Xiaomi India records a milestone, sells 1 million Mi TVs in less than Nine months

Xiaomi launched its first smart TV model for the Indian market in February this year, with the aim of dominating the market with its range of smart TV models. The company seems to be doing just that as it was revealed recently following a research by IDC that Xiaomi was the leading smart TV brand in India. The company has now revealed over the weekend that it has sold its 1 million Mi smart TVs in India since opening shop.

This was revealed via the Mi TV India Twitter handle and is certainly an impressive feat that shows the soaring popularity of the brand in India. It is even more surprising considering the already established presence of brands such as Pansonic, Samsung, LG etc in the local market before Xiaomi’s debut. The company is putting efforts to consolidate on this achievement with the opening of a Mi TV factory in India.

What Xiaomi, no doubt, has going for it is the pricing of its models which brings premium quality at affordable price tags, giving buyers good value for their money. Xiaomi had already recorded 500,000 units in sales within the first six months of the Mi TV launch as of August. However, an impressive festive season sales online were able to fast-track the company hitting the 1 million mark. Xiaomi is already celebrating this achievement with an Rs. 1,000 discount on the 32-inch and 43-inch Mi TV 4A models on Flipkart and the 43-inch Mi TV 4A model on Mi.com, also as part of the Big Diwali sale and the Diwali with Mi sale, respectively.

Xiaomi Mi 9 could be first Snapdragon 8150 fueled phone, claims report

Xiaomi has recently introduced the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 with new slider design and quad cameras in China. Soon after its launch, rumors about Xiaomi 2019 flagship phone have surfaced today. Citing information coming from supply chain, GizChina has reported that the Xiaomi Mi 9 will be the first phone to arrive with Snapdragon 8150 chipset. The new leak has shared some key information on the smartphone.

The publication has claimed that the Xiaomi Mi 9 arriving in the first half of 2019 could be the first Snapdragon 8150 chipset (previously known as Snapdragon 855) powered smartphone. Like the Mi 8, the Mi 9 is expected to launch first in China.

The publication has claimed that the Mi 9 flagship smartphone would be equipped with triple rear cameras with 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 as primary sensor. The regular variants of the phone may come with 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM. Its highest variant may include 10 GB of RAM. The handset is expected to feature an under-display fingerprint scanner which suggest that it could be arriving with AMOLED display.

Last year, Xiaomi had launched the Mi MIX 2 smartphone with Snapdragon 835 SoC. In March 2019, the Chinese manufacturer had released the Mi MIX 2S phone that resembled the Mi MIX 2 in terms of design and specs but came with the newer Snapdragon 845.

Xiaomi may use the same strategy next year. During the launch event of Mi MIX 3, the company confirmed that the 5G version of the phone will be announced in Q1 2019. Hence, the Mi MIX 3 5G version arriving next year is likely to retain the same design as the Mi MIX 3. Probably, the Mi MIX 3 5G could be the company’s first phone with Snapdragon 8150 SoC.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 was unveiled as the 8th anniversary smartphone in May this year. It is likely that the Mi 9 may arrive to succeed in May 2019. In other words, it may launch a month or two after the Mi MIX 3 5G version. There is a possibility that Galaxy S10, ZenFone 5Z’s successor or Sony Xperia XZ4 that are expected to get announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) tech expo in February 2019 could end up as the first Snapdragon 8150 powered smartphone.

The referred via article has not clearly shared information on the source. Hence, it is advisable to digest the report with a pinch of salt.

OnePlus 6T, Honor Magic 2 and the Huawei Mate 20 series are the last of them alongside the Mi Mix 3 by Xiaomi. Here, we compared the specs of OnePlus 6, Honor Magic 2 and Huawei Mate 20, two super powerful flagships which are going to be available in the global market at a moderate price, even though they have the best hardware components out there.

Design

As Honor Magic 2 sports the most innovative design, it is definitely the most attractive handset. It has a slider design with the front cameras and sensors included in the slider just like the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. This allows a screen-to-body ratio close to 100 percent without the need of a notch interrupting the display. Further, it has smaller dimensions than other devices with the same display size.

Display

With the thinnest bezels as well as 100 percent DCI-P3 coverage, Honor Magic 2 has the most convincing display. But OnePlus 6T is able to provide a similar viewing quality as it has an AMOLED display with DCI-P3 coverage as well. On the other hand, Huawei Mate 20 is the handset with the biggest display which could be better for you if you want a phone for gaming and/or productivity.

