XIaomi Black Shark Skywalker Snapdragon 855 phone launch could be very near

In April 2018, Xiaomi had introduced the Black Shark smartphone as its first gaming phone. There is a possibility that the Chinese manufacturer may introduce a new Black Shark gaming phone around the same time this year. Xiaomi’s Product Direct Wang Teng Thomas has confirmed on the existence of the device which indicates that its launch may not be far away.

Recently, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun asked fans on Weibo to express their suggestions and expectations to the Black Shark crew. His Weibo posted reshared by Wang Teng Thomas in which he claimed that he had seen the new Black Shark gaming phone. The translated text of his Weibo post describes as the phone as “full of personality and very cool” which suggests that it could be well-designed phone that is fully loaded with exciting specs. He did not confirm on the name of the device.

After announcing the Black Shark gaming phone in April last year, Xiaomi had released the Black Shark Helo as its second gaming phone. Both phones are powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset, but the Helo smartphone is the world’s first phone to arrive with 10 GB of RAM. What could be the name of the next Black Shark gaming phone? It could be called the Black Shark Skywalker since a phone with the same moniker had appeared on Geekbench benchmarking platform in the previous month.

Xiaomi BlackShark Skywalker Geekbench

The Black Shark Skywalker was spotted with Snapdragon 855 chipset, 8 GB of RAM and Android 9 Pie OS on the benchmarking site. In the single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench, the smartphone had respectively scored 3494 and 11,149 points. The Black Shark Helo comes in 256 GB storage + 10 GB RAM and 128 GB storage + 6 GB / 8 GB RAM variants. Hence, there is possibility that the upcoming Black Shark phone could be also available in 10 GB RAM edition

The Snapdragon 855 chipset will be powering the 5G Android phones this year. However, there will be some non-5G phones powered by the same chipset. Hence, there is no confirmation on whether the next Black Shark phone will support 5G connectivity. Also, the other specs of the phone are under the wraps.

Samsung Galaxy A90 concept render imagines what Samsung’s first pop-up camera phone may look like

The Vivo NEX was the first smartphone to launch with a pop-up selfie camera. In a few weeks, Vivo will launch its second commercially available smartphone with a pop-up camera – the Vivo V15 Pro. However, it likely won’t be the only pop-up selfie camera phone we are getting from a top manufacturer this year. It has been reported that the Samsung Galaxy A90 will also have a pop-up selfie camera. Concept renders of the device have now surfaced online.

The pop-up selfie camera design is supposed to result in a phone with a very high screen-to-body ratio. For the Galaxy A90, it will be interesting to see if it has a higher screen-to-body ratio than the Galaxy S10 which has a punch hole display or as Samsung calls it, an Infinity-O display.

Samsung Galaxy A90 concept render

These renders show that there is still a lower bezel though not a thick one. There are actually two designs for the pop-up selfie camera: one has the camera positioned on the left of the phone’s display just like that of the Vivo NEX while the other has the camera positioned in the middle.

The phone has an in-display fingerprint scanner which has already been reported to be a feature of three Galaxy A-series phones scheduled to launch this year. The Galaxy A90 is one of the devices, so it is no surprise that the designer has included it in these renders.

On its rear, the concept Galaxy A90 has three cameras stacked on top of one another and positioned in the middle of the device. The sensors all share the same housing and there is an LED flash below the setup. The manufacturer’s branding sits a few millimeters beneath it.

Samsung Galaxy A90 concept render

The images show the phone in a gradient purple finish but a leak from a few weeks ago said the Galaxy A90 will come in black, silver, and gold color variants. It has also been reported to come in only one storage configuration – 128GB.

New Indian law prevents retailer exclusivity for products

When a phone launches in India, it is not unusual to hear manufacturers say the phone is exclusive to a particular retailer such as Flipkart and Amazon. A new law in India has put an end to this practice.

Amazon Flipkart Walmartjpg

According to reports, the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion which is under India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry modified the policy of Foreign Direct Investment in India (FDI). The new policy brings new changes which took effect on February 1.

The policy prevents owners of e-commerce websites from selling products via vendors they have equity in. For example, Amazon can’t sell products through Cloudtail India which it has equity in and is one of the largest sellers on the platform. This means several Amazon items such as Amazon Echos which are sold on the platform are no longer available for purchase from the seller.

Amazon Associates letter

As at when the policy took effect, Amazon Echo items were pulled off the site but they are back now. However, its household items sold under the Presto brand are currently unavailable.

The new policy also prevents e-commerce stores from being the exclusive retailer for selling certain phones. In a letter to its associates that has been made public, Amazon says it has ceased using the phrase “Amazon Exclusives” in all formats and across all media (online and offline marketing). It advised its associates to also cease using the phrase with immediate effect and suggested they use “Available Online on Amazon.in” instead.

The Moto XT1965-6 measures 156.9 x 75.3 x 8.2mm and it weighs 176 grams. The smartphone is fitted with a 6.24-inch display that supports full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2270 pixels.

The smartphone will be running on Android 9 Pie OS that will deliver near stock experience. It will be drawing power from a 3,000mAh capacity battery. However, the TENAA listing mentions it as 2,820mAh battery. For capturing selfies, it has a front camera of 5-megapixel. The handset could be equipped with a dual camera setup on its rear. However, the TENAA listing only mentions the rear camera configuration as 8-megapixel.

The name of the upcoming Motorola XT-1965-6 phone can be identified based on the reports that have surfaced in the recent past. The upcoming Moto G7 series includes four smartphones such as Moto G7, Moto G7 Plus, Moto G7 Play and Moto G7 Power. The Play and Power smartphones are expected to support wider notch displays compared to the G7 and G7 Plus models. Also, the G7 Play and Power phones are expected to support HD+ resolution whereas the G7 and G7 Plus are rumored to deliver full HD+ resolution. Hence, the XT1965-6 could either be the Moto G7 or G7 Plus phone with waterdrop-style notch screen.

Moto G7 Plus Red and Blue

The other specs of the XT1965-6 suggests that it could be the Moto G7 Plus smartphone. Even the dimensions leak of the G7 Plus is almost as the information that has surfaced on the TENAA listing of XT1965-6. The Snapdragon 632 will be powered by the Moto G7 whereas the G7 Plus could be fueled by Snapdragon 636.

The camera details of the XT1965-6 do not match with the leaked camera specs of G7 and G7 Plus smartphones. Rumors have it that the Moto G7 will feature 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel rear-facing dual camera setup and 8-megapixel front camera whereas the G7 Plus will be coming with 16-megapixel + 5-megapixel rear-mounted dual camera module and 12-megapixel front camera.
