Windows 11 is already running on about 1% of PCs: Report

A new report has revealed that Microsoft’s latest version of Windows has already been installed in a number of PCs. As per the survey, the Windows 11 platform is currently running on about 1 percent of PCs.

Windows 11

The news arrives from AdDuplex, who shared the information is its latest Windows usage report that now also includes Windows 11. Furthermore, the data is based on information collected from about 5,000 applications that use AdDuplex SDK version 2 or higher. It was also collected on 26th July 2021, with the company noting that there were a total of 60,000 PCs that were surveyed.

At the moment, the latest Windows operating system version is being run on 0.9 percent of the PCs that were surveyed by AdDuplex. The report also added that there are still 0.2 percent of systems running the Insider version of Windows 10 OS, which could possibly be the 21H2 build. The figure is really small due to the very limited availability of the 21H2 build. The only way to be in on this version is to be kicked off of the Beta channel for not meeting Windows 11 system requirements. Meaning, you can’t even choose to get this version.

Windows 11

AdDuplex also noted regarding on how quickly newer versions of Windows was being installed. The last Windows usage report arrived back in April and had found that the Windows 10 version 2004 was still the most popular version of the operating system. Notably, the system requirements have also been raised significantly with Windows 11. Now, fewer PCs will be able to upgrade to the latest version.

Apple patents under display camera tech for Touch ID and Face ID

Apple has been rumored to be planning on launching the iPhone 14 with a full screen front body, with no notches. Now, the company has just been awarded a new patent for under display cameras for Touch ID and Face ID.

Apple

The Cupertino based giant had filed the patent with the USPTO, which was regarding camera sensors being embedded under the display. The patent also describes that these sensors will be used for biometric authetication systems, namely Touch ID and Face ID. Apple stated that the current iPhone design has the image sensors be placed next to the display with the notch. But, future generations will arrive with these cameras being housed underneath the display.

The iPhone maker added that this system can be used for both Face ID and Touch ID. Although, employing both security systems together might please more customers. Notably, we had recently also reported on the company reportedly planning on bringing Face ID to its Macs as well within the next couple of years. The earlier iterations of the under screen solution had faced a lot of issues like degraded quality, however, improved versions have made it to the commercial market in certain smartphones.

Apple

Keep in mind that this is still just a patent and we have no way of confirming if the brand is actually working on such a system or is simply covering all bases. If it is being developed, we can expect it to make its way to multiple Apple products like MacBooks and iPads, apart from just the iPhones.
