Meizu MX4: a display to appreciate from the new Xiaomi rivals.
There’s a new opponent for the manufacturers of high-end but affordable smartphones; move over Xiaomi, Meizu has arrived, with the promise of great things. The MX4 is due for release later this year and is to be a flagship device capable of direct competition with Xiaomi’s range in specifications and value for money. It is to be priced at a highly competitive 1999 Yuan ($321 US dollars). The purpose of the exercise, apparently, is for Meizu to prove to the world that it can do what Xiaomi do, and gain credibility. So what is this MX4 and can it really compete with the masters of this market?

The MX4 has some exemplary specifications, most notably with regard to the display. The 5.5 inch screen has an awe-inspiring 2560 x 1536 resolution. A pixel per inch ratio of 543 and that could easily make a media fan actually faint with joy. Other specs include 3GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 805 chipset and the photo capabilities are good; there’s a 16 megapixel rear and a 5 megapixel front-facing camera.

It was previously reported that the MX4 would exist in two forms, with the above version the high-end option: so don’t get overly excited about the price quite yet. There will be a lower specification model too, and that one we assume will have the $321 price tag and a more modest display capability of 5 inch 1080p. This means the MX4 is going to be in the same ball park price-wise as the OnePlus One. The Meizu MX4 is also reported to have LTE connectivity, it will be equipped with the newest version of Meizu’s overlay Flyme ROM, version 4.0.
Meizu are expanding into the US market with the MX3 available there at the moment through their website store. Hopefully the MX4 will be available there too soon. The progression of Meizu continues to excite, as they are rumoured to be working on another low-cost mid spec phone – one reportedly powered by a Mediatek MT6595, but we’ll have to wait for further information about that.

ELIFE S5.5 to replace MT6592 processor with Snapdragon 400
Gionee will replace the MT6592 with the Snapdragon 400 (MSM8928 quad-core/A7 1.6G) as the processor for the ELIFE S5.5L. One of the main reasons could be because Gionee will have to wait until July for MediaTek to ship them the needed processors.
Other adjustments were made for this new 4G edition. The camera does not stick out anymore, but as a result, the S5.5L’s thickness increased from 5.55mm to 5.75mm! In addition, its battery power has increased to 2450mAh!
It also supports TD-LTE/WCDMA/TD-SCDMA and GSM internet but can still support 3G dual-mode. Other specs have not changed. Is it safe to buy a OnePlus One from a third party dealer?
The OnePlus One is now available in some third party retailers, for a premium or course, but it may be the only option for some people desperate to own the phone and without an invitation. So is it safe to buy from these retailers? Are there any things to watch out for? Well, yes, you need to be careful, but it can be done safely with a little bit of research and while there are some simple modifications that may be necessary, there is not a great deal of work involved.
The OPO is on sale from OppoMart for $399 before shipping and this company is probably your safest bet, but the phone itself has different software. Instead of CyanogenMod 11S it runs Color OS. The way around the software is to install a CynogenMod ROM or to just continue using the Color OS. Installing the CynogenMoD ROM can be daunting, although there is plenty of technical support out there to help anyone through the process.
Also the LTE bands are China-specific so users from Europe or North America may well have problems running any third party version of the OPO. Although this depends on your location so a bit of research may find this is a non-issue. Other things to be aware of are the warranty will not be valid outside of China, so you may not be covered if anything goes wrong.
Really then, there are many things to consider before buying an OPO from a third party, but these dealers are in the unique position of actually having some phones in stock, and at the moment they are the only real option for owning one for many of us. If a OnePlus One is something you really want, the third party issues shouldn’t deter you. They are, after all, fairly easy to overcome.

ZTE to change the name of the Red Bull Smart Phone
ZTE recently announced that they will change the name of their new flagship phone, the Red Bull. Although they said that they are quite proud with coming up with the “Red Bull” name, they still hope they can come up with another name that can have a personality of its own and can rightfully be passed down from generation to generation. They hope to come up with a name as creative as the ones Internet users have suggested.
For the moment, ZTE has changed the phone’s name in its Weibo account from the “ZTE Red Bull Phone” to the “ZTE V5 Smart Phone.” Whether or not netizens are fine with this remains to be seen but some internet users say that they don’t care about the name but whether it is well made.

