HUAWEI has introduced the HUAWEI Band 8 in India, a year after its launch in China. The Band 8 follows the Band 6, released in India in 2021, with no Band 7 in between.

Huawei Band 8 specs:

The Band 8 comes with a 1.47-inch AMOLED 2.5D touch screen, offering a resolution of 194×368 pixels and a pixel density of 282 PPI. It allows users to customize dials to match their outfits and is water-resistant up to 50 meters (5 ATM).

Key features include heart rate tracking, 24-hour heart rate monitoring, and blood oxygen (SpO2) monitoring. The Band 8 uses HUAWEI TruSeen 5.0 for heart rate monitoring, HUAWEI TruSleep 3.0 for sleep tracking, and HUAWEI TruRelax for stress tracking. It also has menstrual cycle tracking.

Homegrown wearable brand Noise is launching another smartwatch. Following the recent release of the Triumph, the company is introducing the Ultra 3 Luminary on August 1st, priced at Rs. 2,999. The smartwatch will come in various colors and strap options.

The key feature of the Ultra 3 Luminary is “Lumilert,” which allows users to set different colored alerts for different apps. For example, you can assign a specific color to messages from different people.

$649 Galaxy Watch Ultra’s paint starts peeling off after just days of use

Samsung‘s newly launched Galaxy Buds 3 Pro was pulled from sale due to major quality issues. Now the company’s latest and most premium watch, the Galaxy Watch Ultra, is also facing a paint peeling issue. The news comes from Reddit user bimmerb0ii.

The user received his pre-ordered Galaxy Watch Ultra (grey model) on the 19th of this month and reportedly wore it even while sleeping. Only after a couple of days when it took it off for charging, he noticed that the paint was already peeling off at the back of the watch above the bottom left screw. You can see it in the image above. He also mentioned that he avoided the gym and had been ‘babying’ the product since he got it. So it’s unclear why the paint started peeling off within such a short period.

Only the Titanium Gray model seems to have the issue

This issue, however, seems to be limited to the grey color option. The white and silver options apparently only have paint on the bezel and partly on the sides.

Fortunately, bimmerb0ii had a chat with Samsung Text Support. The company asked the user to visit an authorized service center. According to the user, the authorized service center he visited didn’t have any replacement parts for the Galaxy Watch Ultra (at least at that time). So they advised the user to call Samsung for a replacement.

Upon calling 1800SAMSUNG, he had to wait around 30 minutes due to the high volume of calls. Then the agent reportedly offered him $22 to keep the watch. Upon preferring a replacement, the whole process only got more complicated. You can see the steps he noted below.

Return the defective watch ultra for a refund. (Take note he got this at a discount since he preordered this together with the Galaxy Z Fold 6). A prepaid shipping label was emailed to him. The refund will take around two weeks to be credited back to his account.
Purchase a new Galaxy Watch Ultra using the link the agent sent him. At this point, he had already paid for another order of the Watch Ultra at full price. Not the preorder price since the promo is finished.
Wait for Samsung to issue his refund for the defective Watch Ultra.
Once refunded, he will need to contact the company again to get another refund (they will price match his original pre-order price).

We hope the upcoming MR device will offer a more immersive and standalone experience, similar to Apple’s Vision Pro, but nothing is confirmed yet.

Apple has fallen out of the top five smartphone vendors in China for the first time since its rapid rise in the market. According to market research firm Canalys, iPhone shipments in China declined by 6.7% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2024.

Xiaomi, which had been struggling, saw a 17% year-on-year increase, re-entering the top five with 10 million units shipped.`

In contrast, Apple’s shipments fell to 9.7 million units, giving it a reduced market share of 14%. Despite offering discounts of up to 23%, the company struggled to maintain its position. Domestic competitors benefited from localized supply chains and strong brand loyalty among Chinese consumers.

