Redmi K30 Ultra Bluetooth SIG certified; Could be there an international variant?

Earlier this month, Xiaomi announced the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra and Redmi K30 Ultra smartphones in China. Soon after the launch, a Xiaomi spokesperson said that Xiaomi currently has no plans to launch the Mi 10 Ultra and Redmi K30 Ultra outside China. Leakster Mukul Sharma has spotted a couple of Redmi phones including Redmi K30 Ultra that are currently available only in China in the list of Google supported devices. At the same time, the Redmi K30 Ultra has received approval from the Bluetooth SIG authority. The listings do not really reveal that they are heading to global markets, but there are slim chances that some of these devices may debut outside China.

The Redmi 10X with M2004J7AC model number, Redmi 10X Pro with M2004J7BC model number, Redmi K30 Ultra with M2006J10C model number, and Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra with M2007J1SC cane now be seen in Google supported devices list. The global variants of Xiaomi phones are supposed to have a letter ‘G’ at the end of the model numbers. However, the handsets that have appeared in the list of Google supported devices have letter ‘C’ at the end of their model numbers suggest that they are Chinese variants.

Meanwhile, the Bluetooth SIG body has also approved the Chinese variant of the Redmi K30 Ultra. At present, it is difficult to say now whether the Redmi K30 Ultra and other phones mentioned in this post are heading to global markets. The above listings show that the company is currently testing the Chinese variants, which suggests that it may test the international variants later.

After the launch of Mi 10 Ultra and Redmi K30 Ultra, Daniel D, the Senior Product Marketing Manager and Global Spokesperson for Xiaomi did not entirely deny their global launch. He had tweeted, “For the moment, we don’t have plans for official global channels, but stay tuned for future news!” Since the global launch is not entirely ruled out, it is advisable to wait for further reports to see whether Redmi K30 Ultra or other phones will be released in markets outside China.

Redmi 9A Indian launch set for September 2; first sale on September 4

The Redmi family is about to get bigger in India. Just a week after launching the Redmi 9, Redmi India is set to announce the entry-level Redmi 9A.

Redmi 9A launch date

The manufacturer has set Wednesday, September 2, as the launch date for the smartphone and has also announced that it will go on sale on Friday, September 4. Redmi India is also going to announce a new pair of wired earphones on the same day. So if you will be picking up the device when it launches, you may also want to grab a pair of new earphones as there won’t be one in the box.

The Redmi 9A will have a 6.53-inch HD+ display which is bigger than that of its predecessor but it will keep the waterdrop notch. There is an Helio G25 processor under the hood powering the device. While the international variant has 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, there is a chance the Indian version will have a different configuration.

The phone will have a single 13MP camera on its back and a 5MP selfie camera. Just like the Redmi 8A, it will have a 5000mAh battery capacity, but disappointingly, there is no 18W charging this time around and the USB-C port has been swapped for a MicroUSB one. The Redmi 9A will run MIUI 12 based on Android 10 out of the box.

The Redmi 9A launched in Europe for €99 (~INR 8,625) but it should be cheaper in India since the Redmi 9 which has better specs is priced at INR 8,999 (~€103) for the base model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

Poll of The Week: Do you still use memory cards?

In recent times phone storage has become really affordable and manufacturers have become so generous such that even budget phones like the Redmi 9 (Indian version) come with 128GB of storage. Notwithstanding, a lot of manufacturers still include the option for storage expansion even on variants with more storage than buyers will need.

Poll - featured

For this week’s poll, we want to know if you still use memory cards, that is if your device supports it. Do you still pop in a MicroSD card (or NM card as the case may be) irrespective of the storage capacity of your device or is external storage now a thing of the past? Do take the poll and also post a comment about what you think of external storage.

Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro receives Bluetooth certification

Redmi India teases new wired earphones; to launch on September 2

It is no news that Redmi and Realme are close rivals in the smartphone industry. Almost a week ago, Realme announced a pair of wired earphones in India called the Realme Buds Classic. Now, Redmi India has released a teaser video that hints at the launch of its own wired earphones.

The 23-second video was posted on Twitter today with the hashtag #WiredForEverything. In the video, we can make out the outline of the earbuds and the 3.5mm connector which is angled at 90°.

The earbuds have silicone tips that should provide passive noise cancelation, unlike the Realme Buds Classic which has an open-fit design like Apple’s EarPods. The video also hints at the new earphones coming in red and blue colorways when they launch on Wednesday, September 2.

