OPPO MagVOOC magnetic flash charging tech with 20W wireless charging support unveiled

Recently, an OPPO trademark for MagVOOC was spotted online. The device is believed to be OPPO’s magnetic flash charging technology similar to the recently launched Realme MagDart and Apple’s Magsafe. OPPO has now officially unveiled the MagVOOC magnetic flash charging technology at the China International Smart Industry Expo 2021.

OPPO unveiled not one but three concept products: MagVOOC magnetic wireless power bank, MagVOOC ultra-thin portable magnetic charger, and MagVOOC vertical magnetic charger Wireless charging base.

The MagVOOC ultra-thin portable magnetic charger adopts an innovative split design whereby the transmitter coil and the main board are separate. This design not only makes the transmitter base lighter and thinner but also prevents the heat generated by the main board from being transferred to the phone. Thus, the heat won’t have any effect on the charging rate. This design is different from Realme’s MagDart magnetic wireless charging technology that requires a fan to dissipate heat.

OPPO describes the MagVOOC magnetic wireless power bank as equivalent to the “external battery” of a mobile phone. The magnetic power bank is compatible with the Qi standard and equally features support for 20W wireless charging and 10W wired charging for mobile phones. The power bank is touted to be capable of charging a 4500mAh battery in just 2 hours.

In terms of the appearance, MagVOOC magnetic wireless power bank is small and portable, which can further meet the charging needs of users in travel and indoor scenarios. The magnet assists the alignment of the power bank with the mobile phone thus removing that challenge.

OPPO didn’t reveal the availability details of the products but popular tipster Digital Chat Station has disclosed that there are no mass-production plans for the MagVOOC magnetic flash charging products for now.

The Chinese tech giant shared the news through its official Twitter handle stating that “We promise this will be an exciting moment for all of you!” Unfortunately, the company did not reveal any finer details regarding the September 15 global launch event. Although, it is likely that the brand will officially announce the Mi Pad 5 series of tablets in the global market. Similarly, we had also reported on the company gearing up to launch the Mi 11T next month as well. However, unlike the Mi Pad 5, our sources had revealed that the brand would launch the new smartphone on September 23.

Motorola Edge 20 sale delayed in India, Pre-Order now starts from August 24

The Motorola Edge 20 and Edge 20 Fusion had just recently been announced for the Indian market. While the devices were set to launch soon, it seems that the company had to delay the sales date for the Edge 20 due to certain ‘unforeseen’ reasons.

Motorola

For those unaware, the Edge 20 was set to launch on 24th August 2021 while the Edge 20 Fusion was set to go on sale on August 27. However, the company has now delayed the launch for the former with pre orders now beginning from August 24 rather than its first sale. Furthermore, it is currently unknown when the American smartphone maker will officially start selling the new Edge 20 in the region.

Apparently, the Edge 20’s sale has been indefinitely delayed, although, the Edge 20 Fusion will still launch on August 27. This handset will be available in the country through Flipkart and other major retail stores. The company stated that “We are glad to see the overwhelming response that we have received from media and consumers for both our recently launched Edge 20 series products. However, due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to defer the sale date for Edge 20, which we will announce shortly.”

Motorola Edge 20 vs OnePlus Nord 20 featured

Notably, we had recently done a comparison between the Motorola Edge 20 and the OnePlus Nord 2 regarding which smartphone you should buy. While the latter had launched back in July, the Edge 20 was expected to launch a month after and compete with the Nord 2 since the Edge 20 arrives with a price tag similar to the Nord 2, which is 29,999 INR (roughly 404 US Dollars). Although the Edge 20 brings various features that makes it quite competitive at this price point, the device has yet to launch in the region.

India’s smartphone market projected to reach a record 173 million shipments this year

The latest India Handset Quarterly Outlook by Counterpoint Research shows some impressive numbers for the market. The results point to an overall strong outlook for the Indian market, with 5G, feature phones conversion to smartphones, and affordability driving the massive growth.Best Smartphones Camera 2021 featured OPPO Xiaomi OnePlus Vivo Samsung

The Indian smartphone market is in a resurgent mood after a slight dip in 2020, occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic. In the first half of the year, overall smartphone shipments rose to a record 100 million units, while the market share of 5G smartphones grew from 3% in 2020 to 19% by mid-2021. This tremendous growth has led Counterpoint Research to forecast that the market will get to the 173 million units mark by the year’s end.

India with a population of 1.39 billion, is a huge trove of untapped potentials. The 320 million feature phone market in the subcontinent is also up for grabs, as the $75 Jio Phone Next could be a game-changer to drive the migration from feature phone to smartphone by users. As India continues to expand its 5G infrastructure, the demand for affordable 5G smartphones has also been on the increase. Average prices of 5G phones have seen a 40% decline, and the current price of the cheapest 5G smartphone is INR 15,000 ($200). A recent survey also indicated that about 21% of consumers preferred 5G.

The Indian smartphone market has enjoyed a steady growth in the last five years, and the outlook for the next five years remains very bright. After China, the Indian smartphone market is the largest in the world.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE WiFi variant set to launch in India soon

Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab S7 FE in India in June. The tablet only comes in a cellular variant in the country. Two months later, Amazon now teases the arrival of the WiFi-only Galaxy Tab S7 FE in the region.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE Featured A

According to a landing page on Amazon (via SamMobile), the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE (WiFi) will come with an S Pen in the box, just like the LTE cellular model released earlier. Apart from that, the page also highlights some of the key features of this product, which are identical to those of the cellular version.