Hardware/Software

Kirin 980 is the most recent chipset in the Android market and I did not have the chance to test it deeply, but according to the first benchmark, it is even more performing than Snapdragon 845. If so, Huawei Mate 20 may be the fastest handset of this trio, but given the usual software optimization by OnePlus, the 6T may overclass it. The 6T is still not on sale, so we can not give you a final verdict.

Camera

The most interesting camera department belongs to Honor Magic 2 which boasts six cameras: three on the back and three on the front. While on the rear side you can find a monochromatic sensor as the third module, the front setup has two depth sensors which are also used for facial recognition.

Battery

Huawei Mate 20 has the biggest battery, 300 mAh more than OnePlus 6T and 500 mAh more than Honor Magic 2. It also supports a very fast charging technology which can fill 58 percent of the battery in just 30 minutes.

Price

Huawei Mate 20 recently hitten the market with a price tag of about €800/$912, the global price for Honor Magic 2 is not known yet, while OnePlus 6 will cost €559/$559. Even though I still do not know the price tag of Honor Magic 2, I want to award it for its innovation and decree it as the winner of this comparison.

More details of Nokia 9 PureView seen on firmware site

The Nokia 9 PureView is the anticipated flagship phone from HMD Global Oy. The phone has been in development for a while now but there is still no officially confirmed release date. Nevertheless, more details keep surfacing.

Nokia 9 PureView

New info on the flagship device was seen on the server of FIH Mobile, the Foxconn subsidiary said to be handling the phone’s production. Bits of information found revealed details about the phone’s codename and software version.

According to MySmartPrice, the Nokia 9 PureView is codenamed “Olympic”. The name might be a nod to the five cameras on its back which can be likened to the five rings of the Olympic Games. The server also revealed the phone is running Android 9 Pie with November’s security patch and has build number 00CN_4_030.

The Nokia 9 PureView is expected to change the way smartphones take pictures. Seeing as it has five cameras, we would be disappointed if the camera performance turns out to be less than stellar. The camera performance of the Nokia phones released by HMD Global has not been impressive. So a lot of people are really looking forward to the Nokia 9 PureView to succeed where the others have failed.

OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple gradient hue in pictures: Likely the first of many

Just before the OnePlus 6T launch, the company invited a couple of reviewers to have a sneak peek of the device in its manufacture process on its factory. During the visit as reported by MrWhosetheboss, he got an extensive tour of OnePlus’ headquarters and along the line, he stumbled on a number of old OnePlus 6 Prototypes still on display. The prototypes adopt several colours such as blue, purple and several colour gradients. We had expected the Chinese giant to make the OnePlus 6T available in some of the gradient colours and that is what just happened.OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple variant

OnePlus released a Thunder Purple gradient variant of the OnePlus 6T during the flagship phone’s China launch. The new variant joins the Midnight Black and Mirror Black variants that were announced in New York earlier on. It also happens to be the first gradient hue that the company would be releasing. Surprisingly, OnePlus 6 was never released in any gradient colour despite the growing popularity of that styling since the Huawei P20 Pro was released with such design. The OP6 only had a Flame Red and Silk White colour variant. The company has perhaps realised there is likely a shift to gradient hues among its competitors and so, may have put its pricing consideration aside in releasing this one. We’re sure more of such would follow, if not on the OP6T but on its successor.OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple

The OnePlus 6T Thunder Purple comes with a frosted glass back with deeper colours on the upper part around the camera while the lower part comes in purple. The darker colour and purple combination is a reflection of a dark sky briefly illuminated by lightning which gives it a purple appearance. The front also has black bezels just like the other variants. Aside from the frosted glass Thunder Purple gradient back, the device shares the same specs as the Midnight Black and Mirror Black variants. Check out some more pictures from below.

Samsung could soon launch Galaxy Note 9 in Pure White color variant

After launching the Cloud Silver color variant for the Galaxy Note 9, Samsung is all set to launch yet another color variant for its flagship smartphone — Pure White.

Evan Blass, a trusted leakster has shared a render of the upcoming all-new Pure White color variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. While he is usually accurate when it comes to his leaks, this time he mentions that he is not completely sure about the render’s legitimacy.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Pure White

If the Pure White Galaxy Note 9 really becomes a reality, it’ll be the first Galaxy Note-series smartphone to be offered in White color after the Galaxy Note 5 which was launched in 2015. Later, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge were also launched in White colors.

