Sony appears to be getting ready to add two new models to its affordable headphone lineup, and they could arrive pretty soon. A new leak has revealed a possible launch date for the Sony WH-CH730N and WH-CH530, along with their expected prices, colors, and some other details. According to well-known leaker Roland Quandt, both headphones could go on sale as early as September 7.

The WH-CH730N is expected to sit above the entry-level WH-CH530 and could serve as the successor to the WH-CH720N. What’s particularly interesting this time is the reported price. The latest leak puts the European price at just €69.99, which would be less than half the €149 launch price of the WH-CH720N in 2023. Despite the much lower price, the new model is still expected to offer active noise cancellation (ANC).

There is a bit of a trade-off in terms of weight, though. The WH-CH730N is reportedly 220 grams, compared with 192 grams for the WH-CH720N. That’s 28 grams heavier, or roughly a 14.6% increase. The headphones are also expected to come in four colors: black, pink, blue, and sand. Sony could, of course, give these colors different names when the headphones officially launch.

Previous retail leaks have also suggested that the WH-CH730N will feature Bluetooth connectivity, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port. None of these details have been confirmed by Sony yet.

The WH-CH530, meanwhile, is expected to be the cheaper option of the two. The latest leak suggests a €34.99 price tag, with five color options: black, blue, mint green, pink, and white. Unlike the WH-CH730N, the entry-level model is reportedly expected to skip ANC.

If the September 7 date turns out to be accurate, there’s a good chance we’ll see both headphones at IFA 2026 in Berlin.

Those leaked promo images and the Geekbench listing from earlier this week were right on the money. Sony has now officially unveiled the Xperia 10 VIII at a press conference, and the phone looks almost exactly like the leaks suggested.

Sony is sticking with the same clean, notch-free, and punch-hole-free design it has used for years. The bezels on the sides are fairly slim, while the top and bottom are noticeably thicker than those on most phones in this price range. Up front, there’s a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Sony says the screen is also 50% brighter than the one on last year’s model.

The device retains the familiar camera shutter button on the right side, while the dual speakers have been updated for what Sony says is fuller sound. 

Around the back, the Xperia 10 VIII has a dual-camera setup. It includes a 50MP main camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor and a 13MP ultra-wide camera. 

The battery is also unchanged. The Xperia 10 VIII packs a 5,000mAh cell, and Sony once again claims the phone can last for up to two days on a single charge.

The Same Chip Makes a Return

Inside, things are even more familiar. The Xperia 10 VIII runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It ships with Android 16.

The problem is that the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 is the same chip used in the Xperia 10 VII. So while the new phone gets some design and software changes, don’t expect a big jump in performance. 

The biggest new feature comes from the software. Sony has added a Point & Pay function that lets you double-press the power button to access payment QR codes and loyalty cards quickly. 

The Sony Xperia 10 VIII is priced at 599 Euros (~ USD 698). The phone will launch in Europe starting from mid to late September.

A first promotional image of Sony’s next mid-range Xperia phone has popped up just days before it’s expected to be unveiled.

After Sony announced a launch event for Tuesday, a design leak spotted by Android Headlines gives us an early look at what seems to be the Xperia 10 VIII. The image shows the back of the phone in a promotional setting.

Sony last refreshed the camera module on the Xperia 10 series with the seventh-generation model last September, and not much appears to have changed this time around. From the rear, the Xperia 10 VIII looks very similar to its predecessor. The horizontal camera island with dual sensors and the Sony logo is still there. The main difference is a small color tweak: last year’s pure white has been swapped for a slightly greenish-shimmering white.

Apart from the design, details are still pretty thin. A recent Geekbench listing points to the same Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor and 8GB of RAM that powered the Xperia 10 VII. So far there haven’t been any solid leaks about the cameras, display, battery, or other specs. Early signs suggest this might be a fairly conservative update focused more on refining things than making big hardware jumps.

For reference, the Xperia 10 VII came with a 50MP main camera (1/1.56″), a 13MP ultrawide (1/3.0″), and a modest 8MP selfie camera. Battery capacity was also on the modest side at 5,000mAh. On the plus side, the phone stayed nice and compact: its 6.1-inch 19.5:9 FHD+ display is smaller than the standard Galaxy S26’s 6.3″ screen, and it weighed just 168g.

