With its rival telecom operator Airtel beginning its trials for 5G networking in Gurgaon, Haryana, Reliance Jio has also started the field testing of 5G services in Mumbai, Maharashtra using indigenous technology.
According to a TechRadarreport, the Indian telecom giant had applied for conducting 5G trials in Gujarat, Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad. The report added that the company will apparently be using its proprietary technology for its 5G trials in Mumbai. However, Jio would be teaming up with Ericsson for Delhi trials, while its Pune trials will have it worth with Nokia. Similarly, the field testing for Gujarat will have the company join hands with Samsung as well.
Back in May 2021, the Indian Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had allowed telecom operators to conduct six month long trials for the use and application of 5G technology in India. The agency had allocated 5G trial spectrums in 700MHz, 3.2 to 3.6GHz, and 24.25 to 28.5GHz bands to Airtel, Jio, and Vodafone Idea to develop the next generation of networking technology. Notably, Reliance Jio would be using its standalone 5G architecture for its trials. This includes testing of core and radio networks for peak speeds, latency, and data loads as well.
The company also added that it would be using both mid and mmwave bands along with its standalone architecture for 5G trials in Mumbai. Earlier this year, the carrier stated that “Indigenously developed 5G Radio integrated with Jio’s 5G Core Network and 5G Smartphones have achieved over the air throughputs in excess of 1 Gbps. In-house Massive MIMO (multiple input and multiple output) and indoor 5G small cell are under advanced stages of development.” More news regarding its 5G services is expected to be revealed at its Reliance Industries’ AGM on June 24, alongside the launch of its 5G Phone.
Lenovo is working on the Lenovo K13 series of smartphones. Fresh information reveals that the upcoming Lenovo K13 Pro and K13 Note have been spotted at the Google Play Console and in the list of Google Supported Devices. The listings have revealed key information such as display resolution, chipset, RAM, and Android version.
Lenovo K13 Pro and K13 Note Google Play Console listing
The Lenovo K13 Pro and K13 Note both feature an HD+ display with a teardrop notch that offers a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The Pro model is powered by Snapdragon 662 chipset, which is mentioned with its SM6115 part number in the listing. The SoC is coupled with 6 GB of RAM.
Lenovo K13 Pro and K13 have the same front design
On the other side, the K13 Note is driven by 4 GB of RAM and Snapdragon 480 5G SoC, which is mentioned with the SM4350 part number. Both phones are loaded with Android 11 OS. Their front renders show that they have the same front design.
The listing also shows that the K13 Pro is codenamed as Caprip, whereas the Note model has Capri codename. The Capri codename is also associated with other Motorola phones such as Moto G10, Moto G10 Power, and Moto G30. The K13 Pro appears to be a rebranded version of the Moto G30 handset.
As far as the K13 Note is concerned, a recent leak suggested that it could be a rebranded version of the Unisoc T710 powered Moto G20. However, now that it is spotted 5G-ready chip, it appears that it could be somewhat different from the Moto G20 handset.
Recently, Battlegrounds Mobile India came under scrutiny from government officials over the security risks the game posed in India. While some wanted the game to be banned even before its launch, it seems that this might not be possible for now.
As part of my research on predatory practise of Chinese companies in India and it's impact on National Security, had filed an RTI about the relaunch of PUBG Mobile in India by Krafton (in which the Chinese behemoth has the second largest stake). pic.twitter.com/WL5rkThdOb
According to a TechRadarreport, a response from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has offered us some clarity regarding this matter. As per a series of tweets from Dr. Gaurav Tyagi, the one that filed an RTI regarding the game’s launch, the ministry has clarified that the title cannot be banned from the country before its launch in India. Although, it further added that the game could face a ban under section 69A of the Informations Technology Act, 2000, once it has launched in the region.
The IT Ministry also stated that the “Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology has no role in granting any permission for entry of PUBG or any company/Mobile app in India.” In simpler terms, Krafton INC, the studio behind the popular battle royale IP, is clear to launch the game in India, but risks facing a ban after its eventual release. This also implies that it has a short while to fix or address any issues that might have it face a ban by the local government.
Interestingly, Tyagi stated that if Krafton was allowed to go forward with its launch of Battlegrounds Mobile India, it might prompt other banned companies to follow a similar strategy as “TikTok, WeChat can just change their name and structure and re-launch without addressing the underlying security issues.” As of right now, the game’s exact launch date has yet to be revealed, but pre-registration for the game has been live since 18th May 2021. So stay tuned for more updates.
Huawei, one of the leading technology companies in China, has partnered with WDC Networks for supplying solar generation solutions using artificial intelligence and high-performance optimizers with lithium batteries.
The company has announced that the agreement for the partnership was brokered through partner HDT Energy, which is a business division of HDT International that will handle the logistics of this partnership while WDC distributes products to over 12,000 integrators.
In a statement, Huawei said that the partnership will focus on supplying solar generation solutions to households, businesses, and distributed generation plants. Huawei also says it leads the Brazilian inverters market with a 30 percent share.
WDC is traditionally a distributor of IP and wireless equipment for telecommunication operators and internet service providers in Brazil, began distributing solar equipment from Canadian Solar, Germany’s AE Solar and SMA, and local player Froniusas last year.
Chinese manufacturers are the main equipment suppliers for Brazil’s growing solar power industry. The Chinese company had started operating in this segment in 2016, offering solar inverters through the Smart Fusion Solar portfolio. As per the company, there are more than 4GW in Brazil solar energy projects supplied with its Fusion solution, encompassing around 70 medium and large projects.
Fábio Mendes, Huawei director of channels and sales for Latin America, said in the statement, “the goal now is to expand the Huawei brand to the residential, commercial and industrial segments in the country.”
From China to India to the EMEA region, the tablet market has experienced a resurgence of sort propelled by the COVID 19 pandemic. Before this resurgence, the tablet market had been experiencing dwindling fortunes since the emergence of large display-packing smartphones. The resurgence started last year as a result of the lockdown which gave rise to the need to move classes online, hold virtual meetings, and work remotely. To get a clear idea of the growth level, China recorded its biggest growth in the tablet market since 2014 in Q3 2020.
Market research firm Counterpoint has now revealed that the global tablet market equally recorded a substantial 19% YoY growth in 2020. The industry saw demand for large-screen mobile devices spiral upwards as a result of the need to work remotely, as well as take online classes during the stay-at-home period. Even as restrictions are being eased up, the demand for tablets isn’t looking like what will come down soon. Counterpoint also reports that the industry grew by a staggering 53% YoY in Q1 2021 after reaching a five-year high in Q4 2020. However, the shipments fell by 22% on a Quarter-on-Quarter basis but that is due to the first quarter being an off-season period.
Samsung and Apple which have sustained their tablet business over the years recorded the biggest growth during the period as they expanded their market share in 2020 following the rising demand. This was made even easier for the duo since most OEMs had either closed or downsized their tablet market. Xiaomi, for instance, haven’t launched a new model since 2018 when the Mi Pad 4 was launched. The plight of Huawei which hitherto had a significant share of the market, also gifted some more market shares to Apple and Samsung.
The report also shows that Apple’s iPad shipments grew by 33% worldwide in 2020 compared to 2019, making it the market leader. The US company also saw an increase in its market share in Q1 2021 to 37%. The Cupertino-based company recorded impressive performance in all major regions globally but that of Japan continued to hover around an all-time high.

