Fisherman hooks an iPhone lost in a river over a year ago, tracks down owner

The iPhone is an iconic and very versatile device from Apple. There are so many human-angle stories relating to this very powerful smartphone. Apple continues to refine the iPhone, bringing more features that add to the power and durability of the iPhone. One of the beautiful features of new iPhones is the Magsafe, which has now gotten added functionality with the added power pack.Apple iPhone

There has been a growing number of stories of how some iPhone users recovered their phones after days or weeks of losing the device. This has literally given people the impetus to fish for iPhones using the Magsafe. A South Carolina man, Jason Robinson of Horry County, found an iPhone while fishing a week ago in the Waccamaw River, local reports say. Robinson who is a fisherman went fishing on Sunday, July 18, and got the catch of the iPhone after a few fishes were caught. In his narrative, Robinson said he felt a strong grip on the line when the line obviously got secured by the Magsafe of the iPhone.

Robinson proceeded to seek a way of identifying the owner of the submerged iPhone, which he just fished from the river. Fortunately, he saw a photograph of a man and a woman attached to the iPhone case. He cleaned the picture and posted it on his Facebook page. Interestingly, within minutes he found the woman in the photograph. Subsequently, the iPhone was handed to Riley Johnson’s woman, whose husband Trinidy was also in the photo. Riley Johnson stated that the iPhone was lost about a year ago over Thanksgiving. Indeed, Robinson did not doubt that he had to do the correct thing by trying to reach out to the owners of the iPhone. He was never going to put the device to his personal use. It is not known what is the state of the rescued iPhone after one year of being underwater. However, Apple iPhones have been known to come back to life even after long contact with water.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 official case render reveals support for S Pen

The official case render of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 has just surfaced online and has revealed that the new foldable smartphone will indeed have support for the S Pen.

Samsung

The case render were first shared by 91Mobiles, which confirms all the previous rumors and reports of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 featuring S Pen support. Looking at this case render, we can see that the South Korean tech giant is planning on making a case that will have a slot to store the stylus. Although, the company has yet to officially confirm the support for the S Pen for the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the case render has all but confirmed it.

Samsung

Notably, the case render also reveals  the design of the S Pen case for the smartphone. The render appears similar to the folio cases for other smartphones with an area dedicated to house the S Pen. The case would cover the rear side of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and will extending towards the front with a flip open cover to also protect the external display as well. Interestingly, the highlighting aspect of the case render is S Pen holder.

Samsung

The S Pen is housed in a region that is directly over the hinge mechanism of the Galaxy Z Fold 3. In other words, the S Pen holder also protects the hinge of the smartphone. Furthermore, the holder also appears to be made from a rigid material with a smooth finish that would make it easier for users to remove or put back the stylus into the case. Although, this might make the device seem bulkier than it actually is.

Apple places order for over 100 million A15 Bionic Chips from TSMC: Rumor

Apple has apparently placed a massive order of more than 100 million A15 Bionic chips with TSMC. Through this, the company might be working on eliminating any issues with supply and components for its upcoming iPhone 13 lineup.

Apple

According to new rumors (Via WccFTech), the Cupertino based giant is expecting to see high demands for its 2021 iPhone series and has, thus, asked suppliers to raise production by 20 percent compared to the previous generation iPhone 12. The suppliers include the world’s largest contract chipmaker, TSMC, who will be supplying the iPhone maker with a whopping 100 million units of its custom chipset, as per the recent rumors.

The company will also reportedly be keeping an extra stock of the latest chipset for any upcoming products. Previous reports had also claimed that the A15 Bionic will power the next iPhone SE as well.

Huawei

The Chinese tech giant shared this news on its official Weibo account, revealing the launch date. According to Yu Chengdong, CEO of Consumer BG at Huawei, the new Smart Screen V 75 Super will feature 46,080 SuperMini LEDs. This will enable it to offer more realistic images with accurate details along with the ability to fine tune as well. For sound, the upcoming TV will offer a 20 unit Dewar theater level sound field.

Unfortunately, the company has only announce the launch date as of right now and finer details regarding this TV is still unknown. For those unaware, Mini LED brings various improvements and benefits over conventional LCD panels.

