<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung</a> Display has scored a significant victory in its legal dispute with Chinese display maker BOE. The US International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled in favor of Samsung, finding that BOE had infringed on three of its OLED-related patents.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1000" height="500" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/samsung-logo.webp?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-661075" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/samsung-logo.webp 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/samsung-logo-300x150.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/samsung-logo-768x384.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/samsung-logo-696x348.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/samsung-logo-840x420.webp 840w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></figure></div>

<p>The ruling comes after Samsung accused BOE and other companies of patent infringement in December 2022. While the ITC has yet to impose a ban on BOE&#8217;s products, the preliminary decision gives Samsung a strong advantage as the case moves towards a final verdict in March 2025.</p>

<p>This legal battle is part of a broader strategic move by Samsung to maintain its dominance in the display technology market. Earlier this year, Samsung severed its business ties with BOE, a major supplier of LCD panels. This decision not only impacts BOE&#8217;s revenue but also signals Samsung&#8217;s commitment to protecting its intellectual property.</p>

<p>The impact of this case extends beyond Samsung and BOE. For Samsung, the ITC ruling solidifies its position as a leader in OLED technology and serves as a warning to competitors. BOE, on the other hand, faces potential financial challenges due to the loss of Samsung as a customer.</p>

<p>The broader display industry is also affected. Companies like LG Display, Sharp, and AUO stand to benefit from Samsung&#8217;s shift away from BOE. LG Display, in particular, is ramping up production to capitalize on the increased demand.</p>

<p>The outcome of the ITC&#8217;s final decision in 2025 will have far-reaching consequences. For Samsung, a favorable ruling could further strengthen its market position. For BOE, the challenge lies in mitigating the impact of the legal case and the loss of a major customer.</p>

<p>If you are an avid follower of Gizmochina, I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;ve heard the name BOE many times before. This company, which specializes in the development and production of display panels, collaborates with many manufacturers, including Apple. Who knows, maybe even the device you&#8217;re reading this on was produced by them. Considering BOE is ranked first in the world by shipments of LCD panels for smartphones, tablets, notebooks, monitors, and TVs, this possibility is quite high. Furthermore, the number of display patents BOE holds in the USA further confirms their success. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>BOE Surpasses LG to Become Second Largest Display Patent Holder in US</strong></h2>

<p>We know that BOE is already a significant player in the global display market. They produce screens for a wide range of products, from entry-level to flagship devices. However, this success is no accident. According to a South Korean lawyer, BOE ranks second in the number of display panel patents registered in the US, only behind Samsung Display. This is an impressive feat, especially considering the US is a major market for display panels.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="538" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/boe-display-us-patent-number-1024x538.jpg?x10805" alt="BOE OLED" class="wp-image-570480" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/boe-display-us-patent-number-1024x538.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/boe-display-us-patent-number-300x158.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/boe-display-us-patent-number-768x403.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/boe-display-us-patent-number-1536x806.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/boe-display-us-patent-number-696x365.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/boe-display-us-patent-number-1068x561.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/boe-display-us-patent-number-800x420.jpg 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/boe-display-us-patent-number.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>BOE&#8217;s patent portfolio includes patents on a wide range of display technologies, such as OLED displays, LCD displays, and touch displays. The company has also been granted patents for its display manufacturing processes. The companies strong patent portfolio gives it a competitive advantage in the US market. It also allows the company to license its patents to other companies, which generates additional revenue.</p>

<p>However, it is important to note that BOE&#8217;s patents have been challenged by other companies, such as Samsung Display. In 2020, 2021, and 2022, BOE had 280, 300, and 337 patents rejected by the US Patent and Trademark Office due to Samsung Display&#8217;s existing patents. Of course, encountering issues with new technologies is common. Even Apple sometimes faces patent lawsuits. It doesn&#8217;t seem like these challenges will stop BOE. </p>

<p>In fact, experts suggest that if the number of patent applications continues to increase at this rate, BOE might surpass Samsung Display in a short time. If this happens, the South Korean manufacturer would lose its leadership position to a Chinese company. Nonetheless, all we can do is wait and see how things unfold.</p>

<p>It has been a race by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to shift the boundaries of the display refresh rates in their products. It seems ages ago when the 60Hz displays berthed. Currently, some laptops like the Alienware XT7 R2 have a 480Hz display refresh rate. The gaming industry is however still desirous of higher refresh rates which will be beneficial to most AAA titles. BOE is working towards satisfying the growing crowd of gaming enthusiasts.</p>

