Following the popularity of Apple’s MagSafe, Realme announced MagDart, its own take on magnetic wireless charging technology. Now, OPPO seems to be next to jump on the train according to a trademark application filing.

The MagVOOC trademark application was spotted by Twitter user Paras Guglani (via MySmartPrice). The listing doesn’t reveal much save for the date of application which is August 11, 2021, and the applicant which is OPPO Guangdong Mobile Communications Co. Ltd.

From the trademark name which is a portmanteau of magnetic and VOOC, OPPO’s charging technology, we can safely presume that this is OPPO’s own magnetic wireless charging technology.

We don’t know if OPPO plans to launch any phone that supports magnetic wireless charging anytime soon. Wireless charging is not a popular feature among OPPO devices. The Find X3 and Find X3 Pro are the only OPPO phones announced this year that have support for wireless charging. So if we are going to see magnetic wireless charging on an OPPO phone, it will most likely be next year’s Find X phones.

Over the past few years, OPPO has taken the lead in the industry with its VOOC fast charging technology. Today marks an important achievement for the company. OPPO has officially announced 125W Flash Charging technology for its smartphones, evolved from its 65W SuperVOOC technology announced last year. This makes it the world’s fastest wired charging technology in the industry. But the company doesn’t stop here, it has also announced the World’s Fastest Wireless Charging technology – the 65W AirVOOC.

125W Flash Charge comes with double-6C cells

OPPO’s new flash charging technology can charge a 4000mAh battery up to 41% in just 5 minutes and 100% in 20 minutes!

The 125W flash charging technology is built on the existing 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 charging protocol. The VOOC charging protocol has always focused on increasing the current (instead of the voltage) to increase the total wattage. The 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 supported up to 10V / 6.5A. But now, with the 125W Flash Charge technology, OPPO has doubled the voltage with the current remaining more or less the same.

In order to achieve an incredible 125W, the OPPO Flash Charge increases the voltage to 20V while the maximum current drops a little to 6.25A. This is further made possible by significantly improving power density properties. Instead of two 3C cells found on the SuperVOOC 2.0 tech, the new Flash Charge protocol utilizes two 6C cells. This marks a breakthrough in the battery ratio (this ratio is defined as the charge and discharge ratio of the cell). The new technology further comes with industry-leading multiple battery tab structures, three parallel charge pumps, and an integrated MCU (Microcontroller unit) for improving charging efficiency.

The 125W flash charge technology is compatible with the previous versions like SuperVOOC and VOOC protocols. It even supports mainstream charging technologies like 65W PD (Power Delivery) and 125W PPS (Programmable Power Supply).

Given the extremely high wattage being thrust into the smartphone, OPPO has also worked on its safety protection features by adding 10 more temperature sensors to monitor the charging status. Other safety measures include fuse overvoltage protection, Type-C to Type-C wire as well as 128-bit high-strength encryption algorithm.

65W AirVOOC Wireless Charging makes Wired Charging Obsolete

In a surprise announcement, OPPO also announced the world’s fastest wireless charging technology. The new wireless charging protocol can fully charge a 4000mAh battery in just 30 minutes! This makes it faster than most current wired charging solutions in the market and has the potential to make wired charging obsolete.

In fact, in a graph, OPPO revealed that the 65W AirVOOC charges a phone in the same time as its 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 wired charging technology.

The OPPO AirVOOC 65W wireless charging technology uses a self-developed isolated charging pump technology and parallel dual-coil design to improve the wireless charging efficiency. It has also reduced the interference in the charging frequency and comes with five-fold safety protection measures in addition to the standard foreign object detection feature. Like its 40W wireless charging tech, the 65W AirVOOC charging is compatible with the Qi standard.

OPPO also revealed a conceptual wireless charger based on its 65W AirVOOC wireless flash charging technology. The charger comes with a sculpted-glass body which is made of moldless rapid prototyping technology. OPPO reveals that this is the first application of this type of technology in the consumer electronics market.

At the bottom of the charger, there’s a semiconductor cooler for better heat management. This allows the temperature of the phone to be 2°C lower than using a traditional fan for heat dissipation.

Unfortunately, we have no word on the release date or pricing of this 65W AirVOOC wireless charger. We also don’t know when we’ll see a smartphone with this 125W Flash Charge technology.

Nevertheless, this is a big leap in smartphone charging technology. And it’s becoming evident that charging a smartphone won’t be a pain point for users in the near future.

Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has today announced that it has signed a license agreement with eight companies, including product and chipset manufacturers, to develop, manufacture and sell devices with support for VOOC Flash Charging technology.

