Pixel 10’s Tensor G5 chip to be designed by Google and built by TSMC’s 3nm Process

We have come across multiple rumors in the past claiming that Google will switch to TSMC for its Tensor chips. Previously leaked documents have already revealed that Google will switch to TSMC for the fabrication of the Pixel 10 series’ Tensor G5 chipset.

Pixel devices aren’t the best when it comes to power efficiency

While Pixel devices are among the smartest smartphones on the market, they are not the most power-efficient. Power efficiency is crucial for a device that relies on limited battery power. A less efficient device requires better cooling solutions or must reduce performance to operate safely. We’ve seen numerous reports in the past about Pixel devices getting hotter than expected under certain use cases.

The higher-than-usual power consumption and occasional overheating are attributed to the process nodes on which Tensor chips are fabricated. For those unfamiliar, Google’s Tensor chips are produced by Samsung Foundry.

Things could change with the Tensor G5 powered Pixel 10 series

Now a report out of Taiwan claims that Google has partnered with TSMC and has already made some progress in the development of the Tensor G5. Notably, the Tensor G5 will use TSMC’s 3nm process. Google is also reportedly investing in independent research and development of its chips.

Tensor G5 is going to be Google’s first independently designed smartphone chip. All the Tensor chips Google has used in Pixel devices so far were customized by Samsung. In contrast, Google Tensor G5 will be the first to adopt the company’s own architecture design, which is expected to significantly improve the performance of the chip. It not only holds the potential to solve some of the glaring issues of Tensor chips but also offers Google more control over its chips.

According to the report, Google will not only benefit from a higher power efficiency on the Tensor chips but will also be able to offer a more capable AI experience on Pixel devices with this development. The integration between hardware and software is also expected to improve with the use of Google‘s own architecture.

Nokia 105 (2024) 2G feature phone debuts as a rebranded HMD 105

HMD Global, the company behind Nokia-branded phones, has released a new iteration of their classic feature phone, the Nokia 105 (2024). This release is essentially a rebrand of the HMD 105 launched earlier in June but with the key addition of wired earphones included in the packaging.

Nokia 105 (2024)

Nokia 105 (2024) Specifications:

The Nokia 105 (2024) sticks to the formula that made feature phones popular – simplicity and reliability. It features a compact design with a 2-inch 120×160 display, perfect for basic needs like calling and texting. Under the hood, you’ll find a modest 4MB of internal memory expandable via a microSD card slot that supports up to 32GB.

Despite its unassuming specs, the Nokia 105 (2024) boasts a surprisingly long battery life. The 1000mAh removable battery promises up to 18 days of standby time, making it a great option for users who prioritize functionality over constant charging. Charging is handled through a microUSB port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack allows for easy connection to the included earphones or any other compatible headphones.

Nokia 105 (2024)

The phone also has a solid build quality with a rigid inner frame. Other features include an FM radio, MP3 player, LED flashlight, space for up to 2,000 contacts, and the classic Snake game. It comes in Charcoal, Purple or Blue colors.

One interesting difference compared to the HMD 105 is the slight downgrade in water resistance. The Nokia 105 (2024) carries an IP52 rating, offering some protection against dust and light splashes. This is a slight step down from the IP54 rating of the HMD 105. However, the addition of earphones in the box might be a worthwhile trade-off for some users.

While the Nokia 105 (2024) doesn’t offer the internet connectivity or advanced features of a smartphone, it caters to a specific niche. It’s a phone built for essential communication, with a long-lasting battery and a durable design.

Xiaomi Pocket Power Bank & Power Bank 4i with 10000mAh capacity launching on July 9 along with Redmi Buds 5C

Xiaomi Pocket Power Bank

The Xiaomi Pocket Power Bank was launched in China last year as the Pocket Edition Power Bank, offering 10000mAh power backup, along with a built-in USB Type-C power cable, and a USB-A port as well as a Type-C port for charging. It is capable of providing a maximum output of 22.5W for a single port. A key feature of this power bank is its low-current discharge mode, which is useful for reviving small devices with low battery levels.