<p>BOE is showcasing several display technologies at the World Display Industry Conference. The lineup of innovative BOE offerings includes the 34-inch ultra-wide Mini-LED gaming screen with 165Hz refresh rate, Z-shape folding smartphone displays, and a 16-inch 600Hz laptop screen. The 600Hz display also comes with 1.66ms fps. The laptop could use TN or IPS panels and either FHD or FHD+ display resolution. The aspect ratio of the 600Hz laptop is 16 10. The exact specifications of these impressive displays are not yet known.</p>

<p>It will be interesting to see the new displays debut in an actual product but this could be a few years away. Last year, BOE announced its 27-inch 500Hz display but it is yet to enter the market. BOE had said that a 500Hz refresh rate would be possible through an 8-lane eDP connection. However, industry experts have pointed out that a 600Hz panel will need a DisplayPort 2.0 connection to operate. Possibly BOE could be working on an innovative stream compression technology to accommodate the monster refresh rate.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/boe/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">BOE </a>has just unveiled its new breed of MLED display technology. The new display is a breakthrough in its efforts to improve the transparent display technology. So here are all the details.</p>

<p>For those unaware, transparent screens have been available for the consumer market in the ultra high end segments. It has even had applications in the commercial sectors and has also been useful in supporting other technologies like augmented reality. But despite all of this, they have had some limiting factors apart from their huge price tags. However, it seems that BOE is addressing many of the woes of transparent displays with its new MLED panel technology.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/401f005c_be68_48a8_b8b3_c0e7bcbc902c-1024x576.webp?x10805" alt="BOE" class="wp-image-492618" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/401f005c_be68_48a8_b8b3_c0e7bcbc902c-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/401f005c_be68_48a8_b8b3_c0e7bcbc902c-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/401f005c_be68_48a8_b8b3_c0e7bcbc902c-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/401f005c_be68_48a8_b8b3_c0e7bcbc902c-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/401f005c_be68_48a8_b8b3_c0e7bcbc902c-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/401f005c_be68_48a8_b8b3_c0e7bcbc902c-746x420.webp 746w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/401f005c_be68_48a8_b8b3_c0e7bcbc902c.webp 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>So far, transparent panels function as both a window and a billboard display due to discrepancies in their pixel structure or circuitry. Although, the Chinese display maker has announced the new MLED screens that offer improvements in both of these aspects. BOE has claimed that it has worked out how to space and connect its pixels in a manner that is better for displays to function as a transparent panel.</p>

<p>Thanks to this, the company claims that it has achieved an optimization result in transmittance that now hits up to 65 percent. This figure is on the regions of the MLED programmed to be opaque. BOE has also stated that its new MLED display technology can hit brightness of up to 1,000 nit and a contrast rtio of 1:100,000 under certain circumstances as well. In other words, this could be the new and improved future of the transparent displays.</p>

<p>Although 8K display screens are not among the tp-selling smart TV at the moment, BOE is likely envisioning a proliferation in 8K displays in no distant time. The 8K display has a resolution of up to 7680&#215;4320 pixels. It also comes with a display contrast ratio of 1 million to 1 as well support for a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 99% DCI-P3 wide color gamut.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/boe-95-inch-8K-OLED-monitor12.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-460288" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/boe-95-inch-8K-OLED-monitor12.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="322" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/boe-95-inch-8K-OLED-monitor12.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/boe-95-inch-8K-OLED-monitor12-300x161.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The new 95-inch OLED screen adopts an 8K high aperture ratio based on transparent capacitive pixel design, which effectively improves the aperture ratio of the backplane. The TV also packs an ultra-narrow frame design. Under the condition of ensuring a high charging rate and high uniformity of the backplane, the display peak brightness can reach 800nits, while the average brightness is 150nits which is said to be an industry-leading level.</p>
<p>Furthermore, the smart display is equipped with HDR algorithm based on the OLED &#8220;true black&#8221; display effect, This enables it to achieve millions of ultra-high contrast ratios and 10 bits of color depth.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/boe-95-inch-8K-OLED-monitor.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-460289" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/boe-95-inch-8K-OLED-monitor.jpg?x10805" alt="boe-95-inch 8K OLED monitor" width="600" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/boe-95-inch-8K-OLED-monitor.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/boe-95-inch-8K-OLED-monitor-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/boe-95-inch-8K-OLED-monitor-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/boe-95-inch-8K-OLED-monitor-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/boe-95-inch-8K-OLED-monitor-560x420.jpg 560w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The 95-inch OLED display uses BOE&#8217;s super-large OLED oxide backplane technology, based on a series of technologies such as ultra-thick metal deposition technology, deep hole etching technology, and oxide TFT structure optimization. It is equipped with a drive compensation algorithm to further improve the uniformity and stability of the super-large 8K resolution OLED display in other to achieve the desired quality and to ensure pictures moving through the display at a high speed do not get smeared.</p>
<p>The is yet another leading product for BOE in terms of super-large OLEDs after its remarkable exploits in the liquid crystal display (LCD ) field.</p>

