Beijing Metropolitan authority has granted JD.com, Meituan, and Neolix to test their autonomous vehicle delivery system on some designated public roads within the Beijing suburbs. Specifically, the driverless delivery vans will run a pilot scheme within the Yizhuang Development Area. The announcement was made on Tuesday by the local authorities.
According to reports, the requisite 5G infrastructure needed for the rollout of driverless delivery service in the Yizhuang neighborhood is already in place. The three companies granted the permit have differing goals. While JD.com and Meituan seek these self-driving delivery vans to meet up demand from its core business concerns, Neolix is a young startup focused on retail, surveillance, and other city services. Neolix is backed by Li Auto, a budding electric vehicle manufacturer.
The new driverless delivery scheme is bound to impact positively on the operations of JD.com, as it may scale down the number of delivery staff needed for its activities in the target area. Meituan draws from a pool of riders to carry out restaurant deliveries, enhanced with the new driverless delivery system.
About 150 self-driving delivery vans would be deployed by Neolix by June, according to the company. It is still unclear the scale of deployment of the delivery robots by JD.com and Meituan, as both companies were yet to provide public information on their plans.
There are strict safety rules that must be met by each of the companies, including on-the-spot or remote safety drivers, to react to the fluid dynamics of these robots interfacing with pedestrians. Each company has developed the self-driving technology to an appreciable level for its deployment and hopes this pilot run will be highly successful. Each of the delivery vans is customized to interact with customers excellently.
Japanese government wants Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSMC), the world’s leading chip manufacturer, and Sony Group to build the country’s first 20-nanomemter chip plant.
The development, which was first reported by Nikkan Kogyo newspaper, indicates that the investment for building the 20nm chip plant in Japan would be around 1 trillion yen, which roughly converts to $9.2 billion.
If the companies agree to do this, then the factory would be built close to Sony’s image sensor plant in Southwest Japan. The details ceom from a proposal floated by Japan’s trade and industry ministry, says the report.
Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida said that “stable chip supplies are important for Japan to maintain its international competitiveness” but has not commented on this development of building a 20nm chip plant. A ministry spokesman said to Reuters that the report was not true but declined to elaborate.
Simlar to the United States, Japan is also looking for wats to boost semiconductor production in the country to ensure that its companies have easier access to critical components for making devices.
The issues come after the trade war between the United States and China, which resulted in concerns about majority of the chip production in the world is located in Taiwan. The global shortage of chips is also one of the contributing factors for expansion of facilities to other regions to ensure steady flow of critical components.
Anker has unveiled its lineup of second-generation Nano II ultra-fast gallium Nitride (GaN) chargers. The GaN chargers come in handy and offer greater power efficiency. The GaN Nano II offers up to 65W fast charging to compatible devices in an efficient manner. The lineup of Anker chargers, in terms of performance and affordability, compares well with similar chargers.
The GaN Nano II lineup is coming three years after the first set of GaN chargers. They are more efficient, smaller, and packs more power and speed in charging than their predecessors. Anker is deploying a more effective chip technology and internal layout than what was used in the earlier models.
The GaN Nano II lineup has three fast-charging variants through the USB Type-C port. The chargers were designed with the same form factor and options for 30W, 45W, and 65W charging. The chargers also have the Anker PowerIQ 3.0 technology for optimal and intelligent charging of any connected or compatible device.
The upgrades from the first-gen models are indeed on different fronts, including a 20% increase in working frequency. A common challenge of chargers is their heat dissipation capacity, and the GaN Nano II lineup is efficient in this regard. It generates less heat while in operation, thus enhancing the overall performance and durability of the charger.
All the chargers are quite versatile and can charge a long list of different devices from laptop to tab and other devices. They are also substantially smaller than their predecessors.
Anker’s 30W Nano II GaN charger is priced at $30, the 45W option costs $36, and the 65W model sells for $40. All the chargers are now available for preorder from Anker and Amazon US.
The image was posted on Weibo by the Chinese leaker, Digital Chat Station, and it shows the power adapter will come in white and have a full-sized USB port instead of a USB-C port as we have seen with a lot of high output chargers. Even the Baseus 100W GaN charger has a USB-C port. Nevertheless, the 100W Honor SuperCharge power adapter is portable and fits in the palm.
There are speculations that the charger is for the Honor RNA-AN00 which is believed to be the Honor 50 Pro. Since the device will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G processor, there is a chance that Honor is also making use of Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 5 technology.
Regardless of if this charger is bundled with the Honor 50 Pro, we can be sure that it will ship with an Honor phone in the near future, probably the Honor Magic 3 or the foldable Honor Magic planned for later this year.