Huawei

This includes offering higher brightness, with a wider color gamut and higher contrasts. Furthermore, it also consumes lesser power among other benefits. Notably, the July 29 launch date is the same day in which the brand will be launching its latest flagship series, the Huawei P50 lineup. So stay tuned for more updates.

Face ID to arrive in Apple Macs in a “couple of years”: Gurman

Apple might just be planning on bringing Face ID system to the Mac. Known Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman believes that Face ID will be available in Macs within a “couple of years.”

Apple

Gurman shared this news on the latest edition of his Power On newsletter. In this, he stated that the Cupertino based giant’s goal is to have all of its products eventually support Face ID. In other words, even low end iPhone models like the iPhone SE and iPad Air that currently feature Touch ID will soon arrive with facial recognition technology in the near future. Gurman added that Touch ID is still a key factor in its low end products since it is a cheaper alternative than Face ID.

However, this might be changing in a few years. He added that “I expect all iPhones and iPads to transition to Face ID,” also stating that “Eventually, a camera embedded in the screen would help differentiate Apple’s pricier devices by eliminating the notch at the top. The facial recognition sensor gives Apple two central features: security and augmented reality.” In other words, the company might also be removing the notch on the iPhones during this shift.

Apple

The notchless iPhone could debut as early as 2023. Notably, Gurman had also previously reported that Apple’s recently launched redesigned iMacs were initially slated to feature Dace ID. But unfortunately, its implementation was delayed. Apparently, the primary reason for the delay was due to the Mac laptops screens, which are significantly thinner than the ones found in iPhones and iPads. This would make it harder for the brand to fit in key components like depth sensors for Face ID.

Apple iPhone 13 series to reportedly come with 25W fast charging support

Android flagship smartphones have been focusing on fast charging technology for the past few years and the technology has advanced so much that some brands are now set to offer more than 100W fast charging support on their premium phones.

Technology giant Apple, despite being one of the leading smartphone makers, has been lacking when it comes to offering new technologies and trendy features on its devices. It was the late entrant in supporting 5G connectivity on its device and still lacks way behind other major smartphone makers when it comes to fast charging technology.

Apple iPhone 13 Pro Render Colors
Apple iPhone 13 Pro Render

However, it seems that the Cupertino-based tech giant plans to increase the charging speed for the coming iPhone lineup. As per the report coming from MyDrivers, the iPhone 13 lineup could have support for 25W fast charging.

While 25W fast charging is still no match compared to the 65W fast charging support offered by several Android smartphone manufacturers, it is better than the 20W charging that the current iPhone 12 series offers.

If the reports are to be believed, then the upcoming Apple iPhone 13 series will come powered by the new Apple A15 Bionic processor with six-core design. This time, the company is expected to offer a 1TB storage model as well, doubling the storage space in the top-end option which currently maxes out at 512GB.

The phones are expected to come with more advanced displays, improved cameras, and a smaller notch compared to the current model. We previously reported about two new color options for the upcoming phones — Sunset Gold and Rose Gold. We expect to know more about the phones in the coming weeks and months as the launch date nears.

Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Go advert shows LTE version will have a touchscreen

The Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Go is now available for purchase for $299. That price gets you the base model with Wi-Fi 6 and 32GB of storage. Samsung confirmed that an LTE version will be available soon but it appears LTE connectivity won’t be the only major difference.

Samsung has released a video advert for the Galaxy Chromebook Go, and while the title of the video doesn’t say, it is specifically for the LTE version. We noticed that the ad reveals one important detail, actually a feature the standard WI-Fi model doesn’t have.

At the 0:40 second mark of the video, we see the boy interact with the display via touch input which means the device has a touchscreen. This feature is not available on the Wi-Fi version and comes as a surprise as the official spec page doesn’t mention a touchscreen is available on select models.

With the addition of a touchscreen, the LTE version of the Galaxy Chromebook Go may cost significantly more. The notebook is also expected to be available with 8GB of RAM and in 64GB and 128GB storage options. With these specs, the highest-specced variant of the Galaxy Chromebook Go will definitely cross the $400 mark. If you decide to pick up a USI stylus, then you may be spending as much as $450.

