The Vivo X500 series has been leaking in pieces for a while now, and the latest information from Digital Chat Station adds some specifics around the vanilla Vivo X500’s display, chipset, battery, and cameras.

According to DCS, the current engineering sample of the Vivo X500 sports a 6.59-inch mid-screen flat display, which lines up with earlier reports pegging that size to the standard model. 

More interesting is the claim that the X500 will apparently run on 3nm-based Dimensity 9500 (referred to as the DX5), rather than the upcoming Dimensity 9600.

It could be a deliberate choice by Vivo to make the X500 a slightly affordable option in a lineup where the Pro and Pro Max take the glory.

On the camera front, DCS says the engineering prototype features a 50MP main sensor with a 1/1.28-inch (approximately) footprint. There’s also a mid-sensor periscope telephoto lens on board. 

DCS notes that this could be the same 64MP periscope unit that’s in testing for the X500 Pro, though that’s still pending confirmation. 

Last but not least, the Vivo X500 engineering sample is reportedly testing with a 7,500mAh battery (give or take). That’s a massive cell for a phone with a sub-6.6-inch display, and it fits with earlier reports suggesting the entire X500 family would feature 7,000mAh-plus batteries. The X300 series tops at around 6,510mAh in the Pro model.

Where the X500 fits

Vivo is likely building a three-tier ladder with the X500 series. At the top sits the X500 Pro Max, rumored to feature a 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro, a 200MP periscope, and an 8,000mAh battery in a 6.85-inch 2K LTPO panel. 

The X500 Pro sits in the middle with a compact 6.37-inch form factor, Dimensity 9600, a 50MP LOFIC primary shooter, and a 7,000mAh-plus battery. And the standard X500 rounds things out with a bigger screen than the Pro, the same oversized main sensor, and a monstrous battery, all powered by a slightly less premium chip.

In today’s leak, DCS also cautions that the company expected to debut the new chip in September is unlikely to ship its device with the SM8975, also referred to as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, as a standard configuration. The reason cited is the extremely high cost of the 2nm chipset, which could significantly impact pricing.

Here, the tipster may be suggesting that Xiaomi will not launch a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro-powered phone in September. Previous leaks have claimed that this chip is designed for ultra-premium devices and is likely to power the Xiaomi 18 Ultra, which may debut by the end of this year in China.

According to prominent tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Vivo has decided to make 2K resolution standard across its flagship phones. The leaker says the company is “going all in on 2K resolution.” As a result, Vivo’s upcoming flagships will likely all have 2K flat screens.

The possibility extends to the iQOO 16 as well, as it is also a flagship device from the company’s sub-brand.

Another well-known leaker, Panda is Bald, has echoed the same claim, lending some additional weight to the rumor. They also expand the discussion to other manufacturers’ upcoming devices.

According to the tipster, Oppo’s Find X10 series will feature a 200-megapixel camera, while Honor is reportedly planning to equip its mid-range phones with enormous 10,000mAh batteries. 

Huawei, meanwhile, is said to be exploring new foldable screen designs, and Xiaomi’s upcoming 18 series is reportedly focusing on advancements in camera technology.

All the flagship phones are expected to use a new mobile processor based on the 2nm process. Xiaomi is likely to stick with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips, while both Vivo and Oppo are expected to use MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9600.

A previous report suggests that at least one of those two brands will launch its flagship early in September. MediaTek is also rumored to unveil the Dimensity 9600 earlier than usual, which could allow manufacturers to ship devices powered by the chip sooner.

Vivo X400 series to be skipped

As can be seen above, tipster Digital Chat Station has claimed that the next generation after the X300 will be called the X500. So, this means that the next-generation lineup may possibly include the Vivo X500, X500 Pro, and X500 Ultra as the successors to the current generation’s Vivo X300, X300 Pro, and X300 Ultra.

Likely, the Vivo X500 and X500 Pro will debut in September or October 2026. Early speculations suggest that these devices will be the first to feature the Dimensity 9600, which is said to be manufactured through TSMC’s 2nm process, making it MediaTek’s first-ever 2nm mobile chip.

It is reported that TSMC’s enhanced 2nm process technology has a 1.2 times higher logic density than the existing N3E process, a performance improvement of up to 18 percent at the same power consumption, and a power consumption reduction of about 36 percent at the same speed.

At present, it is too early to talk about the X500 series as the company has several new phones lined up for launch in China in the coming months. After the S50 and S50 Pro Mini, expected by this month’s end, the company is expected to unveil the Vivo X300s and X300 Ultra in the first half of 2026. While the X300s will be an updated version of the Vivo X200, the Ultra edition is expected to debut as the world’s first phone with dual 200-megapixel cameras.