<p><figure id="attachment_451107" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-451107" style="width: 684px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-451107 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Galaxy-A23-1.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung Galaxy A23 4G" width="684" height="547" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Galaxy-A23-1.jpg 684w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Galaxy-A23-1-300x240.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Galaxy-A23-1-525x420.jpg 525w" sizes="(max-width: 684px) 100vw, 684px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-451107" class="wp-caption-text">Samsung Galaxy A23 4G</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>According to a <a href="http://www.businesskorea.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=90353" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">BusinessKorea</a> report, the Chinese display maker <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/boe/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">BOE</a> will provide the displays in the Galaxy A13 and A23 series smartphones starting May 2022.</p>
<p>But that&#8217;s not all as industry insiders have said that Samsung has proposed that BOE produces the display panels for its next-gen flagship smartphones. But as we know, the Samsung flagships feature the cutting edge LTPO technology OLED panels, and to meet their standards, Samsung Electronics has requested BOE to verify its technology first. Experts on the matter have stated that meeting the technical quality requirements such as thermal shocks and life tests will be the make or break of this potential deal.</p>
<p>As we know, Samsung is the main supplier of foldable display panels right now, so the Korean giant might be looking to free up some production capacity for their foldable panels by outsourcing the production of regular LCD and OLED panels from China&#8217;s BOE. On the topic of foldable, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is rumored to debut this year in the month of August. Additionally, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/03/17/google-pixel-notepad-foldable-smartphone-production-q3-2022/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Google Pixel NotePad</a> foldable smartphone is said to enter production in Q3 2022, so Samsung will likely need all the production capacity it can muster to keep up with the demand.</p>

<p>BOE Innovation Exchange&#8217;s official Weibo account made a post a few days back detailing the important breakthrough the company made in the field of oxide semiconductor display technology. The breakthrough saw the display maker overcome industry problems such as the ease of Copper (Cu) getting diffused, oxidized, and drilled.</p>
<p>BOE took the lead in the industry to realize the mass production of copper interconnect stack structure, and the integration of high refresh rate, high resolution, low power oxide display technology, breaking Samsung&#8217;s monopoly. The company also continues to launch low power consumption, ultra-narrow bezel OLED panels in the industry, including the 500Hz+ gaming display, variable frequency refresh rate display, and a series of high-end technologies and products.</p>
<p>The new prototype is a 27-inch oxide FHD 500 Hz+ display said to be the world&#8217;s highest refresh rate display. According to reports, this monitor uses a high mobility Oxide backplane, supports 8Lane eDP output, true 8bit output, and has a 1ms response.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/boe.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-440622" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/boe.png?x10805" alt="BOE" width="458" height="376" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/boe.png 458w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/boe-300x246.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 458px) 100vw, 458px" /></a></p>
<p>The tech giant also disclosed that it has creatively developed copper diffusion barrier technology, and proposed a unique theory of nitrogen and oxygen balance and interface repair. It is the first to achieve mass production in China.</p>
<p>The new display is yet to be mass-produced. In fact, the company is yet to say if it plans to start producing the 500Hz+ display anytime soon. When it does, it will beat other displays from gaming hardware manufacturers like Alienware, ASUS, and Acer who can only boast of 360Hz displays. The industry may not be ready for such a refresh rate, though, as the computer hardware required to run this kind of display isn&#8217;t rampant.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-374073 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display.jpg?x10805" alt="BOE Display" width="1112" height="608" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display.jpg 1112w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display-300x164.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display-768x420.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display-1024x560.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display-696x381.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display-1068x584.jpg 1068w" sizes="(max-width: 1112px) 100vw, 1112px" /></p>
<p>According to a <a href="https://pandaily.com/boes-6th-gen-amoled-flexible-production-line-officially-starts-mass-production/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>PanDaily</em> </a>report, the known Chinese display maker is planning on expanding its flexible displays portfolio. The cutting edge production line will join other manufacturing sites in Chengdu and Mianyang. During the mass production ceremony, BOE President, Liu Xiaodong stated that &#8220;In the current information and digital age, new application markets such as smart mobile terminals, smart wearable devices, and smart connected cars are showing explosive growth trends. This is increasing the demand for high end display technologies such as flexible displays.&#8221;</p>
<p>As of right now, the company already has 6 key projects operating in Chongqing, with the latest 6th generation flexible AMOLED production line being one of them. It even has its 8.5 generation of TFT LCD panel line and the BOE Chongqing Smart System Innovation Center in the region as well. All of these facilities combined are estimated to include around 86 billion Yuan (roughly 13.5 billion US Dollars) in terms of investment.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-379349 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display-1.jpg?x10805" alt="BOE" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display-1.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display-1-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>Furthermore, the latest 6th gen flexible AMOLED production line covers a massive area of 970,000 square meters. This facility is also independently designed and developed by BOE, with the panels being produced set to target small and medium sized high end display markets. In other words, we can expect to see the new flexible panels in a number of new consumer electronic products sometime next year.</p>