Huawei Honor 6 Review: new flagship smartphone with Kirin 920 octa-core processor
After we’ve covered the news about the official lauching about the new flagship smartphone, the Huawei Honor 6, is now we have a review about the phone. The new Huawei Honor 6 is packs with 5 inch screen, 3GB of RAM and this is the first smartphone that powered by Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 920 octa-core processor made of four A15 cores and 4 A7 cores which Huawei thinks compares to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset.
Why you can’t get hold of a OnePlus One.
The OnePlus One is a smartphone of wonder and legend. It is here but yet not here, a beautiful twinkling mirage. How has this happened that there is such a shortfall in supply? You need an invitation to own one, and these are horribly scarce. Although the hype is certainly building demand, it is a frustrating time for potential customers and manufacturer alike. Carl Pei, Director of OnePlus Global, has posted a basic explanation of the problem on the OnePlus forums, so we thought we’d pass it on to you, if nothing else this article gives you something to read while waiting for your invitation.
While assuring customers that OnePlus are “doing everything…to increase shipments”, Pei explains that while the demand was underestimated, it is too important not to have a stock surplus for a startup to order too many. This meant that order numbers were conservative. Much more conservative than they thought, apparently. Making up the shortfall is difficult because the LCD screen has a 3 month procurement programme so new orders cannot be completed at speed and the last batch were ordered before the end of April. Add to this OnePlus rejects 30% of all new components due to their strict quality control, the back cover is made of unique materials so is difficult to produce and the 64GB memory is unusual so not easy to come by, and the problem becomes clear: it just takes a long time to build the phone, and they need far more than they ever dreamed they would need. This means it is likely to be some time yet before the demand can meet supply.
OnePlus have been accused of withholding stock purposelfully, something Pei refutes as going against the OnePlus business plan. They don’t have the marketing budget of the big players, so their way to the top of the chain is to produce high-quality smartphones at low prices and instead of advertising, sell as many as they can (without making a profit) and rely on the phones to advertise themselves and word of mouth recommendations. Holding back stock would seem to contradict the business plan but the hype can’t be bad advertising for the company. So is there any light at the end of the tunnel? Production is due to increase at the end of this month and there are plans to adopt a pre-order system later in the year but not until they have sorted the production problems.
So are they to be forgiven? Well, they have achieved a massive amount for a company that didn’t exist 8 months ago, to have produced a phone at all in that time is an achievement, and the products are excellent value. It might be worth the hassle to bear with them and all the teething problems and look to the future, they might just get it right next time.
Huawei Honor 6 Hands On First
Huawei Honor 6 packs a HiSilicon Kirin 920 octa-core processor, just launch at Beijing this evening. It’s new flagship of Honor series smartphone.
Micromax’s most expensive flagship smartphone, the Canvas Gold A300
It’s time for the next flagship device from Micromax, it has only been 2 months since the last one, the Micromax Canvas Knight, and two months before that they released the Micromax Canvas Turbo. Overexcited? Perhaps, but let’s assess the new Micromax Canvas Gold A300 and see what the most recent fanfare is all about.

There have been some tantalising pictures leaked and some specifications released, the attractive and slim (6.9mm) smartphone has a built in battery, and rubberised sockets for all the usual accessories. Inside, the features include Android Kitkat 4.4.2 and a top of the range octa-core SoC, but don’t expect to get it cheaply; it’s priced at around $400, making it the most expensive smartphone Micromax have ever made.
The Micromax Canvas Gold A300 has a 5.5 inch 1080 x 1920 full HD display, the octa-core processor clocks at 2GHz and there’s 2GB of RAM. The storage capacity is 32GB, there has been no word on whether this is expandable yet, however. The camera is a definite step forward, the front is a fairly standard 5MP but the rear is 16MP, which is the highest pixel rate of any Micromax smartphone. This pixel rate, coupled with the auto-focus and reports of Sony sensors, makes the Canvas Gold A300 camera one of the best available at the moment.
Thia dual SIM device has many connectivity features such as GPS, GPRS/ EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Hotspot and Bluetooth v4.0. The battery is a 2300 mAh which allows for 8 hours of phone talk time or 210 standby hours. The built-in battery seems adequate enough to run such a powerful smartphone then.