It is the moment of Pro and Ultra flagships. Several top-tier flagships made their debut in the last period and it is very hard to choose the best one, especially for those who are not experts in the smartphone world. ZTE came up with the Axon 30 Ultra and Nubia rebranded it into Nubia Z30 Pro: even though it is not exactly the same phone, it is the first rebrand of a top-tier flagship. But is it also the most interesting flagship out there? This comparison with the OnePlus 9 Pro and the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro will hopefully help you to answer the question regarding its price range.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

Dual SIM slot, 5G, IP68 waterproof
Dual SIM slot, 5G, reverse wireless charging
Design
Nubia Z30 Pro, OnePlus 9 Pro, and Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro all feature an amazing design with a glass back, an aluminum frame, and a curved display with very narrow bezels. Which one should you go for? It is mostly a matter of taste. Just consider that the OnePlus 9 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro are waterproof with the IP68 certification and the latter also offers the latest Corning protection: Gorilla Glass Victus. Which one would you pick?
Display
Nubia Z30 Pro has the highest refresh rate with 144 Hz, but the OnePlus 9 Pro and the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro come with better displays and they feature higher Quad HD+ resolutions. The OnePlus 9 Pro has the same panel as the OPPO Find X3 Pro with one billion colors, 10-bit color depth, and LTPO technology: it is definitely the most advanced one. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro comes right after with its Quad HD+ AMOLED display and a 120 Hz refresh rate. All the phones feature an in-display fingerprint reader.
Hardware/Software
Nubia Z30 Pro, OnePlus 9 Pro, and Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro are powered by the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform and they offer a flagship-class level of performance. There is a phone which is slightly better than the other: the highest-end configuration of the Nubia Z30 Pro which packs 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. OnePlus 9 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro sport a max of 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. The three handsets come with Android 11 out of the box and highly customized user interfaces. The UI of the Oneplus 9 Pro changes depending on the market: it has ColorOS in China and OxygenOS in the rest of the world.
Camera
All of these devices are astonishing camera phones. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro is the inferior one as it comes with less stunning sensors, but it is still a high-end camera phone. The battle is between the Hasselblad quad-camera of the Oneplus 9 Pro and the triple 64 MP camera + 8 MP periscope sensor of the Nubia Z30 Pro. The latter looks like the best one on the paper.
Battery
Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro has the biggest battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh and it provides the longest battery life on a single charge. Unfortunately, the Nubia Z30 Pro is the only one to lack wireless charging, but it supports faster wired charging with a power of 120W.
ZTE Nubia Z30 Pro vs OnePlus 9 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro: Price
Nubia Z30 Pro is priced at about €640/$780 in China, the OnePlus 9 Pro starts at $766/€629, and Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro begins at €725/$885. There is not a definitive winner of this comparison: the Nubia Z30 Pro has stunning cameras and faster charging (but lacks wireless charging), the OnePlus 9 Pro (my fave) comes with an amazing display, great cameras, and Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro has a bigger battery but inferior cameras. Which one would you choose?

DIZO is the first but we can expect to see more brands join the ecosystem in the near future.

Then, in 2020, the device received MIUI 12 update as well. Now, the company has started rolling MIUI 12.5 update for the Mi 9 along with Android 11.
Xiaomi Mi 9
Xiaomi has been seeding MIUI 12.5 update to eligible phones for the past few weeks. At the same time, the company has been also rolling out the Android 11 update for some devices.
Hence, the latest system update for Mi 9 not only brings MIUI 12.5 but also Android 11. This update is currently live in China with build number V12.5.3.0.RFACNXM and April 2021 security patches.
Like any other newly released public MIUI build, this one is currently in the Stable Beta phase. This means it is being rolled out in batches. Therefore, the update is only available for a select few users right now.
Anyway, the Android 11-based MIUI 12.5 update for Mi 9 should be seeded out to more users in China in the coming days. Similarly, international variants of this handset should also get this update in near future.