The Galaxy Chromebook Go has a 14-inch 1366 x 768 TFT display. It is powered by an Intel Celeron N4500 processor and packs a 42.3Wh battery that should provide up to 12 hours of usage on a single charge. It has Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and a nano-SIM slot for the LTE version. There are two USB-C ports, a single USB A (3.2) port, and a mic/headphone combo jack. Samsung ships it with a 45W USB-C power brick.

We still don’t know when the LTE version will be available but once it is available for purchase, we will be sure to let you know.

Further, it has the HDR10+ certification improving the quality on streaming platforms. Despite the POCO F3 GT has a superior display, Realme GT is all but disappointing. The phone has an AMOLED display as well, with a 120 Hz refresh rate. But unfortunately, it has an inferior color accuracy. On the other hand, it has an in-display fingerprint reader, while the fingerprint scanner is side-mounted on the POCO F3 GT.

Specs & Software

The best hardware department belongs to the Realme GT: it is fueled by the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal UFS 3.1 storage. With the POCO F3 GT, you get an inferior but still amazing MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset, as well as a max of 8 GB of RAM. So, not only the SoC is inferior, but you also get a lower quantity of RAM: there is no doubt about the fact that Realme GT is more powerful. The phones run Android 11 out of the box.

Camera

These phones are flagship killers but not camera phones. Their camera setups are very similar and they are midrange-class. POCO F3 GT and Realme GT are equipped with a 64 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultrawide sensor, and a 2 MP macro camera, as well as a 16 MP front camera. The photo quality is more or less at the same level. If you need a camera phone, you’d better focus on something else because these phones are not what you are looking for.

Battery

An important advantage of the POCO F3 GT over the Realme GT is the battery. The phone packs a bigger 5065 mAh battery, while the Realme GT has just 4500 mAh. This should allow the POCO F3 GT to last more on a single charge, even though we had no chance to test the battery life as it just went official. The POCO F3 GT supports 67W fast charging, while its rival has 65W fast charging, but it charges faster because its battery is smaller. None of these devices support wireless charging.

Price

The Realme GT carries a €399/$470 starting price tag in the global market. The POCO F3 GT is not sold globally and it launched just in India with a starting price of about €310/$365 at the actual change. Overall, the Realme GT offers a superior hardware department and a better design, but the POCO F3 GT has a bigger battery, a better display, and a physical trigger which are very useful for gamers. Which one would you pick?

Garmin Smart Glide reduces a pilot’s workload during engine shutdown

In-flight engine failure can occur due to several factors, and it becomes an emergency as the pilots struggle to bring the aircraft safely to land. With such an increased workload for the pilots, committing errors could be heightened, and this may prove fatal.Garmin Smart Glide

With the raft of autonomous driving and flying applications currently in the tech space, Garmin International has announced its Smart Glide flight safety tool to help pilots effectively respond to emergencies resulting from an engine failure.

The Garmin Smart Glide will be available from August 2021 on the GTN Xi series navigators. It will be available as a software upgrade for free but the Smart Glide activation button sells for $129.

The Garmin Smart Glide will reduce the pilot’s emergency workload by automatically engaging the autopilot and steering the aircraft toward the nearest airport.

In the event of an engine failure, the pilot is faced with several decisions and precise calculations to ensure the safety of the passengers and crew. These tasks include putting the aircraft on the correct glide angle, setting the autopilot, trying to restart the engine, looking for the nearest airport, and sending off a Mayday message, while also keeping a calm mien.

The Garmin Smart Glide works with other navigational technologies to seamlessly and efficiently take over some of the emergency tasks both automatically and manually.Garmin Smart Glide

The device uses all the necessary details to set the correct glide angle and speed while also interfacing with Flight Control and providing important details to the pilot. In the situation where there is no airport within range, the Smart Glide notifies the pilot and continues searching. It also helps the pilot to switch the transponder to transmit the 7700 emergency code quickly.

The Garmin Smart Glide tool is just one of the fast-expanding array of autonomous flight tools from the stable of Garmin.