In response to this decline, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams recently visited China to meet with officials and reaffirm the company’s commitment to the market. Analysts like Lucas Zhong of Canalys suggest that Apple needs to localize its “Apple Intelligence” platform for China within the next year to regain lost ground. ASUS announced the Fearless Pro16 2024 laptop just a couple of days ago. Now the laptop is on sale in China and is priced at 7999 Yuan (around $1100) for the 32GB + 1TB configuration. This laptop is equipped with a Ryzen AI 9 365 processor and a 16″ 3.2K OLED display.

You get an all-metal body design, which is only 13.9mm thick and weighs only 1.5kg. This lid supports 180-degree opening and closing. Upon opening up the lid you will be looking at a 120Hz OLED screen that covers 100% P3 wide color gamut, supports 10-bit color depth, and reaches a peak brightness of 600 nits. You can get an idea of the bezels from the image above. There is a 1080p IR camera on top of the display panel.

The AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 processor is built on TSMC’s 4nm FinFet process and is equipped with a 10C20T Zen 5 core and a Radeon 880M integrated GPU. This iGPU comes with 12 Compute Units (768 unified shaders) running at up to 2,900 MHz. It supports up to 4 monitors with resolutions as high as SUHD 4320p60. The processor also equips an XDNA 2 NPU with 50 TOPS computing power. You can get an idea of the GPU performance of the laptop from the image below.

Another leak regarding the upcoming Xiaomi 15 series has surfaced, this time focusing on the top-tier Xiaomi 15 Ultra.

While the standard and Pro models are expected to launch shortly after Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 release, making them the first to feature this new SoC, the Ultra variant is rumored to be released sometime in Q1 2025. But leaks have been trickling out, revealing details about the phone.

Now, tipster Smart Pikachu suggests the phone will feature a 2K dual-layer OLED display. This technology, recently dubbed “Tandem OLED” by Apple in their latest iPad, offers improved brightness and HDR performance compared to single-layer OLED panels.

While Apple may have brought the term to the mainstream, Honor actually debuted it earlier with the Magic 6 Ultimate. Nonetheless, Xiaomi seems ready to embrace the stacked OLED trend.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, like its siblings. The leak also hints at an impressive 24GB of RAM and a battery capacity of over 6000mAh.

However, this might come at a cost — both in terms of weight and size. Smart Pikachu suggests that the 15 Ultra won’t be light or thin. Xiaomi’s current flagship, the 14 Ultra, is already quite hefty at 9.2mm thick and weighing 229.5 grams. The 15 Ultra could be a real hand-filler if the leak holds true.

Huawei is one of the participants who made a surprise reveal of a new, yet-to-be-announced notebook at the event. Although the company hasn’t shared any details yet, the laptop features a “GT” logo on both the chassis and packaging.

Historically, Huawei has reserved the “GT” designation for high-performance products, such as the outdoors-oriented WATCH GT smartwatch and the feature-rich MateView GT monitor. Given this pattern, it is rumored that this “GT” branded laptop might be Huawei’s first gaming laptop.

Visually, the leaked images reveal a couple of interesting details. The notebook sports a glowing Huawei logo on the lid and a rear-mounted air vent design for efficient heat dissipation. These gaming-centric design choices further support the theory of a Huawei gaming laptop in the works.

As expected, the specifications haven’t been revealed yet. However, a Chinese media report suggests that Huawei’s gaming laptop might be equipped with an Intel Core Ultra processor and 140W charging support, similar to the Huawei MateBook X Pro.

A leak from tipster HMD Meme on X (formerly Twitter) suggests that HMD Global might be preparing for another Nokia phone rebrand soon. The leak details the specifications of an upcoming HMD 225 4G, which appear to be identical to the existing Nokia 225 4G launched earlier this year.

The HMD 225 4G, if real, would sport a small 2.4-inch IPS LCD with 400 nits of peak brightness. Under the hood, the leak suggests a Unisoc T107 SoC, a modest chipset commonly found in entry-level feature phones.

The leaked specifications of the HMD 225 4G are almost identical to those of the Nokia 225 4G, suggesting that this could be merely a rebranding. The tipster also shared renders of the HMD 225 4G, which closely resembles its Nokia counterpart.
