Realme becomes one of the Top 10 OEMs Globally

Realme’s growth has been pretty astonishing so far, especially since it is just over a year old. Within this time span, it has grown from a small-time sub-brand of OPPO to one of the most sought out smartphone makers in the budget and mid-range segment. And turns out, it has got sales figures to back its popularity. According to counterpoint’s Q2-2019 Market Monitor report, Realme has climbed into the top 10 smartphone OEM club.

Realme 5 Pro
Realme 5 Pro

For a company that came into existence just last year, this is indeed a tremendous achievement. However, this isn’t entirely surprising. Realme had announced earlier this month that they had shipped more than 10 million smartphones worldwide in a matter of 14 months.

Editor’s Pick: MediaTek Helio G90T vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G: Gaming Chipsets Compared!

The company’s Realme 3 Pro that was announced back in April offers good value for money in the mid-range market, taking on the Redmi Note 7 Pro. The company has plans to ramp up its progress in India and China with additional models in the next few months. The brand has already released the Realme 5 Pro which is its first quad-camera smartphone! Then there’s the upcoming Realme XT that will feature the Samsung GW1 64MP sensor directly taking on the Redmi Note 8 Pro with the same sensor.

With so many powerful models incoming for the mid-range segment, the company seems to have some really strong plans to take on the Redmi brand in the budget and the mid-range market. If Realme can grab even a small chunk of this market from Redmi, it is all set to sell a few more million smartphone units by the end of the year.

How to reduce eye strain while using smartphone?

Smartphones are getting bigger with the display covering almost entire front portion. Displays on the latest smartphones are vibrant, accurate, and beautiful longing us to spend more time in front of it. Nonetheless, we’re ignoring the fact about how much strain we impart to our gifted eyes. Since the smartphone has become inevitable in our daily life, it won’t be viable to say no to smartphones. However, there are some steps which you may follow to keep your eyes happy while viewing.

smartphones eye care

Here, we’ll go through certain ways by which strain on eyes can be reduced while using smartphones. As a quick disclaimer, by following the below-given habits or actions, it doesn’t mean you can keep yourself in front of a smartphone for eternity or like that. Anything in excess is poisonous, and the mantra should be in our mind always.

That being said, let’s dig into some healthy habits and changes that we could adopt or do for the betterment of our eyes.

Ways to Reduce Eye Strain

1. Hold your smartphone at a distance

The human eye is a marvel of nature. With a range from nearly 1cm and to infinity, it enables us to see this beautiful but challenging world. Although we can perceive an object close to our eyes, there is a term called Near the point of the human eye. It is the minimum distance, at which objects can be seen most distinctly without any strain. Near point of the human eye is normally 25cm.

So, as we know for a human to perceive an object clearly it should be kept at a distance of at least 25cm away from the eye. It holds good in the case of smartphone viewing as well. While looking at your phone, don’t let the display to be so close to your eyes. To be precise, there should be at least 25cm gap between you and the smartphone so that you get a better view without hurting your eyes.

2. Keep the brightness level adequate

Well, human eye perception differs from person to person. So it’s useless to precisely determine a specific set of brightness level which may not hurt the eyes. We recommend our viewers to adjust the brightness in accordance with how your eye/pupil reacts. If you feel that beyond a certain level of brightness your eyes are taking the stress and struggling then lower the brightness down to 5-10% from the current level.

The above case applies to daylight when the ambient light changes quite often. At night time and in a pitch dark room, it’s recommended to keep the brightness low as possible.

3. Turn on Dark Mode or Bluelight filter if available.

Modern smartphones come with special features which should help our eyes to an extent. Lately, we’ve seen many manufacturers promoting Night Mode, Bluelight filter, and similar UI modes to help us read better in the night time and reduce eye strain. Make use of them quite often and whenever necessary.

4. Blink eyes frequently

Most of us are no less than a mannequin while using a smartphone. Our head is likely to turn into a rigid body with literally few or no noticeable motion. While being fully immersed in the smartphone we even forget to take a blink. There is nothing other than this which push the eyes to fatigue within no time.

Hence, whenever doing an essential job with the smartphone do take time time to blink eyes quite often. How much time it’d take for a blink, not even a second isn’t it?

5. Avoid smartphones in bed

We agree; it’s the most comfortable place and position for playing with smartphones. I, you and we all like to chat bedridden. But, the fact is we’re so reluctant of the well-being of eyes by doing so. Ophthalmologists strictly advise not to read even books while lying on the bed. When you read from a supine position, the eyes have to focus upwards, and this less-than-optimal angle can cause severe eye strain if you’re doing this for a prolonged period.

Also, avoid reading prone position it too is not suitable for our body as a whole and can result in neck/back pain. So avoid smartphone on bed altogether.

Apart from the above precautions, there do exists many which you can make a part of your life for better well-being, such as:

  • Cleanse your eyes with lukewarm water quite often.
  • Consume Vitamin-A rich foods and avoid junks
  • Practice eye exercises
  • Minimize glare and tweak your text size and contrast for your eye comfort
  • and much more little too big things which may help your eyes in the long run.

