The tech giant is expected to build on last year&#8217;s successes with the launch of the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus in the first half of the year. The duo could well be unveiled early at MWC 2018 and is expected to pack the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-galaxy-s9.jpg?x23692"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-164870" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-galaxy-s9.jpg?x23692" alt="Samsung Galaxy S9+" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-galaxy-s9.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-galaxy-s9-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>Now, a Chinese retailer has set out early to catch in on the potential success of the Galaxy S9+ by launching a look-alike smartphone. The device which also bears the Samsung Galaxy S9+ moniker can at best be described as a cheap Galaxy S9+ clone. It bears the same design as that of the Galaxy S9+ render that have featured in an earlier leak. It features a dual camera at the rear aligned in a vertical direction. The device also packs a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor placed under the rear cameras. Unfortunately, the front design is a sell out as it looks nothing like the render of the Galaxy S9+ we have earlier seen. The screen to bod ratio is nowhere near the likely ratio Samsung will utilise which is placed at up to 90% with ultra-thin bezels.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-galaxy-s9-2.jpg?x23692"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-164871" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-galaxy-s9-2-498x1024.jpg?x23692" alt="Samsung Galaxy S9+" width="498" height="1024" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-galaxy-s9-2-498x1024.jpg 498w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-galaxy-s9-2-146x300.jpg 146w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/samsung-galaxy-s9-2.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 498px) 100vw, 498px" /></a></p>

<p>Do note that this is definitely a clone and not the real phone and that fact is reflected in the price with which the device is listed. The device is listed with a 688 Yuan ( around $100) price tag and that is nowhere near the likely price of the Galaxy S9+. The real Samsung flagship is expected to come with a 6.2-inch full-colour curved screen and will be equipped with an SD 845 chip. The processor is backed by a 6GB RAM while a 3500mAh will provide the juice. The Galaxy S9 series is also expected to pack Google&#8217;s latest Android 8.0 Oreo operating system.</p>

While we cannot be so sure about that, there is a strong chance of that happening. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/11/23/samsung-galaxy-s9-plus-appearance-ces-2018/">tech giant may likely unveil the models at CES 2018</a> which usually holds in January. Expectedly, several renders of the Galaxy S9 have started appearing even long before now. However, we just have spotted the real pictures of the Galaxy S9 online. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-3.jpg?x23692"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-159818" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-3.jpg?x23692" alt="Samsung Galaxy S9" width="600" height="449" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-3.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-3-160x120.jpg 160w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The pictures which appeared on Twitter were shared by @venyagaskin1 who has a good track record with accurate renders even before the real phone gets unveiled. It wasn&#8217;t stated if the photos were real pictures of the Galaxy S9 but they look so real you&#8217;d hardly doubt if they are real. Another set of pictures also popped up on Twitter via Chinese tipster @UnverseIce. As for the design, the pictures reveal a continuation of the full-screen design first used on the Galaxy S8. The S9 is said to have an even more reduced bezel and a screen ratio of up to 90%. There is also a curved edge infinity display design on the Galaxy S9 and much of the change occurred on the chin where the bezels are narrower than that of the S8. The top bezel is also slightly reduced, leaving just enough room to hold the selfie camera, earpiece and other sensors.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-2.jpg?x23692"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-159817" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-2.jpg?x23692" alt="Samsung Galaxy S9" width="600" height="449" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-2.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-2-160x120.jpg 160w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>

<p>The Samsung Galaxy S9 is expected to feature a Snapdragon 845 chip on one of its versions while a second version will be equipped with an Exynos 9810 processor. The pictures/renders did not show the rear view of the device but we expect the Galaxy S9 to pack a dual camera setup at the rear this time around. The device is also expected to come with an iris scanner, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and would have facial recognition technology.</p>

