Google is testing a new feature that warns users when a search result is unreliable

Search engine giant Google is taking steps to further safeguard the search engine users from utilizing search results that may be unreliable or inherently false. In the age of fake news, the company recently began a fact-checking mechanism for ascertaining the authenticity of search results. Fact-checking will further enhance the quality of information accessed via the search engine.Google Search

However, the fact-checking mechanism is not effective when swamped with breaking news, making it difficult to fact-check content and establish which is authentic. Under such a scenario when Google cannot guarantee the authenticity of a search item, it has been reported that Google will subsequently warn the user. An explanation will then follow the warning, stating that the topic you are searching for is new. An indication is provided that the fact-checking algorithm takes time to establish the reliability of sources.

Like social media platforms Facebook and  Twitter, Google is putting mechanisms in the form of deep learning algorithms to curb the spread of fake news under its platform. In addition, many social media platforms are increasingly trying to prevent their platform from being used as an avenue for propagating fake and sometimes incendiary news.

For the instances where it cannot quickly fact-check the search result, users are prompted that the search results they are seeing are fast evolving. Google has already confirmed it started the testing just a week ago. The message is currently popping up in very few searches, mainly about developing stories and trending topics.

Google is the largest search engine company in the world and hopes the unveiling of this new feature will further firm up the company’s prospects. The company has continued to enhance the quality of its search with its search literacy advocacy. It also recently added the About button aimed at improving the quality of the search.

Redmi Note 10T gets a quiet launch in Russia but you should skip it

How many names can a phone go by? For the Redmi Note 10T, the answer is three. The new smartphone is the same device sold as the Redmi Note 10 5G in Europe and as the POCO M3 Pro in other markets including Russia!

Redmi Note 10T featured

Redmi Note 10T Specs

The Redmi Note 10T has a 6.5-inch FHD+ Dot Display with a 2400 x 1080 resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate with AdaptiveSync technology. The centered punch hole is home to an 8MP camera that can take portrait selfies, record in FHD, and also has a timelapse mode.

There is a Dimensity 700 processor under the hood. It is a 5G chipset but there is no support for 5G. The spec sheet says that the phone comes in three configurations – 4GB RAM + 64GB, 4GB RAM + 128GB, and 6GB RAM + 128GB. The RAM is LPDDR4X and the storage is UFS 2.2.

Redmi Note 10T cameras

For the rear cameras, you get a 48MP f/1.79 main camera, a 2MP f/2.4 macro camera, and a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor. The camera can record in FHD at 30fps and also in HD slow motion at 120fps. There is also a macro video mode.

The Redmi Note 10T comes with a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and also has support for AI Face Unlock. It has got NFC, an IR blaster, and an earphone jack too. It runs MIUI 12 based on Android 11 out of the box, packs a 5000mAh battery, and has support for 18W fast charging.

Redmi Note 10T Price and Availability

The Redmi Note 10T is currently available only in one configuration as of the time of writing, and that is the 4GB RAM + 128GB version. It can be purchased in Green Glow, Blue Midnight, Silver Chrome, or Graphite Gray for ₽21,990 (~$305). However, the price has been discounted to ₽19,990 (~$277).

POCO M3 Pro

Regardless of the discount, we don’t recommend that you buy it. Why? This is because Xiaomi Russia is selling the 6GB RAM + 128GB version of the POCO M3 Pro (no 5G), which is the Redmi Note 10T with a slightly different design and POCO branding, for ₽16,990 (~$235)!!! Both phones are available on the Xiaomi Russia website.

MWC (Mobile World Congress) Barcelona begins next week and it is expected that there will be several announcements. While some manufacturers have already made some early announcements, there is still a lot to look forward to. Here is what to expect next week in tech:

Samsung MWC 2021

Samsung MWC Virtual Event – June 28

Samsung has scheduled June 28 as the date for its virtual event. There most likely won’t be a product announcement but Samsung will talk about the Galaxy ecosystem and new developments.