The Xiaomi Power Bank 4i is also teased to bring similar features, like support for 22.5W fast charging, two USB-A ports for output, and a USB Type-C port for both input and output.

Redmi Buds 5C

Lastly, the Redmi Buds 5C will be available in three colors: Bass White, Symphony Blue, and Acoustic Black. While the company teases the inclusion of ANC (Active Noise Cancellation), it highlights the promise of premium sound quality and long-lasting battery life without providing additional specifics.

More details of these devices are expected to be confirmed in the coming days, so stay tuned for more.

Is the OnePlus Nord 4 launch near in India? Here’s what we know

The Nord CE 4 Lite was OnePlus’ latest entry in the popular Nord lineup, although a newer and higher end Nord 4 model is also in the works. This upcoming phone is a mid-range offering and would likely offer capable specs at an affordable price tag.

OnePlus Nord 3

1. OnePlus Nord 4: When can we expect the launch?

According to known tipster Yogesh Brar, the Chinese brand is planning on launching the Nord 4 in the third week of July 2024. This isn’t too far fetched as the last gen OnePlus Nord 3 model was released in early July. An Indian announcement is likely imminent, with its first sale following soon after. The tipster shared in the tweet that the Nord will go on sale during the Amazon Prime Day sale, which is on July 20.

2. What about its specs?

The OnePlus Nord 4 is rumored to be a rebranded Ace 3V, which was released in China. If this is true, the Nord 4 could ship with a glass front and back for a premium feel. For protection, OnePlus offered an IP65 rating for water and dust resistance. Ace 3V was announced with a tall 6.74-inch AMOLED display with a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, the Nord 4 is expected to be equipped with the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 SoC, shifting away from MediaTek to Qualcomm in the next-gen model. Looking at the back, a dual camera setup may return with a 50-megapixel primary sensor and an 8-megapixel ultra wide angle lens.

A large 5,500mAh battery pack is rumored to power the Nord 4, which may support 100W wired fast charging like the Ace 3V. OnePlus claimed that you could charge the Ace 3V to full in just 30 minutes. If the upcoming device features the same capable specs as the Ace 3V, then it probably has similar drawbacks. So you could miss out on the microSD card for storage expansion and skip a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is often preferred by audiophiles who use wired headphones.

3. Pricing expectations

OnePlus unveiled the Nord 3 for a starting price tag of 33,999 INR (roughly 407 US Dollars) for the base 8GB + 128GB variant. It isn’t confirmed whether there will be a price hike between the generations. Although the base version of the Nord 4 should cost around or under the 35,000 INR mark.

Similar to the Nord 3, there should also be a more expensive variant with a higher storage configuration. OnePlus hasn’t made any official announcement for this phone, however, we expect more details to surface in the next few days. Till then, you can see if it’s worth waiting for by clicking here.

OnePlus Summer Launch Event Set For July 16: Nord 4 And More Expected

OnePlus has announced its next product event. The OnePlus Summer launch event is set to take place later this month. The details about the upcoming devices remain a mystery at the moment but the brand will eventually reveal in the coming days. To recall, last year’s Summer launch event was about Nord-branded devices including smartphones and TWS earphones.

OnePlus Summer launch event set for this month

The OnePlus Summer launch event is set to take place on July 16, 3 pm CEST (6:30 pm IST) in Milan, Italy. The microsite of the upcoming event on the company’s official website displays an invitation metal card that reads ‘Some say it’s impossible in the 5G era to make a smartphone with the strength, sophistication and enduring quality of metal. We say…Never Settle.’ It also says that with the rise of 5G, metal, the symbol of design excellence was abandoned.

Another teaser posted by OnePlus shows Nord in silver color. This hints at the OnePlus Nord 4’s arrival with a metal design. It is in line with the previous report that suggested the launch timeline. Asus Vivobook S 15 (2024): Is it a worthy contender to the MacBook Air M3 in India?

Asus recently opened pre-bookings for its latest Vivobook S 15 (2024), the first AI-powered PC in India featuring Snapdragon X Elite and innovative Copilot+ AI features. This launch has sparked significant interest, positioning the Vivobook S 15 as a potential rival to Apple’s popular MacBook Air M3. But does it truly measure up? Let’s delve into its features, performance, and pricing to assess its worthiness.

