In a press release on Samsung’s Germany Newsroom, the company announced that the One UI 8.5 update would be available on flagship devices as far back as the Galaxy S23 and on the last three generations of Galaxy A-series phones. While it doesn’t include the list of eligible devices, it confirms that One UI 8.5 is not coming to older phones launched in 2022 or before, at least most of them.

Technically, Samsung has already fulfilled the promised number of OS upgrades for the Galaxy S22 and other older devices that may not receive the One UI 8.5 update. The S22 launched with Android 12 and promised four generations of Android OS upgrades. That means Android 16 was the final one. And the company doesn’t guarantee subsequent updates for such devices, even if the OS version remains the same.

Still, many users would expect to receive One UI 8.5, especially since it brings a host of new features and significant improvements. However, that might only lead to disappointment for older Galaxy users.

Samsung hasn’t revealed why it won’t release the One UI 8.5 update to many older Galaxy devices, but a strong possibility is optimization challenges. Previously, it was easy to port a new skin (let’s say One UI 6.1) to an older device simply because it shared the exact same core foundation as the previous build (such as One UI 6.0). But the same doesn’t apply to One UI 8.5.

One UI 8.5 is based on Android 16 QPR2, whereas One UI 8.0 uses the original Android 16 at its core. QPR2 is a new branch of Android 16 that introduces a number of underlying code changes, updated APIs, and newer developer tools. These platform changes and optimization challenges may be why Samsung may have decided not to upgrade all older devices to One UI 8.5.

This Motorola flagship from 2023 has begun receiving the Android 16 update on the Telus Mobility network in Canada with the firmware version W1TR36H.56-13, as reported by a Reddit user (via Ytechb). The download size of this update package is just over 2.3GB.

While the Android 16 update for the Edge+ 2023 has been spotted in Canada, it could also be rolling out to other regions. It’s better to manually check for updates by navigating to Settings > System > Advanced > System updates and tapping Check for updates. If the update isn’t available, give it another try in a few days, as the expansion can take a few days to weeks.

After upgrading to Android 16, you’ll see many new features, including Live updates, Desktop Window, group notifications, APV codec support, HDR screenshots, and Advanced Protection Mode. The update also adds new emojis, improves hearing aid support, and lets you create custom modes in the Settings app.

Unfortunately, this is the last major OS upgrade for the Motorola Edge+ 2023, as it was released with Android 13 with a promise of just three major upgrades. And to everyone’s surprise, the brand kept expanding the beta program to more and more devices, now available for over a dozen smartphones. However, on the other hand, the company is struggling with the Android 16 rollout, as the update hasn’t reached all eligible devices.

Motorola is struggling to wrap up Android 16 rollout

The company began rolling out a stable Android 16 update to its devices in September 2025, ahead of many of its competitors, including OnePlus, Oppo, and Vivo. The Edge 60 Pro and Edge 50 Fusion were among the first phones to receive the Android 16 update. However, Motorola struggled to deliver timely releases to other eligible devices.

Motorola looks more promising this year

Nothing OS 4.1: New features and major upgrades

1. New widgets

Nothing OS 4.1 adds three new widgets, officially termed Breathing Break widgets. They offer simple breathing exercises, designed to help you reset during the day.

The new widgets are available in the widget library and can be easily added to the home screen. When you tap a widget, it starts a timer and asks you to perform inhaling and exhaling exercises.

5. Camera and other changes

Nothing OS 4.1 adds a new Cricket preset for RCB fans, which shows a Nothing x RCB watermark. The brand is also the title sponsor of the IPL team.

Major upgrades in One UI 8.5

One UI 8.5 is still based on Android 16, but it uses a newer QPR2 build that adds extra features from Google, in addition to those developed by the One UI team. The Quick Settings are now fully customizable, allowing users to resize, rearrange, and organize toggles and sliders more freely than before. Samsung has updated app icons, at least for the first-party apps, to feature a bit of a 3D effect.