Lenovo MWC Event – June 28

Lenovo also has an event on June 28 and it plans to discuss foldable devices according to the description on the MWC website. Maybe we will hear or even see what Lenovo has planned for this new category of devices. Just like Samsung’s own, this too will be a virtual event

Xiaomi Mi TV 6 dual cameras

Xiaomi Mi TV 6 – June 28

Xiaomi has no plans to attend MWC but it has scheduled a product launch on the first day of the tech event. The launch is for the Mi TV 6, its latest flagship TV. The smart TV packs some pretty impressive features such as dual 48MP cameras and a 100W in-built speaker.

DIZO

DIZO and Realme Event – July 1

DIZO and Realme plan to unveil a handful of products on July 1. Realme, on the other hand, also has a handful of lifestyle products it has planned for release, some of which have already been listed on its website.

Vivo trademarks NEX Fold, NEX Slide, and NEX Roll for its foldable and rollable devices

Earlier this week, we reported that Honor has applied for trademarks for “Honor Magic Fold” and “Honor Magic Flip”, most likely names for its upcoming foldable devices. Now, it is the turn of Vivo as recent trademark filings hint at the launch of its foldable and rollable devices.

The Chinese manufacturer has applied for trademarks for “NEX Fold”, “Nex Slide”, and “NEX Roll” as spotted by MyFixGuide. Based on the names, it is safe to presume that these are foldable and rollable devices. The NEX Fold should have a similar form factor to the Galaxy Z Fold 2 or Mi MIX Fold while the NEX Slide and NEX Roll should have extendable displays.

Vivo NEX Fold

It is also worth noting that all of these devices are under the NEX line of Vivo phones which is no surprise considering the NEX line doubles as Vivo’s experimental line of smartphones much like Xiaomi’s MIX series.

We do not the features of these devices and when to expect them to launch. A leak revealed Vivo’s product lineup for the second half of the year but it didn’t mention a foldable or rollable device. However, we won’t rule out the possibility of a concept or working prototype just like OPPO did last year with the OPPO X 2021.

Which of these devices are you excited for? Do let us know in the comment box.

Microsoft updates PC Health Check App, will tell you why your PC doesn’t support Windows 11

Microsoft announced Windows 11 this week. The new version of Windows should be available as a free upgrade to users but not all PCs will support it. While there are requirements for the new version, you can simply install the PC Health Check App to know if your system will be supported.

Windows 11 PC Check

The PC Health Check app has now received an update that will tell you why your PC isn’t supported. This was not the case with the earlier version of the app that was available a few days ago. So if you already ran the app but didn’t get a reason for your PC not being supported, you should relaunch the app. It will notify you that there is an update for it. Once updated, run the compatibility check again. Users who are yet to download the app can download it here.

Some of the reasons you will get if your device is not supported include having less than 64GB of storage, having an unsupported processor, not supporting Secure Boot, and not having TPM 2.0 enabled.

Windows 11 hardware requirements:

  • A 64-bit processor with 1GHz or faster with 2 or more cores
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 64GB or more of storage
  • Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0
  • Graphics card compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver

Microsoft has also revealed that users running Windows in S Mode will have to switch out of S mode before upgrading. The compatibility page also says S mode is only available on the Home Edition of Windows 11.

Windows 11 is expected to begin rolling out later this year.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES Dual SIM slot, 5G Dual SIM slot, 5G Dual SIM slot, 5G

Design

My favorite design and the most attractive one is the Realme X7. Despite it is not built with premium materials, it almost looks like so. It is way thinner than its two rivals with a thickness of just 8.1 mm and it is even lightweight as it weighs just 175 grams. The Motorola Moto G 5G is very thick and heavy compared to other phones, so it is a less comfortable option when it comes to one-handed use and so. Realme Narzo 30 Pro sits in the middle: it is still pretty thick and heavy since it houses a big battery, but not excessively.

