This growth is projected to accelerate to 10% in 2025. This surge is primarily driven by commercial sector demand for PC upgrades. Meanwhile, China’s tablet market is also expected to experience steady growth of 4% in both 2024 and 2025, fueled by deepening digitalization initiatives.

Similarly, in India PC market, including desktops, notebooks, and tablets, is forecast for a robust 14% year-on-year increase in 2024. All segments are expected to contribute to this growth, with tablets leading the charge at an impressive 24% year-on-year rise. Notably, despite the projected overall growth, Q4 2023 shipments saw desktops lead with a 27% increase, followed by notebooks at 3%. Interestingly, tablets in India experienced a 9% decline in shipments during the same period.

The rise of AI-powered PCs and locally manufactured devices are key trends driving this growth in India and China. Different companies will benefit from PC market growth in India and China. In India, Samsung is the biggest winner with 26%, followed by Lenovo (14.8%) and Apple (13.3%). Apple being forced to remove the popular messaging app, WeChat, from its global App Store could have its iPhone shipments drop by up to 30 percent in the Chinese market.

According to the known analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, and a report from MacRumors, Apple’s annual iPhone shipments could see a sizeable decline in China in a worst case scenario. After a recent executive order that sought to ban US transactions with WeChat and its parent company Tencent was passed, the Cupertino based giant might have to remove the messaging app from its App Stores across the globe.

Ming-Chi Kuo presented two possible outcomes that covered an optimistic and pessimistic scenario, which depends on whether or not Apple has to remove WeChat from just its US App Store or in its entire global App Store. For those unaware, WeChat is a popular Chinese messaging application that is especially successful in China. A global ban would be devastating to Apple, due to its popularity in China.

Kuo stated that “Because WeChat has become a daily necessity in China, integrating functions such as messaging, payment, e-commerce, social networking, news reading, and productivity, if this is the case, we believe that Apple’s hardware product shipments in the Chinese market will decline significantly. The Chinese tablet market has been seeing a decline overall during the first quarter of 2020. But despite the slump in the market, the Chinese vendor, Huawei has managed to edge ahead of Apple’s iPad in the same segment.

Earlier this year, the Coronavirus pandemic had initially broken out in China. This caused various complications in the industry, with many company’s having to shut down their manufacturing plants in compliance with the government’s regulations. The production delay caused supply chains to suffer as well and the already declining tablet market to fall ever lower by 30 percent in 2020 over 2019.

In the Chinese tablet market, the Cupertino based giant, Apple, is a major player with its iPad series being a popular choice in the country. However, a recent IDC report has revealed that Apple’s sales have dropped in the market by 42.5 percent year on year. Despite this time of crisis, it seems some brands faired better, with Huawei witnessing a growth of 4.3 percent during this period.

This, in turn, translates to Apple losing its best selling tablet label in China, losing to Huawei. The former had a market share of 35.1 percent while the latter accounted for 40.2 percent in the first quarter. The Chinese tech giant seems to be an exception in the industry with other OEMs also seeing declines of varying degrees, including Xiaomi, Lenovo, and even Microsoft.

Earlier today (29th April 2020), CINNO Research released a new report detailing the semiconductor market standing in China for Q1 of 2020. The report had revealed that Huawei took the top spot for the first time, with its HiSilicon Kirin chipsets.

According to CINNO, the first quarter of 2020 had Huawei hold a chip market share of 43.9 percent. This is an increase from 36.5 percent back in Q4 2019 and 24.3 percent in Q1 of 2019. Qualcomm came in second this time around (32.8 percent), but was the leader in both Q1 and Q4 of 2019 (48.1 percent and 37.8 percent). In the report, MediaTek was found to be a consistent performer making it third in all of the three different quarters (13.1 percent in Q1 2020).

Apple came in fourth with just an 8.5 percent semiconductor market share followed by other manufacturers rounding up the remaining market share. A notable trend observed in the report was the sharp decline in smartphone shipments in the Chinese market, which is likely caused due to the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic. The shipments declined by 44.5 percent over Q1 of 2019.