Samsung was earlier tipped to utilise the technology on the Galaxy S8 but that never came to fruition. Now, with the sighting of a patent application which Samsung had filed back in April 2016 for a fingerprint technology integrated into the display, speculations of its inclusion on the Galaxy S9 became rife.</p>
<figure id="attachment_147492" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-147492" style="width: 600px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-Render.jpg?x23692"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-147492" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-Render.jpg?x23692" alt="Samsung Galaxy S9 Render" width="600" height="397" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-Render.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-Render-300x199.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-147492" class="wp-caption-text">Samsung Galaxy S9 Render</figcaption></figure>
<p>However, a new rumour out of China has emerged, stating that the next-generation Galaxy S9 would not feature the optical fingerprint technology where the sensor would be on the display. The report was short of stating why the tech giant would choose to stay put on that for the Galaxy S9. So, we may likely see a repeat of the rear-mounted fingerprint design as used on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 or one embedded on the home button. It must be noted that Samsung&#8217;s decision to relocate the fingerprint sensor to the back was not met with accolades rather,  a whole lot of fans were left disappointed.</p>

<p>Samsung isn&#8217;t the only company rumoured to be working on the optical fingerprint technology. U.S. chipmaker Qualcomm showcased its under-display fingerprint technology a few months back at the Shanghai Asian Mobile World Congress held in June. The technology was demonstrated onboard a prototype Vivo smartphone that looked like the XPlay 6. Subsequently, the Vivo XPlay 7 is tipped to come with the technology. For sure, this won&#8217;t be the last we&#8217;d be hearing about t the Galaxy S9&#8217;s fingerprint sensor.</p>

As per the latest rumour, the Galaxy S9 may feature a 3D sensor equipped front-facing camera.</p>
<p>With the addition of the new 3D sensor, the South Korean giant is aiming to improve facial recognition functionality. Apart from the accuracy, also expect improved safety features and better speed.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-render_.jpg?x23692"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-147319 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-render_.jpg?x23692" alt="Samsung Galaxy S9 render_" width="1280" height="720" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-render_.jpg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-render_-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-render_-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/Samsung-Galaxy-S9-render_-1024x576.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></a></p>
<p>Notably, Samsung has been offering facial recognition feature since it launched <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-note-7/">Galaxy Note 7</a>. The company has also introduced Iris scanner to Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8’s Face Unlock feature.</p>
<p>However, the facial recognition feature by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung/">Samsung</a> has often been criticized for not being the safest. With the introduction of Apple’s Face ID &#8212; released with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-x/">iPhone X</a>, the battle for better recognition and safety has moved a step forward.</p>
<p>It seems like Samsung is now headed towards Apple&#8217;s Face ID path. The company is working on its own 3D image mapping sensors. The camera takes a 3D scan of user&#8217;s face from all angles and then it is securely saved in the smartphone.</p>
<p>The technology will likely be similar to the TrueDepth system that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple/">Apple</a> uses. If this rumour turns out to be true, then the future of the iris and fingerprint sensor seems to be in jeopardy.</p>
<p>Other rumours related to the Galaxy S9 suggests that the phone could come with a rear-mounted dual camera system with its 3-layer image sensor.</p>
<p>Samsung&#8217;s recent patent filing indicates that there&#8217;s a possibility that the upcoming flagship smartphone from the company <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/10/12/samsung-galaxy-s9-may-feature-air-quality-sensor-patent-filing-suggests/">may come with an environmental sensor</a> that measures the quality of air by detecting various particles in the air.</p>
<p>Previous reports have revealed that the Galaxy S9, carrying a model number of SM-G960, will be powered by Qualcomm&#8217;s Snapdragon 845 chipset along with 6GB of RAM.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><span style="color: #ff0000"><strong>Read More:</strong></span> <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/09/18/samsung-galaxy-s9-reportedly-arriving-1000-fps-image-sensor/">Samsung&#8217;s Galaxy S9 Reportedly Arriving with 1,000 FPS Image Sensor</a></p>
<p>It is expected to feature an Infinity display that we saw on the Galaxy S8, with QHD+ resolution. It is pegged to come pre-installed with Android 8.0 Oreo operating system.</p>
<p>A recent report suggests that Samsung could <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/10/09/samsung-dibs-snapdragon-845-galaxy-s9/">exclusively get the initial bath of Snapdragon 845</a> processor for the Galaxy S9. It had worked out a similar deal with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm/">Qualcomm</a> for the initial batch of Snapdragon 835.</p>