Sony’s event on Tuesday should give us the full picture: complete specs, pricing, and availability. Until then, the leaked image and the Geekbench listing are the clearest look we’ve got at the next Xperia 10 phone. The familiar design and mid-range chipset suggest Sony is sticking with continuity for this year’s mid-tier offering.

A new Sony phone with model number XQ-GH54 has turned up on Geekbench, and Japanese outlet Sumaho Digest has confirmed it as the Sony Xperia 10 VIII. 

The confirmation lines up with an earlier leak pointing to Sony’s next mid-range phone, which suggested the device would carry the Xperia 10 name rather than a revived Xperia 5.

According to previous reports, Sony’s 2026 Xperia lineup will split into two naming groups: models starting with “XQ-GE” and models starting with “XQ-GH.” The XQ-GH54 you’re looking at here is believed to be the European variant of the Xperia 10 VIII.

On the benchmark front, the phone posted 871 points in single-core and 3,028 points in multi-core on Geekbench 7.0. Its motherboard shows up under the codename “parrot,” and the CPU field lists “SM6475”, which is the internal codename for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. That means the Xperia 10 VIII is carrying over the same chip as the Xperia 10 VII. 

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 itself dates back to August 2024. It’s built on a 4nm process and tops out at 2.4GHz, and it is an affordable option for budget-friendly devices rather than a performance flagship. Reusing it keeps costs down for Sony, though it also means you shouldn’t expect a big leap in raw power over the outgoing model.

Sony has an event planned for August 25, where it’s likely to unveil the Xperia 10 VIII.

Sony seems to be getting a head start on its next Xperia flagship, and some early database listings are giving us the first solid hints that a successor is already in the works.

Japanese publication S-Max has spotted three new model numbers in the GSMA’s IMEI database that follow the usual pattern for the Xperia 1 series. These entries, registered around early August, point to the Xperia 1 IX as a 2027 phone.

The codes are XQ-HH44 (Japan-focused and eSIM-only), XQ-HH54 (Europe), and XQ-HH74 (other markets, including Greater China). In Sony’s system, the leading “H” means 2027 model year, and the “4” at the end confirms eSIM support. The internal names listed with them are PM-1545-BV, PM-1540-BV, and PM-1541-BV. Some reports also mention that the Japanese version is marked as compatible with 3GPP satellite communication standards.

The Walkman Blog pointed out that the Xperia 1 VIII showed up in the same database in November 2025 and the 1 VII in October 2024. Seeing the IX listed this early doesn’t automatically mean it’ll launch sooner, as registration timing can vary for regulatory or production reasons. Still, the fact that these numbers appeared so soon after the VIII’s release shows Sony is already working on the next generation instead of scaling back its smartphone efforts.

Sony has expanded its premium TV lineup in India with two new large-screen models, the Bravia 9 II 115-inch and Bravia 7 II 98-inch. The latest additions bring Sony’s RGB Backlight Master Drive Pro technology to larger displays while retaining flagship picture, gaming, and smart TV features.

Sony’s largest True RGB TVs arrive in India

The highlight is the Bravia 9 II 115-inch, which is now the biggest television Sony has introduced in India. It features a 4K LCD panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and the company’s RGB Backlight Master Drive Pro technology, which independently controls red, green, and blue LEDs instead of relying on a conventional white or blue LED backlight with color filters.

Sony says this delivers a wider color volume, deeper blacks, reduced blooming, and improved viewing angles. Sony has unveiled the LYTIA 610, a new smartphone camera sensor aimed at improving zoom photography and video recording. The sensor introduces a redesigned pixel arrangement that promises sharper image output while maintaining reliable autofocus performance, an area where manufacturers often face trade-offs.

A new pixel structure focused on image quality

The LYTIA 610 is a 1/2-inch stacked CMOS sensor with approximately 64 megapixels and marks the industry’s first mass-produced sensor to feature Sony’s RB2×2 On Chip Lens (OCL) pixel structure. Unlike conventional designs, the new arrangement combines different lens structures within the same sensor to improve both detail capture and phase-detection autofocus.

