Sony has unveiled the LYTIA 610, a new smartphone camera sensor aimed at improving zoom photography and video recording. The sensor introduces a redesigned pixel arrangement that promises sharper image output while maintaining reliable autofocus performance, an area where manufacturers often face trade-offs.

A new pixel structure focused on image quality

The LYTIA 610 is a 1/2-inch stacked CMOS sensor with approximately 64 megapixels and marks the industry’s first mass-produced sensor to feature Sony’s RB2×2 On Chip Lens (OCL) pixel structure. Unlike conventional designs, the new arrangement combines different lens structures within the same sensor to improve both detail capture and phase-detection autofocus.

Sony says green pixels, which contribute significantly to image clarity, use a dedicated 1×1 lens structure for better resolution. Meanwhile, red and blue pixels are grouped under a 2×2 lens design that supports autofocus functions. The company has also developed a dedicated remosaicing algorithm tailored to this layout. Together, these changes deliver more than 20 percent higher spatial resolution compared to the LYTIA 601, despite both sensors sharing the same 0.7μm pixel size.

Beyond photography, Sony has improved the sensor’s internal processing and data conversion system to significantly increase readout speeds. According to the company, the LYTIA 610 can read data at roughly twice the speed of its previous 1/2-inch sensor generation.

This improvement enables 4K video recording at up to 120fps, a first for Sony in this sensor category. The sensor also supports 4K 60fps HDR recording, making it suitable for scenes with challenging lighting conditions. Faster data handling can also help reduce visual differences between primary and secondary cameras in multi-camera smartphone setups, resulting in smoother transitions while recording video.

The LYTIA 610 measures 1/2 inch in optical format, offers around 64 effective megapixels, and supports output through MIPI C-PHY and D-PHY interfaces. Mass production shipments are scheduled to begin by the end of June 2026.

Sony has unveiled the LYTIA L910, a new camera sensor designed for smartphones that focuses on improving image quality in challenging lighting conditions. The sensor introduces several imaging technologies aimed at delivering more realistic photos and videos while keeping power consumption under control. It is also the first model in Sony’s LYTIA family to incorporate the company’s LOFIC architecture.

Designed for better HDR photography and low-light imaging

The LYTIA L910 is a 1/1.28-inch stacked CMOS sensor with approximately 50 effective megapixels and a 1.22μm pixel size. The key highlight is its ability to achieve a dynamic range of up to 100 dB from a single exposure. Unlike conventional HDR methods that combine multiple exposures, Sony’s approach captures the required image data in one shot, helping reduce motion blur and flickering when photographing moving subjects or bright light sources.

To achieve this, Sony has paired the LOFIC structure with Triple Conversion Gain HDR technology. The sensor reads information from a single exposure at three different conversion gains, enabling improved preservation of details in both bright and dark areas of a scene. The company says this helps minimise highlight clipping while also reducing noise in shadow regions, resulting in more balanced images with smoother tonal transitions.

Sony has also introduced Ultra High Conversion Gain circuit technology, which improves charge-to-voltage conversion efficiency. According to the company, random noise is reduced by around 30 per cent compared to the LYTIA 828 sensor, helping improve image quality in low-light environments such as night-time cityscapes illuminated by LED lights.

The sensor is further supported by an optimised circuit design that reduces power requirements during image processing. This enables 4K HDR video recording at 60fps while maintaining high dynamic range performance. The LYTIA L910 can capture full-resolution 50-megapixel images at up to 30fps and 12.5-megapixel images at up to 120fps.

Sony plans to begin mass-production shipments of the sensor in summer 2026. Likely, the Vivo X500 series and the Oppo Find X10 lineup will be the first to feature the Sony LYT-L910.

The all-new Sony Bravia 7 II series premium television lineup in India. The latest models introduce Sony’s True RGB technology, bringing independently controlled RGB LED lighting for more accurate colours and deeper contrast. Alongside improved visuals, the new TVs also focus on gaming, immersive sound, and AI-powered smart features designed for modern home entertainment setups.