The lock screen has been updated to automatically adjust the clock and date, so they don’t cover the main subject of your lock screen wallpaper. Additionally, it can now show weather visuals based on the current conditions. An important visual upgrade is the new, modern floating tab bar UI, a pill-shaped UI element with a frosted color scheme. It replaces the traditional plain tab bar at the bottom.

Samsung has improved the Photo Assist feature to let users keep generating and editing AI images without saving every version first. It also introduces a new AI feature, “Now Nudge,” that proactively suggests actions and information based on what is currently on your screen. It works similarly to Google’s “Magic Cue” on Pixel devices.

One UI 8.5 also introduces some important features, such as Partial Screen Recording to record specific areas of your phone, Audio Broadcast to use your phone as a microphone, and Storage Share to access files from other Galaxy devices. If you have an Edge 50 Neo and are still waiting for an update notification, go to Settings > System updates > Check for updates to check for available updates manually. Since the rollout has just begun, it may take some time to show up on your Motorola device.

The Edge 50 Neo is one of the few Motorola devices that comes with a promise of five OS updates and five years of security updates from the brand. Since it was launched with Android 14, it should receive OS updates until Android 19.

What’s new in Android 16?

While it’s a major OS upgrade, don’t expect major visual changes or groundbreaking features. The company hasn’t officially announced the rollout yet, like any other Vivo device. However, some Vivo V30 users have confirmed the rollout on the official forum, as spotted by the folks at Ytechb. Currently, the update is rolling out to testers via the OriginOS 6 trial program with the firmware version PD2323JF_EX_A_16.2.6.7.W30. It will soon expand to the remaining users.

The OriginOS 6 is a pretty significant update, weighing in at about 4.5GB for the Vivo V30. It’s best to download such hefty update packages over a stable Wi-Fi connection.

If you’re rocking a Vivo V30, check if an update is available on your device via the System updates section in the Settings app. If there isn’t one, you can apply for the trial version and get it sooner. ColorOS 16 rollout is in its final phase, with only a few devices left to receive the update. The list has now become even shorter as Oppo has released the update to three more mid-range smartphones: Oppo K13x, Oppo K12x, and Oppo Reno12 F.

As per the official announcement on the community page (1, 2, 3), the ColorOS 16 update for the Oppo K13x and Oppo K12x is rolling out in India, while the Oppo Reno12 F is receiving the update in Indonesia. The update will expand to other regions in the coming days and weeks.

Your Oppo phone must be running the required firmware version to be eligible for the ColorOS 16 update:

• Oppo K13x: CPH2753_16.0.3.500(EX01)
• Oppo K12x: CPH2667_16.0.3.500(EX01)
• Oppo Reno12 F: CPH2687_16.0.3.501(EX01)

If your Oppo smartphone is on the list and you belong to a supported region, the update may be ready for installation. Go to Settings > System & update > Software update to check for available updates.

Samsung has already released five One UI 8.5 beta builds for the Galaxy S25 trio, and it appears the brand is still not done with the beta testing. Just recently, a new beta build was spotted on the test server, which could be the sixth for the S25 series. Now, if you’re wondering whether a new beta will cause a delay to the stable release or when the stable update will arrive, then stick to the post as we dig deeper to find those answers.

The One UI 8.5 beta program went live in early December for the Galaxy S25 series. At regular intervals, Samsung continued to push more beta builds to fix bugs and enhance the software experience. The Beta 3, in particular, brought some hope of a quicker, stable release, as the build reportedly had a near-stable smoothness with no obvious bugs. However, Samsung wasn’t convinced.

The fourth beta landed in early February, and then the fifth one arrived this week. While these builds primarily aimed to improve software smoothness and squash previously discovered bugs, they also introduced a couple of new features. Beta 4 added Direct Voicemail, and Beta 5 debuted AI-powered Bixby. 