Sony says green pixels, which contribute significantly to image clarity, use a dedicated 1×1 lens structure for better resolution. Meanwhile, red and blue pixels are grouped under a 2×2 lens design that supports autofocus functions. The company has also developed a dedicated remosaicing algorithm tailored to this layout. Together, these changes deliver more than 20 percent higher spatial resolution compared to the LYTIA 601, despite both sensors sharing the same 0.7μm pixel size.

Beyond photography, Sony has improved the sensor’s internal processing and data conversion system to significantly increase readout speeds. According to the company, the LYTIA 610 can read data at roughly twice the speed of its previous 1/2-inch sensor generation.

This improvement enables 4K video recording at up to 120fps, a first for Sony in this sensor category. The sensor also supports 4K 60fps HDR recording, making it suitable for scenes with challenging lighting conditions. Faster data handling can also help reduce visual differences between primary and secondary cameras in multi-camera smartphone setups, resulting in smoother transitions while recording video.

The LYTIA 610 measures 1/2 inch in optical format, offers around 64 effective megapixels, and supports output through MIPI C-PHY and D-PHY interfaces. Mass production shipments are scheduled to begin by the end of June 2026.

Sony has unveiled the LYTIA L910, a new camera sensor designed for smartphones that focuses on improving image quality in challenging lighting conditions. The sensor introduces several imaging technologies aimed at delivering more realistic photos and videos while keeping power consumption under control. It is also the first model in Sony’s LYTIA family to incorporate the company’s LOFIC architecture.

Designed for better HDR photography and low-light imaging

The LYTIA L910 is a 1/1.28-inch stacked CMOS sensor with approximately 50 effective megapixels and a 1.22μm pixel size. The key highlight is its ability to achieve a dynamic range of up to 100 dB from a single exposure. Unlike conventional HDR methods that combine multiple exposures, Sony’s approach captures the required image data in one shot, helping reduce motion blur and flickering when photographing moving subjects or bright light sources.

To achieve this, Sony has paired the LOFIC structure with Triple Conversion Gain HDR technology. The sensor reads information from a single exposure at three different conversion gains, enabling improved preservation of details in both bright and dark areas of a scene. The company says this helps minimise highlight clipping while also reducing noise in shadow regions, resulting in more balanced images with smoother tonal transitions.

Sony has also introduced Ultra High Conversion Gain circuit technology, which improves charge-to-voltage conversion efficiency. According to the company, random noise is reduced by around 30 per cent compared to the LYTIA 828 sensor, helping improve image quality in low-light environments such as night-time cityscapes illuminated by LED lights.

The sensor is further supported by an optimised circuit design that reduces power requirements during image processing. This enables 4K HDR video recording at 60fps while maintaining high dynamic range performance. The LYTIA L910 can capture full-resolution 50-megapixel images at up to 30fps and 12.5-megapixel images at up to 120fps.

Sony plans to begin mass-production shipments of the sensor in summer 2026. Likely, the Vivo X500 series and the Oppo Find X10 lineup will be the first to feature the Sony LYT-L910.

Sony has introduced a new high-end home audio system called the BRAVIA Theatre Trio, aiming to deliver a more immersive cinema-style experience without requiring a room full of wired speakers.

The system was unveiled during Sony’s 2026 home entertainment launch event and appears to sit near the top of the company’s current audio lineup. Instead of using a traditional multi-speaker surround setup, the BRAVIA Theatre Trio relies heavily on Sony’s spatial audio processing and virtual speaker technologies to create a wider sound field.

At the core of the system is Sony’s 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology, which generates multiple virtual speakers around the room to simulate a more expansive surround sound effect. Sony says the new version of its sound field system, called 360 Smart Dome Sound Field 3.0, was developed together with professional audio mixing studios.

One of the more interesting additions is a Cinema Enhancement Mode that attempts to recreate not just direct sound, but also the reflected audio effect you typically hear inside actual movie theaters. In theory, that should help movies feel a bit larger and more atmospheric compared to standard soundbars.

The setup itself includes three wireless speaker units along with a dedicated center channel. Sony is also offering optional upgrades for users who want a more complete surround system, including SW9 subwoofers and RS9 rear speakers.