The Bravia 7 II series is powered by Sony’s RGB Backlight Master Drive Pro technology, which independently controls red, green, and blue LEDs to improve color precision and contrast. Sony has paired this with the Cognitive Processor XR, enabling the TV to analyze scenes in a way that mimics human vision and hearing. The lineup also includes RGB Triluminos Max, Smooth Colour Gradation, and X-Wide Angle Pro technologies for wider viewing angles and more detailed colour transitions.

Sony is offering the Bravia 7 II in screen sizes ranging from 55-inch to 98-inch. The TVs support Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG, IMAX Enhanced, Dolby Atmos, and DTS formats for a theatre-like viewing experience. Acoustic Multi-Audio+ technology on larger variants places sound more accurately with on-screen action, while Voice Zoom 3 improves dialogue clarity during movies and shows.

For gamers, the Bravia 7 II supports 4K 120Hz gaming through HDMI 2.1 along with Variable Refresh Rate and Auto Low Latency Mode support. Features such as Game Menu 2, Dolby Vision Gaming, PS Remote Play, Auto HDR Tone Mapping, and Auto Genre Picture Mode are also included.

The televisions run Google TV and support Google Assistant, Apple AirPlay 2, Apple HomeKit, Chromecast, and Alexa-compatible devices. Sony has also confirmed that Gemini integration for Google TV will arrive through a future software update.

Sony Bravia 7 II price and availability

Sony has started pre-bookings for select Bravia 7 II models in India starting today. The 55-inch variant is priced at Rs 2,21,990, while the 65-inch model costs Rs 2,74,990. The 75-inch and 85-inch variants are expected to launch by the end of June, while the 98-inch model is scheduled for release by the end of July.

Sony has introduced a new high-end home audio system called the BRAVIA Theatre Trio, aiming to deliver a more immersive cinema-style experience without requiring a room full of wired speakers.

The system was unveiled during Sony’s 2026 home entertainment launch event and appears to sit near the top of the company’s current audio lineup. Instead of using a traditional multi-speaker surround setup, the BRAVIA Theatre Trio relies heavily on Sony’s spatial audio processing and virtual speaker technologies to create a wider sound field.

At the core of the system is Sony’s 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology, which generates multiple virtual speakers around the room to simulate a more expansive surround sound effect. Sony says the new version of its sound field system, called 360 Smart Dome Sound Field 3.0, was developed together with professional audio mixing studios.

One of the more interesting additions is a Cinema Enhancement Mode that attempts to recreate not just direct sound, but also the reflected audio effect you typically hear inside actual movie theaters. In theory, that should help movies feel a bit larger and more atmospheric compared to standard soundbars.

The setup itself includes three wireless speaker units along with a dedicated center channel. Sony is also offering optional upgrades for users who want a more complete surround system, including SW9 subwoofers and RS9 rear speakers.

As expected, pricing is firmly in premium territory. The BRAVIA Theatre Trio alone is priced at 14,990 yuan (~ €1,900) in China, while the fully upgraded package pushes close to 30,000 yuan.

The system supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, which is pretty much expected at this level, and Sony seems to be positioning it as a companion for large-screen BRAVIA TVs and projector setups.

Sony’s approach here leans heavily on its virtual speaker processing rather than simply adding more hardware. Whether it fully matches a traditional surround setup in real-world use is another question, but on paper at least, the BRAVIA Theatre Trio sounds like one of Sony’s more ambitious home audio systems in a while.

Sony is marking the 10th anniversary of its 1000X headphone lineup with a noticeably more premium take on the series. The new WH-1000X The ColleXion sits above the WH-1000XM6 in Sony’s lineup and leans heavily into luxury materials, nostalgia, and refined audio tuning rather than chasing dramatic new features.

The headphones borrow several design ideas from the original MDR-1000X from 2016, which was the model that started Sony’s now-dominant noise-canceling headphone lineup. This new version uses synthetic leather around the ear cup housing, larger ear pads, a wider headband, and stainless steel accents to create a more upscale feel overall.

