Design

While I do not like the standard design of the LG G8 ThinQ so much, it is a very hard battle between Samsung Galaxy S10e and Xiaomi Mi 9. I will choose the Galaxy S10e because of its Infinity-O Display that embeds the front camera, as well as its attractive canary yellow color variant and its more compact design. But someone may like the Xiaomi Mi 9 due to its stunning glass back available in gradient hues changing colors depending on the light and the viewing angle. Instead, LG G8 ThinQ has the best build quality and it should be the most resistant phone. It has both the military certification and it is also waterproof. Samsung Galaxy S10e is waterproof, while Xiaomi Mi 9 does not offer any kind of water resistance.

Display

Despite having the biggest notch, LG G8 ThinQ has the most advanced display. It is the only Quad HD+ panel of the trio. It has 100 percent of DCI-P3 coverage and it supports the HDR10 and Dolby Vision standards for perfect color reproduction. Samsung Galaxy S10e should come right after with its Dynamic AMOLED screen and the HDR10 technology, but note that it has a smaller 5.8-inch display.

Hardware/Software

In each case, you get a flagship-class hardware department. So, there will be marginal differences between the performances of these devices. All come with the Snapdragon 855 chipset excluding the European version of the Galaxy S10e, and they have up to 8 GB of RAM except LG G8 that only comes with 6 GB RAM. But Samsung Galaxy S10e goes up to 256 GB, while the others stop at 128 GB. Further, Xiaomi Mi 9 has no expandable storage, while Galaxy S10e and LG G8 ThinQ have a micro SD slot.

Camera

On the paper, Xiaomi Mi 9 looks like the phone with the most outstanding cameras. However, we still had no chance to test each of these devices’ cameras, so we can not give you a final verdict about them. By the way, all of them are outstanding camera phones. LG G8 ThinQ and Xiaomi Mi 9 are equipped with triple cameras including an ultrawide and a telephoto lens, while Galaxy S10e lacks the telephoto lens but comes with a variable aperture on the primary sensor, so it should shoot stunning photos even in low light conditions.

Battery

LG G8 ThinQ has the biggest battery, but we are not sure that it will provide the longest battery life. Indeed, it has a display with a higher resolution and we did not always like how LG optimized the batteries of its phones. Samsung Galaxy S10e has a much smaller battery, so it should not be the winner of this comparison as well. Xiaomi Mi 9 sits in the middle, but with its Full HD+ display, if it has a good software optimization, it may result as the winner of the battery comparison.

Price

Samsung Galaxy S10e will cost €779/$749, while Xiaomi Mi 9 is already on pre-order in the global market for just €450/$512. We still do not know the price of the LG G8 ThinQ, but if it will cost more than €550/$626, then Xiaomi Mi 9 wins this comparison because of its higher value for money.

Redmi Note 7 fails bend test, not so strong as advertised

The Redmi Note 7 launches as the first smartphone following Xiaomi’s decision to make the Redmi series an independent brand.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7

Ahead of its launch, there were multiple videos that showed the phone could take a beating. Popular YouTube channel, JerryRigEverything decided to see how true the claims are and put the phone through his famous durability tests. The result is surprising.

Xiaomi says the Redmi Note 7 is covered in Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides. It will survive scratches from keys and coins but harder metals will create grooves. The phone also passed the flame test as the LCD display recovered after the heat was removed.

Where the Redmi Note 7 failed is in the bend test and that is because of the frame which is made out of plastic (the buttons and SIM tray too). Since the structural support is weak, the glass on the back shattered and the display also got damaged.

Upon opening the device, it was discovered that Xiaomi added a porous metal behind the plastic frame to provide support. However, one of the breaking points in the frame – the power button – doesn’t have that metal support. The other breaking point – the SIM tray – had its metal support broken off. Apparently, the metal is brittle and couldn’t handle the external stress.

Xiaomi will be launching a new flagship Mi Router soon

While Xiaomi is still basking in the attention created by the flagship Mi 9, the company is cooking a gadget that will be launched soon. That gadget is a new flagship Mi Router. The company has released a teaser poster with the caption “Coming Soon”. The poster contains the first Xiaomi router which was released five years ago and also has the picture of the router that will be released soon.mi router

The image of the upcoming router seems to be a silhouette of the first model as it shows only the shape but little detail of the design. The most prominent change we can see is that the power indicator is located at the top half instead of the bottom half. The indicator is now a ring indicator and we suspect it will also double as the power button.