As expected, pricing is firmly in premium territory. The BRAVIA Theatre Trio alone is priced at 14,990 yuan (~ €1,900) in China, while the fully upgraded package pushes close to 30,000 yuan.

The system supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, which is pretty much expected at this level, and Sony seems to be positioning it as a companion for large-screen BRAVIA TVs and projector setups.

Sony’s approach here leans heavily on its virtual speaker processing rather than simply adding more hardware. Whether it fully matches a traditional surround setup in real-world use is another question, but on paper at least, the BRAVIA Theatre Trio sounds like one of Sony’s more ambitious home audio systems in a while.

Sony is marking the 10th anniversary of its 1000X headphone lineup with a noticeably more premium take on the series. The new WH-1000X The ColleXion sits above the WH-1000XM6 in Sony’s lineup and leans heavily into luxury materials, nostalgia, and refined audio tuning rather than chasing dramatic new features.

The headphones borrow several design ideas from the original MDR-1000X from 2016, which was the model that started Sony’s now-dominant noise-canceling headphone lineup. This new version uses synthetic leather around the ear cup housing, larger ear pads, a wider headband, and stainless steel accents to create a more upscale feel overall.

Sony also appears to be prioritizing comfort more aggressively this time. The ear cushions are deeper and slightly wider than those on the XM6, and the overall structure looks more substantial. The foldable hinge design from older XM models is still gone, though, with the headphones instead folding inward similarly to the XM5 and XM6.

Under the hood, Sony is still using 30mm drivers, but the company says the new soft-edge driver design improves bass response and overall sound depth. There are also internal hardware tweaks, including a thicker copper substrate on the circuit board, which Sony claims helps improve detail and soundstage performance.

The company is adding more software processing as well. New 360 Upmix modes are designed specifically for movies, gaming, and music, while DSEE Ultimate AI upscaling returns for compressed audio enhancement. Sony also says the headphones were tuned alongside engineers from Battery Studios, Sterling Sound, and Coast Mastering.

Noise cancellation remains one of the main selling points. The ColleXion uses Sony’s QN3 processor alongside a newer V3 chip and a 12-microphone setup for adaptive ANC.

Battery life lands at up to 24 hours with ANC enabled and 32 hours without it. That is slightly below the XM6, though still comfortably within flagship territory.

The biggest difference, however, is probably the price. Sony is charging $649 for the ColleXion, putting it roughly $200 above the XM6. That makes it less of a mainstream upgrade and more of a niche luxury version for buyers who want the most premium version of Sony’s headphone design philosophy.

Realistically, most people probably will still gravitate toward the XM6. But for longtime Sony headphone fans, the ColleXion feels more like a commemorative flagship built around materials, comfort, and presentation rather than pure specs alone.

The lawsuit, filed in California earlier this month, centers around PS5 pricing changes made in August 2025. Things became more complicated after the US Supreme Court ruled those tariffs unlawful earlier this year. That decision potentially opened the door for companies to recover some of the tariff money through refunds from US Customs and Border Protection.

According to the plaintiffs, that creates a problem. The lawsuit claims consumers may have effectively paid higher PS5 prices because of tariffs while companies could still end up reclaiming some of those same costs afterward. In simple terms, critics argue companies might have passed the costs onto buyers while also seeking reimbursement later.

The lawsuit specifically accuses Sony of unfairly profiting from the situation, though it is important to note there is currently no proof the company intentionally engaged in wrongdoing. Sony also never said tariffs were the only reason behind the price increases. Like most electronics manufacturers at the time, the company was also dealing with higher logistics costs, component shortages, currency fluctuations, and general inflation across the supply chain.

The case is seeking refunds for consumers who bought PlayStation consoles during the affected pricing period.

Sony is not alone here either. Similar legal complaints have reportedly targeted other major companies, including Nintendo, Amazon, Nike, and Adidas, as frustration grows around how corporations handled tariff-related pricing during that period.

At the center of all this is a broader question that goes beyond gaming: when companies raise prices because of temporary external pressures, should those prices come back down once those pressures disappear?

