<p>While reverse wireless charging has already been seen on Android smartphone from various brands, it seems that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple </a>is still working on developing this technology with the latest report also hinting at its arrival for next gen iPhones.</p>

<p>According to sources close to the matter, the Cupertino based giant is still working on perfecting the full reverse wireless charging technology for its iPhones. For those unaware, this technology basically makes your smartphone a wireless charging pad, enabling you to charge other products that support wireless charging. Meaning, your phone can end up charging another device that supports wireless charging, or even TWS earbuds that have charging cases that support the same.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="932" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/airpoweriphone8-1024x932.jpg?x10805" alt="Apple" class="wp-image-513916" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/airpoweriphone8-1024x932.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/airpoweriphone8-300x273.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/airpoweriphone8-768x699.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/airpoweriphone8-1536x1398.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/airpoweriphone8-696x633.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/airpoweriphone8-1068x972.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/airpoweriphone8-462x420.jpg 462w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/airpoweriphone8.jpg 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The sources added that the brand had originally hoped to debut the reverse wireless charging technology on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. However, the company had failed to meet its deadline. So now, it appears that Apple engineers are hard at work again to finish the wireless charging tech along with building software optimizations for it as well. Reverse wireless charging can also be called bilateral wireless charging.</p>

<p>Notably, ever since the iPhone 12 series, Apple has incorporated at least some elements that enable reverse wireless charging. However, this feature has been deactivated on the devices likely over various reasons. But once the company fully supports reverse wireless charging, we can expect the iPhones to be capable of charging any Qi enabled accessory. One of the best uses would likely include charging your AirPods.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-398032 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/iphone-13-wireless-charging-coil.jpeg?x10805" alt="Apple" width="1600" height="900" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/iphone-13-wireless-charging-coil.jpeg 1600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/iphone-13-wireless-charging-coil-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/iphone-13-wireless-charging-coil-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/iphone-13-wireless-charging-coil-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/iphone-13-wireless-charging-coil-696x392.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/iphone-13-wireless-charging-coil-1068x601.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/iphone-13-wireless-charging-coil-747x420.jpeg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px" /></p>
<p>According to a new rumor from Max Weinbach (Via <a href="https://www.macrumors.com/2021/07/04/iphone-13-larger-wireless-charging-coil/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>MacRumors</em></a>), the Cupertino based giant plans on housing a larger physical wireless charging coil on the rear of this year&#8217;s iPhone lineup. This, in turn, would mean the increase of the surface area of the wireless charging. Previously, Weinbach had also reported that the upcoming iPhone 13 would feature stronger MagSafe magnets as well. Now, he believes that this might be the reason for the larger coil size.</p>
<p>Furthermore, Weinbach also added that this could also imply of the arrival of reverse wireless charging support in the next gen iPhones. For those unaware, this technology enables users to charge devices that support wireless charging from their iPhones. For example, one could charge their <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-airpods/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">AirPods</a> through an iPhone 13 model, by simply placing the hearables on the rear of the smartphone.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-358038 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Moshi-Otto-Review-11.jpg?x10805" alt="Apple" width="2048" height="1150" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Moshi-Otto-Review-11.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Moshi-Otto-Review-11-300x168.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Moshi-Otto-Review-11-768x431.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Moshi-Otto-Review-11-1024x575.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Moshi-Otto-Review-11-696x391.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Moshi-Otto-Review-11-1068x600.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Moshi-Otto-Review-11-748x420.jpg 748w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Moshi-Otto-Review-11-1920x1078.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px" /></p>
<p>As of right now, it is unsure if the company is actually aiming on bringing this feature to its products anytime soon. Although, rumors have surfaced of the 2022 <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ipad-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">iPad Pro</a> featuring reverse wireless charging technology. Since this technology can cause a drain on a smartphone, it seems more feasible on a larger device like the iPad. Unfortunately, this is still an unconfirmed report so take it with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for more updates.</p>