This includes the smartphone maker’s flagship models as well like the Realme GT, with the device being available starting from 2,500 Yuan (roughly 390 US Dollars). Although the domestic brands have seen a decline, these vendors still account for 83.8 percent of all smartphones that were shipped in this period. This includes the launch of 25 new models last month. Interestingly, even the number of handset models being launched fell by 16.7 percent year on year.
For the first five months of this year (from January to May), the local smartphone manufacturers in China shipped a total of 131 million units. This marked a year on year rise of 16.7 percent. The domestic brands alone accounted for 88 percent of all handset shipments during these months. In this period, a total of 166 new smartphone models were also launched in the Chinese market, which marked an increase of 11.4 percent year on year. The data also showcased that the market in China grew rapidly during the first five months, which was especially true for 5G enabled handsets.

Hence, there are vague rumors that suggest that the S21 FE 5G may come with S Pen support. A recent report claimed that it may cost between $625 and $720 in South Korea. Leaked renders by Evan Blass have revealed that it will come in multiple colors such as green, white, blue, violet, and grey.

It is currently unknown which 5nm chipset will be used in this device, but could offer various benefits liked faster performance with improvement in battery life as well. So stay tuned for more updates regarding this matter, as we will be covering the MWC 2021 event.

The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has announced an investigation into the “duopoly” of Apple and Google on mobile ecosystems. The development comes just one day after a similar investigation was initiated in Japan.
The CMA will look into Apple and Google’s “effective duopoly” on the supply of operating systems, including iOS and Android, the App Store and Google Play Store, and web browsers such as Safari and Chrome.
The department defines “mobile ecosystems” as “gateways through which consumers can access a variety of products, content and services,” meaning that the investigation will cover a range of services and products.
The investigation will be wide ranging, with the watchdog concerns about the nested gateways that are created as a result of the pair’s dominance of mobile ecosystem — intermediating how consumers can access a variety of products, content and services.
It beileves that consumers could be “losing out across a wide range of areas” as a result of the purported duopoly, leading to “reduced innovation” and “consumers paying higher prices.” Further, the investigation will also examine the effect of the companies’ market power on other businesses, including app developers and advertisers.
This new development comes at a time when UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is already investigating Apple’s App Store policies. Market investigations can make recommendations to the government or other bodies in the UK, issue guidance to businesses and consumers, and more.