Sony has not publicly responded to the lawsuit in detail so far. But the case will probably be watched closely, especially by gaming communities already frustrated with rising console and game prices over the past few years.

The front and rear glass panels of the Xperia 1 VIII sit slightly above the metal frame, which Sony could be excluding from its thickness measurements. In other words, Sony appears to be measuring just the middle frame thickness.

The internet already mocked Apple for advertising the iPhone Air at 5.64mm despite its huge camera bar reaching roughly 11.32mm in thickness. Now Sony seems to be taking things a step further by excluding part of the phone body users actually hold.

Sony might have some justification for this new way of measuring thickness, just as it did during the recent AI Camera Assistant controversy. Unfortunately, there has been no official response so far, so we cannot say for sure how the company measured the Xperia 1 VIII and arrived at the 8.3mm figure.

Most people probably would never notice a 0.29mm difference in daily use. Still, the situation touches on a larger issue that has existed in the smartphone industry for years. Brands often advertise the thinnest possible point of a device while ignoring protruding camera bumps or slightly raised glass edges.

Some companies even end up with small dimension differences between color variants because of coating layers or material changes, yet the marketing almost always highlights the smallest number possible.

At the end of the day, this is not exactly a scandal-level controversy. But it does highlight how smartphone measurements can sometimes be more complicated than the clean numbers listed on product pages. For buyers who care about ergonomics and in-hand feel, independent measurements and hands-on reviews still matter quite a bit.

The Xperia 1 VIII launched on May 13 with flagship hardware, including the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, ZEISS-branded cameras, expandable storage, and even a headphone jack — features Sony continues to keep around while most brands have moved on. But shortly after launch, Sony’s official Xperia account on X posted a set of “before and after” images to showcase the phone’s new AI Camera Assistant feature, and things quickly went sideways.

Rather than looking improved, the AI-processed shots appeared massively overexposed. Highlights were blown out, colors looked washed, and in some examples, details nearly disappeared entirely. One portrait sample in particular drew attention because the subject’s face looked almost faded away after processing.

The reaction online was immediate. Nothing CEO Carl Pei reposted the images with the comment, “This must be engagement farming??” Other creators joined in as well, and before long, social media had turned the whole thing into a meme. Users started posting exaggerated “AI enhanced” edits of their own, some reduced to completely white images with sarcastic captions thanking Sony for the upgrade.

Sony later clarified that the AI Camera Assistant is not meant to automatically edit photos after capture. The feature instead suggests different shooting styles and settings based on the scene, including exposure, color tone, lens effects, and bokeh adjustments. Users can then pick one of those styles or ignore them entirely.

The company also shared additional examples afterward that looked considerably more reasonable than the originals.

Whether it was simply a poor marketing example or indeed an engagement farming, the situation ended up overshadowing part of the Xperia 1 VIII launch. Ironically, the phone itself is still receiving fairly positive reactions for its hardware and camera-focused approach.

Overall, the look feels more upscale and lifestyle-focused while still keeping the familiar over-ear design of the 1000X lineup intact.

Sony has already started teasing the product ahead of launch. In a recent teaser video posted by Sony with the tagline “A masterpiece awaits…”, the company briefly showcased parts of the design, effectively confirming that the upcoming reveal is for the WH-1000XX The ColleXion. Wearable climate control often feels like a novelty, but Sony has been steadily developing its Reon Pocket lineup in Japan since 2019. Now, the company is launching its latest version, the Reon Pocket Pro Plus, in the US. Retailing for €229 in Europe and £199 in the UK (approximately $268), this compact device is a personal temperature regulator designed to rest on the back of your neck.

According to Sony, this version improves cooling performance by 20% compared to the previous generation. The cooling plate can drop an additional 2 degrees Celsius, which should make a noticeable difference in how cold it actually feels against your skin when you are walking outside.

The physical design has also been tweaked to make it easier to wear. Sony added a flexible neckband that grips your shoulders a bit better, keeping the main unit from shifting around when you walk or bend over. More importantly, the exhaust vent is now adjustable. You can extend it and change the angle so that the hot air blowing out of the device doesn’t get trapped under a high shirt collar or jacket.