Sony also appears to be prioritizing comfort more aggressively this time. The ear cushions are deeper and slightly wider than those on the XM6, and the overall structure looks more substantial. The foldable hinge design from older XM models is still gone, though, with the headphones instead folding inward similarly to the XM5 and XM6.

Under the hood, Sony is still using 30mm drivers, but the company says the new soft-edge driver design improves bass response and overall sound depth. There are also internal hardware tweaks, including a thicker copper substrate on the circuit board, which Sony claims helps improve detail and soundstage performance.

The company is adding more software processing as well. New 360 Upmix modes are designed specifically for movies, gaming, and music, while DSEE Ultimate AI upscaling returns for compressed audio enhancement. Sony also says the headphones were tuned alongside engineers from Battery Studios, Sterling Sound, and Coast Mastering.

Noise cancellation remains one of the main selling points. The ColleXion uses Sony’s QN3 processor alongside a newer V3 chip and a 12-microphone setup for adaptive ANC.

Battery life lands at up to 24 hours with ANC enabled and 32 hours without it. That is slightly below the XM6, though still comfortably within flagship territory.

The biggest difference, however, is probably the price. Sony is charging $649 for the ColleXion, putting it roughly $200 above the XM6. That makes it less of a mainstream upgrade and more of a niche luxury version for buyers who want the most premium version of Sony’s headphone design philosophy.

Realistically, most people probably will still gravitate toward the XM6. But for longtime Sony headphone fans, the ColleXion feels more like a commemorative flagship built around materials, comfort, and presentation rather than pure specs alone.

The lawsuit, filed in California earlier this month, centers around PS5 pricing changes made in August 2025. Things became more complicated after the US Supreme Court ruled those tariffs unlawful earlier this year. That decision potentially opened the door for companies to recover some of the tariff money through refunds from US Customs and Border Protection.

According to the plaintiffs, that creates a problem. The lawsuit claims consumers may have effectively paid higher PS5 prices because of tariffs while companies could still end up reclaiming some of those same costs afterward. In simple terms, critics argue companies might have passed the costs onto buyers while also seeking reimbursement later.

The lawsuit specifically accuses Sony of unfairly profiting from the situation, though it is important to note there is currently no proof the company intentionally engaged in wrongdoing. Sony also never said tariffs were the only reason behind the price increases. Like most electronics manufacturers at the time, the company was also dealing with higher logistics costs, component shortages, currency fluctuations, and general inflation across the supply chain.

The case is seeking refunds for consumers who bought PlayStation consoles during the affected pricing period.

Sony is not alone here either. Similar legal complaints have reportedly targeted other major companies, including Nintendo, Amazon, Nike, and Adidas, as frustration grows around how corporations handled tariff-related pricing during that period.

At the center of all this is a broader question that goes beyond gaming: when companies raise prices because of temporary external pressures, should those prices come back down once those pressures disappear?

The internet already mocked Apple for advertising the iPhone Air at 5.64mm despite its huge camera bar reaching roughly 11.32mm in thickness. Now Sony seems to be taking things a step further by excluding part of the phone body users actually hold.

Sony might have some justification for this new way of measuring thickness, just as it did during the recent AI Camera Assistant controversy. Unfortunately, there has been no official response so far, so we cannot say for sure how the company measured the Xperia 1 VIII and arrived at the 8.3mm figure.

Most people probably would never notice a 0.29mm difference in daily use. Still, the situation touches on a larger issue that has existed in the smartphone industry for years. Brands often advertise the thinnest possible point of a device while ignoring protruding camera bumps or slightly raised glass edges.

Some companies even end up with small dimension differences between color variants because of coating layers or material changes, yet the marketing almost always highlights the smallest number possible.

At the end of the day, this is not exactly a scandal-level controversy. But it does highlight how smartphone measurements can sometimes be more complicated than the clean numbers listed on product pages. For buyers who care about ergonomics and in-hand feel, independent measurements and hands-on reviews still matter quite a bit.