Ishan Agarwal, the teenage Indian leaker has also provided more details about the earbuds. According to him, the earphones will be sold as the Redmi Earphones. He also adds that the earphones will be Hi-Res Audio certified with 10mm drivers. It will also have a metallic body and will be pretty lightweight.

There is no info with respect to the price yet but Redmi will want to match the price of the Realme Buds Classic which has 14.2mm drivers and is priced at INR 399 (~$5.46). They may also keep the INR 399 price tag of the Mi Earphones Basic that was announced back in 2018 but is now listed as out of stock on the Mi India site.

Render of Samsung Wireless Charger that can charge three devices at a go leaks

Samsung first launched the Wireless Charger Duo in 2018 and the product was well-received. Two years after, the tech giant is now planning to introduce a new model which is designed to charge three devices at the same time. A render of the wireless charger has now leaked online thanks to noted tipster Evan Blass.

The Samsung Wireless Charger Pad Trio as it will be called comes with a USB-C port and may likely ship with a fast-charging cable and USB-C power adapter. The charger may also feature support for the Qi wireless charging standard just like its predecessor.

The Wireless Charger Pad Trio will likely offer 15W charging support similar to what obtains on the Wireless Charger Duo. Although the render shos a black variant, Samsung may also include a while coloured variant.

The leakage of this high-resolution render is an indication that the company may take the wraps off the product pretty soon but there is no word yet on the launch date. Samsung is scheduled to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 2 on  September 1st. The company may also announce this new accessory too.

Samsung Galaxy M51 page goes live in Germany; on pre-order for €360

The Galaxy M51 is a new smartphone from Samsung that is scheduled to launch in India soon. Surprisingly, the device is now available for pre-order in Germany. The page for the phone is also live on the official Samsung Germany website.

Galaxy M51

The Galaxy M51 has a 6.7-inch Infinity-O Super AMOLED display. There is a hole in the upper part of the screen for the 32MP selfie camera and above it is a small grille for the speaker. The device has a glossy back that is home to four cameras and buyers will be able to choose between purchasing the phone in Black or White.

The device has an octa-core processor, and as is typical of Samsung, the chipset is not specified. However, we are pretty sure it is a 4G processor. The Galaxy M51 is available in only one configuration and that is with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There is a MicroSD card slot that allows you to add an additional 512GB of storage.

Galaxy M51 Cameras

The rear cameras include a 5MP f/2.4 depth camera, a 64MP f/1.8 main camera, a 12MP f/2.2 camera with a 123° field of view, and a 5MP f/2.4 macro camera. There are lots of camera features including the familiar Live Focus, panorama, and macro mode.

Galaxy M51 battery

The major highlight of the Galaxy M51 is its massive 7000mAh battery capacity and there is 25W fast charging too so you can recharge and get back to gaming as fast as possible. Even though the phone has an AMOLED display, Samsung has opted for a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The phone also runs Android 10 with One UI Core on top.

The Samsung site says the device is available for pre-order for a price tag of €360.01 and the estimated shipping date at checkout is September 11.

Xiaomi to launch Mi Watch Revolve and Mi Band 5 in India soon

The Mi Watch Color is a smartwatch with a round dial that launched in China last year. A few months ago, it was revealed that Xiaomi may announce it globally under the name Mi Watch Revolve. Now, new details say it is heading to India soon and it will come along with the Mi Band 5.

Xiaomi Watch Color colorways
Xiaomi Mi Watch Color will launch as the Mi Watch Revolve in India

The info was reported by 91Mobiles who cites the teenage leaker Ishan Agarwal as their source. They also speculate the watch will cost about INR 6,000 (~$80) since it launched in China for ¥599 (~$87). However, we believe it will sell for higher.

The watch will most likely be imported, and with taxes and other costs factored in, a higher price tag than what it sells for in China is a no-brainer. Our guess is that the Mi Watch Revolve will sell for nothing less than INR 8,000 (~$109) when it lands in India.

When Xiaomi announces the watch in India, it will face competition from Huami’s Amazfit line of watches, most especially the Amazfit GTR which is currently priced at INR 9,999 (~$137).

Mi Smart Band 5

Xiaomi is also expected to launch the Mi Smart Band 5/Mi Band 5 in India. The watch already launched in Europe in July for a price tag of €39.99. The Mi Smart Band 5 comes with significant improvements over its predecessor such as a larger display, support for more workout modes, a more accurate PPG heart rate sensor, and a new charger that doesn’t require you to remove the capsule from the strap.

We expect both launches to happen in September. The Mi Smart Band 4 launched on Tuesday, September 17 last year in India, so September 15 seems like a possible date for this year’s announcement.