Xiaomi is presently at the number 3 position in the top smartphone vendor chart, thanks to a strong showing in the last couple of years. The company has now announced its projections for the next five years. Lu Weibing, Xiaomi Group president and Redmi GM, is reported to have disclosed that the company expects to become the world’s number one smartphone vendor within the next three to five years, hoping to displace Samsung which has held the crown for several years now.
Lu Weibing stated this at the 2021 Xiaomi school enrollment intensive training held on May 24. Weibing also disclosed that Xiaomi’s mobile phone business still ranks at the third spot globally after emerging at the spot in the third quarter of last year. However, he disclosed that the company expects to surpass Apple and become the world’s number 2 smartphone vendor this year.
The latest data released by market research firm Canalys in April this year shows that global smartphone shipments reached 347 million in the first quarter of 2021. Among them, Samsung ranked first with a 22% share and shipped 76.5 million units. Apple followed closely with shipments of 52.4 million units, with a share of 15%. Xiaomi ranked at the third spot but it created the best single-quarter performance ever, with a year-on-year growth of 62%. The happens to be the world’s fastest growth rate yet for the industry with 49 million units shipped. The Chinese company also raked in up to 14% share of the market with the difference between Apple and Xiaomi standing at a little more than 3 million units.
Xiaomi’s latest flagship Mi 11 Ultra, Mi MIX Fold foldable smartphone, and other premium models will help the company achieve an impressive sales margin in the high-end market. The Chinese company has over the years earned a decent reputation for launching affordable premium smartphones. The company made an entry into the premium flagship market which has further enhanced its market share. Apple won’t be launching a new model any time soon so it is not impossible for Xiaomi to sell more units than Apple in Q2 but that will be short-lived. Apple will likely move back into the number two spot in the third or fourth quarter when it launches its 2021 flagship models. In addition, Apple will continue to dominate the top spot in terms of revenue.
The OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T series received an update recently that brings some fixes and optimizations as well as May’s security patch, but unlike the update for the OnePlus 8 series, that update didn’t bring the Bitmoji AOD feature that a lot of users were looking forward to. Now, new info circulating on the web says that the AOD feature will not be made available for the 2019 phones.
According to info shared on a OnePlus Forums thread, the AOD feature won’t be coming to the OnePlus 7/7T series. An image included in the post shows a conversation between a customer and a support staff.
The support staff stated that due to hardware differences, the AOD feature of the OnePlus 8T series and other models can’t be adopted for the devices. He added that the Research and Development team tried several adaptation schemes and even added the feature to the Open Beta version 3. Unfortunately, they didn’t get the desired optimization when it was added to the stable version and had to remove it. Surprisingly, the support staff recommended that the user switch back to Open Beta 4 version if they would still like to access the feature.
Although Oneplus has been selling smart TVs for almost two years, they are still exclusive to India. However, they are expected to make their way to Europe soon. Hence, it is not surprising to learn that the upcoming OnePlus TV U1S series will be first launching in India, as per tipster Ishan Agarwal, who has partnered with PriceBaba to share this information.
According to the leakster, the OnePlus TV U1S series will come in three sizes – 50-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch. All three models are said to sport an LED-backlit LCD panel with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels (4K) and a 60Hz refresh rate.
The panel on these televisions will support HDR 10+, HLG, and MEMC. As for audio, the TVs will sport Dolby Atmos-supported 30W speakers co-tuned by Dynaudio. But interestingly, they will only feature HDMI 2.0 when rival Xiaomi offers products with HDMI 2.1.
On the software front, the forthcoming OnePlus smart TVs will run outdated Android TV 10 operating system with OxygenPlay content aggregation service.
The main highlight of these televisions will be support for a detachable webcam accessory with a built-in microphone. Using this accessory, users will be able to make 1080p video calls on Google Duo.
Unfortunately, there’s no word on the launch date and price of the OnePlus U1S series and the webcam accessory. But what we know is that this camera will be compatible with older OnePlus smart TVs.