Samsung might release another One UI 8.5 beta soon, as a new build has just been spotted on the server (via Alfaturk) with firmware version ZZB7. This could go live next month as the sixth beta update for the Galaxy S25 series. We don’t know how many more are on the way. Last year, Samsung released seven One UI 8.0 beta builds before pushing the stable update. So, there could be one or two more beta builds for One UI 8.5 in the queue before we actually start receiving the stable update.

Samsung hasn’t announced when it will start rolling out the stable One UI 8.5 update. However, if past rollouts are anything to go by, we can expect the rollout to begin in late March 2026, starting with the Galaxy S25 series.

What are the major upgrades to One UI 8.5?

One UI 8.5 is still based on Android 16, but uses a newer build (QPR2), allowing Samsung to include deeper system-level features. Here are some of the major upgrades spotted in the beta builds released so far:

• More customizable Quick Settings: The improved Quick Settings panel in One UI 8.5 allows users to adjust the layout of every toggle and slider.

• Partial screen recording: This new feature captures a specific area of your phone rather than the entire screen.
• Improved Photo Assist: With the latest improvements, Photo Assist allows interrupted image generations without needing users to save each iteration.
• Storage Share: It lets you access files from other Galaxy devices, such as Galaxy tablets and PCs, directly within the My Files app on your smartphone.

The OxygenOS 16 update is now rolling out to the last eligible OnePlus device, the OnePlus Pad Lite. This entire rollout has been smooth, which began in early November with high-end devices like the OnePlus Open, OnePlus 13, and gradually expanded to mid-range and cheaper Nord CE models.

As shared by OnePlus in a post on the official community, the OxygenOS 16 update for the OnePlus Pad Lite is tagged with the firmware versions OPD2481_16.0.3.500(EX01) and OPD2480_16.0.3.500(EX01). It’s currently available in India as the initial rollout, but it will soon expand to the remaining regions.

If you’re rocking a OnePlus Pad Lite, navigate to Settings > System & Updates > Software update to manually check for the available update. If it doesn’t show up, you can join the OnePlus Release Candidate Program to reduce the wait time. For this, go to Settings > System & Updates > Software update > Beta Program and tap the “update now” button to download the update.

With the OnePlus Pad Lite now joining the OxygenOS 16 party, there’s no more OnePlus device left to receive this major upgrade. However, note that the rollout progresses in batches, so it may take some time to reach all users across all regions.

HyperOS 3 is one of the biggest upgrades to Xiaomi devices to date, bringing loads of new features and improvements across the system. It’s based on Android 16, but on top of that, Xiaomi has introduced several exciting and useful features in HyperOS 3 that make the stock Android feel like a less feature-rich update.

Here are the five HyperOS 3 features that make it better than stock Android.

1. HyperIsland with multitasking capabilities

Android 16 adds Live Updates to show ongoing tasks (delivery, ride, etc.) in the notification area and on the lock screen, but HyperOS 3 goes much further with HyperIsland. Xiaomi’s implementation features a dedicated pill-style hub at the top of the screen with the ability to show multiple live activities at once (up to three), letting users monitor several concurrent tasks simultaneously and interact with each individually.

HyperIsland offers rich inline controls (play/pause, call actions, accept/decline, navigation shortcuts, etc.) and supports gestures like tapping to expand and swiping to switch islands. What’s more interesting is that users can swipe down an island to open the related app into a floating window for instant multitasking. The Live Updates in Android 16 have fewer controls and don’t offer floating-window behavior for islands.

Xiaomi’s HyperIsland also offers better integration with system features and extends support to a wide range of third-party apps like WhatsApp, YouTube, and Spotify. At the same time, Android 16’s Live Updates work best with Google’s own apps and depend heavily on app developers to make the required changes.

2. Cinematic lock screen and AI dynamic wallpapers (with deeper editing)

HyperOS 3.0 focuses on offering a redefining lock-screen experience with new AI-assisted features and deeper customization, while stock Android 16 focuses more on core OS usability than on lock-screen creativity.