Currently, not much is known about the Pure White color variant for the Galaxy Note 9. So, we are not sure if it’ll be available globally or will be introduced in select markets only, if it ever gets announced. So far, the Cloud Silver color variant is limited to the US market only.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is currently offered in four colors — Metallic Copper, Lavender Purple, Ocean Blue, and Midnight Black, and Cloud Silver, depending on the region.

To remind you of the phone’s specifications, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 features 6.4-inch S-AMOLED screen with Infinity Display design, which carries support for Quad HD+ resolution that’s protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 5. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor is powering the device in some markets while in other markets, it is powered by the company’s own Exynos 9810 chipset.

The phone comes in two models — one with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage while another packs 8GB RAM and 512GB internal storage. Coming to the camera, the device features a dual camera setup consisting of two 12-megapixel snappers. There’s an 8-megapixel front-facing snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

Race Between Smartphones and Computers – Will the Former Replace the Latter?

Are smartphones like computers? Will they be able to replace computers? Well, it won’t be wrong to say that smartphones and computers are running a close race. Smartphones are really close to beating computers and it is, indeed, a tough competition between the two.

If you are wondering whether your next technological purchase should be a smartphone or a computer, then buy smartphones today. You will not regret the decision.

How Are Smartphones Better than Computers

Smartphones are a lot like computers in numerous ways. They are taking over the market and are getting more popular than computers — all for good reasons. The very first advantage smartphones have over computers are they are extremely easy to carry. You can take them with you anywhere and enjoy almost every feature that is offered by a computer — and then some more.

 samsung fodlable phone

Every smartphone can be connected to the Internet via 3G/4G or Wi-Fi and it supports incredible speeds. Due to the fast internet access, you can perform a number of online activities, regardless of where you are. Social media, office work, online gaming, online shopping, music, movies, etc., are just some of the activities that you can enjoy on your smartphone.

Smartphones prove to be a great companion of workaholics too. There is no need to worry about missing important emails when you are away from the office. You can even make and send presentations and excels on smartphones. It is literally like carrying a computer in your pocket!

Despite being small in size and weighing less, a smartphone is comparable to a computer in terms of RAM, processors and storage.

3 Reasons Why Smartphones are winning

  1. Foldable Smartphones

Technological advancements have taken place in displays, allowing them to be flexible.A foldable smartphone looks like a wallet which folds into half, with an image on the outside that you can interact with and you can fold it open for a larger image.

  1. 7nm Processor

Companies are rolling out a 7nm processor that delivers faster performance, savesmore power and sports a higher resolution screen and camera. What’s more? It will also support phones with 5G connectivity.

  1. Snapdragon 850

The Snapdragon 850 presents insanely speedy performance that gamers and on-the-go binge watchers can spoil themselves with. You can also benefit from features like LTE-connectivity and extended battery life.

Computers Over Smartphones

There are numerous areas where smartphones can beat a computer but it is impossible to deny the computer its rightful spot in certain areas. For example, computers are a common sight in every single office, all over the world. You cannot expect people to work using their smartphones in offices. It is true that people can make excels and presentations on the phones and even send emails, but computers offer a better platform to maintain excels, powerpoint, word doc, etc., as compared to the smartphones.

 lenovo yoga 7 pro

Additionally, many people prefer typing on a full keyboard that a computer can offer rather than typing on type pads that are only a few inches big. So, when it comes to work, computers are next to irreplaceable. Moreover, the size of the display is perhaps the only one area where a computer will always beat the smartphone.

In Conclusion

The line between a smartphone and computer is getting blurred with each passing day. Several smartphones can perform the tasks of computers such as emailing, writing blog posts, and store information, while computers are able to perform phone-like functions like making a call, sending a text, or finding a phone number.

While it may be impossible to think of smartphones completely replacing the computer in the next few years, there is a high possibility that bridge between the two will keep getting smaller.

China smartphone shipments expected to drop by over 10% in Q4 2018

Chinese smartphone market has been grappling with the challenge of a saturated market occasioned by the rapid influx of new models into the market. This has led to a drop in the total number of shipments in recent times. Research firm Digitimes predicts that shipments of smartphones in China will continue its downward spiral by over 10%. This will signify a continuation of poor shipments from the third quarter which dropped by 6.9% Year on Year in the third quarter of 2018.

