According to a report by Moneycontrol, the OPPO Reno smartphone for India is just around the corner. According to the publication’s sources, the Chinese handset maker is expected to launch the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G in mid-July.

The upcoming OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G will act as a successor to the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G from earlier this year. For those unaware, the latter phone debuted in India in January. Hence, the former device is hitting the region exactly six months later.

Unfortunately, it’s not known whether the device coming to India is the same as the model available in China. That’s because Chinese handset makers are known for releasing different devices with similar branding based on regions.

If the OPPO Reno6 Pro 5G for India is identical to the one launched in China, then we can expect features like a 6.55-inch FHD+ 90Hz curved AMOLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC, 64MP (wide) + 8MP (ultra-wide) + 2MP (macro) + 2MP (depth) quad-camera setup, 32MP selfie camera, ColorOS 11.3 based on Android 11, 4,500mAh battery, and 65W fast charging.

Qualcomm and other chipmakers place orders for TSMC’s new 6nm process

Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Unisoc have already placed orders with TSMC for their upcoming 5G mobile application processors. The orders are for the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s 6nm process.

Qualcomm Logo

According to a paywalled report from DigiTimes, the various known chip makers have placed orders with the world’s largest contract chip manufacturer for its 6nm process. The report arrives from industry sources close to the matter. Unfortunately, finer details regarding these orders are currently unknown at the moment. Although, we had previously reported on TSMC securing orders from Qualcomm for its new chips that are set to launch in the second half of this year.

These orders were apparently for TSMC’s 5nm and 6nm processes, as per a tipster, and were for the American mobile chip maker’s mid to high range mobile processors. Furthermore, the news also arrives amid the semiconductor shortage that has affected various industries across the globe. This includes the automobile, consumer electronics, and even the smartphone industry as well.

Qualcomm

In other words, the orders for 6nm process from Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Unisoc also implies that the fab makers are trying to make the most of the situation at hand with different options that are available at the moment. As of right now, TSMC is packed with orders for its advanced 5nm process, so it would make sense that firms would also place orders with other advanced process as well. Unfortunately, we have no way of confirming this news right now, so stay tuned for more as we will be providing updates when any notable information is available regarding this matter.

We are only halfway through 2021, however, Xiaomi has already released a bunch of smartphones. According to new findings, the second half of this year will be no different for the company. The Chinese handset maker may launch at least 13 new devices in H2 2021.

Xiaomi featured flagship family
Xiaomi Mi Series

Xiaomi smartphones run MIUI. In fact, the company’s mobile operating system was its product and not phone. Whenever the company is set to release new handsets, MIUI adds support for them.

Hence, the codenames and even certain specs of these unreleased devices leak via MIUI source code. That’s what has happened now.

As per the findings by Xaiomiui, the Chinese tech giant will be soon launching the following 13 new devices.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Android 12 update suggests an early launch: Report

While Google has already launched the Android 12 beta program, it would be a while till Samsung users get to experience the latest version of the OS. This is due to the company conducting its own beta program, but a new report suggests that the roll out for the update might be earlier than expected.

The Android 12 update would arrive along with the South Korean tech giant’s One UI 4.0. This would also mark a major upgrade for the company’s custom Android skin. Earlier this week, SamMobile reported that the brand is already began working on the Android 12 update for the Galaxy S21 series. Notably, this means that the work on the update began about a month earlier than the Android 11 update for the Galaxy S20 lineup last year.

Notably, a revamp of the brand’s custom skin only arrives with a major upgrade of the One UI. The One UI 2.0 and 3.0 brought in major changes, while minor changes is set to arrive with the Android 11 based One UI 3.5 for foldable smartphones in August 2021. So, we can expect the One UI 4.0 to bring some major changes as well. While the beta program might arrive earlier than last year, it would still only go live around October of this year. Meanwhile, the update could likely be released for the public by the end of this year, in December, or possibly early next year.

Here are the system requirements for the Microsoft Windows 11 Update

Microsoft has just recently unveiled its latest version of Windows OS. The new operating system is set to roll out later this year, and here are the system requirements for the Windows 11 update.

Microsoft

According to official notes from the American tech giant, a PC would need a processor that has at least two or more cores that have a clock speed of 1GHz or higher. Furthermore, the system requirements would also require at least 4GB of RAM or more, along with a minimum of 64GB of storage. A notable requirement to be eligible for the Windows 11 update is the need for a TPM security version of TPM 1.2 or higher and SecureBootCapable support.

In other words, this also implies that the users’ PC that run on Intel‘s sixth and seventh generation processors are not eligible for the new update. On the other hand, AMD based PCs that are powered by A series and FX series are not supported. Similarly, Team Red’s Ryzen 1000 series and most Ryzen 2000 series of chips will also not run Windows 11 OS. Additionally, Windows 11 will require users’ setup to have at least a 9 inch display output with a 720p resolution.

