05

Xiaomi has started recruiting testers for a new feature called ‘MIUI Pure Mode’ in China. This is an optional feature that helps users in protecting themselves from malicious applications.

The company says that due to the open nature of Android, users can easily become a victim of an attack through hostile applications. The smartphone maker explains that 40% of apps installed by MIUI users have never passed its security audit. Also, 10% have been recognized as potential risks.

To fix this, Xiaomi is introducing MIUI Pure Mode. When this feature is enabled, users cannot install apps from external sources. Also, it blocks any installation happening in the background without the consent of users.

Unlike Apple, Xiaomi lets users disable this feature. Hence, they can install apps from other sources if they want to.

As of now, it’s not known when MIUI Pure Mode will make its way to the stable channel. Most importantly, there’s also no information regarding its availability in international markets.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 first Geekbench score confirms it indeed is a powerhouse

All eyes are on Qualcomm‘s next flagship chipset – Snapdragon 898 (SM8450), which will be powering a bunch of upcoming premium devices. It has already been confirmed that the chipset is going to be manufactured using Samsung’s 4nm process and will have a 20% increment in performance. Well, to corroborate the earlier claims, we now have the first Geekbench scores and it runs on an imminent flagship from Vivo with model name, Vivo V2102A.

snapdragon-898-geekbench-score

With a score of 720 for single-core and 1919 for multi-core, Snapdragon 898 appears to be on top of the realm in this fierce competition. If we go by Geekbench benchmarks for multi-core, Snapdragon 898 will have a comfortable win over the others. Among other specifications are a dual Part 3400 architecture, and an Adreno 730 GPU. The current run-point version, though, is the same as the original SM8350.

snapdragon-898-geekbench-code

Additionally, Snapdragon 898 chipset has a total of 8 cores, and for now, the main frequency appears to be just 1.78Ghz, the renowned leakster Digital Chat Station is hopeful that these numbers will certainly rise as soon as the mass production kicks off. And with improvements this radical, expect power consumption to be on the higher side, too.

As learned earlier, the production will be split between Samsung and TSMC, and it appears that the Plus variant of the Snapdragon 898 processor may hit the market as early as the second quarter of 2022. Interestingly, Vivo will be among the first few brands to launch a smartphone powered by Snapdragon 898. We will have more information in this regard when the processor gets officially unveiled in December Qualcomm Summit.

Amazon’s own Alexa-powered TV reportedly in the works, hitting the US soon

US e-commerce giant Amazon is reportedly planning to launch a new line of its own-branded smart TV in the United States. The TVs are said to be planned for launch in early October according to a report first carried by Business Insider. AmazonBasics 43-inch Fire TV Edition 4K Featured 01

Amazon isn’t new to the TV segment per se. The brand presently sells a wide variety of self-branded products in India under the AmazonBasics label. The line includes Fire OS-powered smart TV models in different sizes. In January this year,  the brand expanded its portfolio by releasing three new models that are targeted at first-time smart TV buyers.

Business Insider quotes sources with knowledge of information described as a “closely guarded secret” to have hinted that the smart TVs will pack Alexa support. The TVs will also be available in different sizes ranging from 55- to 75-inches in size. Just like most of the Amazon-branded products, the TV will reportedly be manufactured by Chinese firm TCL but this time around, one of the models will be manufactured directly by Amazon.AmazonBasics 43-inch Fire TV Edition 4K Featured

We believe Amazon is bringing the smart TVs sold under the AmazonBasics moniker in India to the US. Although there is a basic 32-inch version with FullHD resolution in India, there are other models ranging from 43-inch, 50-inch, and 55-inch displays with 4K resolutions.