Earlier this month, Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab S7 FE (WiFi) in the US with a different SoC, Snapdragon 778G to be precise. For those unaware, the cellular variant that’s sold in India, as well as other regions, has a Snapdragon 750G chipset.

Due to the global semiconductor shortage, the Galaxy Tab S7 FE (WiFi) launch in India could also have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G SoC. If that’s the case, then this upcoming model will be powerful than the already available LTE version.

Further, since WiFi variants are usually cheaper than the cellular models, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE (WiFi) for India could be priced below the starting price (₹46,999) of the LTE variant.

Unfortunately, it’s not known when this tablet will be available for purchase in India. The Amazon teaser page merely says ‘Coming Soon’ with a ‘Notify Me’ button.

POCO M2, Redmi 9 Prime get Android 11-based MIUI 12.5 update in India

At the end of July, Xiaomi started rolling out the MIUI 12.5 update in China. This update is now finally available for Indian versions of this handset called Redmi 9 Prime and POCO M2. Since neither of them got Android 11 like their international counterparts, the new system update also brings last year’s Android for them.

The Redmi 9 Prime sold in India is a rebranded Redmi 9 available elsewhere. On the other hand, the POCO M2 is also basically a Redmi 9 in different colors. Hence, the two smartphones run near identical software and are receiving the latest update together.

The Android 11-based MIUI 12.5 update for the POCO M2 arrives with build number V12.5.1.0.RJRINXM. Whereas, the same update bears build number V12.5.1.0.RJCINXM for the Redmi 9 Prime. Both the builds also come with August 2021 security patches.

The latest software builds for these two handsets are being rolled out in batches. Therefore, they might reach some units earlier than others. In simpler words, the update is not available for every user at the moment. However, it should reach all users in the coming days.

Android 11 is the first-ever major Android update for the POCO M2 and the Redmi 9 Prime. We don’t think that these phones will be updated to Android 12. But on the bright side, they could receive MIUI 13 in the future.

Patent reveals Future Huawei Mate series might feature an Arc display with in-screen camera

A new Huawei patent has just been spotted, which might be for the next gen flagship Mate 50 smartphone. The patented device sports an ‘Arc screen’ with an under display selfie camera.

Huawei

According to the LetsGoDigital report, the Chinese tech giant had filed a new patent with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office). Looking at the patent, the smartphone features a curved display that covers the entire front side of the device along with both of its sides. Notably, the Mate 40 Pro last year featured an 88 degree edge to edge display with side touch functionality. Now, it seems that the company might be working on further iterating on this display technology.

As per the patent, the new futuristic smartphone sports an ‘Arc Display,’ which is its most highlighting feature. Furthermore, the screen also curves and reaches till the rear side of the device while the sides offer various touch based functionality as well since there are no side buttons. These functions include the volume rockers along with message notifications that pop up on the side display. Although some of these features are already present in existing Huawei smartphones, the company places an emphasis on the side display functions even more and would likely include new features as well.

Huawei

Interestingly, Technizo Concept also made a render based on this patent, which showcases the device in a 3D model. A major aspect of the device is that there is no selfie camera visible on the front, which implies that the brand is likely working on offering an under display camera solution. Keep in mind that this is still just a patent and we have no way of knowing whether this is actually the Mate 50 or just the company’s attempt at covering all bases. So stay tuned for more updates.

Motorola Moto G50 (5G) codenamed Saipan appears on GeekBench

If there is one thing about Motorola and its naming convention, it is confusing. In March this year, the company announced the Moto G50 5G which bears the codename “Ibiza”. Right now, another smartphone dubbed Moto G50 (5G) codenamed “Saipan” is reportedly in the works. The smartphone has been spotted on the database of benchmarking outfit GeekBench. Moto G50 5G

Earlier last week renders of the upcoming G50 (5G) codenamed Saipan had leaked revealing the entire design. The GeekBench appearance gives us an idea of some of the key specifications. According to GeekBench, the Moto G50 5G (Saipan) will run on Android 11 OS and will have 4GB of RAM. We expect other RAM options to be available. Realme C21Y powered by Unisoc T610 SoC launched in India; price starts at ₹8,999 ($121)

As expected, Realme has today launched its latest entry-level smartphone under its C-series for the Indian market, dubbed Realme C21Y. The phone was first launched in Vietnam last month.

Under the hood, the device is powered by a Unisoc T610 octa-core processor which is not something that you usually get in the Indian market. However, Unisoc has partnered with brands like Micromax, Realme, and Motorola to bring devices powered by its processors in the Indian market, so expect more Unisoc-powered phones in the market.

This processor isn’t a major upgrade compared to the MediaTek Helio G35 packed in the Realme C21 but it’s a bit more powerful. The device comes packed with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. There’s also a microSD card slot that allows you to further expand the storage capacity.

In the camera department, you get a triple-camera setup on the back consisting of a 13-megapixel primary sensor, a 2-megapixel monochrome sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro lens. On the front side, there’s a 5-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

Connectiivty-wise, it comes with the usual set of features, including 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 5, GPS/AGPS/GLONASS/, and MicroUSB. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack. The device also has a fingerprint sensor on the back panel for added security.

The smartphone is running the Android 11 operating system with the Realme UI custom user interface on top. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and is claimed by the company to offer all-day usage with a single charge.

The Realme C21Y comes in two color options in the Indian market — Cross Black and Cross Blue. The 3GB RAM with 32GB storage model is priced at ₹8,999 (~$121) while the 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage model costs ₹9,999, about $135. The phone will be available for purchase through Realme.com, Flipkart, and Offline Stores across the country starting from 30th August.