Display

Do you need a superior display? Choose the Realme X7 5G and you won’t regret it. The Realme X7 5G is the only one to come with an AMOLED display, so it is able to show brighter colors and deeper blacks. Further, it has an in-display fingerprint reader. The Realme Narzo 30 Pro 5G has an IPS panel but it is still very interesting, especially for gamers, because it has a 120 Hz refresh rate. Unfortunately, Motorola Moto G 5G lacks both a high refresh rate and an AMOLED panel, but it has HDR10 technology improving the image quality. However, it can not compete with the Realme X7 5G.

Specs & Software

The best devices in terms of hardware are Realme Narzo 30 Pro 5G and Realme X7 5G which pack a Dimensity 800U chipset, up to 8 GB of RAM, and up to 128 GB of UFS 2.1 native storage. The Snapdragon 750G found on the Motorola Moto G 5G is at the same level as the Dimensity 800U (even slightly better, in my opinion), but the phone offers up to 6 GB of RAM, and having 2 gigs more is definitely better. Unfortunately, all of these phones ship with Android 10 out of the box, but they will be updated to Android 11.

Camera

The most advanced cameras belong to the Realme X7 5G. It has a superior 64 MP main camera paired with an 8 MP ultrawide sensor, a 2 MP camera for macros, and a 2 MP dedicated depth sensor. Besides a better main camera, the Realme X7 5G also packs a better front camera with a 32 MP resolution.

Battery

Realme X7 5G wins everywhere except when it comes to the battery life: Motorola Moto G 5G and Realme Narzo 30 Pro 5G have bigger 5000 mAh batteries and they beat their higher-end rival. On the other hand, Realme X7 5G supports faster charging with a power of 65W.

Price

You can actually find Realme Narzo 30 Pro with an Rs. 15,999 / $215 starting price, Moto G 5G retails for Rs. 20,999 / $283, and Realme X7 5G costs Rs. 19,999 / $270. If we exclude the battery, Realme X7 5G is the best phone, while the Realme Narzo 30 Pro 5G has the highest value for money.

The Mi 11 Lite 4G was unveiled in late March with MIUI 12 based on Android 11. The phone is being gradually introduced in markets around the world. It launched in India this week.

Three months after its announcement, the ‘Global’ variant of the handset has started receiving the MIUI 12.5 update with build number V12.5.3.0.RKQMIXM. Unsurprisingly, the software build is in the ‘Stable Beta’ phase. In simpler words, the update is being pushed in batches.

On the other hand, the Mi 8 Lite is a fairly old device. It launched in 2018 with MIUI 9 based on Android 8.0 Oreo. So far, it has received MIUI 10, MIUI 11, and MIUI 12 updates, in addition to Android 9.0 Pie and Android 10.

Now, Xiaomi has started rolling out the MIUI 12.5 update for this phone. The update is currently live in China with build number V12.5.1.0.QDTCNXM. It is being seeded out in batches.

The latest system update for both these smartphones should reach the other regional variants in the coming days. Last but not least, this should be the last-ever major update for the Mi 8 Lite. It will not receive MIUI 13 update like the Mi 11 Lite 4G.

Ford-owned Spin launches its first self-produced S-100T e-scooter

Automaker Ford’s subsidiary Spin is making steady inroads into the micro-mobility segment with the launch of its first wholly produced e-scooter. The S-100T scooter bears the strong imprimatur of Ford’s design philosophy that embodies durability and safety.Spin S-100T e-scooter

With this new entry into the market, Ford hopes to attract new users into getting on of its versatile scooters, as the number of new users of micro-mobility vehicles keeps going up.

The Spin S-100T will make its debut in Sacramento, United States, by July. Up to 25 of the S-100T will be unveiled and deployed to join its existing fleet. Spin hopes to scale up production to a few thousand by 2022

The S-100T is the culmination of research and development by Spin’s in-house team since 2019. Spin’s previous models were produced in partnership with established producers like Segway-Ninebot and Okai. Durability has been a challenge for scooters as some degenerate rapidly in less than six months in some cases. Spin hopes to fill the gap in this regard with the strong S-100T.