The expected drop in shipments is not only hinged on a saturated market alone but it is also related to a reduction in subsidies for the purchase of 4G phones by local telecom operators. It is also related to a lengthening of the device replacement cycle by users who tend to use phones for longer periods now. There is a link between this reason and the rate of product releases as users have apparently become fed up with seeing a new, slightly upgraded model of their new phone just a couple of months after the release.

However, the Double Eleven (11.11) shopping festival is likely to drive total smartphone shipment in the fourth quarter but Digitimes projects that won’t be enough to guarantee a sequential gain in Q4. Digitimes projects a drop over 10% when compared to last year’s figures. The research firm also hinted that Apple is expected to make a big climb in the Chinese market in the fourth quarter and could outpace OPPO and Vivo to clinch the third spot in terms of smartphone shipments with the availability of the iPhone XR and the older-generation iPhone devices at lower prices. This underscores the popularity of the Apple brand in China.

It’s not only around the world, but the global decline in the smartphone shipments is also taking place in India as Apple is bracing itself for its first fall in the fourth quarter this year in India. If we calculate on a year-on-year basis, then the Cupertino giant will decline for the first time in the last four years. As according to a new reasearch report from Counterpoint, Apple is struggling to make pace despite the ongoing festive season in India.

As per Counterpoint’s research director Neil Shah, the sales are expected to remain between 700000 to 800000 units in comparison to a million last year at the same time.

“Sales are set to drop for the first time in four years,” Shah said. “If you look at Q3 – it was 900k last year and this (year) is almost 450k.” He further added, “iPhones have gone costlier and the features and specs aren’t that compelling. The install base of Android has grown vastly; the new customer base (for Apple) is not coming.”

Apple even blamed the disappointing global sales by pointing towards poor sales this year in the emerging markets. Well, the blame game has started, and the companies are terming the global slowdown for the decline in performance this year. Tim Cook pulled some wraps off the problems that company is facing by terming them as  “speed bumps along a very long journey.”

While other analysts are talking about Apple’s lost glory as the Cupertino giant is unable to offer compelling features at a high price. People are leaning towards more costlier Android phones which have gone to different levels.

Overall, the current scenario is not too bad for Apple, and it seems the company needs to reinvent ways to lure customers. Besides, old iPhone sales remained high means Indian revenue will be flat or will gain a little more than the last year but will end in red (loss).

Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth hints at price hike post Diwali season

Oppo‘s sub-brand Realme which made its mark in India’s budget smartphone segment with aggressive pricing could soon increase the pricing of its products in the Indian market.

Realme India CEO Madhav Seth said through Twitter that the brand has been on a backfoot because of the declining margins mainly due to the falling of Rupee. He further hinted that the company could hike prices post-Diwali to make up for the margins.

The Indian Rupee has been tumbling since the beginning of the year and has now touched a record low of Rs. 72.84 against USD. This increases the company’s cost for importing which in turn hits the company’s margin which probably is pretty low in such a competitive market. Also, most components are bought in US dollars from other countries, such as China and Japan, among others.

While the post from Realme India CEO does not currently say whether the price hike will be for all products or a particular offering, it seems pretty certain that the company will increase the pricing after the Diwali festival.

In the twitter post, Madhav Sheth, CEO of Realme India said:

The rupee rates are falling and as a brand, we actually work on low margins. It indicates that we might have to upgrade the pricing, just to make sure that we continue to give you the best technology in our upcoming offerings. We are trying to figure out a solution post-Diwali.

This is the second smartphone manufacturer who has hinted about the price increase post-Diwali in India. Recently, during the Redmi 6 line-up launch in India in September, Xiaomi hinted towards price hike and said that it’ll wait for a few months to see how INR performs against USD before taking such a move. Given that the Rupee is still falling, it seems that Xiaomi will increase the price of its products after Diwali.

Realme started off as an online-only sub-brand of China-based Oppo but later split from its parent company to work as an independent brand. Apart from selling its phones through its official website and other online marketplaces such as Amazon and Flipkart, it also partnered with Reliance Digital for selling its phones through offline stores.

So far, the company has launched four smartphones — Realme 1, Realme 2, Realme 2 Pro and Realme C1. The company has posted pretty impressive numbers, highlighting the newly-formed company’s popularity in the budget smartphone segment. The company claims to have sold more than 2 million phones during the Big Billion Days and Festive Dhamaka Sale on Flipkart.

Till date, the Realme 2 has been the brand’s bestselling phone, having sold more than 1 million devices in just 40 days of the launch. It also claims to have sold over 110,000 units of Realme C1 entry-level phone in just one second during Flipkart’s sale.