The company used to rank behind LG in this aspect of LCD panel shipments but last year, it beat LG to emerge as the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/09/02/boe-beats-lg-emerge-worlds-largest-lcd-manufacturer-2020/">world&#8217;s largest LCD manufacturer</a>. That is most likely because LG has shifted its focus to OLED display panels. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/BOE.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-298356" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/BOE.jpg?x10805" alt="BOE" width="705" height="470" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/BOE.jpg 705w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/BOE-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/BOE-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/BOE-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 705px) 100vw, 705px" /></a>BOE is also making inroads into the AMOLED market. The company first showed off its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/10/27/chinas-boe-display-technology-shows-off-flexible-amoled-displays/">flexible AMOLED panels in 2017</a>. Since then, it had commenced mass production. The latest report by the company on its investors&#8217; platform shows that overall flexible AMOLED shipments continued to increase. The company disclosed it shipped an estimated 40 million units in the first three quarters of 2021, that is Q1, Q2, and Q3. This result shows the company has continued to maintain substantial year-on-year growth.</p>
<p>At the same time, BOE also disclosed that it has supplied many of the top electronics companies with flexible AMOLED panels. It is also looking to expand its brand customers to more product series. In the future, with the increase in customer demand and the smooth climb of the flexible AMOLED production line, product shipments are expected to continue to grow rapidly.</p>

The report covers LCD panels used for <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/smart-tv">smart TV</a> and shows that China’s BOE Technology Group overtook LG Display to emerge as the number one manufacturer in this segment for the first time.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/boe-2.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-409997" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/boe-2.png?x10805" alt="BOE Display" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/boe-2.png 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/boe-2-300x200.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The data shows that BOE’s share in 2020 reached 22.9%, an increase of 2.2% from 2019. The LCD market used to be LG Display&#8217;s stronghold but BOE supposed the Korean company surpassing LG Display, which was previously ranked first.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/boe.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-409968" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/boe.jpg?x10805" alt="BOE" width="450" height="698" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/boe.jpg 450w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/boe-193x300.jpg 193w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/boe-271x420.jpg 271w" sizes="(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px" /></a></p>
<p>LG Display’s share fell to 17.2% which is a 6.7% reduction from the 23.9% market share recorded in 2019. The third spot is occupied by Taiwanese display maker AU Optronics with 11.9%. Cumulatively, the top 3 large LCD makers control 52% of the market in the period under review.</p>
<p><span class="">Apart form BOE technology, another Chinese company in the top 5 ranking is TCL&#8217;s China Star Optoelectronics which saw a 2.5% increase in its shipment to emerged as the fifth largest large LCD manufacturer with an</span><span class=""> </span><span class="">8.8</span><span class=""> % share of the market. The Chinese company edged out Samsung from the 5th spot which it occupied in 2019. What Samsung loses in the LCD market, it will surely gain in OLED panel shipments as it is ranked as the leading manufacturer of OLED panels.</span></p>
<p>It is worth mentioning that, according to data from the research firm CINNO Research, in the first half of 2021, global LCD TV panel shipments reached 130 million units, an increase of 2.5% year-on-year. That means the LCD market will once again see a record shipment this year and Chinese manufacturers will likely take the larger share of the market.</p>