Inside, the device uses dual thermo-modules and a sensor system to monitor your skin temperature. If you use the companion app, you can set a target temperature, and the device’s smart modes will automatically adjust its output as your environment changes. If you don’t want to rely on your phone, there are physical buttons on the side to turn it on and switch between heating and cooling modes.

Sony says the battery lasts up to 15 hours on the smart cooling setting, and because it operates quietly, you can wear it indoors or at work without bothering anyone. The company is also offering a companion accessory called the Wearable Sensing Device (or Reon Pocket Tag 2). It is a small sensor you can clip to your bag or belt loop that measures the ambient temperature and humidity, feeding that data back to the main unit so it can adjust itself more accurately.

The Reon Pocket Pro Plus will be sold exclusively through Sony’s online store in the US starting in the summer of 2026. The exact US pricing isn’t announced yet.

Leaks suggest the phone will feature a 6.5-inch 120Hz OLED panel with FHD+ HDR support, alongside Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and 12GB RAM. Color options are also expected to expand a bit this year, with reports mentioning Graphite Black, Iolite Silver, Garnet Red, and Native Gold variants.

Cameras remain the bigger talking point

Sony is reportedly changing direction with the telephoto system on this generation. Instead of continuing with the variable continuous zoom setup found on the Xperia 1 VII, the new model is expected to use a fixed 3x optical zoom periscope camera with a 48MP 1/1.56-inch sensor. The predecessor, in comparison, packs a much smaller 12MP sensor. On paper, that may sound like a downgrade in flexibility, but the larger sensor could improve detail, low-light performance, and image consistency in the zoom ranges people actually use most often.

The rest of the rear camera setup is rumored to include two additional 48MP sensors for the main and ultra-wide cameras. Selfies could once again be handled by a 12MP front-facing sensor, just like last year. Battery capacity is rumored to sit around the 5,000mAh mark, with IP68 water resistance also likely making a return.

Some early Amazon listings, which were later removed, hinted at European pricing above €1,800 and a release window sometime in June. For now, though, the bigger story is the redesign itself. Sony seems to be modernizing the Xperia look.

Sony looks like it’s changing direction a bit with the next Xperia flagship, especially when it comes to zoom photography. Fresh leaks surrounding the upcoming Xperia 1 VIII suggest Sony is moving away from the variable telephoto system used on the Xperia 1 VII.

The details come from listings spotted on Amazon Germany and Amazon UK, reported by NotebookCheck. According to ITHome, the Xperia 1 VIII swaps the previous continuous optical zoom lens for a fixed 70mm telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.

On paper, that sounds like a downgrade. The Xperia 1 VII could smoothly shift between 85mm and 170mm focal lengths (roughly 3.5x-7.1x), something no phones offer as of early 2026. But Sony seems to be compensating in another area that arguably matters more for everyday use: sensor size.

A much larger telephoto sensor (rumored)

The new telephoto camera is said to use a much larger 48MP 1/1.56-inch sensor, replacing the older 12MP 1/3.5-inch unit. That’s a pretty big jump, and it should help with light capture, detail, and low-light performance. There’s a chance the trade-off could actually work in Sony’s favor.

While the extreme long-range zoom from the older model may be gone, most users could end up getting better-looking photos in the focal lengths they actually use more often. The main and ultra-wide cameras reportedly stay familiar, sticking to 24mm and 16mm equivalents.

Outside the camera system, benchmark listings show the Xperia 1 VIII (Sony XQ-GE54) running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip paired with 12GB RAM. Geekbench scores floating around online point to flagship-level performance.

There also seem to be a few design tweaks this time around, including what looks like a more squared-off camera module. At the same time, Sony is apparently keeping some of the things Xperia fans tend to care about, including the 3.5mm headphone jack and the tall cinematic-style display.

Nothing is official yet, but the overall direction is becoming clearer. Sony doesn’t seem interested in chasing the highest zoom numbers anymore. Interestingly, the image description on the page mentioned a person wearing white “1000X The Collexion” headphones, suggesting at least one lighter color option. There are also talks of a black version, so Sony might be going for a more premium, minimal look here.

