Taiwanese tech giant ASUS doesn’t churn out so many models annually but the brand’s models on the ROG and Zenfione series are reputed for their premium build and impressive hardware lineup. The company recently hinted at the launch of the next-gen Zenfone 8 series models slated for May 12.
The Zenfone 8 series has featured in several leaks including the GeekBench listing for a device purported to be the Zenfone 8 Mini. Ahead of the launch, a second ASUS model has appeared on GeekBench, this time around the Zenfone 8. The model appears with the model number ASUS_I004D which corresponds to the model number of the Zenfone 8 spotted on a kernel source code breakdown done by the guys at XDA Developers.
The GeekBench listing shows the Zenfone 8 will also pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset just like the Zenfone 8 Mini. The processor will be paired with 8GB of RAM. Interestingly, the Mini was listed with 16GB RAM. Thus, we expect the Zenfone 8 to also have a 16GB version. The phone will run on the Android 11 operating system out of the box.
Talking of the GeekBench score, the flagship model scored 1,124 points on the single-core test while for the multi-core test, it scored 3,669 points. These scores are consistent with those of the Zenfone 8 Mini which surfaced last week.
Previous leaks tip the Zenfone 8 series to all run on the Snapdragon 888 flagship SoC. They will equally have AMOLED displays with FHD+ resolutions and that support a 120Hz refresh rate. On the camera aspect, the models will pack a 64MP Sony IMX686 main sensor that will team up with an unannounced Sony IMX663 module. The series will also come with support for 30W charging.
New data made available by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners indicate that Apple‘s US sales numbers were driven by the four iPhone 12 series models, which accounted for 61% of the overall sales in the first quarter of 2021. The four iPhone 12 models are the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, and the iPhone 12 Mini.
Apple recently added a purple variant for the iPhone 12
The iPhone 12 series performance data shows that the vanilla iPhone 12 model had the highest sales numbers among the four models. The petite iPhone 12 Mini accounted for the lowest number of units sold within the period. The iPhone 12 Mini has not met its pre-release projections and has not sufficiently caught the fancy of US consumers.
The sales trajectory showed a shift away from the more expensive and newer iPhone 12 series to the less expensive iPhone 11. This resulted in a decline in the average selling price to $847 from its December 2020 average of $873.
The iPhone 11 smartphone retained individual honor as the highest-selling Apple model, as was also the case in Q1 2020. The impressive and hugely popular Phone 11 grossed about 24% of the overall Apple smartphone sales, after a seeming lull in sales in the aftermath of the launch of the iPhone 12 series.
The iPhone 11 has had an outstanding performance against its more endowed successors, including the iPhone SE, iPhone 12 series, and the iPhone XR. It was a mixed bag for the iPhone SE and XR models in the three months ending in March 2021. While the iPhone SE declined from its Q4 2020 market share, the iPhone XR performed better.
Xiaomi Mi 11 was first announced in January this year and has been on sale since then. The sales have been pretty impressive especially as the company released it as a single variant. The Mi 11 Ultra and Mi 11 Pro were only launched recently. Thus, most users who upgraded to Xiaomi’s latest flagship likely own the Mi 11.
However, the flagship device has been plagued with a few minor issues which thankfully affected just a few users. Recently, we reported the burnt motherboards issue lodged by some users in China. A new complaint is now springing up from Mi 11 users in China. Some users have complained that their WiFi module abruptly stopped working for no reason.
The issue apparently affects not just one but a large number of users. But there are several others who say their Mi 11 Wifi module works just fine. This is perhaps why the company is yet to say anything about the issue. The Mi 11 is one of the first models to launch with the Snapdragon 888 chipset and there have been complaints before now of excessive hotness sometimes, high power consumption, and lower battery life.
Several reasons have been adduced by netizens as to why the issue popped up. A widely held view is that it is caused by serious flaws in the motherboard design. While some believe it is a production defect, some say the motherboard may have been affected by the overheating issue which may have soldered the WiFi module to the motherboard. However, a tech geek countered this by saying that chips are soldered using a high-temperature tin with a melting point close to 300 degrees. While the CPU heats up to more than 100 degrees during extreme use, it is unlikely to cause false soldering.
