WhatsApp New Update: Polls Now Available for All Android and iOS Users

WhatsApp had been testing a new poll feature for its messaging application. It had been previously reported that the messaging platform is working on a new feature which allows users to make polls in group chats. The feature has now officially begun to be made available to users all across the world. One can quickly access the newly added feature after updating the application to the latest version.

The WhatsApp application’s stable version now includes the poll feature, which was previously only available in the beta version. Both group chats and one-on-one personal conversations support the feature. Speaking of the feature and how it functions, it has up to 12 options to include. This implies that a single poll can have up to 12 different options. However, one has the option to add fewer alternatives if one chooses. A poll can only be made and posted if there are at least two alternatives.

When it comes to voting, each user is free to select any number of options. The user can also be able to select just one option. There are no limitations on the user’s ability to change the choice they made, they can change the option they had voted for any time before the poll ends. So that’s how the new poll feature for the WhatsApp messaging service will operate.

Open the WhatsApp app and go to a group chat or an individual chat to start a poll. Now, if you’re using an Android device, click the “attachment” button, and if you’re using an iOS device, click the “+” icon. Find the Poll option now, then hit the button. After typing your question in the “Ask Question” section and including voting options, post it, you’re done!

Poll of The Week: Should international OnePlus phones ship with ColorOS or OxygenOS?

Earlier this year, just before the OnePlus 9 series was launched, OnePlus announced that the Chinese variants will ship with ColorOS instead of HydrogenOS. That decision was a major step towards what has been dubbed “the OPPO-fication of OnePlus”.

Last week, OnePlus announced that it was merging its teams with those of OPPO going forward. Thus becoming a sub-brand of OPPO rather than a sister-brand owned by the same parent company, BBK Electronics.

When the announcement was made, one of the concerns quickly addressed was that OnePlus phones (international models) will continue to run OxygenOS. The big question is if this is what users want.

So for this week’s poll, we really want to know what our readers think. Do you want OnePlus to keep shipping its international models with OxygenOS or will you prefer if they switched to ColorOS? Poll of The Week: Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G (China) or Redmi Note 10 Pro (Global)?

The Redmi Note 10 Pro (5G) launched a few days ago in China and it is quite different from the Redmi Note 10 Pro (global version) that was announced back in March.

Some of the key differences include support for 5G on the Chinese version as a result of the Dimensity 1100 whereas the global version has a Snapdragon 732G processor. It also has a 120Hz LCD screen with Gorilla Glass Victus protection while the global version comes with a 120Hz AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 5.

Xiaomi also ships the global version with a 108MP quad camera setup while the Chinese version has a 64MP triple camera setup. Another major difference is that the Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G has a 5000mAh battery with support for 67W fast wired charging while the Redmi Note 10 Pro (global) has a 5020mAh battery with support for 33W fast wired charging.

As you can see, these are quite significant differences. Xiaomi is yet to say if the Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G will get a global launch, nevertheless, we want to know which one of the two phones you prefer. Is it the Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G or the Redmi Note 10 (Global version)?

The Snapdragon 888 is Qualcomm’s flagship chipset. The processor which made its debut in the Xiaomi Mi 11 last December has now appeared in several other phones with more planned to come later.

Prior to the launch of the Snapdragon 888, the chipset was expected to arrive as the Snapdragon 875 if we were to follow Qualcomm’s naming scheme but the San Diego-based company decided to go with a different name.

Xiaomi Exec’s poll reveals that most people prefer AMOLED over LCDs this year

Lu Weibing, Xiaomi Group Vice President and Redmi General Manager, recently released a poll on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website. This poll asked the users on the social media platform whether they prefer AMOLED or LCD display’s, with a majority prefering the former over the latter.

Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition

In the poll, over 14,000 people chose AMOLED panels as their preferred choice of display, while just 6051 people opted for LCD panels. The senior official of the Chinese tech giant added that there are still a number of people that still preferred the LCD panels, but, the majority have chosen AMOLED. Interestingly, a similar poll was also held last year as well, with a number of users preferring the LCD displays, so the executive aimed to evaluate preferences this year as well.

Back in 2020, the Redmi K30 series were launched, with the lineup sporting LCD panels that reached peak brightness of up to 650 nits. On the other hand, the Redmi K40 series that were launched this year arrived with OLED screens. The latest lineup sported the Samsung E4 AMOLED panel that offered peak brightness of up to 1300 pits, with a 5 million:1 contrast ratio.

A few of the users that preferred LCD panels pointed at shortcoming of the OLED panels in recent times. These users highlights the smearing problem on certain smartphones with high refresh rates along with the PWM dimming issue, while LCDs work well if they have a good DC dimming.

Poll of The Week: Are you still interested in Huawei flagships after the ban?

The US ban has dealt a huge blow to Huawei‘s business. The former second-largest phone manufacturer in the world, which used to be a popular choice among phone buyers has lost a significant part of its global market share. Even in China, where it was the market leader up until the end of 2020, OPPO has now overtaken it.

The ban has also affected the timeline of Huawei’s flagships. This time last year, it was just a few days before the announcement of the P40 series of flagship smartphones. However, this year’s P50 series is not expected to arrive till the middle of next month. And we presume that just like the Mate 40 series, only select models or limited units will be available right away with others going on sale much later.

We want to believe the delay in announcements, availability, and lack of Google Mobile Services must have affected user interest in Huawei flagships

Qualcomm has two processors that will power the flagship phones of this year. There is the Snapdragon 888 which we have seen in premium phones such as the Galaxy S21 series and Xiaomi Mi 11. The second is the Snapdragon 870 which will power more affordable flagships or the phones that fall under the ”flagship killer” category.