By following the above practices and making it a part of your life, you’re giving your eyes a fair chance to be healthy as long as you live. Indeed, we never realize the importance of a thing until we lose. We’re fortunate to have healthy eyes, which is invaluable. The ball is now in our court, and it’s our responsibility to make use of it wisely. Stay safe and stay healthy.

Official poster tips the Nubia Red Magic 3S to launch on September 5

Chinese phone manufacturer known for its gaming line up Nubia has released a poster that points to the launch of a new gaming phone scheduled for September 5. The phone is the Nubia Red Magic 3S gaming mobile phone.

Little is known about the device as the launch poster did not reveal much. But before now, the Red Magic 3S had earlier been tipped to launch in September. The device was also tipped to feature Qualcomm’s best chipset onboard.

EDITOR’S PICK: Samsung Galaxy Fold to launch on September 6th in South Korea

The new teaser poster suggests it will come with an air cooling system. There is no doubt that the Nubia Red Magic 3S is an offshoot of the Red Magic 3. Thus, the device is expected to continue with the heat dissipation design of the Red Magic 3. The Magic 3 features the industry’s first cooling fan inside which doesn’t use any physical bearings and is made out of nanomaterials. The company says that the fan runs at 14K RPM and consumes very little power. It is supported by a liquid-cooled copper tube to keep the temperature inside cooler.Nubia Red Magic 3

In terms of specifications, the Nubia Red Magic 3S is expected to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ chipset which is an upgrade of the SD855. The Snapdragon 855+ chipset upgrades the CPU (2.96GHz clock speed vs 2.84GHz on SD855) and GPU (15% faster) while retaining most of the features of the original SD855. So Nubia is looking to take advantage of the increased performance of the new gaming-centric processor on its new model. The device is also expected to pack a large-capacity battery, possibly retain the 5000mAh capacity on the Red Magic 3.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro global release likely to be delayed

Ever since the US trade ban, Huawei’s global sales have taken a hit. The company’s market share and shipments in Europe have declined and it looks like its global prospects are still uncertain. The temporary license that was granted to the company back in May has been extended. But considering how it applies to only existing products, the brand’s new models like Huawei Mate 30 series are going to be affected by this trade ban.

Huawei Mate 30 Pro featured
Mate 30 Pro’s expected design

The Mate 30 series is the first major flagship lineup from Huawei after the trade ban came into effect in May. The phone is set to take on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ and the upcoming iPhones with a powerful camera setup and a waterfall display. However, the phone’s global prospects look dim as South China Morning Post reports that Huawei could delay the global release of the handset due to the trade ban.

RELATED: Huawei Mate 30, Mate 30 Pro likely to launch on September 19

While Huawei has been scrambling to stabilize its supply chain with non-US based replacements, the software is one area where there aren’t any viable replacements. Essentially, Android is an open-source platform, so the Mate 30 series could use an unlicensed version of the OS. However, without Google Services onboard, which has become a very important aspect of Android for international users, global sales are definitely going to take a hit.

Editor’s Pick: Google hints Huawei Mate 30 series isn’t licensed to use official Android

Even if Huawei decides to use its self-developed HarmonyOS, that still doesn’t solve the issue of the lack of Google Apps. So for now, HarmonyOS doesn’t look like a viable solution to the problem. If we don’t see a change in the current situation between the US and China, Huawei will have to be prepared to take a significant hit in its overseas sales.

Mate 20 X 5G recent went on sale in china

It could offset some loss with a more aggressive China strategy. In fact, a recent Canalys report indicates that nearly 64 percent of Huawei’s global sales were from China in Q2 2019! We could see this figure further go up very soon as Huawei aims to grab nearly 50 percent of the market share in China by the end of this year, up from 38% right now.

Samsung Galaxy Fold to launch on September 6th in South Korea

Samsung Galaxy Fold is one of the much anticipated smartphone to have launched this year. Even though the phone was unveiled earlier this year, the phone’s launch has been delayed multiple times due to design and build quality issues.

However, the company recently confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Fold, the company’s first foldable smartphone, will go on sale from September this year, but the South Korean giant had not revealed the exact dates.

Now, a new report claims that the smartphone will be launched in South Korea on 6th September. As per the report, the company was planning to launch the Galaxy Fold in late September but for some reason, it has decided to launch in early September.

Samsung Galaxy Fold featured

Interestingly, IFA 2019 in Berlin is also kicking-off from 6th September so there’s a possibility that Samsung could use that stage to re-launch its Galaxy Fold smartphone and talk about the changes in detail.

As for the rest of the world, it’s being said that Samsung will release the Galaxy Fold in other countries later next month. Exact dates for the U.S., the UK, Canada, and other countries is still unknown, but we hope to learn more about it pretty soon. Earlier this week, Samsung China had started taking pre-registration for the Galaxy Fold smartphone on its website.

Samsung has already confirmed that it made several important changes to the phone’s design addressing the flaws in the original product. Further, it added that the phone was put through ‘rigorous tests’ to validate this new design.