The trend is continuing with the upcoming OnePlus 9. Although the company hasn&#8217;t confirmed the names yet, it is kind of obvious going by the numbers. Accordingly, we have already seen the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/12/first-hands-on-images-and-specs-leaked/">first hands-on images of the OnePlus 9</a>. Now, an exclusive report by 91Mobiles gives us more details.</p>
<p>Citing its sources, the report says that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-9/">OnePlus 9</a> will come with a 4,500mAh battery with 65W <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/warp-charging">Warp Charging</a>. This is about a 5% increase in capacity over its predecessor, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-8/">OnePlus 8</a>(4,300mAh). Further, if the report is true OnePlus 9 will support Wireless, Reverse Wireless charging apart from having a bigger battery.</p>
<p>Precisely, the OnePlus 9 will finally support <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/wireless-charging">wireless charging</a> up to 30W. Previously, the OnePlus 8 non-Pro didn&#8217;t have it back then but the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-8-pro">OnePlus 8 Pro</a> was the company&#8217;s first to sport it up to 30W. Anyway, it is appreciative of OnePlus finally bringing the nitty-gritty of a premium device to the vanilla model.</p>

<p>Moving on, the report shows two additional images claimed to be of the OnePlus 9 as seen above. One of them even shows a Reverse Charge icon in the quick-pull down menu. This indicates that the device could also <a href="https://www.91mobiles.com/hub/oneplus-9-wireless-charging-feature-exclusive/">support</a> <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/reverse-wireless-charging">Reverse Wireless charging</a>. That&#8217;s a no-brainer considering the 8 Pro also had it.</p>
<p>However, the OnePlus 8 Pro had a very <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/14/oneplus-8-oneplus-8-pro-specs-price-release-colors-all-you-need-to-know/">slow-rated reverse wireless charging speed</a>. In fact, it&#8217;s very slow that <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus">OnePlus</a> doesn&#8217;t even mention it in the spec sheet on the website. Either way, let&#8217;s hope the company spices it up this time as it will be helpful for quickly juicing up accessories like Wireless earbuds that are getting popular these days.</p>
<p>The OnePlus 9 is expected to feature a 6.55-inch FHD+ AMOLED 120Hz flat display, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-888">Snapdragon 888 SoC</a>, 50MP/48MP <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/21/oneplus-9-new-leak-reveals-50mp-triple-camera-setup/">triple-camera setup</a>(Leica branding), at least have 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, and ship with OxygenOS 11 based on <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-11">Android 11</a>, and debut in<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/21/oneplus-9-series-could-arrive-sometime-around-mid-march-report/"> mi-March of 2021</a>.</p>

Now, it seems that the company has added support for such a feature in the iPhone 12 models.</p>
<p>The FCC filings for the Apple iPhone 12 shows that this year&#8217;s devices have support for bilateral wireless charging, <a href="https://twitter.com/horwitz/status/1321246682772697089">reveals Jeremy Horwitz</a> in a tweet. It says that the new Apple smartphone works with regular Qi chargers and also with a new “charging function at 360 kHz” that can recharge accessories.</p>

<p>So far, Apple has not officially announced anything related to this and the feature has also been disabled on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/iphone-12">iPhone 12</a>. Some reports indicate that the company might be holding on to the feature for the rumored AirPods 3 and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-airpods-pro/">AirPods Pro</a> 2 TWS earphones.</p>
<p>This discovery suggests that Apple has continued its work on the charging feature and has integrated the functionality into its MagSafe protocol. While reverse wireless charging could be activated through a software update, it remains to be seen if Apple intends to do so.</p>
<p>Recently, it was reported that the Cupertino giant is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/26/airpods-3-airpods-pro-2-new-homepod-2021/">working on two new models</a> &#8212; the third-generation entry-level AirPods and the second version of the AirPods Pro earbuds, joining the list of upcoming audio products like HomePod mini and over-ear headphone.</p>