Rather than looking improved, the AI-processed shots appeared massively overexposed. Highlights were blown out, colors looked washed, and in some examples, details nearly disappeared entirely. One portrait sample in particular drew attention because the subject’s face looked almost faded away after processing.

The reaction online was immediate. Nothing CEO Carl Pei reposted the images with the comment, “This must be engagement farming??” Other creators joined in as well, and before long, social media had turned the whole thing into a meme. Users started posting exaggerated “AI enhanced” edits of their own, some reduced to completely white images with sarcastic captions thanking Sony for the upgrade.

Sony later clarified that the AI Camera Assistant is not meant to automatically edit photos after capture. The feature instead suggests different shooting styles and settings based on the scene, including exposure, color tone, lens effects, and bokeh adjustments. Users can then pick one of those styles or ignore them entirely.

The company also shared additional examples afterward that looked considerably more reasonable than the originals.

Wearable climate control often feels like a novelty, but Sony has been steadily developing its Reon Pocket lineup in Japan since 2019. Now, the company is launching its latest version, the Reon Pocket Pro Plus, in the US. Retailing for €229 in Europe and £199 in the UK (approximately $268), this compact device is a personal temperature regulator designed to rest on the back of your neck.

According to Sony, this version improves cooling performance by 20% compared to the previous generation. The cooling plate can drop an additional 2 degrees Celsius, which should make a noticeable difference in how cold it actually feels against your skin when you are walking outside.

The physical design has also been tweaked to make it easier to wear. Sony added a flexible neckband that grips your shoulders a bit better, keeping the main unit from shifting around when you walk or bend over. More importantly, the exhaust vent is now adjustable. You can extend it and change the angle so that the hot air blowing out of the device doesn’t get trapped under a high shirt collar or jacket.

Inside, the device uses dual thermo-modules and a sensor system to monitor your skin temperature. If you use the companion app, you can set a target temperature, and the device’s smart modes will automatically adjust its output as your environment changes. If you don’t want to rely on your phone, there are physical buttons on the side to turn it on and switch between heating and cooling modes.

Sony says the battery lasts up to 15 hours on the smart cooling setting, and because it operates quietly, you can wear it indoors or at work without bothering anyone. The company is also offering a companion accessory called the Wearable Sensing Device (or Reon Pocket Tag 2). It is a small sensor you can clip to your bag or belt loop that measures the ambient temperature and humidity, feeding that data back to the main unit so it can adjust itself more accurately.

The Reon Pocket Pro Plus will be sold exclusively through Sony’s online store in the US starting in the summer of 2026. The exact US pricing isn’t announced yet.

Color options are also expected to expand a bit this year, with reports mentioning Graphite Black, Iolite Silver, Garnet Red, and Native Gold variants.

Cameras remain the bigger talking point

Sony is reportedly changing direction with the telephoto system on this generation. Instead of continuing with the variable continuous zoom setup found on the Xperia 1 VII, the new model is expected to use a fixed 3x optical zoom periscope camera with a 48MP 1/1.56-inch sensor. On paper, that sounds like a downgrade. The Xperia 1 VII could smoothly shift between 85mm and 170mm focal lengths (roughly 3.5x-7.1x), something no phones offer as of early 2026. But Sony seems to be compensating in another area that arguably matters more for everyday use: sensor size.

A much larger telephoto sensor (rumored)

The new telephoto camera is said to use a much larger 48MP 1/1.56-inch sensor, replacing the older 12MP 1/3.5-inch unit. That’s a pretty big jump, and it should help with light capture, detail, and low-light performance. There’s a chance the trade-off could actually work in Sony’s favor.

While the extreme long-range zoom from the older model may be gone, most users could end up getting better-looking photos in the focal lengths they actually use more often. The main and ultra-wide cameras reportedly stay familiar, sticking to 24mm and 16mm equivalents.

Outside the camera system, benchmark listings show the Xperia 1 VIII (Sony XQ-GE54) running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip paired with 12GB RAM. Geekbench scores floating around online point to flagship-level performance.