What really stands out is the model number: WH-1000XX. That naming is a bit unusual, and it’s what’s fueling speculation that this could be a 10-year anniversary edition of the 1000X series. Considering how important that lineup has been for Sony, it wouldn’t be surprising if they’re planning something a bit more polished than usual.

There’s also a teaser line tied to the listing, “Master the art of listening,” which, yeah, sounds like typical marketing, but it does hint at some kind of upgrade beyond what the XM6 already offers. Could be better drivers, tuning tweaks, or even something new on the processing side, but nothing concrete yet.

In a notice published on its Japanese website, Sony said the move is due to a global shortage of semiconductors, specifically memory, which has made it difficult to meet demand.

Sony added that it does not have a timeline for when orders will resume. The company said it will monitor supply conditions and announce updates later. While some low-end SD cards may still be in production, most of its memory card lineup is affected. For now, existing retail stock may be the last available units for some time.

This situation points to a broader change happening in the semiconductor industry. Memory makers are now focusing more on higher-margin products like high-bandwidth memory and server-grade DRAM, which are widely used in AI data centers. As a result, there’s less supply available for consumer NAND flash and standard DRAM.

Removing that component simplifies the process and reduces the risk of accidental damage. For a product category often criticized for being difficult to repair, that’s a meaningful step.

Inside the earbuds

Internal photos reveal Bluetooth antenna contacts, touch sensor connectors, microphone openings, and a MEMS mic mounted directly on the board. There’s also a transparent plastic layer on top, a small design touch that visually separates this generation from earlier leaks.

The battery is listed as model Z55FA, rated at 3.85V. Multiple suppliers are mentioned, including Springpower, Highpower (TH), VDL, and Zhuhai ZeniPower Battery Co., Ltd., with signs pointing to ZeniPower as a primary source. Capacity isn’t disclosed in the FCC paperwork.

On the silicon side, the teardown confirms an updated system-in-package module labeled GSBR-005 (version 3-2), integrating an MT2833 Bluetooth chip. Although resin coating obscures some details, component sizing suggests the new QN3e noise-canceling chip is noticeably larger than the previous QN2e.

Sony’s XM series has long been considered among the best in the noise-canceling true wireless category. By improving internal design for easier servicing, without compromising premium hardware, Sony seems to be addressing one of the biggest long-term pain points in wireless earbuds: battery degradation.

Of course, real-world performance will ultimately decide how compelling the upgrade is. But on paper, the WF-1000XM6 look like a refinement in more ways than one. It’s already available for $329.99 on Sony’s US website.

Sony may be taking a harder look at the timeline for the PlayStation 6. Several industry reports suggest rising component costs could complicate an early launch. While the PS6 has often been mentioned as a 2027 release, that window now appears less certain. A delay into 2028 or even 2029 is being discussed in supply-chain circles.

Memory pricing is at the center of it. Data centers are absorbing large volumes of DRAM and high-bandwidth memory, and that has had knock-on effects for other hardware categories.

The PS6 is rumored to feature roughly 30GB of fast memory. If those reports are accurate, even modest price shifts could materially affect overall manufacturing costs. Some analysts had pointed to noticeable price increases through late 2025 and early 2026. Whether that trend continues is unclear, but the volatility alone makes planning difficult.

Sony typically prices its consoles aggressively at the start of a generation, even if profitability comes later through software and services. If memory costs stay elevated, Sony would face a familiar but uncomfortable choice: accept slimmer margins or push the retail price higher. A $1,000 console would be a tough sell in the mainstream market.

Extending the PS5 cycle

At the same time, there’s no immediate urgency. The PlayStation 5 has reportedly surpassed 75 million units sold, and usage levels remain strong. The PS5 Pro’s arrival in late 2024 already refreshed the lineup, giving Sony more flexibility. From a business perspective, extending the current generation slightly may not carry much downside, especially if major software releases continue to anchor engagement.

Sony’s console generations have never followed a strict formula anyway. The PS3 launched six years after the PS2, while the PS4-to-PS5 gap stretched to seven. An eight- or nine-year span wouldn’t be typical, but it wouldn’t be unprecedented either.

Of course, semiconductor markets can shift quickly. If supply improves or pricing stabilizes, timelines could move again. For now, though, high memory costs combined with a still-healthy PS5 ecosystem make a later PS6 launch feel entirely possible.