Most of Samsung&#8217;s smartphones have displays supplied by its display arm, Samsung Display and it is expected that the flexible OLED displays from BOE would be at par with the South Korean display industry-standard even at a possibly lower cost.</p>
<p>The flexible OLED display technology is a growing area of interest within the market and this holds a lot of promise. A flexible OLED display uses technology and materials different from the fixed glass display commonly available. It is based on a flexible substrate (plastic) material that makes it possible for it to bend. Flexible displays are relatively lighter and thinner in addition to their higher degree of freedom for bending.</p>
<p>It is speculated that the Galaxy M series of economy smartphones with BOE&#8217;s flexible display would be launched in the second half of the year, with production processes slated to begin by July. The choice of BOE, known to be supported by the Chinese government, to provide OLED displays for the Galaxy M series, ahead of established Korean manufacturers may be indicative of the progress BOE has made since the US ban on Huawei, which affected it adversely due to its collaboration with Huawei. However, the new realignment with Samsung will certainly draw the attention of other phone makers as they continue to seek ways to cut cost after the COVID-19 pandemic.</p>
<p>Samsung has not made any formal statement yet to confirm or debunk the story at this time.</p>

The brnad&#8217;s growth is among other things,, traceable to its high innovativeness. In this light, the display maker has unveiled the world&#8217;s first flexible display that folds up to 360 degrees. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-374073" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display.jpg?x10805" alt="BOE Display" width="1112" height="608" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display.jpg 1112w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display-300x164.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display-768x420.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display-1024x560.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display-696x381.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/boe-display-1068x584.jpg 1068w" sizes="(max-width: 1112px) 100vw, 1112px" /></a></p>
<p>The display which is already being mass-produced utilises a flexible screen both on the outside and inside. The flexible display by BOE adopts a multi-neutral layer model design, which effectively reduces the stress of flexible &#8220;outside fold&#8221; and &#8220;inside fold&#8221;. The display is also able to realize a low crease effect on both the in-fold and out-fold aspects. The display can be folded up to 200,000 times without an hassle.</p>
<p>Currently, BOE has reportedly achieved mass production of R5 200,000-fold outward-folding displays and R3 200,000-fold in-folding displays, and supplies to domestic first-tier smartphone manufacturers. In addition to the flexible outer-folding and flexible in-folding displays that have been mass-produced, BOE has also deployed flexible sliding roll and now, flexible 360° folding technology.</p>
<p>From the official display, BOE&#8217;s flexible 360° folding technology breaks through the limitation of the single-direction folding of the display module, and achieves a 360° folding form whereby it can be folded in, left open and folded out completely. We expect the display to be shipped to manufacturers soon so as to find its way into foldable phones in the near future.</p>

At the event, Chinese display manufacturer BOE Technologies has unveiled several innovative display technologies and solutions such as flexible AMOLED, Mini-LEDs, and under-screen cameras.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-333395" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="379" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-300x190.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The most captivating products are the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/03/boe-reportedly-developing-a-27-inch-4k-hdr-mini-led-display/">expected</a> 27-inch Mini LED alongside a 15.6-inch Mini LED both of which attracted great attention. BOE&#8217;s Mini LED products can achieve a million-level ultra-high contrast ratio and provide a more pure and natural display effect. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-2.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-333396" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-2.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-2.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-2-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-2-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-2-560x420.jpg 560w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>Mini-LED is a new display technology that promises improved contrast ratios and deeper blacks compared to LCD panels that are lit with regular LEDs (light-emitting diodes). As the name suggests, mini-LEDs are a lot smaller than regular LEDs. Diodes that are smaller than 0.2 mm are generally classed as mini-LEDs.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-3.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-333397" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-3.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-3.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-3-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-3-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-3-560x420.jpg 560w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The emerging display technology is touted to be the next-generation display technology and it is presently the focus of local manufacturers in China. There are even speculations that Apple is planning to utilise Mini LEDs on its upcoming products in order to solve the problem of OLED burn-in and improve product durability. A shift to mini LEDs will also help to reduce its dependence on Samsung, the dominant player in the OLED industry.</p>
<p>Also, the company unveiled a 32:9 ultra-wide OLED curved display, an outer folding screen and a flexible OLED notebook display with a narrow bezel.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-4.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-333398" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-4.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="385" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-4.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-4-300x193.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>Yet another innovative product showcased at the tech show is a flexible screen with under-screen camera technology. The under-screen camera technology erases the style of using a notch or hole-punch design and also delivers an immersive user experience.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-7.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-333401" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-7.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="396" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-7.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-7-300x198.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>Furthermore, the company took the wraps off a 3D face recognition technology implemented under the display which offers users a new, smarter and more convenient way of unlocking gadgets using face detection.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-5.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-333399" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-5.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-5.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-5-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-5-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-5-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/boe-display-5-560x420.jpg 560w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>Finally, BOE also brought a 75-inch, 110-inch 8K BD Cell display, innovatively applying total reflection display technology to tablet computers, e-books, TVs, outdoor advertising machines, bus stop signs and other fields.</p>

