Powerbeats Pro to get four new summer colors soon

The Powerbeats Pro launched in April 2019 and went on sale the following month for $250. The earbuds are considered as a better alternative to the AirPods, thanks to having better battery life, ear-hooks for a better fit, and better resistance to sweat. Originally announced in four colors, it has been reported that Apple will add four more colorways soon. Images of the new color variants have now surfaced.

The Powerbeats Pro’s original colors are Black, Ivory, Moss, and Navy. The new colors, which are Lava Red, Cloud Pink, Glacier Blue, and Spring Yellow, are much brighter and should be popular among the younger generation.

Apple is expected to announce the new colors soon. Winfuture.de reports that availability should begin June 1 but may vary with respect to region.

The Powerbeats Pro has the same Apple H1 chip in the AirPods for better connectivity. The battery life for each earbud is 9 hours and it goes up to more than 24 hours with the case. Charging is via a lightning port and there is no support for wireless charging.

The new colorways will retail for $249.95/€249.95 when they go on sale.

Xiaomi launches its 10W Universal Wireless Car Charger, offers 10W wireless charging

Xiaomi has just launched its new 10W Universal Wireless Car Charger. It is capable of fast charging wirelessly up to 10W and is priced at 129 Yuan (roughly 18 US Dollars), so those interested can check out the product on the Xiaomi Youpin platform.

The new wireless car charger supports various devices that are compatible with the wireless charging technology and standard. This includes the Chinese tech giant’s 2020 flagship series, the Mi 10, and Mi 10 Pro. However, the device isn’t limited to just Xiaomi phones as it can also charge the Samsung Galaxy S10 and even the new iPhone SE 2020.

Xiaomi

The 10W Universal Wireless Car Charger from Xiaomi has an effective charging range of about 4mm and can even charge smartphones that have a protective case over them. Although, this is more effective without the case or probably thinner ones preferably. The gadget features an electric induction clamp arms on either side, over the conventional slip style, to keep the phone in place.

Furthermore, the car charger sports a built in infrared sensor and motor, which allows the device to automatically detect when a smartphone is in proximity to tighten or loosen around the device. These clip arms have a maximum range of 81.5mm after being completely open, allowing convenience and ease in one handed operations while driving, which is quite crucial.

The Xiaomi wireless car charger also helps in navigation as it solves the problem of holding the phone or charging it via a USB cable once in the car. One can simply attach it to the 10W wireless charger with one hand and glance at directions with ease. The device is primarily made of a glass panel, in which the charging panel is housed. This also helps in heat dissipation, while the overall design is minimalistic and clean.

Honor confirms it will use MediaTek 5G chips for future models as well

Honor, the Huawei subsidiary, has just launched the Honor X10. The smartphone is a mid range 5G handset and sported the HiSilicon Kirin 820 SoC. After the launch conference, Zhao Ming, President of Honor’s Business unit, revealed that the company will now be looking towards MediaTek‘s 5G processors for its upcoming and future smartphone launches.

Honor
Zhao Ming, President of Honor’s Business unit

In the post launch interview, the senior executive stated that the Chinese company has had good relations with MediaTek, and seeks to strengthen this cooperation for the foreseeable future. Zhao said that while the Honor X10 featured the company’s proprietary Kirin 820 SoC, the future of the processor family in Honor smartphones is uncertain and that future models will likely ship with 5G chipsets from MediaTek.

The President believes that 5G networking is the next step towards a new generation of smartphones and that MediaTek with its affordable lineup has helped in bringing the barrier of entry lower than ever before. In other words, the chipmaker has helped make the newer and faster bandwidth more popular with its Dimensity chip series. For those unaware, recent sanctions from the US government has cut off chip supply from TSMC to Huawei, causing the company to look into other alternatives.

Furthermore, Zhao Ming said that MediaTek has been a partner of Honor on numerous occasions for previously launched products and that the future will see wider adoption of their chipsets across the company’s smartphone offerings. The official also stated that these chips will also be directly optimized for Honor’s custom OS and other features to offer the best and consistent user experience to its customers.

EMUI 10.1 Stable Huawei P30 Pro MatePad Pro

The EMUI 10.1 stable update for Huawei P30, P30 Pro, and MatePad Pro is limited to China for now. Interested users can register in the Hauwei Club app to get early access to the stable build. Google Pixel 4a could be launching on July 13

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Google canceled the Google I/O 2020 event that was supposed to take place this month. The Google Pixel 4a was expected to go official at the event. With the event canceled, the rumor mill speculated that it may debut later this month or June. New information shared Jon Prosser who is known for Apple leaks has claimed that the Google Pixel 4a will be launching in July.

Prosser tweeted that the Google Pixel 4a launch event will be held on July 13. He revealed that the device is ready for shipping, but its arrival has been reportedly postponed to June for reasons best known to the search engine giant. Prosser speculates that the decision has been taken by the company based on market analysis.

He added that the Pixel 4a does not support 5G networks. This was already known since the rumor mill has revealed in the past that the device will be featuring the Snapdragon 730 which is not a 5G-ready chipset. The phone is expected to arrive in Just Black and Barely Blue color editions. This suggests that there will not be a white version of the phone. Also, Google is unlikely to launch Pixel 4a XL alongside Pixel 4a.