Before being passed fit for the market, the S-100T underwent a comprehensive testing regimen, and it could last for up to three years. That’s twice the lifespan of its predecessor, the S-100, and several other common brands. Spin provided a description of how it arrived at the estimated lifespan by putting the device through extreme conditions for an extended period.Spin S-100T e-scooter

There has been a rise in the use of micro-mobility vehicles since 2020 when the coronavirus pandemic hit the world, and physical distancing became the norm. Spin hopes that its new entry will help to restore confidence in the market. Not much is known at this time about the main features of the S-100T, like the battery capacity, range, and so on.

Xiaomi debuted the Redmi Note 10 for ₹11,999 (4GB + 64GB) and ₹13,999 (6GB + 128GB) respectively. However, the company has quietly increased its price not one but three times.

In late April, the phone got its first price hike. Xiaomi increased the price of both variants by ₹500. Hence, the device retailed for ₹12,499 and ₹14,499 up until the last few days.

POCO neckband-style Bluetooth wireless earphones certified by India’s BIS

Xiaomi is known for a wide variety of products other than smartphones. The same can be said for its Redmi brand. However, the POCO brand still only sells smartphones.

Last year, POCO revealed plans to launch a pair of truly wireless earphones (aka TWS) called POCO POP Buds. But that product is yet to make its debut. But we know that it will be a rebadged version of the Redmi AirDots 3 Pro.

Now, as per BIS (via @i_hsay), POCO could also launch a pair of neckband-style earphones. The accessory is listed with model number LYXQEJ05WM, which is identical to that of the Mi Neckband Bluetooth Earphones Pro. In fact, these two products were certified on the same day (March 1).

If the POCO neckband earphones are the same as the Mi Neckband Bluetooth Earphones Pro, then we can expect features like 10mm drivers, Bluetooth 5.0 25dB ANC (Active Noise Cancellation), ENC (Environmental Noise Cancellation), IPX5 certification for splash resistance, 20-hour battery life, MicroUSB charging, and 36g weight.

The Mi-branded accessory comes in two colors (Black, Blue) priced at ₹ 1,799. We can expect the POCO version of these earphones to come in different colors, and maybe even with a cheaper price tag.

The Mi TV 6 series will be Xiaomi’s first smart TV with 100W Speakers!

Ahead of the June 28 launch of the Mi TV 6 series, Xiaomi has consistently been releasing promotional posters giving us an idea of what to expect on the premium smart TV. One of the spectacular features that the company teased recently is that the smart TV will come with a 48MP dual-camera setup.

Xiaomi has released yet another poster that reveals that the Mi TV 6 series will come with a powerful 100W speaker. While this isn’t the first smart Tv that you’ll find in the market packing a 100W speaker setup, this is the first time Xiaomi is mounting such a powerful speaker on its smart TV. With this setup, users will enjoy a powerful sound output without needing an external soundbar.

Before now, smart TVs usually have speakers of small size and subsequently low wattage. This is mostly due to the limited space available to fit in a speaker on a smart TV which manufacturers try to keep at its thinnest.

Xiaomi is also expected to release the Mi TV 6 Series Extreme Edition packing a premium QLED display that will be on par with Sony’s flagship TV. The Mi TV 6 series will also come with Wi-Fi 6 network connection, an HDMI 2.1 interface as well as AMD FreeSync Premium game display certification. The Mi TV 6 Extreme Edition’s display will also come with Dolby Vision IQ, IMAX Enhanced certifications.

OnePlus Nord CE 5G vs OPPO F19 Pro+: Specs Comparison

OnePlus released a device that is being called “the perfect mid-ranger” by a lot of people. It is the OnePlus Nord CE 5G, packing amazing specifications and a 5G-enabled chipset at a very modest price. But the mother company OPPO also came up with similar devices in this portfolio. Since OnePlus just merged with OPPO, now there is a lot of internal rivals and it is very hard to understand which one is the best, especially in the midrange segment. This comparison between Nord CE 5G and OPPO F19 Pro+ will tell you the differences between these devices and hopefully, let you find out which one is the best for you.