Leading Chinese display maker <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/boe-display">BOE</a> is reportedly developing a 27-inch 4K display with a 2048- zone mini LED backlight.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/boe-display-3.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-160111" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/boe-display-3.jpg?x10805" alt="BOE display" width="600" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/boe-display-3.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/boe-display-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/boe-display-3-160x120.jpg 160w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>Mini-LED is a new display technology that promises improved contrast ratios and deeper blacks compared to LCD panels that are lit with regular LEDs (light-emitting diodes). As the name suggests, mini-LEDs are a lot smaller than regular LEDs. Diodes that are smaller than 0.2 mm are generally classed as mini-LEDs.</p>
<p>With the exit of South Korea ’s <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> and <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/lg">LG</a> from the LCD market and the focus on LED which has resulted in a reduction of LCD production, Chinese manufacturers are looking to revive the industry and they are turning to mini-LEDs. There are speculations that mini-LED technology is the future of LCD panels production and could help engineer a surge ahead of OLED.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/boe-display.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-314736" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/boe-display.jpg?x10805" alt="BOE display" width="600" height="360" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/boe-display.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/boe-display-300x180.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>BOE ’s mini-LED technology has been under development for some time. Currently, it is moving from the first generation of mini LED with PCB as the backplane to the second generation of matrix glass backplane technology, which can support more dimming areas.</p>
<p>The 27 -inch 4K display panel BOE is reportedly working on is said to support 64&#215;32 array, which is 2048 partitions. The mini-LED backlight has a brightness while the peak brightness reached 1000nit. The display also supports HDR.</p>
<p>Apart from the brightness, other indicators of this display are also very high. The 10-bit panel supports 99% DCI-P3 color gamut. However, the refresh rate and response time are not mentioned. Mass production is yet to commence so the price is still unknown but we don&#8217;t expect it to be cheap. The price will likely be lower than LEDs though.</p>

Most high-end smartphones in various brands now feature these types of displays over<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ips-display-screen/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> IPS LCD panels</a>. Now, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/boe/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">BOE</a> is planning on increasing its production capacity by 200% which will see the shipments rise to 70 million units to meet the rising demands.</p>
<p>BOE is one of the major suppliers of the AMOLED panels. Currently, there is a booming surge of demand for this type of display. A number of smartphone manufacturers have also started including AMOLED displays in their mid-range handsets offerings as well. Hence, the rise of production capacity from BOE. Additionally, the company will also not be investing LCD displays in the near future.</p>

<p>At present, BOE has three 6th generation flexible AMOLED manufacturing plants. One is the Chengdu plant that has mass-produced and shipped since 2017; second is the Mianyang plant that starting shipping this July while the third is the Chongqing plant that started construction last year (commission in 2020).</p>

