Samsung has begun rolling out the Android 14 OS based One UI 6 custom skin update for the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The latest software upgrade is currently being released in Singapore, so here are all the details.

Samsung rolls out One UI 6 Update for Galaxy Z Fold 5

The South Korean tech giant started releasing the One UI 6 update for its flagship Galaxy S23 series in SOuth Korea last month. Now, the brand has begun the broader roll out of the major update for other devices as well. The One UI 6 stable build is currently available on the Galaxy Z Fold 5. A user on Samsung’s community page shared that his Galaxy Z Fold 5 has received the update in Singapore.

As per the official description, the new update brings changes in the UI like a reworked quick settings panel for easier access among other features. Users are even getting an enhanced Home screen along with brand new emoji designs. Samsung also promises that One UI 6 is bringing other improvements to help improve users’ Galaxy experience. Notably, the company even released the update for the Verizon activated Galaxy Z Fold 5 in the US.

To check if you’ve received the update, head to “Settings”, then look for the “Software Update” menu. After this, check if the update is available on your device then tap on “Download and Install” to get the latest update. It is unknown if the Galaxy Z Flip 5 has also received the update in the region, so stick around for more updates regarding this matter.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 teardown reveals new shock dispersion layer

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is the company’s newest foldable phone, and it’s one of the best on the market. Samsung says that both the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 meet durability expectations. They have Armor Aluminum frames, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection for the cover screens and back panels, and an IPX8 rating for water resistance.

In addition, Samsung has added an extra layer to the phone’s foldable displays that is said to offer improved shock dispersion. Zack Nelson aka JerryRigEverything, a popular YouTuber who tears down phones, has taken the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 apart and shown the company’s new shock dispersion layer.

Taking apart a foldable phone is difficult, as shown in JerryRigEverything’s video (linked above). After heating up the corners of the inner displays and removing the plastic bumper, Nelson found it difficult to remove the display from the frame without damaging it.

Regardless, Nelson was able to remove the screen, revealing Samsung’s new shock dispersion layer. It appears to be a piece of black foam with circular cutouts. It is hard to understand how this works or if it will actually improve the phone’s durability. We may have to wait for a drop-test video to see how effective it is.

Nelson admitted that it is now obvious why Samsung does not talk much about the shock dispersion layer because it is not very exciting. Moreover, the hinge is another more talked-about upgrade this year, and JerryRigEverything found that it has a lot of moving parts.

Samsung explained in a video that the hinge has a dual rail structure that helps to diffuse external impacts. This is evident from the sheer number of screws, springs, and other small components that make up the three-part hinge. One of the main complaints about Samsung’s previous foldable phones was the hinge gap. Fortunately, the company’s engineers have made progress on this front and the phone can finally lay flat when it folded.

Recently Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in the global markets. Both devices have been up for pre-orders in multiple countries across the globe. The fifth-generation Foldales smashed pre-order records in its home country with the Flip 5 more popular than the Fold 5. Now, the brand has announced that India is the latest market where the devices have secured record bookings.

Samsung revealed that the company received 1,00,000 pre-bookings for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 in India. This was achieved in the first 28 hours of the opening of the pre-booking window on July 27th. The latest generation Z Fold 5 and z Flip 5 surpassed the last year’s Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 5. The figure is 1.7 times higher than the pre-bookings Samsung received for the last year’s models.

It’s worth noting that Samsung did not exactly reveal the pre-order numbers as of today for the fifth-generation foldable in India. They are only for the first 28 hours when the pre-order window opened and not for the two weeks till today. Samsung Southwest Asia CEO JB Park hopes that the new devices will help mainstream foldable and also help consolidate their leadership in India.

Some customers who pre-ordered the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 will get their units delivered on August 11. Additionally, Samsung also revealed that both foldable phones will be available for purchase starting August 18 at leading online and offline stores across the country. Samsung unveiled the fifth-generation Galaxy Z foldables last month. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 arrived with incremental upgrades over its predecessor but the Z Flip 5 packed significant changes compared to its last year’s model. Both foldable phones went up for pre-orders on the day of launch with shipments set to commence from August 11 in multiple countries across the globe. Now the South Korean brand has revealed that both devices have smashed pre-order records in its home market.

Samsung opened pre-orders for its latest-generation foldable phones in its home country on August 1. As of today, the company announced that it has received 1.02 million pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. It broke the previous record of 9,70,000 units held by the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 last year.

