The HTC U 11 is scheduled to launch tomorrow but just ahead of the launch a video which can be best said to be a hands-on/first impressions video has been leaked online.

The video leaves nothing to the imagination. All the color variants are present and we get to see the Edge Sense feature used multiple times.

From the video we can see the HTC U 11 will be available in blue, red, black, white and turquoise blue. The colors look really nice especially the blue one but they are reflective. Too reflective that they become distracting. The back is bare save for the 12MP rear camera flanked on the left by a LED flash and HTC’s logo.

The front doesn’t look bad but we think the top and bottom bezels could have been made smaller. There is a fingerprint scanner sitting on the chin and android navigation buttons on opposite sides. The top bezel houses the front  16MP camera on the right and the earpiece in the middle. The bottom of the phone is where the USB Type-C port sits. There is a single slit for the speaker on the right and a pair of microphones too.

We also get to see how HTC’s new Edge Sense technology works. There is a settings that lets you configure the squeeze force level. This is useful for situations where your phone is in your pocket or bag and you don’t want it setting of itself.

Edge Sense can be used for activating Google Assistant, as a dedicated shutter button or shortcut button that opens the camera even when the phone is locked.

The HTC U 11 just like the HTC U Ultra doesn’t have an audio jack but HTC will ship the phone with a 3.5mm to type-C adapter.

Overall we are pleased with the design of the HTC U 11 we just wished it wasn’t so reflective. The HTC U 11 will be officially released tomorrow. It will have a 5.5-inch Quad HD display, a Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB of RAM and an IP68 rating.

HTC has announced that their next flagship will be unveiled on the 11th of May. Previous reports had revealed that the phone will be launched as the HTC U (HTC Ocean) but a tweet by Venturebeat owner, Evan Blass revealed otherwise. The HTC U will now launch as HTC U 11.

The new name was chosen as a way to merge the former and the new naming schemes. The HTC Ocean will be the eleventh flagship device from HTC, succeeding the HTC 10 hence the addition of the “11” suffix to the name. Thinking of it now, HTC Ocean 11 sounds like a much better name. But only if wishes were horses….

For the colors, the HTC U 11 will come in black, blue, red, white and silver. All phones will have the same liquid surface design as the HTC U Ultra. However, color variants will be region specific.

The HTC U 11 will have a 5.5-inch QHD screen, a Snapdragon 835 SoC, a 12MP primary camera and a 16MP selfie camera. It will run Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box and have a touch-sensitive frame HTC is calling Edge Sense.

HTC has sent out media invites for its May 16 event that will most likely introduce its upcoming flagship phone, HTC U which is codenamed as HTC Ocean. The media invite does not directly mention the unveiling of HTC U, but carries the text which reads “Squeeze for the Brilliant” and the date of the event.

According to the media invite, the May 16 launch event will be held at Taipei at 2 PM, at 2 AM in New York and at 7 AM in London. Speculations have it that the HTC U is third phone in the new U series smartphones from the company which includes the HTC U Ultra and U Play.

The official Twitter account of HTC features a teaser video clip that shows the alleged HTC U responding to the press on its left and right edges. Also, the large U is squished from both sides which again teases touch-sensitive frame of the phone.

At the start of this year, popular leakster Evan Blass had revealed one of the leaked promotional videos of the alleged HTC U phone. The video clearly shows the capacitive sensors placed on its edges that are allegedly called Edge Sensors in action.

As it can be seen, the HTC U’s Edge Sensors can recognize the grips and gestures of the users. It allows users to perform wide range of actions such as scrolling through the list of apps or launching a particular app.

Leaked information have revealed that the HTC U flagship phone will be coming with a 5.5-inch display that will be sporting a quad HD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. The Snapdragon 835 chipset Is present under the hood of the phone. Its 64 GB model is expected to come with 4 GB of RAM whereas the 128 GB variant has 6 GB of RAM. One of the leaked photos shows that the Home button on the chin of the device houses its fingerprint reader.

It is preloaded with Android 7.1 Nougat OS that is customized with HTC Sense 9 UI. For photography, it is expected to come with a 12-megapixel rear snapper and its selfie camera is rumored to be of 16-megapixel.  it will be coming with a 3,000 mAh battery that carries support for Quick Charge 3.0.

Back in February, HTC announced the HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play. From the names, it was easy to tell that there was still one announced phone. That phone is the HTC U a.k.a. Ocean and leakster Evan Blass shared its first real image yesterday.

The HTC U has the same liquid surface design of its siblings but appears to be more curved at the corners. Instead of a square sensor like the U Ultra, this is round. The LED flash is also sitting on the left. One feature most people are looking forward to on the HTC U is the touch sensitive frame. By squeezing the sides or swiping, you can control the phone but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have physical buttons.

The HTC U doesn’t have the same dual screen as the bigger U Ultra. The front camera also sits on the right side. Asides from that every other thing is the same.

The HTC U will have a 5.5-inch 2K display, a Snapdragon 835, 4GB RAM, and 64GB of storage. The rear camera is a 12MP IMX362 sensor while up front is a 16MP IMX351 sensor. It will launch with HTC’s Sense 9 UI on top of Android 7.1.