US regulators want to plug loopholes that will allow Huawei to get US chips even after the ban

Earlier this week, it was revealed that US regulators are open to making changes that will help in fixing loopholes within the new sanctions that may allow Huawei to still receive US chipsets.

Huawei
Huawei’s Kirin chipsets are manufactured by TSMC

For those unaware, Huawei had its mobile processor from TSMC cut off earlier this month by the US Department of Commerce. While this was done to hinder the company’s operations within the US, it also pressurized the company to conform to American regulations. At the moment, the Chinese tech giant will require special licenses to acquire semiconductors made overseas but utilized US made technology.

In other words, TSMC is no longer taking orders from Huawei. However, a loophole of this rule is that this rule only covers chips designed by Huawei (HiSilicon Kirin). These do not include shipments that are sent directly to Huawei’s customers, something certain industry lawyers see as a potential loophole. Thus, US regulators are aiming at plugging this gap within the new set of regulations.

Huawei

According to the US State Department, the new rule will “give us a great deal more information upon which to base export control decisions as we move forward and try to find the right answer to these challenges including by adapting, if we need to, if Huawei tries to work around our rules in some way,” adding that these steps are “necessary,” as the Trump administration looks at the consumer product maker as a security threat.

OnePlus, Realme, Meizu and Black Shark joins P2P File Transfer Alliance

Last year, Chinese smartphone makers Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo had announced an alliance for a cross-device file transfer protocol. Now, four more smartphone manufacturers have joined this alliance — OnePlus, Realme, Meizu and Black Shark.

With these four smartphone brands joining the list, over 400 million users are expected to get benefit of this file transfer service. So now, users of these smartphone companies will soon be able to transfer files among each other quickly without need for third-party apps.

P2P File Transfer Alliance

For those who are unaware, the peer-to-peer (P2P) cross-device file transfer protocol allows user to directly and easily share files without need for any of the third-party applications. Think of it as a feature similar to Apple‘s AirDrop for Android smartphones.

Although the file transfer alliance was announced last year, the companies were working on the technology and the official rollout of the feature began earlier this year in February. The feature is soon expected to be available for these four newly joined brands.

The technology uses Wi-Fi P2P and thus allows users to transfer files at speeds of up to 20MB/s. The Wi-Fi P2P feature doesn’t interfere with the Wi-Fi functionality of the devices in any way. The protocol also supports a wide range of file formats including photos, videos, and documents.

While several smartphone brands have their own file transfer service, there was no unified method for cross-brand file transfers. With so many China-based phone makers joining the alliance, Android users will finally get a seamless file transfer feature, at least for those who are using phones from any of these brands.

Now, a Huawei exec from the US has responded to this crisis, revealing a two way negative effect of this move.

Oppo to launch the Ace2 EVA Transparent Edition based on the iconic Anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion

Earlier today (21st May 2020), an upcoming Oppo Ace2 special edition was spotted again on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website. The device was the Ace2 EVA Transparent Edition, which is based on the popular anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. Oppo

The limited variant of the Oppo smartphone was first shared by @i冰宇宙 on his blog that revealed that the Ace2 EVA Transparent Edition was meant to commemorate the upcoming Evangelion movie. This movie was the final part of a 4 film series that retold the events of the iconic anime and was scheduled for release in June 2020. Unfortunately, this has since been delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

As the name suggests, the special Oppo Ace2 variant features a unique design. On the back, one can observe the nostalgic patterns and design that is a nod to the anime and its EVAs (giant human controlled mechas/robots). The rear panel is mostly covered in a black background over which angular circuitry designs run across the back and with the series logo above the Chinese company’s own brand name.

Oppo

In recent times, smartphone vendors are increasingly adopting various and popular cinematics IPs for new launches. These handsets are generally limited edition and are said to be quite popular in certain markets. The Oppo Ace2 was launched back in April 2020 and is the flagship entry from the tech giant. Thus, it is no surprise the company would wish to attract consistent sales with a special edition.

Huawei Celia voice assistant is now live on P40 series

Huawei introduced ‘Celia’, its own voice assistant at the launch of Huawei P40 series with EMUI 10.1. However, it did not make it to the retail units. But now the company’s homegrown assistant is finally here, albeit, it is limited to certain regions for now.

Huawei Celia Voice Assistant

Due to the ban imposed by the US government on Huawei, the Chinese telecom had to rethink its smartphone division. It introduced Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) along with AppGallery to fill the void left by Google Mobiles Services (GMS) and Play Store.

At the Huawei P40 series launch event, the company also announced EMUI 10.1. The latest version of the brand’s mobile software also included ‘Celia’, its new voice assistant for international markets.

For the unaware, Huawei already has a voice assistant called Xiaoyi in China. It is found on the company’s smart speakers like AI Speaker 2, smartphones, and more. We believe the new Celia voice assistant could be based on Xiaoyi itself.

Having said that, if you own a Huawei P40, P40 Pro or P40 Pro Plus, you can use Celia by changing your locale to either UK, France, Spain, Chile, Mexico or Colombia. That is because the assistant is only limited to these regions as of now.

As far as languages are concerned, it can understand English (UK), Spanish, and French for now. Since Celia is intended as a replacement for Google Assitant, its UI is similar to the latter. Further, it also supports HiVision AI Lens and AI touch-shopping.

The Celia voice assistant is expected to be available on multiple Huawei and Honor smartphones with EMUI 10.1 update in the coming weeks.