ASUS Vivobook S 15 2024

1. Basic Specifications

The Vivobook S 15 OLED features a Snapdragon X Elite X1E 78 100 processor along with an Adreno GPU, Qualcomm Hexagon NPU 45TOPS, and 16GB LPDDR5X RAM. It has a 15.6″ 3K OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD.

It’s impressively thin and light at just 1.42kg and 1.47cm. It offers a single-zone RGB keyboard and a dedicated Copilot key. In terms of connectivity, the laptop includes two USB4 ports, two USB 3.2 Type-A, HDMI 2.1, a MicroSD card reader, and an audio jack. It comes with a 70Wh battery providing up to 18 hours of use and runs on Windows 11 Home.

2. Copilot+ AI Features

One of the standout features of the Vivobook S 15 is its integration of Copilot+ PC, a set of AI-powered tools designed to enhance productivity and user experience. While the headline feature, Recall, has been delayed due to security concerns, the laptop still boasts several other AI capabilities. These include presence monitoring, which dims the display when the user isn’t looking to conserve battery life, and improved Windows Studio effects for video calls. The dedicated AI chip also offloads intensive processes from the CPU, contributing to the laptop’s impressive battery life.

3. Comparison with MacBook Air M3

While the Vivobook S 15 aims to compete with the MacBook Air M3, there are key differences to consider. The Vivobook S 15 offers a larger 15.6-inch display compared to the MacBook Air M3’s 15-inch display. In terms of processing power, initial reviews suggest that the Vivobook S 15’s Snapdragon X Elite processor performs well in multi-core tasks and rendering processes, even outperforming the M3 MacBook Air in certain scenarios.

Battery life is another area where the Vivobook S 15 shines. Tests have shown impressive battery longevity, surpassing many competitors. However, it falls slightly short of the larger 15-inch M3 MacBook Air, which boasts an even longer battery life.

4. Drawbacks and App Compatibility Concerns

One of the main concerns with the Vivobook S 15 lies in app compatibility. The number of native ARM Windows apps is currently limited, leading to reliance on emulation for many applications. While some apps perform well under emulation, others may encounter issues. Furthermore, certain app developers have blocked emulation, resulting in the unavailability of some popular apps on this PC, although they are expected to be released later.

While Microsoft’s Prism translation layer aims to improve compatibility, it doesn’t solve all issues. The lack of a touchscreen makes using features like Cocreator in Microsoft Paint less intuitive, according to Wired. Additionally, the Live Captions feature struggles to keep up with fast-paced audio. Overall, the Vivobook might not be suitable for those seeking high graphics performance or needing specific apps that are not widely used.

According to reviews, the gaming performance of this laptop is also inconsistent. Emulation and overall performance are less than ideal, primarily due to Qualcomm’s weaker GPU, which lags behind competitors. This may be disappointing for users who prioritize gaming on their laptops.

5. Pricing and Value Proposition

The Asus Vivobook S 15 (2024) starts at ₹124,990 for the 16GB + 1TB model. This makes it slightly more affordable than the 13″ MacBook Air M3, which starts at ₹134,900 in India.

The Vivobook S 15 (2024) offers a compelling value compared to the MacBook Air M3, especially when considering storage options. The base model of the MacBook Air M3 starts with 8GB RAM and 512GB storage, which may not be sufficient for power users. The same 16GB + 1TB variant of the MacBook Air M3 comes at a significantly higher price point.

Asus is also offering attractive pre-order benefits, including a 2-year warranty extension, 3 years of damage protection, and branded earbuds, all for just ₹1. This adds significant value to the package and makes the Vivobook S 15 an even more tempting option.

Therefore, if you prioritize a powerful Windows laptop with innovative AI features, competitive performance, and a vivid display, the ASUS Vivobook S 15 (2024) presents an attractive option. However, if you rely on specific apps that are not yet optimized for ARM or are a hardcore gamer, you might want to consider alternatives or wait for further app compatibility improvements.
