iPhone 16 Pro box sticker seemingly confirms “Made in India” rumor

A report earlier this week revealed that, for the first time, Apple is planning to manufacture the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max in India, alongside China.

In fact, Foxconn, a key Apple manufacturing partner, is said to have already begun training its workers at its Tamil Nadu facility in India. A new leak now adds further credibility to the rumors that the “Made in India” iPhone 16 Pro models are indeed on the way.

Realme is apparently working on a new budget tablet, which could be launching in India soon. The Realme Pad 3 has emerged getting certified in the region. It is the direct successor to the Realme Pad 2 which was first unveiled last year.

Samsung‘s foldable ambitions are likely to go beyond the recent Galaxy Z Fold 6, if the rumors are to be believed. The speculation centers on a slimmer, possibly more premium foldable phone, codenamed “Q6A,” which has been making the rounds for months. Now, a report by GalaxyClub offers some of the first details on its camera and a possible launch time frame.

Nothing has officially confirmed that the Phone (2a) will be made in India. The company is gearing up to unveil the new smartphone soon, but ahead of its release, the Phone (2a)’s Indian manufacturing was announced.

Nothing Phone (2a) will be ‘Made in India’

The London based startup is turning to local manufacturing in the Indian market. This move will not only help create more jobs but enable the brand to grow its investment in the region. The upcoming Nothing Phone (2a) will be made in the manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, a State in South India. To recall, the Nothing Phone (1) and Phone (2) were also manufactured locally in the past.

Notably, Nothing Phone (2a)’s global launch will be held in India. The brand will set up a live stream for the announcement and also host an in-person event in New Delhi. Popular Indian Actor Ranveer Singh was also confirmed as the brand’s face for its products. For those unaware, the Nothing Phone (2a) is set to launch with a custom Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC that was co-developed with.

The company is gearing up to unveil the smartphone on 5th March 2024. Furthermore, its entire design was also recently revealed. The brand is even gearing up to unveil CMF Neckband Pro and CMF Buds as well, so stick around for more as we will be covering the launch event tomorrow.

Smartphones that were Made in India saw a sizeable rise in shipments back in the second quarter of this year. However, in the third quarter, it seems that these devices did not see such a great performance in the local market.

The news arrives from a Counterpoint Research report. The known analytics based firm found that smartphones under the ‘Made in India” category saw an overall decline of 8 percent year on year in Q3 2022. During this period, the Indian smartphone market shipped over 52 million Made in India handset units. However, this marked a noticeable fall in sales, which the report believes is likely due to fall in consumer demand.

This decline in sales is also likely linked to the uncertain geopolitics that could be the primary factor. According to Senior Research Analyst Prachir Singh, “The Made in India smartphone shipments declined in Q3 2022 as compared to Q3 2021. Two major forces impacted the growth of such smartphone shipments. First, the decline in consumer demand, especially in the entry level segment, due to the negative macroeconomic indicators. Second, the high channel inventory at the start of the quarter also impacted the manufacturing during the quarter.”

Despite this, the country’s smartphone manufacturing sector is still seeing expansion with almost 63 percent of shipments arriving from in house producers and just 37 percent from third party sources. BYD and Lava were two of the fastest growing brands in terms of total smartphone shipments. The researched further added that “Overall, the manufacturing trend is witnessing an upward trajectory with multiple partnerships happening in recent months, like the ones between Tata Group and Wistron and between Foxconn and Vedanta.” So this decline might not be permanent.

As per a Bloomberg report, this decision comes after considering the cash incentives that the local phone makers get.

Will we get assembled in India phones?

The three brands in question are Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo, some of the largest Chinese smartphone makers. As per the report, these companies are in discussion with two of the well-known Indian manufacturers. Xiaomi is following up with Dixon Technologies, while Oppo and Vivo are in talks with Lava. If the plan succeeds, we expect to see phones from Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo labeled with the ‘Assembled in India‘ tag.

Reportedly, these brands want to take advantage of cash incentives available to local phone makers like Lava and Dixon. With the incentive benefits, the company may be able to offer affordable products in India. The phone prices may vary for the other markets getting these India-assembled devices.

Both Lava and Dixon technologies are said to be aimed at boosting India’s competitiveness and making the country a hub for electronics production. If all goes as planned, this process could start as early as this year.

That hasn’t stopped it from launching its own devices. A new teaser confirms the arrival of a “Made in India” Smartphone. And a report says it could be as many as four devices and a wearable product.

In a teaser shared by the company, Sunil Raina, President and Business Head, Lava Mobiles talks about the upcoming device that Probably has a centered punch-hole display(from poster). He stressed the words “never before”, “evolved and dynamic engineering”, “history in the making”, and “proudly Indian”. Clearly, he is indicating the device that is made locally.

Anyway, this is not the only device that’s going to be a made-in-India smartphone. The company launched Z61 Pro with an 18:9 display for ₹5,774($78.56) back in July. Last week, the company unveiled the female-centric smartphone Lava BeU for ₹6,888($93). If you see a pattern here, you are not alone.

Lava, after attempting comebacks a few times over the years, is clearly targeting the entry-level segment in the country. And according to the Gadgets360 report, it is going to do the same on next event that is scheduled on January 7 at 12 PM IST. Precisely, the report says it will launch a total of four new devices(excluding Lava BeU) between ₹5,000 and ₹15,000($68-$203) price bracket.

If this wasn’t enough for you, get ready for an all-new fitness tracker from yet another brand, only this time it’s Indian. Anyway, Lava has reportedly confirmed that the products will be available in online and offline stores in the country. Let’s wait for more official news.