Samsung said that this time the Galaxy Z Flip 5 was more popular than the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The former recorded 70 percent of total pre-orders whereas its predecessor had accounted for approximately 60 percent of the pre-orders received during the one week from August 1. The latest clamshell foldable phone registered 7,14,000 units of pre-orders whereas the Fold 5 scored 3,06,000 units with still a few days to go for the closure of the pre-order window. The figures clearly indicate that more people were interested in the Galaxy Z Flip 5 which is no surprise considering that it got a significant upgrade with a larger secondary display.

Surprisingly, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 clocked 3,06,000 units in pre-order. It’s predecessor had recorded 3,88,000 pre-orders. This seems underwhelming despite the strong trade-in offers and the new Flex Hinge mechanism that leaves no gap between the two halves of the phone, smooth experience, and dust resistance.

Samsung India has confirmed that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 sold in India are assembled locally. The South Korean brand already has its biggest smartphone factory in Noida but the foldable phones were never made there. The previous generation Galaxy Z devices were assembled in South Korea and Vietnam. However, this changes now with the fifth-generation foldable phones.

While it’s good news that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 Indian units are made in the country, there is no respite for customers as the phones are pricier compared to their predecessors. Samsung today held its annual Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul, South Korea. The event witnessed the launch of several new products, including the most awaited Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. Debuting as a minor upgrade over the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the foldable brings a new hinge that lets it fold flat. You also get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chip from the flagship S23 series. Here are the details.

Design and Display

If you have seen the Galaxy Z Fold 4, you have also seen the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The camera module on the rear is the same as last gen model and so is the ingress protection (IPX8). What is not the same on the phone is the hinge. The company has opted for a new teardrop-shaped hinge that allows it to close flat. It will also let you use the phone at any angle. The Z Fold 5 measures 13.4mm thick when closed whereas the Fold 4 was 14.2mm thick. It has also lost some weight and is 10g lighter than the Z Fold 4, which weighs 263g.

The display on the phone hasn’t changed much either. The outer display measures 6.2 inches and offers a 2316x904px resolution. The AMOLED panel has a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. On the inside, you get a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X with 2176x1812px resolution, and an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. The main screen can reach a peak brightness of 1,750 nits.

Cameras and Other Specs

You’ll not find many changes in the hardware department. Sure, the new Galaxy Z Fold 5 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy but that’s about all. The camera system remains unchanged. There’s a 50MP primary shooter on the rear, accompanied by a 50MP wide-angle sensor, and a 10MP zoom camera. For selfies, you get a generous 10MP shooter on the cover screen and a 4MP under-display camera on the inside.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is fueled by the same 4,400mAh battery with support for 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. It runs Android 13-based One UI 5.1.1 on the software front with a redesigned taskbar, a two-handed drag-and-drop feature, among other features. Leaks and rumors have revealed plenty of details about the upcoming devices. Now reliable tipster Ishan Agarwal has shared Galaxy Unpacked event posters that give us an official look at the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5 posters emerge

The marketing posters confirm that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be offered in a Light Blue color option. We can spot a center-aligned punch-hole cutout on the primary display. There is a pill-shaped vertically stacked camera triple camera module. The foldable phone has a speaker grille and three microphone cutouts at the top.

The marketing posters also show Samsung’s official case for the Galaxy Z Fold 5. It will have a slot for the S-Pen on the right side of the case. The stylus is also seen in two different colors – Lime and Bronze. Meanwhile, the case is in Bronze and Blue hues.

Meanwhile, the marketing poster does not reveal much about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 apart from confirming the previously leaked renders. It has two horizontal camera sensors and an LED flash beside the top left corner of the back panel. There is a large secondary display and a metal frame.

It’s just a matter of a few days where we will learn about upcoming Samsung products next Wednesday.

Samsung has confirmed that its next Galaxy Unpacked event will be held on July 26. The company has confirmed that it will announce new foldable phones at the event. Even though the brand has not mentioned their names, it is quite evident that it will unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 on the said date. Ahead of the launch, it is now receiving pre-reservations for the upcoming foldables.

Pre-reservations for Samsung’s upcoming foldable phones have begun in several markets, including South Korea, the US, Europe, and India. In India, the upcoming Galaxy foldable phones will be sold through various channels, including Samsung India’s website, Amazon, Flipkart, Samsung Exclusive Stores, and retail outlets. The pre-reservations page for Galaxy Unpacked suggests that Samsung will also introduce new tablets and smartwatches during the same event.