There is no release date yet but it is expected to be unveiled in April followed by a May Global release.

The HTC Exon is the new concept smartphone designed by Mladen MIlic who is known for designing various concept phones. The appearance of the HTC Exon shows that its display is flanked with very slim bezels.  It has a unique shape as it has cut-off edges with noticeable curve at its corners and HTC’s logo can be seen engraved at the top-left corner and the phone features a set of four front-facing speakers.

The HTC Exon seems to feature a full metallic chassis and it houses a 5.5-inch screen. Nothing else is known on the specifications of the phone. The capacitive touchscreen buttons can be seen below the display. The volume controllers are placed on the left side of the phone whereas its right edge has the power button.

A dedicated camera key is also present on the lower part of the right edge of the phone. The rear side of the HTC Exon has a pretty plain appeal as it features another logo of the company at the center and a dual-LED enable camera sensor at the top-right corner.  The phone is in three colors like white, silver and copper.

The HTC Exon is just a concept phone. Hence, it is unlikely that HTC would release such a phone. However, the Taiwanese firm is expected to announce the HTC U flagship as early as in this month. HTC has released two smartphones, the HTC U Ultra and U Play, in this year. The company is rumored to launch only 6 to 7 smartphones this year.

The HTC U Ultra that was introduced at the start of this year features Snapdragon 821 chip, but the rumored HTC U will be a flagship phone that will be driven by Snapdragon 835 SoC. The phone that is codenamed as HTC Ocean has allegedly appeared on AnTuTu. Since rumors suggest that it won’t feature any physical buttons, its most striking feature will be its touch-sensitive metallic frame that will give access to various functions through actions like longer and shorter presses and swiping on the frame.

The HTC U (codenamed as HTC Ocean) is speculated to get unveiled in this month. Its alleged specs have been leaked by popular leakster, Evan Blass and its details have also reportedly appeared on AnTuTu benchmarks. The entire specifications and all the features of the HTC U have been revealed through its preview materials.

The HTC U seems to have special sensors (dubbed as Edge Sensors) placed on its bottom. It probably lets users to press the frame of the phone to carry out various kinds of tasks. The preview materials the HTC Sense 9 UI will provide users with Sensitivity Setup to make the HTC U understand the power of user’s grip. By choosing between three configuration options, users can select the best sensitivity level to let users comfortably interact the phone by pressing the Edge Sensors with low mis-trigger rate.

Preview materials also suggest that certain gestures can be activated through short gestures which involves squeezing the sides of the device for a short period. Users can also make use of a long gesture. Through such gestures, HTC U users will be able to do different tasks such as starting the camera or launching the Google Assistant.

The above image shows the alleged 12-megapixel camera of the HTC U phone will be equipped with HDR+ that will provide users with real-time HDR scene detection. The preview materials have not clearly mentioned on how the HDR+ feature will work, but the image suggests that the HDR+ processing will let users view how the photo would appear even before it is shot.

The HTC U will be equipped with four microphones for recording surround sound. These microphones are place on the left, right front and back sides of the phone. The smartphone provides users with two kinds of video sound recording which includes 3D Audio and Hi-Res Recording. The former uses the quad microphones to record sound whereas the latter involves recording loseless sound for “reproducing full range of sound” which probably means it would be able to record sound without any degradation in quality.

The phone is also expected to support Multimedia BoomSound, a feature provided by HTC on its other high-end smartphones. Leaked photos have revealed that the phone would not be sporting a 3.5mm audio jack. Hence, users will be able to listen to the music by connecting a headset to the USB Type-C port present on the bottom side of the HTC U.

A feature called HTC USonic can create personalized audio profile for users by automatically detecting the ear canal of the user. Based on the surroundings of the user, USonic will be deliver the appropriate kind of audio experience. Apart from using the headset, the Taiwanese flagship phone will deliver impressive audio experience through a pair of stereo speakers

The HTC U Sense Link will allow users to have better interaction between the phone and PC. By installing the PC client of Sense Link, the HTC U and PC can be connected on the same Wi-Fi network. When outside, users will be able to access the files that are stored on the PC through the HTC U phone. By pairing both devices, users will be able to see phone’s notifications on the PC and also seamlessly copy and paste content between them. Users will be also able to continue reading those articles on the PC that have been opened on the phone. HTC’s AI assistant called Sense Companion that was introduced on HTC U Ultra and U Play phones will be also available on HTC U.

The phone will be arriving with a 5.5-inch quad HD display and it will be fueled by Snapdragon 835. It will offer users with 4 GB and 6 GB RAM options along with storage choices like 64 GB and 128 GB. Other specs include HTC Sense 9 UI enabled Android 7.1 Nougat, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, v4.2 Bluetooth, fingerprint reader (embedded in Home key), and Quick Charge 3.0 enabled 3,000 mAh battery. Evan Blass has revealed that the phone would be lunching in this month with a global release slated for May.
