Video showing the HarmonyOS features & design on the Mate 40 Pro leaks

Huawei first announced the HarmonyOS 2.0 (also known as Hongmeng OS 2.0) for smartphones at the Huawei Developer Conference 2020. The tech giant later started pushing the beta version to selected models like the P30 and Mate 30 Pro. The stable version is billed to start rolling out in June, perhaps onboard the P50 smartphone which is expected to be launched that same period. Huawei Mate 40 Pro

Ahead of the official release, a demo video showing the performance of the Harmony 2.0 onboard a Huawei smartphone that looks like the Mate 40 Pro has appeared. The four-minute video which leaked on Weibo reveals all major improvements that have been introduced on the OS.

What stands out most is the new control center which can be dragged from the top right corner using gesture control. On the top left corner is located an in-phone search engine. Also, when the screen is swiped down from anywhere, it reveals notifications.

Another interesting observation is the speed at which the apps open. It is notably quicker than what obtains in Android phones. But then, these are basically native apps. There is no assurance that third-party apps will perform in the same manner.

The Harmony OS 2.0 user interface is EMUI 11 and it is adaptable to both Harmony and Android. Huawei claims the OS is fully developed by its engineers but supports Android apps. Further, some early testers have confirmed that it is not based on the Android kernel but an entirely different platform, built by Huawei from scratch.

The HarmonyOS is designed to seamlessly integrate various smart devices for fast connection. The design ensures that services can be seamlessly transferred among the devices to produce a smooth holistic experience. The leaked video shows HarmonyOS indeed holds promise as a formidable Android rival but it remains to be seen if the OS will actually live up to expectations.

Xiaomi 67W charger confirmed to launch in India but 80W wireless charger may not see a release

Xiaomi launched the Mi 11 Ultra in India late last month. However, the smartphone is yet to go on sale in the country. But as usual, the company had already sent out review units to media houses. Some of them have published their reviews as well. One such publication has revealed details of the accessories associated with this handset.

Xiaomi Mi 67W Charger Featured 01

The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra supports 67W wired charging and 67W wireless charging. But the device ships with a 55W charger in India. Also, the fastest wireless charger sold by the company in India is capped at 30W.

In other words, there are no chargers to experience Mi 11 Ultra’s maximum wired and wireless charging speed in India. But thankfully, Xiaomi has confirmed to MySmartPrice that it will be soon launching the 67W charger in the country.

Xiaomi Mi 67W Charger Featured 02

The Chinese smartphone maker bundles a 55W charger with the Mi 11 Ultra in India since the 67W charger is yet to clear the necessary certification in the country. As a result, interested customers will have to buy this accessory separately whenever it debuts in the region.

This charger is capable of charging the Mi 11 Ultra fully in 36 minutes. Interestingly, it has a USB Type-A port instead of USB Type-C like most ultra-fast chargers. Additionally, it can be used to charge other devices, including laptops.

Xiaomi Mi 67W Charger Featured 03

On the other hand, Xiaomi is yet to decide on the availability of the 80W wireless charger in India. This wireless charging stand can charge the Mi 11 Ultra at its peak 67W speed. Also, it comes bundled with a 120W power adapter for operation.

We don’t see any possibility of Xiaomi launching the ultra-speed 80W wireless charging stand and the 120W adapter in India since even iQOO skipped the 120W charger for the iQOO 7 Legend in the country. This decision by the companies appears to be related to local safety regulations rather than their unwillingness.

Renders show canceled colorways of the OnePlus 9 series

When it comes to making phones, manufacturers go through several designs before arriving at the final one. There are times some of these early prototypes leak, giving us a look at what could have been. This is one of those times, as renders of canceled colors for the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro have surfaced on the internet.

These renders were created based on live images of the prototypes according to Max Jambor who is the source. The images show that the OnePlus 9 would have come in Glossy Green and Glossy Silver. Both colorways look like the Aquamarine Green and Lunar Silver OnePlus 8T respectively. Seeing how closely the colors look, we are glad OnePlus went with a different CMF (Color Material Finish) for the final product.

Canceled OnePlus 9 series colorways
Canceled OnePlus 9 series colorways

For the OnePlus 9 Pro, the images show a Matte White and a Glossy Black variant of the phone. While OnePlus did release a black version of the OnePlus 9 Pro the CMF is different. However, we definitely would love to see the flagship in Matte White considering quite a number of manufacturers launched their 2021 flagships in this colorway.