Interestingly, the image description on the page mentioned a person wearing white “1000X The Collexion” headphones, suggesting at least one lighter color option. There are also talks of a black version, so Sony might be going for a more premium, minimal look here.

What really stands out is the model number: WH-1000XX. That naming is a bit unusual, and it’s what’s fueling speculation that this could be a 10-year anniversary edition of the 1000X series. Considering how important that lineup has been for Sony, it wouldn’t be surprising if they’re planning something a bit more polished than usual.

There’s also a teaser line tied to the listing, “Master the art of listening,” which, yeah, sounds like typical marketing, but it does hint at some kind of upgrade beyond what the XM6 already offers. Could be better drivers, tuning tweaks, or even something new on the processing side, but nothing concrete yet.

Pricing, however, does give us a clue about positioning. The leak points to around €630, which clearly puts it in proper flagship territory, above the current XM6 pricing. So this isn’t just a cosmetic refresh.

The monitor delivers a 540Hz refresh rate at 1440p, along with a 0.02ms response time. It also includes a Dual Mode setting that switches to HD resolution with up to a 720Hz refresh rate. This allows users to choose between higher resolution or faster performance depending on the game.

Sony has reworked Motion Blur Reduction to avoid the usual drop in brightness. Instead of dimming the display, the monitor boosts brightness during active frames. This keeps motion sharp while maintaining visibility. A Super Anti-glare Film further reduces reflections and helps maintain a clear view in different lighting conditions.

The stand has been updated with input from Fnatic. It offers a tilt range from -5° to 35° and uses a compact, centered design that leaves more desk space for peripherals. The panel is just 4mm thin, allowing for flexible setups, including placing angled keyboards closer to the screen.

A tournament mode is also included. Users can switch from the full 27-inch display to a 24.5-inch view at 1332p or 1080p, matching the screen sizes commonly used in esports events. The monitor features two preset modes for gameplay. FPS Pro mode replicates the look of standard LCD esports monitors, while FPS Pro+ mode uses OLED to deliver higher contrast and improved detail.

In a notice published on its Japanese website, Sony said the move is due to a global shortage of semiconductors, specifically memory, which has made it difficult to meet demand.

Sony added that it does not have a timeline for when orders will resume. The company said it will monitor supply conditions and announce updates later. While some low-end SD cards may still be in production, most of its memory card lineup is affected. For now, existing retail stock may be the last available units for some time.

This situation points to a broader change happening in the semiconductor industry. Memory makers are now focusing more on higher-margin products like high-bandwidth memory and server-grade DRAM, which are widely used in AI data centers. As a result, there’s less supply available for consumer NAND flash and standard DRAM.

The impact is already visible across the market. Western Digital said earlier this year that it had sold out its entire hard drive supply for 2026, months in advance. Still, the groundwork seems to be well underway, and both Sony and AMD appear fairly confident about where things are headed.

Why does that matter? Ribbon cables are fragile. During disassembly, especially when trying to replace aging batteries, they’re easy to tear. Removing that component simplifies the process and reduces the risk of accidental damage. For a product category often criticized for being difficult to repair, that’s a meaningful step.

Inside the earbuds

Internal photos reveal Bluetooth antenna contacts, touch sensor connectors, microphone openings, and a MEMS mic mounted directly on the board. There’s also a transparent plastic layer on top, a small design touch that visually separates this generation from earlier leaks.

Later, the PS5 Pro reportedly integrated newer RDNA 4 features while still maintaining a custom structure. Sony has historically worked closely with AMD to tailor architectures rather than simply adopting them wholesale.

Cost appears to be the main factor

Rumors suggest the PS6 could feature a Zen 6 CPU and around 30GB of memory, possibly GDDR7. That alone would push component costs higher than previous generations, especially if memory pricing remains volatile over the next few years.

A full RDNA 5 GPU, particularly one sized for high-end console performance, would add even more expense. By selectively implementing features instead of using the complete architecture, Sony may be trying to strike a balance between performance gains and retail pricing.

That strategy would align with how Sony has positioned past consoles: strong performance, but still within reach for mainstream buyers.