At the moment, Huawei’s HiSilicon processors and Qualcomm Snapdragon chips currently account for 76.6 percent of the total semiconductor market share in China. CINNO reported that about 90 percent of all Huawei smartphones shipped with its proprietary Kirin chipsets in Q1 of 2020, with various models using processors like the Kirin 810, Kirin 820, Kirin 985, and Kirin 990 SoC.

According to a new report from a renowned analytics firm, IDC, the Chinese smart speaker market has seen unprecedented growth in the year 2019. The figures shared by the firm detail the year on year growth for each quarter and an annual growth which is a massive 109.7 percent over 2018.

As per the report published by the IDC, the smart speaker market shipments saw 45.89 million units in China alone, marking the 100% plus year on year growth. Similarly, the quarters of 2019 also represented growth overall as well, with just Q4 seeing 13.08 million unit shipments and a year on year growth of 22.5 percent over 2018.

The names that dominated this category include industry giants like Alibaba, Baidu, and Xiaomi, with just these three accounting for nearly 90 percent of the entire Chinese market share. Alibaba’s Tmall Genie speaker took the top spot with 15.61 million units shipped in 2019, which is a significant rise of 87.9 percent over 2018. Furthermore, Baidu’s Xiaodu smart speaker arrives second with a total of 14.9 million units being shipped in 2019, seeing an incredible year on year growth rate of 278.5 percent.

Xiaomi, on the other hand, arrived third on the list and saw an annual shipment of just 11.3 million units, marking a growth rate of 89.7 percent in just one year. Needless to say, this is an impressive growth trend that the Chinese smart speaker market has seen. Unfortunately, this trend might see an abrupt obstacle. 2020 was supposed to be the follow up year where a stable but growing trend would have been observed but due to the Coronavirus disrupting various industries and economies in early 2020, the growth rate might be severely affected.

It is currently being expected that the Q1 of 2020 will bring a decline by a notable 25.8 percent in comparison to 2019. For those unaware, the new strand of Coronavirus had originated from China before spreading to over 170 countries. The sizable figures are for the fiscal year of 2019 and the company’s PC operations in China generate revenue exceeding 10 billion US Dollars.

More than half of Lenovo’s Chinese PC market from younger target audiences and students. Thus, the company is always innovating on different ways to developed customized products according to the youth generation’s preferences with market strategies and technology reflecting the same, according to Liu Jun.

On 30th December 2019, Xiaomi announced its total TV sales report for the year; stating that the smartphone manufacturer has surpassed its goal of shipping 10 million units.

Reportedly, Xiaomi’s January to November smart TV’s cumulative sales number has it placed at the top of the Chinese TV markets. This meant that the company also beat established TV manufacturers such as Skyworth, Hisense, TCL, and more, according to a statistics report.

Initially, The Chinese tech giant first entered the smart TV field back in 2013; and have announced today (30t December 2019) that it has hit the goal of becoming China’s number one, according to the General Manager of Xiaomi’s TV Department. Furthermore, Jiang Cong, the General Manager of Sales and Operation of Xiaomi, also expressed this achievement in his official Weibo account.

Samsung is still dominating the world’s smartphone market and is still the leading smartphone brand. However, the company’s performance in the Chinese market isn’t working in its favor.

According to the new report released by market research firm Strategy Analytics, the smartphone market share of Samsung Electronics in China for the second quarter of this year has reduced to less than 1 percent.

This decline in the sales of Samsung in China is being attributed to the influence of the Chinese brands as well as more and more Chinese users opting for domestic brands. For Q2 2019, the South Korean giant shipped around 700,000 units in China, which accounts for just 0.7 percent of the market share.

The market of Samsung in China is consistently shrinking. In 2016, the company had a 4.9 percent market share which declined to 2.1 percent in the year 2017. Last year, it was below 1 percent. However, the reports indicate that in Q1 2019, the company’s market share in China had rebounded to 1.1 percent.

On the other hand, it remains the undisputed leader when it comes to global smartphone sales.  Counting global sales for Q2 2019, Samsung Electronics took the pole position with 76.3 million smartphone shipments, with a market share of 22.3 percent; Huawei shipped 58.7 million smartphones, ranking second in the market, having a share of 17.2 percent.