The new AI Cinematic Lock Screen feature in HyperOS 3 creates a story-like, cinematic effect each time you unlock, and the AI Dynamic Wallpapers feature transforms your photos into stunning cinematic visuals. HyperOS 3 also features smoother lock-screen transitions, like AOD to lock screen to home screen, making the lock screen feel more premium and lively.

In short, Android 16’s lock screen is clean and functional but less focused on creativity and personalization, but HyperOS 3 explicitly promotes personalized editing. 

3. Much stronger cross-ecosystem features, including Apple integration

HyperOS 3.0 excels at cross-device connectivity, especially with Apple devices, while stock Android 16 mostly focuses on bridging gaps among Android devices.

The “Touch to share” feature on HyperOS 3.0 now works with Apple devices too. So, you can now share photos, videos, files, and Wi-Fi passwords with Apple devices simply by touching both devices. Users can also run Xiaomi phone apps on iPad using the Home Screen+ feature with full support for iPad multitasking. Plus, they can unlock their Xiaomi devices using Touch ID or Face ID.

Apple devices can connect to a Xiaomi hotspot with just one tap. Additionally, users can instantly locate their Xiaomi phones from Apple devices, further strengthening Xiaomi’s cross-ecosystem capabilities.

4. HyperAI for smarter writing, transcription, and translation

HyperOS 3.0 provides a suite of AI features as a part of HyperAI, while stock Android 16 relies on Google apps (Gemini, Translate, Photos, etc.) to deliver the most visible AI features.

The AI Writing feature in HyperOS 3.0 can rewrite text in multiple styles, generate captions for images, and features a “DeepThink mode” for longer content in Notes. The AI Speech Recognition helps reduce background noise, convert speech to text while recording, and generate an instant summary when the recording ends.

HyperAI also offers AI Search to search the web for instant answers, generate AI summaries of search results, and find on-device content quickly, while the AI Translate feature does live interpretation for calls/meetings, bilingual subtitles by transcribing and translating audio, and an offline mode for face-to-face conversation translation.

5. Stronger privacy and security layer

The stock Android 16 features Android Protection, which layers multiple protections, such as Theft Detection Lock, offline device lock, USB protection, and anti-scam safeguards. Many of them are also available on Xiaomi devices running HyperOS 3, but the software also includes several security features developed by Xiaomi that are not present in stock Android 16.

HyperOS 3 offers Quantum-level data protection for protection against future quantum attacks on communications. It also features Edge-to-cloud AI data security, ensuring data stays private with on-device and cloud privacy computing, and MiTEE‑powered security protocols for interconnectivity.

So, HyperOS 3.0, based on Android 16, is a pretty significant upgrade for Xiaomi devices, bringing plenty of additional features and improvements over stock Android 16.

When will Samsung roll out the One UI 8.5 update?

Samsung will release One UI 8.5 with the Galaxy S26 series, which is set to launch in late February. The latest Galaxy flagships will go on sale starting early March. A few weeks after that, Samsung will begin rolling out older Galaxy devices.

While the exact date of the One UI 8.5 rollout is yet to be announced, reports suggest it could begin towards the end of April.

Meanwhile, Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra users are already getting an early taste of One UI 8.5 via the beta program. The first beta build was released in early December, and then a few more beta builds were released at regular intervals.

Unfortunately, Samsung hasn’t expanded the beta program beyond the S25 series, and it doesn’t appear to be changing soon. That means other Galaxy devices may receive the stable build directly. Then, it will expand to other high-end devices, followed by mid-range and cheaper models.

The company has just updated the MFN Beta Testing page, showing that the Android 16 beta program is now open for four more devices: Edge 2024, Edge 40 Pro, Edge+ 2023, and Moto G35 5G. The beta program is available in select regions as mentioned in the following list:

Vivo is gradually pushing the OriginOS 6 update to the final phase of eligible devices. The Vivo V40e and iQOO Z9s also belong to this phase and have now started receiving the Android 16-based major upgrade.