Further, the WiFi and Bluetooth modules are integrated on the same chip and so, if this chip is burned it should affect both the WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity instead of just the WiFi. Thus, this may be a production issue affecting a certain batch of the Mi 11 and if it is really a design issue, Xiaomi may need to recall the batch.
What makes this even more interesting is reports that posts with contents relating to this issue on the official Xiaomi community have begun to be blacklisted and deleted by the moderators. There is precedence to this sort of behavior but that will definitely not kill the matter. We expect Xiaomi to come out with an official statement instead of trying to silence complainants.
We await an official statement from Xiaomi about this issue.
Just like the other color options, this too won’t come with a charger in the box, so you have to purchase one if you don’t have a spare lying around. One of the recommended chargers you can pick up is the Anker Nano (Anker PowerPort III Nano 20W), a 20W USB-C charger that’s no bigger than Apple’s 5W charger. The good thing is that the charger now comes in a colorway that matches the new purple iPhones.
The purple Anker Nano charger seems to be China-exclusive as we didn’t find it on Anker’s US and UK websites. This is also a bundle as it comes with a matching braided USB-C to Lightning cable included in the package (doesn’t come with a cable by default).
The Anker Nano is 50% smaller than Apple’s own iPhone 12 20W USB-C charger. It is also 3x faster than the 5W charger and will charge the iPhone 12 from 0 to 50% in 25 minutes.
The charger is also compatible with older iPhones up to the iPhone 8, all generations of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the 3rd and 4th gen iPad Air, and the 7th and 8th gen iPad. It is also compatible with Samsung’s Galaxy S10, Galaxy S9, and Galaxy S8 series as well as the Pixel 2 and up. Anker says it will also work for the Nintendo Switch but does not support charge-and-Play in TV mode.
The Anker Nano bundle (with cable) is priced at ¥298 (~$46)on Tmall. You can also buy just the power adapter for ¥99 (~$15). While we would love to see Anker make the charger available in matching colors for the other colorways of the iPhone 12 series, the only other color available is Green and it too comes with a matching braided cable.
The Samsung Galaxy A01 was the cheapest Galaxy A series smartphone when it was released. The handset debuted with One UI Core 2.x. More than a year after its launch, the handset has started receiving its first major update.
According to a report by SamMobile, Galaxy A01, an entry-level Samsung smartphone has begun to receive its firm-ever major system update in the form of One UI Core 3.1 based on Android 11. The device was expected to get the update in May or later, however, the company is rolling it out earlier.
Currently, the South Korean tech giant is seeding this update in Russia with firmware version A015FXXU4BUD8. Apart from bringing the Android 11 features and a select few new One UI features, the new build also features April 2021 security patches.
Users of this phone in Russia can head over to Settings > Software update > Download and install to check whether their unit has got the OTA update. If not, they will have to wait a bit further because it is being rolled out in batches.
We can expect Samsung to seed this update in other regions in the coming days. Since the Galaxy A01 is an entry-level smartphone, it is not sure if it will be receiving the Android 12 update in the future. However, we can expect security patches for a while.

At the end of the event, the company also confirmed that the Realme 8 Pro’s Illuminating Yellow model will be available for purchase from April 26 in the country.
There is no difference between the Realme 8 Pro Illuminating Yellow edition and the existing variants in terms of specs and design. The back panel of the phone has a yellow paint job, but the area surrounding the camera island is fluorescent and it can absorb light and glow in the dark.
Realme 8 Pro Illuminating Yellow

iQOO will be announcing the iQOO 7 5G and IQOO 7 Legend 5G smartphones on April 26 in India. The former is said to be a rebranded version of iQOO Neo5, which was announced in February in China. The iQOO 7 Legend 5G was also announced in China with the iQOO 7 moniker in January in China. A screenshot of the contest related to the iQOO 7 5G has inadvertently revealed its pricing.
iQOO India Country Director Gagan Arora recently claimed that the iQOO 7 Legend 5G will be priced under Rs 40,000 (~$531)v. Since the iQOO 7 5G for India is less powerful the iQOO 7 Legend 5G, the former is expected to carry a cheaper price tag.