All hope isn’t lost as we can’t rule out the possibility of OnePlus announcing new colorways for the two phones before a successor arrives. What colors do you want to see the OnePlus 9 and OnePus 9 Pro come in? Let us know in the comment box below.

The unreleased Samsung Galaxy A82 5G will be only eligible for quarterly security updates

The Samsung Galaxy A82 5G is in the news for a while now. This smartphone is said to be nothing but a rebadged Galaxy Quantum2 without the QRNG(Quantum Random Number Generator) chip for the global markets. The original device made its debut in South Korea in mid-April. Now, half a month later, the Galaxy A82 5G appears on a Samsung official website revealing a key detail about it.

Samsung Galaxy Quantum2

The unreleased Galaxy A82 5G has been listed on the Samsung Mobile security page. According to it, this smartphone will be only eligible for quarterly security updates, just like the Galaxy A72.

It is bizarre why Samsung is only providing quarterly security updates for the Galaxy A72 and the forthcoming Galaxy A82 5G as the cheaper Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A52 5G are eligible for monthly security updates.

We could not guess of any possible reason for this move. Only Samsung could explain this but we don’t think we will ever get an explanation from the South Korean tech giant.

Samsung Galaxy A82 5G Quarterly Security Updates

Anyway, as far as specs are concerned, the upcoming Galaxy A82 5G will feature a 6.7-inch  QHD+ 120Hz curved AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ SoC, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage, 64MP (OIS, wide) + 12MP (ultra-wide) + 5MP (macro) triple camera setup, and a 10MP selfie camera with auto-focus.

Other features of this phone will include a MicroSD card slot, in-screen fingerprint sensor, IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, One UI 3.x based on Android 11, 4,500mAh battery, and 25W fast charging.

Global TWS market to record 33% YoY Growth in 2021: Report

The global TWS (true wireless earbuds) market is expected to see a growth of 33 percent year on year in 2021, reaching a sizeable 310 million units. This follows after the massive 78 percent year on year growth that the market saw back in 2020.

Sennheiser Momentum TWS 2

According to a Counterpoint Research report, the TWS market saw shipments that slightly crossed expectations back in 2020, reaching 233 million units. Although, the performance was mainly driven by low to mid range segments. Back in 2020, the coronavirus pandemic had impacted the TWS market in China last year, but the situation has improved, with production capacities running at full capacity as well. Furthermore, the market demand for the product online has been higher than other electronic devices.

Notably, the sales were also backed by the work from home and online education making consumers more likely to purchase electronic gadgets and more. Thus, the proportion of low to mid range TWS earbuds saw better sales during this time. While vaccines across the globe has helped ease the impact of COVID-19, the pent up demand for high end TWS is not expected to explode until late Q3 2021, as per the report.

TWS

According to Senior Research Analyst Liz Lee, “Most anticipated is a new release from Apple, its first in two years. We expect it to be one of the biggest drivers of TWS market growth from Q4 2021 to the next year. Apple will maintain strong market leadership based on its loyal customer base, although its share will inevitably fall with the intensifying competition. At that point, the market focus will gradually shift to the mid- to high-price segment as vaccinations help consumer sentiment improve.”

Huawei has recently been rolling out the developer public beta version of its HarmonyOS to select smartphone models. Now, the company has announced that it is gearing up for the launch of the its proprietary operating system’s final build that will launch sometime in early June 2021.

Huawei

According to Wang Chenglu, the President of the Chinese tech giant’s consumer business software department and director of AI and smart business department, the company will be rolling out the HarmonyOS (also known as HongMengOS in China) update from the beginning of June. While the senior executive refrained from announcing the names of the specific models that would receive this upgrade, it is expected that the Mate 40 series, Mate 30 series, the P40 series, and the Mate X2 series will be one of the first to receive the update.

Although, after the initial batch of smartphone models receive this update, Huawei would soon include other devices as well in following batches to receive the new update. It is also expected that a large number of older models from the company, including certain Honor smartphones will be receiving the update as well, later on during summer. This would mark a big move from the company as it shifts away from Android for its 200 million smartphones that are currently in circulation.

Huawei

The brand is aiming on moving all of these 200 million devices to its own platform by the end of this year. This new OS also supports cross platform, meaning, it was designed to be uniform and work seamlessly with the users’ other smart home products that support HarmonyOS. So stay tuned for more updates.

Samsung Galaxy A52 5G could launch in India after all

Samsung launched the Galaxy A52, Galaxy A72, and the Galaxy A52 5G at the GAlaxy Awesome Unpacked event in March. The former two devices made their way to India in the same month itself. However, the latter did not make the cut. But now, it seems like the Galaxy A52 5G will launch in India after all.