This aligns with previous rumors indicating that the flagship Galaxy Tab S9 series tablets and the Galaxy Watch 6 series will be unveiled alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 on July 26.

In related news, Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy M34 mid-range phone with a price tag of Rs 16,999 in India. The device comes with a 6.4-inch AMOLED FHD+ 120Hz display, an Exynos 1280 chip, 50-megapixel triple rear cameras, and a 6,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging.

Samsung is rumored to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 on July 27, along with new premium tablets, Galaxy watches, and more. However, the star of the show will be the Galaxy Z Fold 5, which is rumored to come with a new and improved hinge mechanism along with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Ahead of the launch, the performance numbers of the smartphone have surfaced online via a Geekbench listing.

Spotted by Sammobile, the Geekbench listing reveals that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset inside the model number SM-F946B smartphone (Galaxy Z Fold 5 global model) has a base clock of 2.02GHz and a boost clock of 3.36GHz. It has an Android 13-based operating system equipped with 12GB RAM.

A series of new leaks have recently surfaced online, revealing the full specifications of the next gen flagship foldable smartphones from Samsung and even their design via leaked renders and live images. So here’s a breakdown of all the information on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

The South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 model is the top-end device in the upcoming 5th Gen Z series. Now, a new leak from SnoopyTech has revealed the design renders of the upcoming foldable phone as well as its full specs. Looking at the design first, we can tell that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 retains the design of its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 4, with a notebook-like horizontal folding primary display, a tall external screen, and a vertically stacked triple camera setup.

The primary panel is a 7.6 inch Dynamic AMOLED display with a 2,176 x 1,812 pixel resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, the cover display is a 6.2 inch Dynamic AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2,316 x 904 pixel resolution. Under the hood, the device will be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, which will be paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be powered by a 4,400mAh battery pack and will run on Android 13 OS based OneUI 5.1.1 out of the box.

The rear will house a 50 megapixel triple camera setup, while the front has a 5 megapixel under display camera on the primary screen and a 10 megapixel shooter on the secondary panel as well. On the other hand, the primary screen is a 6.7 inch Dynamic AMOLED panel with a Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 powers his device as well, with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage.

Other notable features include Android 13, USB Type-C 3.2, Bluetooth 5.2, and Wi-Fi 6E. The leak from SnoopyTech offers us a look at the design of this device as well, but a separate leak from Revegnus offers us a look at the device in public with a cover. Looking at the live image, we can see the taller cover display offering more functionality with its Always on Display displaying an analog clock.

Revegnus added that the Z Flip 5’s battery life will be similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 4 from its 3,700mAh battery pack. This model will also launch in multiple colors, which include Lavender, Mint, Cream, and Graphite color variants. Notably, the two foldable phones will be unveiled during the Galaxy Unpacked event next month alongside the new Galaxy Watch 6 series, Galaxy Tab S9 series, and Galaxy Buds 3.

Now, as per the latest report, the South Korean technology giant is expected to price the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 foldable smartphone lower than its predecessor, Galaxy Z Fold 4.

If the leaks are to be believed, then the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will feature a 7.6-inch QHD+ AMOLED primary display and a 6.5-inch Full HD+ AMOLED cover display, both screens offering support for a 120Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, the smartphone will come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, coupled with 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Looking at the tweet, the leak shared that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will sport a tall 7.6 inch AMOLED display for its primary display and a 6.2 inch AMOLED external screen as well. Both panels will feature 120Hz refresh rate. These screens will also be brighter than the previous gen model. Notably, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will even house an under display selfie camera.

Under the hood, the flagship premium grade foldable phone will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC that will apparently be paired with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and either 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. Continuing its tradition, Samsung is expected to unveil its fifth-generation foldables in August this year. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 has been subject to various leaks and rumors in the past. Now, the US version of the foldable phone has been spotted on the benchmarking platform Geekbench. It reveals the key specifications of the device.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is listed with the model number SM-F946U on the benchmarking database. The listing mentions the motherboard codenamed ‘kalama’ comprising of three cores at 2.02GHz, four cores at 2.80GHz, and a primary core clocked at 3.36GHz. The foldable phone is listed with 12GB RAM and we can expect more RAM and storage configurations at launch. Software-wise, it runs on Android 13 OS out of the box.