The screenshot suggests that the iQOO 7 5G may cost Rs 34,999 (~$465) in the country. ASUS has officially confirmed that it will be announcing the ZenFone 8 on May 12. A landing page with a countdown for the launch event is now live on ASUS’s website. While the microsite hints the arrival of a single model, reports have claimed that the Taiwanese manufacturer may announce as many as three ZenFone 8 series smartphones.
ASUS says that the ZenFone 8 will be “big on performance” and “compact in size.” Past reports have claimed that one of the ZenFone 8 series will be a compact-sized flagship and it will be called the ZenFone 8 Mini.
Recent reports have claimed that the ZenFone 8 Mini has is codenamed as Sake and its model number is SUS_ZS590KS / ASUS_I006D. The ZenFone 8 Mini is expected to arrive with a 5.92-inch OLED screen that offers an FHD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. It will be fueled by the Snapdragon 888 chipset.

However, its TÜV SÜD certification revealed that it may carry support for 30W rapid charging. The ZenFone 8 Mini may feature a Sony IMX686 64-megapixel camera and a new Sony IMX663 camera. The device is also expected to feature a Cirrus CS35L45 amplifier.
The second model in the lineup is said to be codenamed Picasso and it has an ASUS_ZS672KS / ASUS_I004D model number. This model is expected to come with specs like a 6.67-inch OLED screen with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 888, 16 GB of RAM, 64-megpaixel (Sony IMX686) + 12.2-megapixel (Sony IMX363) + 8-megapixel telephoto (OmniVision) triple camera system and a 24-megapixel (OV24B1Q) selfie camera, and Pixel i6 visual processor.
The third model in the series could be codenamed VODKA and it has an ASUS_Z5675KW / ASUS_I007D model number. It is expected to come with specs like a 6.7-inch display and Snapdragon 888. Hopefully, ASUS and the rumor mill will spill more information on the ZenFone 8 series before the official announcement.
Huami launched two very affordable smartwatches for sports lovers and casual users in the global market: Amazfit Bip U and Amazfit Bip U Pro. The watches come in a square shape like the Apple Watch, but they are offered at just a fraction of its price. Despite that, they offer a lot of features, including a few ones you can usually find on very expensive models. If you are wondering which one to choose between the vanilla Amazfit Bip U and the Amazfit Bip U Pro, you are in the right place. In this specs comparison, we will describe these two smartwatches and tell you the differences between their specifications. Given that there are only a few differences between these two models, we will focus mostly on describing all of their features in order to give you a complete panorama of their potentialities.
As mentioned above and as you can see from the images, Amazfit Bip U and Amazfit Bip U Pro are square-shaped and they have the same design. They come with a plastic body and a silicone strap and they are waterproof up to 5 ATM, so you can use them for swimming. The build quality is not amazing since they are not built with premium materials, but they are very sturdy to be just affordable smartwatches. They come with a physical key placed on the right side and dimensions of 40.9 x 35.5 x 11.4 mm for a weight of just 31 grams if you include the strap.
Display
The color displays of the Amazfit Bip U and Amazfit Bip U Pro are the same, just like the design. We are talking about a square-shaped panel with a diagonal of 1.43 inches, a resolution of 320 x 302 pixels, and the IPS LCD technology. While they are not excellent as OLED displays in terms of color reproduction, they still offer a very nice viewing experience and decent visibility outdoor. The displays have a 72% NTSC coverage and 2.5D glass with an anti-fingerprint coating.