There is no word yet on the pricing of the smart TV models but the AmazonBasics TV 55-inch is on sale in India for Rs 42,999 in India (~$589). Thus, the smart TV will start at around $600 in the US.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE Quick Start Guide leaks via a US carrier, point to an imminent launch

There has been a lot of rumors and leaks surrounding the Galaxy S21 FE series. The device is also highly anticipated even though Samsung is yet to disclose when it will be launched. There are rumors that the device will go official in October. Apparently, the rumors may be true after all. The Galaxy S21 FE’s quick start guide has just leaked from a US carrier Cricket Wireless. The carrier is an AT&T-owned prepaid carrier that offers affordable phone plans that aren’t tied to annual contracts.Samsung Galaxy S21 FE Cricket Wireless

The guide shows that the phone will be offered by the carrier and that the launch is close by. It also confirms some of the vital info for users as well as live images of the affordable flagship device.

The Galaxy S21 FE is a highly-anticipated device mainly due to its ability to offer flagship features found on the Galaxy S21 series at an affordable price. The device will take over from the Galaxy S20 FE which was a hit when it was released last year.Samsung Galaxy S21 FE

This new leak comes not too long after the user manual for the S21 FE leaked online showing the device won’t have a MicroSD slot, among other things. The manual also reveals the device will also come with an IP68 waterproof rating, a high display refresh rate, and will feature an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor among others. The device will also miss out on a charging adapter inside the box.

While the Galaxy S21 FE 5G is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset, a recent GeekBench listing shows that there will be an Exynos 2100 version as well. This has left some fans disappointed considering the below-par performance the Exynos version will provide compared to the Snapdragon-n model.

There is still no word yet from the Korean tech giant regarding a launch date but we expect an announcement to be made in that regard soon.

Design

OPPO always pays a lot of attention to the realization of the designs of its phones, including the affordable ones. The OPPO A54 5G is the device with the most interesting design not only for attention to the details but even for its sleek body. It is thin and lightweight despite its big battery, and it has a high screen-to-body ratio. The Redmi Note 10T 5G has bigger dimensions and a less impressive design, but it comes with the Gorilla Glass 3 protection which makes the display panel sturdier. All these phones are built with polycarbonate and they do not include premium materials.

Display

On the paper, the OPPO A54 5G has a superior display: unlike Redmi Note 10T 5G and Realme 8 5G, it has an LTPS panel which is a more advanced kind of LCD display. But the specifications are the same for each device: a diagonal of 6.5 inches, a Full HD+ resolution, and a 90 Hz refresh rate. The phones are equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint reader for authentication and they have a single punch hole on the front.

Hardware/Software

The most advanced phone if we talk about the hardware department is the Realme 8 5G. It has the same processor as the Redmi Note 10T 5G: an octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 700 built with a 7 nm production process and belonging to the mid-end segment (low-end if we only consider 5G phones). But the amount of RAM is higher: in the most expensive configuration, it comes with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.1 native storage. The Redmi Note 10T 5G goes up to 6 GB of RAM, but it features UFS 2.2 storage. The three handsets run Android 11 out of the box.

Camera

If you need the best camera phone, you should go for the OPPO A54 5G without thinking twice. It has a brighter focal aperture for the main 48 MP sensor and it adds an 8 MP ultrawide camera, unlike Redmi Note 10T 5G and Realme 8 5G. Further, it has the best front camera with a 16 MP resolution and an f/2.0 focal aperture.

Battery

These phones come with the same battery capacity: 5000 mAh. And given that the components are similar, you should not expect important differences in terms of battery life. Note that OPPO A54 5G lacks fast charging, while Redmi Note 10T 5G and Realme 8 5G support it.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10T 5G vs OPPO A54 5G vs Realme 8 5G: Price

You can actually find OPPO A54 5G and Realme 8 5G for less than €200/$240 in the global market, while in India they start from Rs. 13,990 and Rs. 15,499 online. Redmi Note 10T 5G is priced at Rs. 14,999 in India and it is still not available globally. Overall, the OPPO A54 5G is slightly more interesting (even though not for everyone): despite it lacks fast charging and it has an inferior chipset, it comes with better cameras.