Apple comes to third with a market share was 11.1% and shipments of 38 million smartphones. Xiaomi and Oppo ranked fourth and fifth with shipments of 32 million and 29.8 million, respectively, with 9.4 percent and 8.7 percent market share.

However, in the Chinese market, Huawei leads the market with a share of 37.3 percent and shipments of 37.3 million units while Oppo ranks second with a market share of 19.7 percent. Vivo’s market share reached 18.5 percent, ranking third while Xiaomi ranks fourth, with a market share of 12 percent. These four brands make up 85 percent of the smartphone market share in China.

While the South Korean giant launched its premium Galaxy S10-lineup earlier this year, Samsung is now all set to launch its next-gen Galaxy Note-series flagship smartphone — Samsung Galaxy Note 10 at its “Unpacked” event tonight.

Huawei has been under attack from the US since May 2019 but that seems to have somehow strengthened its position in the Chinese market. IDC has just released the latest data for the Chinese smartphone market in Q2 2019 and we can see some really big gains for Huawei during this period.

Among the top 5 smartphone makers in China in Q2 2019, Huawei was the only company to register an increase in its shipments. The telecommunications giant shipped over 36.3 million smartphones in this period in China, which was a solid 27% increase from last year’s 28.5 million units. This helped its market share grow from 27.4% last year to 37% in the most recent quarter. IDC notes that the company’s increased investment and focus on the Chinese market boosted its growth in the last quarter. Also, the P30 series and the Honor 20 series were quite popular in China driving its market share to new heights.

As for the other four manufacturers in the list, Xiaomi saw the biggest drop in terms of shipments. The company ranked fourth, trailing behind Vivo and OPPO in terms of market share and shipments. Xiaomi’s shipments fell from 14.5 million units in Q2 2018 to just 11.7 million units in Q2 2019, registering a 19.3% drop. IDC adds that the company’s offline management issues and the early release cycle of the Mi 9 this year could have been the factors that contributed to its decline in shipments.

If you notice, the second and third positions in the IDC’s list have been reversed this year. vivo has overtaken OPPO in terms of shipments, shipping nearly 100K units more than OPPO last quarter. Interestingly, a recent report by Canalyst for the same period puts OPPO on top of vivo for Q2 2019, that too by a clear margin of a few hundred thousand units.

At the fifth place is Apple, shipping 6.6 million units and maintaining a steady 6.7% market share during this period.

The total smartphone shipments in China fell slightly to 97.9 million in Q2 2019. The total shipments for H1 2019 were down by 5.4% at around 180 million units.

Since 2009, the smartphone market in China has always grown until 2016, according to the market research firm Canalys. In the recent years the growth has been much smaller, but the market at least was going up. But in 2017, for the first time, smartphone sales in China fell. In 2017 fewer devices have been sold in China, compared to 2016. To be accurate, in 2017, 459 million smartphones were shipped in China, which is 4% less than the number of units shipped in 2016. The most important decline was registered in Q4 2017 (from October to December), in which 14% less devices were sold compared to Q4 2016.

According to Canalys, Huawei is actually the best smartphones brand in China with 90 million devices shipped in 2017. Right after Huawei are Oppo and Vivo, owned by the same tech giant BBK. At the 4th place we can find Apple, then at the 5th place, there is the Chinese Apple (Xiaomi). In Q4 2017 , Huawei has sold more units than Oppo and Vivo: 24 million, compared to 19 million and 17 million of its opponents. The analysts think that Q4 2017 is the best quarter ever registered in China for Huawei, but it is the exact opposite for the Chinese smartphones market in general.

Talking about Huawei, the most successful devices were the Honor line-up, which represents more than half of the units shipped by Huawei in 2017. On the other hand, there are companies that are becoming weaker in the Chinese market, like Meizu, Gionee, Lenovo, and ZTE. Indeed, if we look at the success rate of their latest flagships, we can easily understand that it was a bad year for them. If this continues, it would mean Huawei would grow further while other brands decline in terms of sales, thereby increasing the gap between these companies. Further, the lead would help Huawei take on the top two players in the market and overtake them in the coming years. So, this trend is great for Huawei but bad for the Chinese smartphone market in general.