Specs & Software
There is no much to say about the hardware department since these smartwatches do not feature an advanced operating system like Wear OS and they do not need high-end hardware to run smoothly. Amazfit Bip U and Amazfit Bip U Pro run the proprietary operating system RTOS you can find on all the Amazfit smartwatches. But with the Amazfit Bip U Pro, you get a very interesting additional feature: Alexa support. It has an integrated microphone allowing the use of the Amazon vocal assistant. Amazfit Bip U and Bip U Pro are able to track more than 60 sports and activities: with the Pro variant, you get an additional mode allowing you to track open water swimming.
Sensors and connectivity
Amazfit Bip U and Amazfit Bip U Pro can be connected to the phone with Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity and the proprietary Zepp app which is one of the best wearable apps out there. They come with an accurate heart rate sensor (BioTracker 2 PPG), accelerometer, and gyroscope. With the Amazfit Bip U Pro, you also get GPS to better track your physical activity with geolocalization and a geomagnetic sensor. Unfortunately, the vanilla Amazfit Bip U does not have a GPS module. Further, none of the smartwatches has a SpO2 sensor, so they can not track blood oxygen levels.
The Amazfit Bip U and the Amazfit Bip U Pro are powered by a battery with a 230 mAh capacity. The battery is able to offer up to 9 days of battery life (but it is way shorter if you use GPS on the Pro variant) and it takes about two hours for a full charge.
Amazfit Bip U and Amazfit Bip U Pro: Price
The prices of the Amazfit Bip U and the Amazfit Bip U Pro vary depending on the market. In Europe, you can currently find the Amazfit Bip U for about €50 / $60, while the Amazfit Bip U Pro costs about €65 / $79 thanks to online street prices (in India, the Amazfit Bip U Pro carries a starting price of $68 at the actual change). They are both very affordable, but which one should you go for? Given that the price difference is minimal, we recommend going for the Amazfit Bip U Pro in order to get Alexa support and GPS. But if you do not care about these features and you just need a basic smartwatch to track your activity, Amazfit Bip U remains an alternative that makes sense. Just note that these smartwatches do not feature a SpO2 sensor to track the blood oxygen level: if you need this feature, you would better go for the Xiaomi Mi Band 6 which sells at a similar price (note that in this case, you won’t get the same advanced watch faces as the Amazfit since it is a smartband).
New smartphones come out each day as if there is no tomorrow. However, as you know the Android Tablet market is stagnant with a little or few new Tablet releases in a month. Despite this, Blackview has tasted success with its first tablet Blackview Tab 8 which was launched nearly half a year ago. Following the footprint, the company will soon launch a new Tablet dubbed Blackview Tab 9.
Blackview Tab 9 has a decent 7480mAh battery for a tablet standard. It’s rated to provide 6 hours of video time, 6 hours of non-stop gaming, 7.5 hours of web browsing, 38 hours of music, or 30 hours of calling. This means a powerhouse that will deliver all your needs on the go without the worry of needing it to be recharged quite often.
If you’re unaware, Tab 8 was praised for the build quality and its durable structure. The Tab 9 takes it to another level, thanks to the superb craftsmanship and a unibody design made out of aluminum. The good thing, it’s just 8.9 mm in thickness, so you can imagine how comfortable it’d be to hold. According to Blackview, it was able to make the Tab 9 sturdy and durable without adding much to its cost despite using high-quality aluminum particularly seen on high-end devices.
Blackview has been generous to offer additional protection by bundling a FREE tablet leather case. Yes, the Tab 9 comes with a tablet case to give full protection for the tablet, which will double as a stand as well.
The Blackview Tab 9 runs Android 10 on top of Balckview’s custom skin known as Doke OS_P 01. Indeed it comes with quite useful features such as Dark Mode, Gesture Navigation, Parental Controls, etc. Under the hood, the Tab 9 boasts an octa-core chipset with 4G RAM. The Tab 9 offers enhanced graphics and performance thanks to the native GPU of the SoC. Primary storage is 64GB in capacity which, in case if you find it not enough, can be expanded up to 128GB using an external microSD.
If you find the Blackview Tab 9 interesting you may find more details fromhere.