WhatsApp, one of the leading instant messaging applications from social media giant Facebook, has filed a lawsuit against the Indian government. It seeks to block regulations coming into force that would compel the app to break its privacy protections.
The case, filed in the Delhi High Court, asks to declare that one of the new IT rules is a violation of privacy rights in India’s constitution since it requires social media companies to identify the “first originator of information” when authorities demand it.
It’s noteworthy that the law only requires WhatsApp to unmask people credibly accused of the wrongdoing but in practice, the company cannot do it alone. The traceability rule will also affect WhatsApp alternatives like Signal and Telegram which are inherently designed to be end-to-end encrypted.
WhatsApp has about half a billion users in India. It also says that because messages are encrypted end-to-end it would have to break encryption for receivers of messages as well as the originators to comply with the new law.
In a statement to Reuters, WhatsApp said that “requiring messaging apps to ‘trace’ chats is the equivalent of asking us to keep a fingerprint of every single message sent on WhatsApp, which would break end-to-end encryption and fundamentally undermines people’s right to privacy.”
This is yet another instance of growing tensions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government and tech giants such as Facebook, Google, and Twitter, among others. This is a complex situation as India is one of the largest markets for these companies.
The tensions escalated when police visited Twitter‘s office this week after the microblogging platform labeled posts by the spokesperson of Narendra Modi’s political party as “manipulated media” for sharing a forged document.
Prior to that, the Indian government had pressed the tech companies to remove content from the social media platform where people criticized the government’s handling of the COVID-19’s second wave.

Chinese smartphone brand realme started recruiting realme UI 2.0 (Android 11) beta testers for the realme X3 and the realme X3 SuperZoom at the end of January. Now, four months later, these smartphones have finally started receiving stable Android 11 update.
The Android 11 update for realme smartphones comes as realme UI 2.0, which is based on OPPO ColorOS 11. Despite releasing Android 11 builds for eligible devices since late September 2020, realme has managed to deliver a stable update only for a select few handsets.
The realme X3 and the realme X3 SuperZoom are the latest phones to join the elite list of realme devices running Android 11 (realme UI 2.0).
According to the official announcement post on realme Community, the realme X3 / X3 SuperZoom Android 11-based realme UI 2.0 update arrives with build number RMX2081PU_11.C.06. Users need to be on build number RMX2081PU_11.A.53 to receive this update.
The update is being rolled out in batches, and therefore, it may take some time to reach every unit. Anyway, users can head over to Settings > Software Update to check whether their phone has received the OTA update.
Users not satisfied with the realme UI 2.0 update can roll back to Android 10-based realme UI. However, this process will wipe the handset’s internal storage.
A couple of months ago, Realme had launched the Realme GT Neo smartphone in the Chinese market and now the company has announced a new version of the device, dubbed Realme GT Neo Flash Edition.
There isn’t much difference between the Realme GT Neo and the new Flash Edition. The new model comes with the “Dawn” plain leather color scheme and the charging speed has been increased from 50W to 65W.
The smartphone features a 6.43-inch Samsung Super AMOLED display with 2400 x 1080 pixels screen resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 360Hz touch sampling rate, and 91.7 percent screen-to-body ratio.
Under the hood, the device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC. The original variant was the world’s first phone to come powered by the Dimensity 1200 chipset. The phone packs up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.
In the camera department, the phone features a triple-camera setup that consists of a 64-megapixel Sony IMX682 primary sensor, an 8-megapixel sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2-megapixel sensor with a macro lens. On the front side, the device features a 16-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling.
Connectivity options on the device include Dual-SIM 5G, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, GALILEO, QZSS), and NFC. It has all the essential sensors, such as an accelerometer, gyroscope, ambient light sensor, compass, and proximity sensor. Other features include stereo speakers, Dolby Sound, Hi-Res Audio certification, 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C port.
The smartphone runs the Android 11 operating system out-of-the-box and has Realme UI 2.0 on top. It is powered by a 4,500mAh battery with support for 65W fast charging and packs a 65W charger in the box.