Both chipsets pack a punch but we know the Snapdragon 888 is the more powerful chipset. It not only has a better CPU and GPU but it is more efficient thanks to its smaller node size, 5nm against the Snapdragon 870’s 7nm. However, reviews have revealed that the Snapdragon 888 has heating issues.

The Snapdragon 870, on the other hand, takes the already great Snapdragon 865 Plus to another level with its higher clock speed. We haven’t seen reviews yet as the first commercially available phone to be powered by the chipset is yet to launch.

The Xiaomi Mi 11 was announced last week, and by default, the phone does not come with a charger and cable in the box. Xiaomi’s decision to not include a power adapter and charging cable follows Apple’s own earlier decision to not ship the iPhone 12 series and new units of older models with charging accessories.

Although unlike Apple, Xiaomi does provide an option for users to get these accessories for free at the point of purchase online, the fact remains that it made the decision to not include these accessories, and going forward, that will be the case for its other phones, at least its flagships.

Poll of The Week: Should Samsung terminate the Galaxy Note series?

The first Galaxy Note was launched in 2011. Since then, Samsung has launched several other phones with the Galaxy Note branding including tablets such as the Galaxy Note 8.0 and the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2. Now, there are reports that Samsung is planning to terminate the series soon but not as early as next year.

The S Pen is what makes the Galaxy Note series special and ever since the series made its debut 9 years ago, no manufacturer has a smartphone line that offers a similar or even better stylus experience than the Galaxy Note series. However, the S Pen is no longer an exclusive of the Galaxy Note line as it is now a feature of some of Samsung’s tablets.

Now, it has been reported that the S Pen will be making its way to the Galaxy S series starting with next year’s Galaxy S21 Ultra. The next Galaxy Z Fold may even have a stylus too. If these smartphones now have the feature that makes the Galaxy Note line special, it may make the line redundant.

Poll of The Week: Will you buy a foldable phone with mid-range specs for $1000?

Foldable phones are still out of the reach of most people, no thanks to their high price tags. The recently announced Moto Razr 5G launched for $1400, the Galaxy Z Flip is now $1299, and the new Galaxy Z Fold 2 is $1999. Only a handful of folks can afford to pay the aforementioned prices for a phone.

There are rumors that Samsung is working on an affordable Galaxy Z Fold which has been unofficially dubbed the Galaxy (Z) Fold Lite. We do not know how significantly the specs will be toned down compared to its existing models or what corners Samsung will cut to keep the price tag low. Nevertheless, we have decided to create a poll to see if folks will be willing to purchase a foldable phone with mid-range specs.

Yes, we know the Moto Razr 2019 and Moto Razr 5G both qualify as mid-range foldable devices but we are looking at a form factor closer to that of the Galaxy Z Fold and specs that are further toned down to make them more affordable.

So the full question is this – Will you buy a foldable phone with the following mid-range specs for $1000?

Near Field Communication or NFC as it is popularly called is a technology that allows for the exchange of data between two devices with just a touch gesture between the two. There are many use cases for NFC such as for payments or for connecting to other devices such as wireless speakers and headphones. You can even purchase NFC tags and program them for your own use.

While the technology has been available for years now, not every phone has it. Sometimes, manufacturers remove the feature from models sold in select markets while adding it to models sold in other regions.

For this week’s poll, we want to know how frequently you use the NFC feature and it doesn’t matter if it is your phone that has the feature baked in or a wearable. Also, do drop a comment telling us the most frequent usage scenarios.

In recent times phone storage has become really affordable and manufacturers have become so generous such that even budget phones like the Redmi 9 (Indian version) come with 128GB of storage. Notwithstanding, a lot of manufacturers still include the option for storage expansion even on variants with more storage than buyers will need.

Samsung announced the Galaxy Note20 last week and it was a surprise when it was revealed that the $999 phone has a plastic back and not glass, like phones in that price range are expected to have.

The smartphone industry has evolved in the past few years. There was a time phones mostly had a polycarbonate body. Later, having a metal unibody was the cool thing, and now a glass back is the reigning design.

There are still a number of phones with plastic bodies, most especially those in the budget segment but we have also seen some mid-range phones (especially from Samsung) come with a plastic back polished to appear like glass (glasstic).

Last week, two flagship gaming smartphones were announced. The first is the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel which is the manufacturer’s first gaming phone, and the other is the ROG Phone 3, ASUS‘ third gaming phone.

Both phones are powerful devices: featuring Qualcomm’s flagship chipset – the Snapdragon 865 Plus processor and packing up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and up to 512GB UFS 3.1 storage. They also have pretty cool features to make mobile gaming more enjoyable such as 144Hz refresh rates, stereo speakers, and trigger buttons.

Lately, we have seen more phone manufacturers relaunch a phone under a different name, chief of them being POCO whose last three phones are actually rebadged Redmi phones.

Most phones released in the past few years have a fingerprint scanner (under the display, side-mounted, or rear-mounted). Face Unlock has also become a popular feature that is bundled as an additional security option or as an alternative to a fingerprint scanner on some devices.

Realme has priced its first smart TV aggressively; going head to head with Xiaomi’s own Mi TV 4A Pro. The Mi TV 4A Pro can be considered its closest rival as their specs are similar and their price tags are the same (43-inch models).