<p>XDA Junior Member kackskrz from the Xiaomi.EU custom MIUI team reveals that he spotted reverse wireless charging strings in the recent MIUI beta builds. This is a strong indicator that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> will add this feature on an upcoming device, most likely the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4. XDA adds that the feature will be &#8220;turned off automatically if charging doesn&#8217;t start within 90 seconds&#8221;. This is a battery-saving mechanism to ensure that the phone does not run out of charge quickly.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>RELATED: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/03/27/huawei-releases-wireless-charging-case-for-the-huawei-p30/">Huawei P30 Pro Has A Special Reverse Wireless Charging Case!</a></strong></p>
<p>While the strings spotted in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/miui">MIUI</a> beta builds doesn&#8217;t reveal the name of the device, it&#8217;s expected to be the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Mix 4. Reverse charging isn&#8217;t a mid-range or budget feature and all the recent smartphones featuring it like the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/04/15/huawei-p30-pro-review-smartphone-camera-revolution/">Huawei P30 Pro</a> and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s10-plus-sd855/">Galaxy S10</a> series are premium flagships. Xiaomi has one major flagship launch slated for H2 2019 and that&#8217;s the Mi Mix 4. Considering these points, Mix 4 is the best candidate to feature reverse wireless charging.</p>
<p>According to a recent statement from Xiaomi&#8217;s Product Director, Wang Teng Thomas, the Mix 4 will likely feature a faster wireless charging than the Mi 9. As wireless charging technology has matured, we have seen significant improvements in its charging speeds, making it a practical feature for a smartphone. For example, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-9/">Xiaomi Mi 9</a> comes with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/02/20/xiaomi-mi-9-and-mi-9-transparent-edition-launched-bring-amoled-displays-snapdragon-855-and-20w-wireless-charging/">20W wireless charging</a> support, which is only slightly slower than wired charging. Xiaomi could take things up a notch with the Mix 4 by including reverse wireless charging and faster-charging speeds.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_237339" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-237339" style="width: 1024px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Xiaomi-20W-Mi-Wireless-Power-Bank.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-237339" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Xiaomi-20W-Mi-Wireless-Power-Bank.jpg?x10805" alt="Xiaomi 20W Mi Wireless Power Bank" width="1024" height="410" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Xiaomi-20W-Mi-Wireless-Power-Bank.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Xiaomi-20W-Mi-Wireless-Power-Bank-300x120.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Xiaomi-20W-Mi-Wireless-Power-Bank-768x308.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-237339" class="wp-caption-text">Xiaomi has a 20W Mi Wireless Power Bank too!</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>We still have no word on a release date for the Mix 4, but rumors state a launch anytime around September of 2019.</p>

You could place another phone or device that supports wireless charging on the back of the phone and the Mate 20 Pro will share some of the juice from its 4,200mAh battery to the device. A new report says the Samsung Galaxy S10 series will also come with the feature.</p>
<p>The feature will be officially known as <strong>PowerShare</strong> and it will be available on all the Galaxy S10 models according to the source, though we are not sure if it includes the Galaxy S10E.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-233568" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S10-PowerShare.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung Galaxy S10 PowerShare Reverse Wireless Charging" width="439" height="727" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S10-PowerShare.jpg 439w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Samsung-Galaxy-S10-PowerShare-181x300.jpg 181w" sizes="(max-width: 439px) 100vw, 439px" /></p>
<p>Evidence of the feature is a photo that was taken at what seems to be a demo booth. The photo shows a controller with different buttons that play videos of different features of the Galaxy S10.</p>
<p>The first button plays a video ad of the phone, followed by a button that plays a video talking about the display. The third and fourth buttons are for videos showing off the phone&#8217;s in-display fingerprint scanner and triple rear cameras respectively while the last one is for the PowerShare reverse wireless charging feature.</p>

<p>The Mate 20 Pro&#8217;s reverse wireless charging feature is said to be really slow and considered a waste of time. Hopefully, Samsung&#8221;s implementation will be much better.</p>

According to Huawei, the Mate 20 Pro supports up to 15W wireless charging. However, it hasn’t mentioned anything on the charging rate of the wireless reverse charging feature on the Mate 20 Pro.</p>
<p>In order to enable to wireless reverse charging feature, one needs to navigate to the related listing available inside battery settings. Huawei has not provided an easy to access toggle to enable or disable reverse wireless charging. Once enabled, users need to quickly place the device that needs to be charged on the backside of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-20-pro">Mate 20 Pro</a>. If the other device is not placed instantly, the feature turns off automatically in few seconds to prevent power wastage.</p>
<p>Android Authority has examined the wireless reverse charging technology of the Mate 20 Pro to find out its charging rate. The Google Pixel 3 can support 10W wireless charging through Made by Google certified products such as Pixel Stand wireless charger. With third-party wireless chargers, the charging rate reduces to standard 5W.</p>
<p>AccuBattery is an app that can be used to get a rough idea of the charging speed. The app was used by the publication to check the wireless reverser charging speed of the Mate 20 Pro when it was used for charging Google Pixel 3. It was found that the charging rate could be half of the regular 5W wireless charging speed. With 2.5W wireless reverse charging onboard, it seems that the feature is so slow that it could be practically unusable for charging other devices.</p>