Samsung Galaxy A52 Awesome White Featured
Samsung Galaxy A52 / A52 5G

According to Twitter user @_the_tech_guy, Samsung has started developing firmware for the Galaxy A52 5G Indian variant. This version of the smartphone will arrive with model number SM-A526B. For those unaware, the regular Galaxy A52 sold in India bears the model number SM-A525F.

But unfortunately, the timeline of this handset’s launch in the country is a mystery as of now. As far as pricing is concerned, we can expect it to sit between the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A72 as there’s a huge price difference between them.

Talking about features, the Galaxy A52 5G differs from the vanilla Galaxy A52 in terms of three aspects. The former is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G SoC, features a 120Hz display, and comes with 5G connectivity. On the other hand, the latter has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC, a 90Hz display, and 4G connectivity.

This is not the first time Samsung will be bringing a 5G variant of the existing model to India. Just recently, the South Korean tech giant debuted the Galaxy S20 FE 5G in the country after half a year from its initial release in global markets.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series faces issues with its S Pen

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series, including the base model and the Galaxy Note 10+ is apparently facing an issue that is affecting its S Pen. A number of users have recently started complaining about this issue.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10

According to a SamMobile report, the high end devices from 2019 is facing an issue that causes the S Pen to disconnect every now and then. This can further lead to certain functions and features not being usable within the Galaxy Note 10 series, including the Air Actions. While the problem of disconnection of the S Pen isn’t exactly a new issue, the frequency at which it occurs has risen recently. A few of the Galaxy Note 10 users found that the issue started appearing after installing either the March 2021 or April 2021 security patch.

Although, there is not evidence to support this claim at the moment. But, the users are frustrated with the issue and have called for Samsung to fix the issue. As per some users, they are greeted with a disconnection error as soon as they take the S Pen out from its silo. The issue still persists even if the connect the S Pen again. Oddly, despite the S Pen getting disconnected from the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+. users can still use it to navigate, scroll, and touch the screen.

However, they can’t use Air Actions to control the camera app, volume navigating the photos in the gallery app. From the various reports, it is clear that the problem has been popping up since mid 2020 with no solutions out right now. Unfortunately, the South Korean tech giant has yet to address the issue or offer any fix, so stay tuned for any more updates.

Oppo plans on buildings its own cars: Report

In recent times, it has been rumored that a number of smartphone manufacturers are looking to expand into the automobile industry. Now, Oppo is the latest brand that is apparently seeking to build its own cars.

According to a Xiuxiushai report (Via CarNewsChina), the Chinese tech giant’s CEO and Founder, Tony Chen, will apparently be the one leading this project. As per the source, Chen and him team has spent the last couple of weeks investigating resources, hiring talents from within the industry, and have overall been testing the viability of the project. A person close to the senior official also stated that the company is currently only conducting investigations and discussions on automobile manufacturing and has yet to formally establish the project.

Notably, CEO Tony Chen had said that “Even in car manufacturing, we will focus on areas that OPPO can perform well. If automakers can’t build good cars and OPPO has the strength, we will try it in the future.” This is indicative that the smartphone maker might be still be in internal discussions, deciding whether or not to build its own car or enter the industry in a manner similar to Huawei, which is by providing certain automobile parts and software for smart electric vehicles.

Redmi Watch is launching with Redmi Note 10S on May 13 in India

Recently, Xiaomi confirmed that it will be announcing the Redmi Note 10S smartphone on May 13 in India. A new tweet reveals that the company will be also taking off covers from the Redmi Watch alongside the Note 10S.

The Redmi Watch will be the second wearable device from the brand after the Redmi Band, which is currently selling for Rs 1,399. It appears that Redmi Watch was originally announced back in November 2020 in China.

The specs of the Redmi Watch bear resemblance with the Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite, which debuted in December 2020 in global markets. As far as differences are concerned, the Mi Watch Lite supports more sports modes than the Redmi Watch.

The Mi Watch Lite supports GPS and GLONASS positioning but lacks NFC support. On the other hand, the Redmi Watch lacks GPS but comes with NFC support. The Redmi model is equipped with a built-in voice assistant, which is absent on the Mi Watch Lite as it lacks a microphone. Both watches have a 230mAh battery, but the MI model offers longer battery life of 9 days, whereas the Redmi variant offers 7 days of battery juice. There are high chances that the global Mi Watch Lite will be heading to India with the Redmi Watch moniker.