Since Xiaomi first entered the router business in 2013, the company has got a number of Wi-Fi routers to its name. That is perhaps because of the importance of the router as a networking device in the home, office and other public places. As a matter of act, the Mi Routers have become one of the company’s main products alongside the Mi phones and Mi TV. The shipments rank as the second highest-selling router in China. Xiaomi says the new model has been under testing internally for more than a month and the signal coverage and usability is good. The new product will enter the closed beta testing stage soon but as to when that will happen, we don’t know.

Meizu teases the Meizu 16s is coming to India

The Meizu 16s is Meizu’s upcoming flagship phone. While it is expected to launch in China first, it appears it will also be heading to India at about the same time.

Meizu 16s India hashtag

Meizu India has taken to Twitter to tease the arrival of the phone. One of the teasers hints at the features of the phone which includes speed, utility, performance, extra features and RAM. Meizu has also created the hashtag “#ThePowerof16” for the campaign.

Last December Meizu re-entered the Indian smartphone market with the launch of the Meizu 16 flagship. The phone already launched in China about three months before its arrival in India. This year, it appears there won’t be a large gap between the launch of the phone in both countries. There is even a possibility it might launch first in India seeing as there isn’t a teaser yet or campaign in China.

Huawei’s Bruce Lee shares the P30 Pro 10X Zoom camera samples

OPPO unveiled its 10X lossless zoom camera technology in Barcelona during the MWC 2019. The technology was well received, especially since the samples shared shows the technology is worth the sweat. As with other innovations, this technology might not stay exclusive to OPPO smartphones for long. Even before OPPO launch a phone packing the feature in April there are indications that Huawei could launch the P30 Pro with a periscope lens that would enable the device to achieve better 10X zoom photos.Huawei P30 Pro 10X zoom

Huawei’s Brue Lee who is the VP of the mobile phone product line may have shared the samples captured from the device on Weibo. The Huawei exec recently shared four photos of the 5G signal tower that the company and Vodafone installed on the GSMA venue. A careful look at the samples showed that they were captured at different focal lengths. This includes 10x zoom, 5x zoom and no zoom, and a super wide-angle photo. This is a clear signal that the P30 Pro will get a 10X zoom function.Huawei P30 Pro 10X zoom

The 10X zoom camera sample is surprisingly very sharp. There is no noise or blur on the picture instead, it comes out very sharp. Huawei P20 Pro had an exceptionally powerful rear camera setup but we expect the p30 Pro t raise the bar higher. The device is said to pack a new CMOS sensor which will team up with the periscope camera in order to achieve 10x optical zoom. At the same time, the P30 Pro is also expected to be equipped with four cameras, one of which is a TOF 3D sensor, which can realize 3D face recognition and 3D modelling. Huawei is expected to launch the model in March.

After, Huawei’s announcement, Xiaomi has also announced to open new stores in the European sub-continent. The smartphone market is already blooming in Europe with Chinese products. Today as per Xiaomi’s vice president, Wang Xiang, the company wants to triple its presence in Europe.

After conquering the smartphone markets of some developing nations like India, Indonesia and some other countries, now the Chinese brand is moving towards the west. It will help the company to make its presence at the ground level across the whole European continent. Already, Xiaomi owns near about 50 stores in Europe but now it plans to increase it by 3x to 150. It is a good step to elevate the confidence for the brand among the local customers. OnePlus CEO Pete Lau reveals that the OnePlus 7 won’t feature wireless charging

After showcasing its upcoming 5G smartphone at the Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona, Spain, OnePlus is now gearing up to launch its flagship phone — OnePlus 7.

OnePlus is known for offering top-of-the-line specifications at a comparatively cheaper price. However, to do so, the company has to ditch some features and one of them is wireless charging — something that many of its users are expecting since past couple of years.

While it’s not that the company won’t be offering wireless charging on its smartphones at all, but it won’t be coming anytime soon. The reason behind that is the company’s proprietary charging technology — Warp Charge which was earlier known as Dash Charge.

Pete Lau explained that the standard set by the Warp Charge is the benchmark and compared to that, the current wireless charging is too slow. So, it seems that the wireless charging will be made available on the OnePlus smartphone when the technology develops further and offers faster charging than the current standards.

OnePlus has been working to accelerate the development of wireless charging and is currently figuring out how to charge quickly without generating much heat. Currently, most of the flagship smartphones from leading brands offer wireless charging, including Apple, Samsung, Huawei, LG, Xiaomi, among others.