Xiaomi Mi 9 SE gets MIUI 12 update in China

The Mi 9 SE is the latest Xiaomi smartphone to get the MIUI 12 update. The global variants of the upper mid-range phone which was announced last year already received the MIUI 12 update. Now, it is the turn of the China variant.

The update is 833MB in size according to a screenshot shared by ITHome and it comes with version number V12.0.2.0.QFBCNXM. The Chinese blog reports that while the update brings some significant improvements, there are still some bugs according to those who have installed it.

Mi 9 SE MIUI 12 update

MIUI 12 brings a revamped user interface, new animation engine, new permission settings, and more.

The Mi 9 SE has a 5.97-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch. There is a fingerprint scanner under the display and the notch is home to a 20MP selfie camera. The device has a Snapdragon 712 processor under the hood that is paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of non-expandable storage.

On the back is a 48MP main camera + 8MP ultrawide camera + 13MP telephoto camera setup and under the glass back is a 3070mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging.

This year, Xiaomi didn’t release a Mi 10 SE which was disappointing which meant folks couldn’t pick up a smaller sized Mi 10 with watered-down specs and a more affordable price tag.

Unboxing video confirms design and specifications of the Realme 7

The Realme 7 series is set for a September 3 launch date in India. Despite still being a few days away, there have been numerous leaks including the spec sheet of both devices. Now an unboxing video of the Realme 7 has been posted on YouTube and it confirms what we already know.

Realme 7 and Realme 7 Pro cameras

The video was posted by the Vietnamese YouTube channel “Mix with remix”. While Realme has not yet announced the phone will launch in Vietnam, it should be.

The video shows the Realme 7 will ship in a rectangular box with Realme’s signature bright yellow color. There is a “7” written on the top of the box in large black font while the manufacturer’s name is written in a smaller font at the bottom.

The back of the box has some key specs printed on it such as a 64MP Sony sensor, quad cameras, Helio G95 gaming processor, 30W Dart Charge, 5000mAh battery capacity, and a 90Hz Ultra Smooth Display. The unit inside the box is a gray unit and it comes with a white 30W Dart Charger, a USB-A to USB-C cable, and a .

The Realme 7 has a punch-hole that is placed at the top left corner for the selfie camera. It also has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner as the display is LCD and not AMOLED. The back is home to the 64MP quad-camera setup housed in a black housing along with the LED flash. At the bottom of the phone are an audio jack, a microphone, a USB-C port, and a speaker grille.

When booted up, the About Phone page shows the device has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It also runs Android 10 out of the box. Alongside the 64MP primary camera, there is an 8MP ultrawide angle camera, a 2MP Black and White sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. The video also shows the Realme 7 has a triple card slot so you can use two SIM cards and a MicroSD card at the same time.

MediaTek is yet to announce the Helio G95 processor that powers the device. However, it is clear that Realme will be the first manufacturer to launch a phone powered by the processor.

Realme aims to sell 100 million units of smartphones annually by expanding into more markets

It has been only 2 years since realme entered the smartphone market. But within a short period of time, it has become the fastest-growing smartphone brand globally with a presence in 61 countries and regions. Li Bingzhong  (Sky Li), the brand’s founder and CEO shared the breakthroughs of his company along with their next target on Weibo.

Realme Logo Featured

The CEO of realme shared a letter on his Weibo profile in the form of an image. It goes into detail regarding the achievements gained by the brand in the last two years.

In his letter, the company executive mentions that realme continued to be the fastest-growing smartphone brand in four consecutive quarters. Above all, it ranked number 7 seven globally in the last quarter in terms of market share.

Sky Li says that people questioned if there’s a place for a new smartphone brand when realme was established. But his brand company exceeded expectations by proving that new brands do have a place in the market.

He added that in the next two years, the brand will focus more on AIoT and expanding its presence in more markets. The executive wishes his company to become a leading player in almost all regions such as South Asia, Southeast Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America, China, and Russia.

Last but not least, realme aims to sell 100 million units of smartphones annually in order to sit beside mainstream brands.

Honor may launch a smartwatch similar to the Huawei Watch Fit

Honor has confirmed that it has a new smartwatch on the way. The wearable will launch as the Honor Watch GS Pro on September 4 at IFA 2020. However, that isn’t the only smartwatch we should expect from the Huawei-owned company.

Honor Square Watch

The president of Honor, George Zhao, asked on Weibo a few days ago if folks prefer round dials or square dials. The top executive’s post is actually a quote of another post that was made by the official Honor Life Weibo account. This original post includes a long image, part of which we have cut out and added below.