The Motorola Razr 60 Ultra has begun receiving its stable Android 16 update, ending months of waiting for owners of the foldable. This major update is bringing various improvements and a bunch of fixes. So here’s everything you need to know.

Motorola Razr 60 Ultra Receives Android 16 Update

As of right now, Motorola is rolling out the update to Razr 60 Ultra models in Brazil. The roll out brings a host of platform-level improvements, from refined system modes and better connectivity shortcuts to broader audio device support and enhanced protections. The OTA software upgrade carries the W1VL36H.59-55-5 firmware version and brings the foldable up to the latest major Android iteration, after launching the device with Android 15.

As is typical with major updates, the rollout is being released in a staggered manner. So some users may receive the notification sooner than others, depending on the region and carrier. So if you don’t see the update yet, you can check manually by going into Settings → System → Software updates and tapping Check for updates. The new build for the Razr 60 Ultra brings several enhancements that improve both usability and everyday functionality:

• Unified Modes Menu: Android 16 reorganizes system modes like Do Not Disturb, Bedtime, and Driving Mode into a single settings area, and lets you create custom presets for different scenarios.
• Simplified Hotspot Connections: When your phone and the target device share the same Google account, you can now connect to Wi-Fi hotspots with a single tap, without entering a password
• Improved Hearing Aid Support: The update introduces low-energy audio hearing aid improvements, allowing you to choose whether your built-in mic or the hearing aid’s mic is used during calls for clearer communication.

Furthermore, the Android 16 release brings the latest security patches and a host of improvements to system stability and performance to the Razr 60 Ultra.

Lenovo has begun rolling out the Android 16 update to its Idea Tab, bringing one of the platform’s most substantial upgrades since launch. This tablet first debuted with the Android 15 OS, and the latest update brings various new features designed to improve productivity.

Lenovo Releases Android 16 Update for Idea Tab

Lenovo’s Android 16 rollout for the Idea Tab brings a significant package of system-level improvements and fresh features that go beyond a simple security patch. The update is a sizeable OTA update that not only bumps the operating system, but also incorporates a bunch of enhancements. Among the new capabilities are Live updates for richer notifications, a desktop window mode to better manage multiple apps side-by-side, and enhanced group notifications that help keep alerts organized.

Other additions include an embedded photo picker, APV codec support for improved media handling, predictive back navigation, HDR screenshots, and an Advanced Protection Mode for elevated security. The update also brings the latest monthly security patch and fixes for known issues from earlier software versions. Lenovo’s Android 16 update for the Idea Tab carries the BP2A.250605.031.A3 build version. Keep in mind, users should ensure they have a strong Wi-Fi connection and sufficient storage before installing the update.

Lenovo notes that the rollout is phased, meaning it may take a few days to reach all devices worldwide. Those who haven’t yet received the notification can manually check for the update via Settings > System > Software Update. Apart from the major software upgrade, users also fixed a bunch of bugs and known issues. The OriginOS 6 rollout began in early November, and so far, it has already reached almost two dozen eligible devices. Most importantly, the rollout has been smooth and mostly on time. However, given the company’s large smartphone portfolio, a bunch of Vivo and iQOO devices are still waiting for this major upgrade.

This is the global rollout plan for OriginOS 6. Many of the devices have already received the update, which we’ve marked as “released”. If your device hasn’t received it yet, it should arrive within the first quarter, which means by March 2026.

Note that the rollout usually happens in batches, so it may take a few days to a few weeks for the update to reach all the users. Even if your device is mentioned on the list with a “released” tag but no new update shows up, don’t worry. The update may arrive anytime soon. Go to Settings > About Phone > System updates to manually check for updates.

However, if your Vivo or iQOO device is not on the rollout schedule, it will not receive the OriginOS 6 update. In that case, you may want to upgrade to a newer model to ensure the device will continue to receive major upgrades. Here’s a list of devices that promise up to four major Android OS updates.