Design

Despite it is a sort of remake of the original Nord, OnePlus Nord CE 5G has a more optimized design than OPPO F19 Pro+. On the front side, it has narrower bezels making the panel more elegant. Further, thanks to the narrower bezels, the phone is more compact despite having the same display diagonal as its rival. With its rectangle-shaped camera module, OPPO F19 Pro+ looks more modern but its thicker bezels are a con. You can not see a fingerprint reader on both these phones because it is integrated into the display. The OPPO F19 Pro+ has a better build quality and it comes with the Gorilla Glass 5 protection, but I like the design of the Nord CE 5G more.

Display

OnePlus Nord CE 5G and OPPO F19 Pro+ are equipped with great AMOLED panels sporting a 6.43-inch diagonal and a Full HD+ resolution with 1080 x 2400 pixels, as well as an optical in-display fingerprint reader for authentication. As already mentioned OnePlus Nord CE 5G has narrower bezels, but its front panel is not better only due to its aesthetics. The Nord CE 5G also comes with a higher refresh rate than OPPO F19 Pro+: 90 Hz instead of 60 Hz. That is the main difference between the displays of these phones: the OnePlus handset can provide a smoother viewing experience.

Specs & Software

The most advanced hardware belongs to the OnePlus Nord CE 5G. When it comes to the CPU performance, there is no much difference between the Snapdragon 750G by MediaTek and the Dimensity 800U by Qualcomm: both are great midrange processors with 5G support. But with the OnePlus Nord CE 5G, you can get more RAM and more internal storage: the handset comes with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 2.1 native storage, while OPPO F19 Pro+ has just 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.1 storage. The phones run Android 11 out of the box, customized by OxygenOS and ColorOS, respectively.

Camera

Despite it has a lower amount of cameras, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G should be able to provide a greater photo quality. It has a superior 64 MP main camera paired with an 8 MP ultrawide sensor and a 2 MP camera for macros. With the OPPO F19 Pro+, you get a 48 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultrawide camera, and a pair of 2 MP sensors for macros and depth.

Battery

The OnePlus Nord CE 5G has a bigger battery with a capacity of 4500 mAh and it should provide a slightly longer battery life despite the OPPO F19 Pro+ has a chipset built with a better production process (7 nm vs 8 nm). On the other hand, the OPPO F19 Pro+ supports faster charging thanks to a power of 50W.

Price

The OnePlus Nord CE 5G has a starting price of Rs. 22,999 in India, while OPPO F19 Pro+ starts from Rs. 23,449. Unless you find a street price making the OPPO F19 Pro+ way cheaper, the OnePlus Nord CE 5G is a slightly better option due to its higher refresh rate, and great cameras. On the other hand, the 50W fast charging tech found on the OPPO F19 Pro+ is very comfortable and the overall differences are just marginal.

The WP12 Pro has larger storage and a better processor than its predecessor as you’d expect. As an early bird offer, OUKITEL is giving the WP12 Pro for just $99.99 till July 4. It is a decent price OUKITEL has attached. Moreover, the subscribers of the OUKITEL website will get a $2 discount code on 26th June. Striking features at a glance

Some of the striking features of the WP12 Pro include:

  • 4GB+64GB base variant (Other storage options include; 4GB+32GB and 4GB+64GB)
  • Powerful Octa-core Processor
  • Beefy 4000mAh battery
  • Latest Android 11 OS

Powered by MediaTek 6762D Chipset

Chipset is an important part of a smartphone as the rest of the other specs depend on the capability of the chipset. Fortunately, the WP12 Pro is powered by 12nm MediaTek 6762D, which is an Octa-Core processor based on 4 x ARM Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8Ghz. There’s an IMG PowerVR GE-class GPU, and the combo delivers a decent performance.

Another highlight of the WP12 is its 4000mAh battery. As per OUKITEL, it’s enough for 22 hours of phone calls, 11 hours of streaming, and 10 hours of gaming. Interestingly, WP12 Pro comes with the reverse charging feature which allows you to charge other devices.

Coming to the photography, on the rear, WP12 Pro features a 13MP SONY IMX135 5MP main sensor paired with an auxiliary sensor of unknown resolution. For selfies, it features a 5MP AI selfie camera. To make the photos look stunning, the device features some cool software trickeries and special modes such as HDR, night modes, beautify modes, and bokeh mode.