Microsoft

The system will also be required to support DirectX 12 graphics or WDDM2.x. These system requirements imply that certain laptops just a couple of years old would not be able to run Windows 11. Although, desktop PC owners have the chance to upgrade certain components like the CPU to be eligible for the update. Note that some aspects like the TPM version may need to be first activated from your system’s BIOS settings. This process makes it quite troublesome for the average user.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE delayed until October, could be limited to only 2 regions

Samsung is said to hold its next Galaxy Unpacked event on August 3. The company is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold3, Galaxy Z Flip3, Galaxy Watch4, and the Galaxy Watch Active4 at this conference. These devices are said to be followed by the Galaxy S21 FE. According to a new report, the successor to the popular Galaxy S20 FE will not only be delayed but may also not launch in most markets.

A few days back, news broke out that the GalaxyS21 FE will be delayed by a month. The handset was supposed to debut alongside the new foldables and smartwatches in August. However, due to supply chain issues, it was said to launch a month later in September.

Now, a new report by Financial News (via SamMobile) sheds more info on this situation. A Samsung Electronics official partner confirms that the Galaxy S21 FE was indeed set to debut in August powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset. But now, the phone may be delayed until October.

That’s not all, it may only release in the US and Europe. In other words, the smartphone may not even launch in the company’s home country South Korea.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE | Source: Evan Blass

The primary reason for the delay is unsurprisingly the shortage of Snapdragon 888 chips. Even the current stipulated October schedule is not guaranteed as the supply and demand of semiconductors is that serious. The units for the US and Europe could also be lowered than previously planned.

As per earlier reports, the Galaxy S21 FE will feature a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage, 12MP triple camera setup, 32MP selfie camera, One UI 3.1.1 based on Android 11, 4,500mAh battery, 25W fast wired charging, 15W fast wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.

Nearly half of all smartphones sold in 2022 will have OLED display

A new report has revealed that nearly half of all smartphones that will be sold in 2022 will feature an OLED panel. This marks the growing popularity of the organic light emitting diode display technology in the smartphone market.

OLED
Apple iPhone 12 series features OLEDs

According to a TrendForce report, 39.8 percent of all smartphones sold this year feature OLED panels. On the other hand, 45 percent of total handset sold next year are expected to sport this type of display. The research analytics based firm added that major smartphone makers like Apple and Samsung‘s wider adoption of the AMOLED and OLED display technology is one of the primary reasons for the jump in market share of the OLED equipped devices.

Although, the display driver IC supply for OLED panels is currently unable to keep up with the high demand at the moment. The report added that these chipsets are relatively larger than other chips, so fewer numbers are able to be made per wafer. Most display drivers use 40 nanometer to 28 nanometer processes for the IC. As of right now, only a few foundries like TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited), Samsung Electronics, UMC, and GlobalFoundries can manufacture display driver ICs for OLEDs.

OLED

However, out of these chip making giants, only TSMC, Samsung, and UMC are the ones who were able to secure sufficient wafers to manufacture the display drivers. While other foundries are currently working on developing necessary process technology, these have have to finalize to begin mass production. Another notable factor is that different panel makers require different specifications for their display driver ICs.

Apple iPhone 13 to have strong shipments due to Huawei ban, predicts Ming-Chi Kuo

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has shared a note with investors in which he predicts strong iPhone 13 shipments which are slated to get released in September this year. Apart from new features, the primary reason for increased sales of the upcoming iPhone models is being attributed to the Huawei ban.

Kuo believes that Apple will have stronger sales for iPhone not only in 2021 but also in the next year as well, i.e. 2022. He expects the shipments to reach 230-240 million to 250-260 million units in 2021 and 2022 respectively. In the year 2020, the shipments for the brand reached had reached 195 million.

iPhone 12

Huawei’s global smartphone market share has been declining ever since the company has been put on Entity List by the United States, effectively banning the company in the country. It has also made it difficult for the Chinese giant to do business in the smartphone and network equipment business. The company had a market share of 17 percent in Q1 2020, which dropped to just 4 percent in Q1 2021.

For the second half of 2021, Kuo predicts that the iPhone will gain in the high-end market share due to “specifications upgrade” and the “US ban on Huawei.” Apple is expected to announce four new iPhone models this year with a smaller notch, upgraded camera, 120HZ refresh rate, and a new A15 processor.

Kuo estimates that the new 2H21 iPhone shipments will reach up to 88 million units vs. 75 million units in 2H20. He also adds that a new iPhone SE is still on track for next year.

The iPhone 13 lineup will include four models, similar to the strategy used by Apple last year for the iPhone 12 series. The leaks related to the phone indicate that the cameras on the regular models will have a slightly new design while the Pro models will exclusively maintain the LiDAR Scanner.