Early details about the Sony PS6 are starting to surface, and one of the more interesting claims involves its graphics architecture. According to AMD-focused leaker Kepler_L2 on the NeoGAF forums, Sony’s next console may not adopt the full RDNA 5 GPU design. Instead, it could use a hybrid approach, combining parts of RDNA 5 with elements from earlier RDNA generations. If accurate, that wouldn’t be unusual for Sony.

The original PS5 didn’t use a clean, full RDNA 2 implementation. It was closer to RDNA 1 with custom ray-tracing hardware layered in. Later, the PS5 Pro reportedly integrated newer RDNA 4 features while still maintaining a custom structure. Sony has historically worked closely with AMD to tailor architectures rather than simply adopting them wholesale.

Cost appears to be the main factor

Rumors suggest the PS6 could feature a Zen 6 CPU and around 30GB of memory, possibly GDDR7. That alone would push component costs higher than previous generations, especially if memory pricing remains volatile over the next few years.

A full RDNA 5 GPU, particularly one sized for high-end console performance, would add even more expense. By selectively implementing features instead of using the complete architecture, Sony may be trying to strike a balance between performance gains and retail pricing.

That strategy would align with how Sony has positioned past consoles: strong performance, but still within reach for mainstream buyers.

There are also reports that Microsoft’s next Xbox could move closer to a “PC-like” approach, potentially pushing into higher price territory. If that happens, Sony may choose to differentiate by keeping costs under control rather than chasing absolute top-end specs.

Of course, we’re still years away from launch. The PS6 is widely expected around 2028, and a lot can change between now and then — including GPU roadmaps, fabrication costs, and overall market conditions.

A hybrid RDNA 5 design doesn’t automatically mean weak performance. Custom console GPUs often include targeted optimizations that matter more for real-world gaming workloads than raw architectural purity.

Originally launched in May 2025, the WH-1000XM6 represents Sony’s latest premium offering, featuring the HD Noise Canceling Processor QN3, which is seven times faster than previous generations. The advanced active noise cancellation system employs twelve microphones working with an Adaptive NC Optimizer that continuously analyzes environmental conditions and wearing patterns to adjust noise reduction across different settings.

Sony redesigned the driver unit specifically for enhanced audio performance, collaborating with mastering engineers from Sterling Sound, Battery Studios, and Coast Mastering for precise tuning. The headphones support LDAC high-resolution audio and include Edge-AI with DSEE Extreme upscaling technology.

Design improvements include a vegan leather headband, soft stretchable earpads, and a reinstated foldable mechanism that enables a more compact carrying case with magnetic buckle closure. Control options combine a touch panel with tactile buttons and a dedicated mute function.

Feature highlights include Auto Ambient Sound mode for environmental awareness, Game EQ optimized for shooters, and Cinema 360 Reality Audio Upmix for immersive film experiences. Battery performance reaches 40 hours with ANC disabled.

The WH-1000XM6 utilizes Sony’s Integrated Processor V2, which powers the Adaptive Noise Canceling Optimizer to maintain consistent performance regardless of environmental changes or how the headphones sit on the user’s head.

Sony has launched the WF-1000XM6 wireless earbuds, claiming a 25 percent noise cancellation improvement over the WF-1000XM5, particularly in mid-to-high frequencies encountered in everyday settings.

The earbuds deploy Sony’s HD Noise Canceling Processor QN3e and Integrated Processor V2. Each earbud now houses four microphones instead of three, paired with an Adaptive Noise Canceling Optimizer that continuously analyzes external noise and fit conditions. The system compensates for sound leakage from imperfect ear tip seals. New Noise Isolation Earbud Tips come in four sizes, and the earbuds are 11 percent slimmer, conforming to inner ear anatomy. A ventilation structure reduces internal noise from movement and chewing.

Audio processing uses dual processors with enhanced DAC amplification and 32-bit support. The driver unit combines a soft edge for bass response with a rigid dome for high-frequency extension. The package includes Hi-Res Audio Wireless, DSEE Extreme upscaling, 360 Reality Audio, 10-band EQ via the Sound Connect app, head tracking, and Background Music Effect.