Tough and Strong Build

It’s incomplete without mentioning the build quality, especially when it is from OUKITEL. The WP12 Pro, although designed to be tough has its own charm to attract users. The display is made of Corning Gorilla Glass, so it won’t be easy to shatter the glass for an external agent or force.

Coming to the placement of the other hardware elements. A speaker and the front camera are embedded on the top bezel. While at the edges, the right side features all the usual buttons including the volume up and down buttons and the power button. Interestingly, a customizable button is present on the left side to do a number of things such as snapping quick pictures underwater. The top surface houses the 3.5mm headphone jack for your earpiece whereas the bottom features the USB-C port.

That being said, you can avail of the WP12 Pro for as low as $97, if subscribe to OUKITEL on June 26th via the official Oukitel Store.

Apple is going after prominent Chinese leakers of its products pre-launch

Apple has been the subject of several leaks in recent times, some involving essential trade secrets. The company has been pursuing an in-house cleaning process that has seen it secure convictions for some of its identified leak sources. A prominent leaker, Kang, stated that he received a strongly-worded warning letter from a legal firm on behalf of Apple, relating to leaked information traced to him concerning unreleased Apple products.

In a post on social media platform Weibo, Kang divulged the content of the letter from the US tech giant. Apple’s lawyers warned that leaking information about unreleased Apple products can seriously affect the company and give its competitors an unfair advantage by accessing company trade secrets. The letter also stated that customers are misled through such leaks, as what may be disclosed is unlikely to be accurate.

Kang has had a few leaks posted via his handle concerning Apple products. Some of the leaks were even couched in riddles, but it would seem that Apple’s tracing mechanism had identified him. Kang indeed has a long record of Apple leaks, including the iPhone 12 full lineup, MagSafe for iPhone, and several others. It has to be stated that most of the leaks were authentic, as subsequent events showed.

To reduce the incidence of embarrassing leaks, Apple had put in place some stringent in-house measures that were aimed at identifying and weeding out employees who divulge important info and data to unauthorized third parties. The legal direction is to add further bite to Apple’s pursuit of individuals who continue to expose it to its competitors and sometimes provide misleading information to the public.

The internal security measures in place seem to be holding firm concerning iOS 15 – at least for now, as no leak has come through concerning Apple’s in-development operating system.

Gogoro partners Foxconn to enable the release of its e-scooters globally

Mobility firm Gogoro has penned a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Foxconn to fast track the pursuit of Gogoro in making its smart e-scooters easily accessible globally beyond its current forte of Taiwan. One of the standout features of Gogoro’s e-scooters is their swappable battery setup that makes it possible to switch batteries of different units.

One of Gogoro’s battery swapping stations

The memorandum of understanding will enable both Gogoro and manufacturing powerhouse Foxconn to collaborate on vehicle design and manufacturing and accessories development and production. The agreement also covers technology development for the smart battery setup of Gogoro’s intended global e-scooters. In addition, the MOU will allow Gogoro to effectively pursue its expansion plans by designing, developing, and distributing the products that will come out of the Gogoro-Foxconn engagement.

Gogoro has seen rapid expansion from its home base of Taiwan amidst advanced plans to set shop in India and mainland China, thereby assessing the massive population of over two billion residents in the two countries. However, Gogoro has greater plans even beyond its present moves. It hopes to deploy its innovative battery-swapping scheme to other climes. The battery-swapping scheme has been a very successful program, as any Gogoro e-scooter user can just drive into a swapping station to get a fully charged battery replacement for their units, thus expanding the range capabilities and eliminating the time spent recharging.

No details of timelines and milestones in the MOU were disclosed at this time. Therefore, the fine details of the MOU are not yet available, and indeed there was no mention of the e-scooters as the item of collaboration. A move by Foxconn into the possible production of e-bikes could mean a huge diversification from its major mandate of producing electric vehicles. Subsequent development will reveal the direction of the collaboration.