Microsoft will be announcing the next version of Windows called Windows 11 on June 24. Yesterday, a near-final edition of the Windows 11 with build number 21996.1 was leaked on a Chinese forum site. The leak not only confirms the moniker of the device but also reveals its new UI and features.
The leaked Windows 11 ISO reveals that the new operating system is not significantly different from Windows 10 in terms of design. However, there are many noticeable changes in the UI throughout the OS such as rounded corners, new animations, colorful icons, and a cleaner experience. Right off the bat, the user interface of the Windows 11 looks almost identical to the now-defunct Windows 10X.
The Start Menu and icons are now placed at the center of the taskbar. Users who do not want it at the center can use a toggle provided in the setting to move it to the left corner of the taskbar. The Live Tiles have been replaced by pinned apps and recently accessed files in the Start Menu.
It features slide-out widgets for weather, news, and other content from the internet. The maximize button on all apps has a snap controls function that offers a couple of options to snap windows in different sections or side by side. It features new built-in themes and an enhanced dark mode. While there have been reports that Microsoft is working on a new store for apps, the Windows Store available in the leaked Windows 11 build is almost the same as what is available on Windows 10.
Readers should note that the leaked Windows 11 ISO (build number 21996.1) is a near-final version. Hence, Microsoft is expected to add more features once it is announced. There is a possibility that the leaked build may contain malicious programs or viruses. Hence, it is advisable to install it on a virtual machine.
To sum up, Windows 11 appears to a more refined version of Windows 10. Speaking of Windows 10, Microsoft recently confirmed that it will be ending support for the 10-year-old Windows 10 on Oct. 14, 2025.
HMD Global may not yet be a force to reckon with in the high-end smartphone market but when it comes to feature phones, the Nokia brand is one of the major players with millions of units in shipments annually. A recent report by Counterpoint shows that the Finnish company shipped 11 million feature phones in Q1 2021 alone. To further shore up its market share in that segment, HMD has announced two new feature phones – Nokia 110 4G and 105 4G.
The major highlight of the two phones is the presence of 4G connectivity, a feature which itel included in the recently launched itel Magic 2 4G. The 4G phones may not have WiFi and hotspot tethering features like itel’s Magic 2 4G but they come with support for high-quality HD Voice calls over VoLTE. In an era where many carriers are planning to phase out 2G network, these new Nokia phones guarantee you several years of usage.
The Nokia 110 and 105 were first unveiled in 2019 but only featured 2G connectivity. Apart from the enhanced LTE offering, the models also come with some improvements in their designs. They retain the tiny, compact build inherited from their predecessors but the form factor is different. You get a more symmetrical design with a slight curvature of the top and bottom aspects.
The two models sport a 1.8-inch display with 120 x 160 pixel resolution. While the Nokia 110 4G packs a single rear camera, there is no camera on the 105 4G. You also get a 3.5 mm headphone jack on both models., a microSD slot that supports up to 32GB storage expansion and an FM radio. You won’t be needing to plug in a headphone jack to use the FM radio which is cool. The phones also come with a LED flashlight located at the top edge on both models.
Finally, the two models are powered by a 1,020mAh battery each. The battery will support several days of standby use while for voice calls, it can last up to 5 hours. This can be extended if the phone is used in 3G and when 2G is in use, the battery life can even last up to 16 hours.
The Nokia 105 4G will be available in Black, Blue, and Red while the Nokia 110 4G will be available in Black, Yellow, and Aqua. There is no word yet on the prices and availability.
Google is rolling out new features to a number of its Android apps and services. Apps such as Messages, Gboard, and the accessibility app, Voice Access are on the list alongside Android Auto and the Android Earthquake Alerts System.
Google Messages – Starred Messages
The ability to star messages is a feature I use a lot on WhatsApp, and I’m sure a lot of our readers do too. Now the feature is coming to Google Messages, so users can star important messages in their inbox.
The feature will begin rolling out in a few weeks and once available, all you have to do is long-press on a message you wish to star.
Gboard – Emoji Kitchen Suggestions
Keyboard apps have become much smarter since their first iteration. They can not only predict texts but also suggest emojis and stickers. Gboard which is Google’s own keyboard app will now be able to suggest stickers in the Emoji Kitchen based on the context of your message.
For those who don’t know what Emoji Kitchen is, it is a feature that lets you combine two emojis into one creative sticker. For example, you can combine the clown emoji with a kiss emoji to get a clown blowing a kiss. With the suggestion, you will get sticker suggestions from the emoji kitchen.
The feature which will work with messages in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, will be available for beta users today and will come to the stable version later this summer.
Hey Google
You can use the Hey Google command to control a number of apps and we don’t mean just launching them. Google is expanding the feature to more apps including Strava. Users will be able to ask Google Assistant to check a metric on Strava.
Voice Acess – Gaze Detection and Enhanced Password Dictation