BOE has been striving to catch up with Samsung and has now included Micro LEDs to its product development.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/microLED.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-288887" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/microLED.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="728" height="411" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/microLED.jpg 728w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/microLED-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/microLED-696x393.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px" /></a></p>
<p>Chinese tech blog IThomes quotes DigiTimes to have reported that BOE has started mass production of MicroLED panels in Kunming, Yunnan Province of China. The report states that mass production started in October this year and the company is looking for partners in MicroLED applications.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>EDITOR&#8217;S PICK: <a title="Elephone 11.11 deals are up and running, Elephone PX shows up in another beautiful color" href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/11/11/elephone-11-11-deals-are-up-and-running-elephone-px-shows-up-in-another-beautiful-color/" rel="bookmark">Elephone 11.11 deals are up and running, Elephone PX shows up in another beautiful color</a></strong></h6>
<p>BOE had in May of this year demonstrated its innovative technology and solutions such as the 0.39-inch Micro-OLED AR with the highest 5644 PPI in the world at SID Display Week 2019. The microLED display was originally developed for use in telescopes, but BOE is now using it for AR/VR glasses, first-person view angle (FPV) goggles and projectors for drones.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400">MicroLED uses self-emission backlight just like OLED panels, unlike the traditional LCD displays which require LED backlight modules to emit light through layers from behind to generate images.</p>
<p style="font-weight: 400">Micro LED can achieve effects such as very high contrast, extremely deep blacks, and fast response time just like OLED. However, Micro LED has higher brightness and is more stable than OLED because of its inorganic nature. In other words, red, green, and blue Micro LED pixels do not have luminance decay issues. Compared with that, each OLED pixel more or less suffers from luminance decay and the speed of decay varies. Despite these superior features, it may take a long time before microLED gains prominence over OLED. Samsung had deployed the technology on its The Wall TV but there have not been so many applications after that.</p>

The Chinese company is the supplier for the flexible display used in <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a>&#8216;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-p30-pro/">P30 Pro</a> flagship.</p>
<p>BOE seems to have been hard at work thinking of the next phase for its displays. At a display show that was held recently, the display manufacturer demoed a petty neat rollable display alongside several other products. However, it is the rollable display that we are really excited about.</p>
<p>Tech Blog &#8211; <em>armdevices </em>was at the event and they were able to get a look at the rollable display and the other cool products on display.</p>
<p><iframe loading="lazy" width="696" height="392" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/VsxpUZaggcw?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>When unrolled, the prototype screen becomes a 12.3-inch device and when rolled back, its form factor is similar to that of a 7-inch tablet. The prototype doesn&#8217;t support touch-input but BOE says they will be working on one with touch-support in the future.</p>
<p>Rollable displays are not entirely new, though they are not yet in mass production. LG demoed a rollable TV at CES 2019 that was the star attraction of the show. It will take a while before it becomes mainstream and a little more time before it comes to smartphones and other portable devices.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-119996" src="https://i0.wp.com/liliputing.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/boe.jpg?resize=700%2C395&amp;ssl=1" sizes="(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/liliputing.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/boe.jpg?resize=700%2C395&amp;ssl=1 700w, https://i0.wp.com/liliputing.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/boe.jpg?resize=125%2C71&amp;ssl=1 125w, https://i0.wp.com/liliputing.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/boe.jpg?resize=250%2C141&amp;ssl=1 250w, https://i0.wp.com/liliputing.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/boe.jpg?resize=768%2C433&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/liliputing.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/boe.jpg?resize=200%2C113&amp;ssl=1 200w, https://i0.wp.com/liliputing.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/boe.jpg?resize=150%2C85&amp;ssl=1 150w, https://i0.wp.com/liliputing.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/boe.jpg?w=900&amp;ssl=1 900w" alt="" width="700" height="395" data-attachment-id="119996" data-permalink="https://liliputing.com/2019/06/foldables-are-so-2019-boe-unveils-12-3-inch-rollable-display-for-next-gen-smartphones.html/boe" data-orig-file="https://i0.wp.com/liliputing.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/boe.jpg?fit=900%2C508&amp;ssl=1" data-orig-size="900,508" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="boe" data-image-description="" data-medium-file="https://i0.wp.com/liliputing.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/boe.jpg?fit=250%2C141&amp;ssl=1" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/liliputing.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/boe.jpg?fit=700%2C395&amp;ssl=1" data-recalc-dims="1" /></p>
<p>BOE also demoed HUDs and in-car displays at the event. The prototype car is shown to have a single long display for its dashboard which stretches from the driver&#8217;s side to the other end of the dashboard. The display shows the usual car parameters on one side, navigation details in the middle and an entertainment section for the front passenger. On the far ends are side mirrors which are also part of the single display.</p>
<p>We also see a foldable smartphone with a flexible display that folds outward. When folded it becomes a phone with a 6-inch display and a 7.7-inch tablet when unfolded.</p>
<p>Another interesting device seen at the show is a TV with a display technology made to rival OLEDs. BOE worked with Hisense on a new type of display called BD Cell. The display is a combination of two types of cell &#8211; the main cell which is the main color panel for the pictures and a sub-cell which is a black and white cell that provides the backlight and pixel-level local dimming.</p>
<p>When combined, the result is the BD Cell which offers up to OLED-level quality for a cheaper price. The contrast and picture quality are significantly better than LCD while still managing to be pretty slim.</p>
<p>There was also a 27-inch monitor with the same BD Cell technology on display. It has a resolution of 3840 x 2160, a contrast ratio of 20,000:1, 460 nits of brightness, and is just 10.8 millimeter&#8217;s thick.</p>