Coming to the specifications, the Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone presents a 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display with a 1536 x 2152 pixels screen resolution. In this mode, you can use three apps at the same time which Samsung calls Three-app Multitasking.

Samsung Galaxy Fold Three-App Multitasking

When folded into phone mode, it offers a 4.6-inch display with 840 x 1960 pixels screen resolution. It comes with a feature called App Continuity which automatically adjust an app when you switch screens. It is powered by a 7nm processor paired with 12GB of RAM and packs 512GB of internal storage using UFS 3.0 technology.

The phone comes with a camera module that’s made up of a 16MP ultra-wide camera, a 12MP telephoto camera, and another 12MP wide-angle camera. On the front side, it comes with a 10MP sensor. It runs the latest Samsung One UI with Android 9 Pie operating system out-of-the-box. The phone packs a 4,380mAh battery which is split into two units.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold retains the same price tag as before, $1980. Since the company has started pre-registrations for the same, the launch of Samsung’s first foldable smartphone should be just days away.

Redmi Note 8 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi A3 vs Redmi K20: Specs Comparison

Mid-rangers are Xiaomi’s “core business” and it is not a case if Redmi recently became an independent brand and carried the company’s sales to incredibly high levels. A few hours ago, the most awaited Redmi phone of the year finally made its debut. We are talking about the Redmi Note 8 Pro which was officially announced alongside the vanilla Note 8. But will the new affordable device become a best-seller like its predecessor Redmi Note 7? Does it have the potentialities to beat the concurrence? Before establishing if that is the mid-ranger for you, we think you first have to understand if it is the best option among several “value for money” devices you can find in the Xiaomi’s catalog. That is why we compared it with the latest ones available globally: the Redmi K20 (also known as the Mi 9T outside Asia) and Xiaomi Mi A3 (Mi CC9e in China).

Design

If the design is your priority, then you should not opt for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro. Both Redmi K20 and Xiaomi Mi A3 are definitely better for both their design and their build quality. While Redmi K20 is the most futuristic due to its notch-less display and its pop-up camera, as well as its psychedelic glass back, the Xiaomi Mi A3 is the most compact and the most lightweight, but it has a classic waterdrop display. Both come with a glass back and an aluminum frame, so both have a premium and flagship-like build quality. Given that I am not a compact phones lover and I like notch-less displays, I prefer the Redmi K20. But if you want a device which is easier to use with one hand and to keep in a pocket there is no challenge: Mi A3 wins.

Display

The Redmi K20 is a clear winner when it comes to display quality. It is the only to sport an AMOLED panel which is Full HD+ resolution and HDR-compliant. So it boasts a better color reproduction and even a satisfying level of detail. Redmi Note 8 Pro is Full HD as well, but it has a lower-end IPS display and it even lacks an in-display fingerprint scanner. Xiaomi Mi A3 has an AMOLED display and a UD fingerprint reader, but it comes with a disappointing HD+ resolution instead of Full HD+. But do not forget that its display is smaller and better for one-handed use.

Specs & Software

According to the specs and the benchmarks, Redmi Note 8 Pro has the highest performance thanks to its stunning MediaTek Helio G90T chipset which was specifically made for gamers and demanding users. But it has a higher energy consumption due to the 12 nm production process. However, there is no much to worry about as the Redmi Note 8 Pro comes with a bigger battery. Redmi Note 8 Pro has the best chipset, but Redmi K20 comes in a better memory configuration with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage, while Redmi Note 8 Pro stops at 8/128 GB. However, that is not a so big deal given that Redmi Note 8 Pro has expandable storage while Redmi K20 does not. Note that Xiaomi Mi A3 runs Android One, while Redmi K20 and Note 8 Pro run MIUI.

Camera

Redmi Note 8 Pro is one of the most interesting mid-range camera phones out there. It is the first phone to be equipped with a 64 MP camera, the highest resolution ever seen on a mobile phone until now. And it even has a quad camera on its rear side, including an ultrawide sensor, a dedicated macro camera, and a depth sensor. Redmi K20 is an amazing camera phone as well, thanks to its high-end 48 MP sensor and its telephoto lens. Xiaomi Mi A3 is inferior when it comes to rear cameras, but it has a better 32 MP selfie camera.

Battery

Redmi Note 8 Pro has the biggest battery, but we believe Xiaomi Mi A3 will last longer on a single charge because it has a more efficient chipset as well as a more efficient display, thanks to its smaller size and its lower resolution.

Price

Xiaomi Mi A3 is priced €220/$245 globally, Redmi K20 costs about €260/$290 and Redmi Note 8 Pro starts from just €180/$200. Overall, if I do not consider the price, despite the Redmi Note 8 Pro has a better chipset, I prefer the Redmi K20 due to its better display and design. But this does not mean it is a better phone than Redmi Note 8 Pro as the Note boasts a bigger battery, more versatile cameras, and even higher performance. With its compact HD display and inferior cameras, Xiaomi Mi A3 represents a valid alternative just for a smaller niche, but it offers Android One and an amazing selfie camera, so it is not a device to discard. Which features do you prefer and which phone would you choose according to them?