Honor Square Watch teaser

As you can see, the image shows two hands holding each other. On one wrist is a watch with a round dial and on the other wrist is a watch with a square/rectangular dial. The latter has a display similar to that of the recently announced Huawei Watch Fit.

Honor doesn’t have a watch with that design and we want to believe it is teasing the arrival of its first watch with a square dial. However, it will most likely be Honor’s version of the Huawei Watch Fit. This is not the first time Honor will launch a product similar to that announced by its parent company. And as is the tradition, Honor’s version usually costs less.

The Huawei Watch Fit has a 1.64-inch 280 x 456 AMOLED display with a 70% screen-to-body ratio. There are lots of customizable watch faces including AOD ones. The watch has 12 animated exercises built-in and can track up to 11 different sports. There is also a custom workout mode. The watch also has GPS, a heart rate sensor, sleep tracking, SpO2 detection, and menstrual cycle tracking. Huawei claims its new watch has a battery life of 10 days with typical usage and has put a price tag of 399 AED (~$110) on it.

LG Wing with rotating secondary display tipped to retail for around $1,000

Instead of pursuing foldables like Samsung and Huawei, LG has been releasing devices with support for a dual-screen accessory. Now, it is taking this implementation a notch higher by integrating a secondary rotating (twisting) display at the back of the phone. This device is known as LG Wing and it had leaked multiple times in the past few days. Now, its price leaks as well.

The upcoming LG Wing is one of the bizarre smartphones of 2020. This is not the first time the company is doing something unique. A few years back, it tested waters with the concept of modularity. The result was half-baked “LG G5 and Friends”, which did not pan out very well.

The Wing is trying to fill the shoes left by G5 but will it succeed for the asking price of around $1,000? Yes, that’s the price tipped by the source of XDA Developers. It will be launching this fall in the US for the above-mentioned retail price.

With most flagship smartphones now starting at $1,000, there seems to be nothing wrong with the price tag of LG’s unique handset. But the question is how useful that secondary display will be? One of the leaked videos showcases the rotating screen to display the stock music app and call notification when the main screen is in use for navigation. Whereas, in the second video, we can notice the secondary panel in use for the in-game map while playing Gameloft’s Asphalt on the main screen.

These are only two examples of its use case but we are certain there could be much more. But will the developers take interest in optimizing their apps for an LG smartphone, considering the fact the company is not a major global player?

Also, it is worth noting that it is reported to feature mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G and not Snapdragon 865 like any other handsets in this range. Anyway, we will know the future of this unique LG phone when it will go official in the coming weeks.

OnePlus staff reveals OnePlus Nord will not launch in China

The OnePlus Nord launched in India and Europe. While OnePlus did explicitly say that the phone will not be sold in North America, it said nothing about a launch in China.

Yesterday, it was reported that the phone may be launching in China soon, but a OnePlus official says otherwise. The news comes from ITHome who reported that a system development engineer at OnePlus has revealed that the OnePlus Nord will not be sold in China.

OnePlus Nord China

The OnePlus Nord is a mid-range 5G smartphone with a 6.44-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a pill-shaped punch hole for 32MP + 8MP dual selfie cameras and a 90Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood of the phone is a Snapdragon 765G processor with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It also has 48MP + 8MP + 5MP + 2MP quad cameras, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and a 4115mAh battery that charges from empty to 70% in 30 minutes. The phone also has Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, and dual SIM support.

OnePlus is recruiting accessory testers

OnePlus has been in the news a lot lately, mainly as a result of its upcoming mid-range phones under the Nord line. Now, the manufacturer has announced it is recruiting testers for OnePlus accessories.

OnePlus Accessory Tester

According to the info on the official OnePlus Forums, they are recruiting folks to become official OnePlus Accessory Testers. Those selected will get the chance to test at least three products over the course of a year.

To become a OnePlus Accessory Tester, you have to post a review of an accessory you own in the Accessories subforum. This is not a review you have posted before and it should be written by you. The rules say only one entry is accepted per user and entries will be accepted until September 15. You can read more about the requirements here.

Accessories have become an additional source of revenue for phone manufacturers including OnePlus in recent years. However, the need to recruit testers may mean OnePlus is planning to take this aspect of its business more seriously.

We presume OnePlus’s plan is to begin making accessories not only for its own phones but for those from other manufacturers too. Hopefully, power banks are some of these products. Earlier this year, Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus, posted a tweet hinting at the launch of a power bank with fast charging. It has been six months now and we are yet to see OnePlus’s power bank but we have a feeling it will arrive soon along with other products.