Apple is one of the major clients for Samsung&#8217;s OLED panels as the U.S tech giant used OLED screen for the first time on the iPhone X. The growing popularity of Samsung&#8217;s OLED panels has precipitated companies like JDI and BOE, two leading names in LCD displays to shift towards OLED panel manufacture.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/boe-display-3.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-160111" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/boe-display-3.jpg?x10805" alt="BOE display" width="600" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/boe-display-3.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/boe-display-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/boe-display-3-160x120.jpg 160w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>We have now spotted what are said to be photos of BOE&#8217;s latest OLED display prototype. This is coming up at a time there are speculations that more smartphone would be launched using the full-screen OLED technology. It was recently reported that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/11/29/chinas-boe-aims-secure-huge-deal-oled-panels-apple/">BOE was eyeing a deal with Apple for OLED panels</a>. That may not be a difficult deal to seal because Apple will no doubt like to deal with rival Samsung from a distance.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/boe-display-2.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-160110" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/boe-display-2.jpg?x10805" alt="BOE display" width="600" height="450" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/boe-display-2.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/boe-display-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/boe-display-2-160x120.jpg 160w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000">Read Also:</span> <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/10/27/chinas-boe-display-technology-shows-off-flexible-amoled-displays/">China’s BOE Display Technology Shows Off Flexible AMOLED Displays</a></strong></p>
<p>The newly leaked BOE&#8217;s OLED panels look very much like the iPhone X&#8217;s. Perhaps, BOE is trying to prove a point that it could do something better. Well, we can&#8217;t really say if it is better than Samsung&#8217;s OLED displays. As for the specification, the display comes in at 6.18 inches with a resolution of 2992 x 1440 pixels. The screen also has a PPI of 537 and 390 nits brightness and is made from AMOLED. BOE&#8217;s display would naturally be expected to be cheaper than Samsung&#8217;s.</p>

The company has always dedicated itself to advancing innovation in semiconductor display technologies such as TFT-LCD and AMOLED, for the purpose of providing quality display products and services. Manufacturing LCD panels have been BOE&#8217;s stronghold where it utilises its proprietary (Advanced Super Dimension Switch (ADSDS) technology for liquid-crystal (LCD) panels. This technology is characterized by ultra-high definition, ultra-slim bezel,  high contrast-ratio, ultra-thinness, integrated touch solution, great energy efficiency, and environmental friendliness but is restricted to LCD panels.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/boe-display-5.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-155571" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/boe-display-5.jpg?x10805" alt="BOE display technology" width="505" height="326" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/boe-display-5.jpg 505w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/boe-display-5-300x194.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 505px) 100vw, 505px" /></a></p>
<p>However, in an industry where there is a rapid shift to OLED displays, BOE has unveiled its sixth generation of flexible AMOLED production line in a ceremony held in Chengdu, China. The production line is the wold&#8217;s second production line for flexible AMOLED panels and China&#8217;s first. The line is expected to break the monopoly enjoyed by Korean companies  Samsung, LG and others. Already, there are indications that Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo and other OEMs are showing interests in patronizing the BOE AMOLED display.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/boe-display-3.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-155569" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/boe-display-3.jpg?x10805" alt="BOE display technology" width="499" height="314" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/boe-display-3.jpg 499w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/boe-display-3-300x189.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 499px) 100vw, 499px" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000">Read Also</span>: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/06/23/lg-announces-latest-worlds-first-flexible-transparent-77-inch-oled-display/">LG Announces Its Latest World’s First Flexible, Transparent 77-inch OLED display</a></strong></p>
<p>The company showcased a wide variety of flexible AMOLED panel designs at the ceremony and there is even a <a href="http://weibo.com/tv/v/FsjohzW4R?from=vhothttp://weibo.com/tv/v/FsjohzW4R?from=vhot" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video</a> showing all the samples they&#8217;ve got.  As you&#8217;d expected OLED panels with 18:9 aspect ratio where included, as well as thin, paper-like foldable screens. There was even a display exhibited which looked like the iPhone X display. With this development, Samsung is likely going to be the hardest hit since it enjoys a large share of patronage.</p>