Prior to this, in November last year, the company had entered into a similar license agreement with around six companies. The addition of eight more companies will help the company to further expand the footprints of VOOC technology.

The eight companies which entered into a license agreement with Oppo for the VOOC tech includes Anke Innovation Technology Co., Ltd., Angbao Electronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., Hangzhou Shilan Microelectronics Co., Ltd., Lilinda Technology Group Co., Ltd., Ningbo Bull Digital Technology Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Renqing Excellence Investment Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Shishang Exhibition Technology Co., Ltd. and Core Sea Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd.

Commenting on this development, Feng Ying, Director of IP at Oppo, said: “VOOC flash charging technology fully demonstrates OPPO’s technological leadership in the field of fast charging, greatly enhancing the user’s charging experience. We are very pleased to be able to promote the sustainable development of VOOC’s flash-filled ecology through our external licensing. Today, OPPO VOOC flash has 14 excellent industry chain partners. In the future, we will also open the license to more enterprises, vOOC flash-charge technology plus accessories, chips and other areas of development.”

There are three versions of this flash charging technology — VOOC, VOOC Mini, and Super VOOC. The company has also developed a new 15W Wireless Flash Charging technology. Last year, Oppo had revealed that more than 100 million devices worldwide are using the company’s VOOC flash charging technology.

VOOC Flash Charge uses a low-voltage and high-current charging solution and claims to provide 2 hours of talk time when the phone is charged for only 5 minutes. VOOC Mini, on the other hand, has been optimized to have smaller adaptors. SuperVOOC, which is used in the company’s flagship devices, has a maximum charging power of around 50W, charging the phone in just 35 minutes.

VOOC Flash Charging Power Bank

The VOOC Flash Charging Power Bank is the first in the new lineup of gadgets. As the name implies, it supports two-way VOOC flash charging 3.0, that is 5V4A=20W charging power. It comes with a pretty decent battery capacity of 10000mAh, with 15 heavy security protection. It costs 279 yuan, which is about $41.

SuperVOOC Super Flash Charging Power Bank

As you’d expect from the name, the SuperVOOC Super Flash Charging Power Bank is a better version of the last product, and also a mouthful to say. It’s pretty much exactly the same for the most part, with this one having two way SuperVOOC charging instead. This means it charges at 50w speed instead. This one costs 379 yuan, about $55.

10000mAh Power Bank

This one’s decidedly vanilla after the last two power banks we saw. Unlike the other two, it’s essentially just a normal power bank with a capacity of 10000mAh. No fancy fast charging technology here. The price thankfully reflects this, as it comes in at a mere 149 yuan, or about $22.

SuperVOOC Super Flash Car Charger

Like the SuperVOOC Super Flash Charging Power Bank, this one’s basically a car charger with SuperVOOC support. It supports fast charging of up to 50w, and it’ll set you back at 199 yuan, or about $29. All four of these new Oppo power banks and car charger will go on sale both online and offline beginning on the 1st of June.

OPPO will announce a new phone on May 23. The device which is called the OPPO K3 will have a pop-up selfie camera with a notch-less display and a Snapdragon 710 SoC. A new report says OPPO will also announce new VOOC accessories alongside the phone.

The info was revealed by the official OPPO Accessories Weibo page. The Chinese manufacturer will announce three new VOOC accessories and a SuperVOOC car charger. We are surprised about the latter since it launched a SuperVOOC car charger back in January. The other VOOC accessories are said to be power banks and one might even be Pikachu-branded just like the SuperVOOC one from last year. However, these power banks may support the new VOOC 3.0 fast charging technology.

It has also been reported that the OPPO K3 will also support VOOC 3.0 fast charging technology.

OPPO’s SuperVOOC fast charging technology is still the fastest charging technology available on a commercial device. However, it is not the fastest. Huawei’s Mate X supports 55W fast-charging but since it is yet to go on sale, OPPO is still holding on to the crown. Xiaomi also announced its 100W fast charging technology back in March but it is yet to appear in any of its devices.

Fast charging has quickly become one of the must-have features on a smartphone. Basically, fast charging increases the current sent to the battery to fill up its capacity or get charged quicker.

Different companies have adopted different standards for fast charging. While some companies have their own proprietary technology for fast charging that can be used with specific cables and chargers, some use universal standard.

Oppo, the Chinese smartphone brand has its own proprietary fast charging technology named VOOC Flash Charge. There are three versions of the same — VOOC, VOOC Mini, and Super VOOC. Further, Oppo has also announced that it has developed a new 15W Wireless Flash Charging. Now, the company has revealed that more than 100 million devices worldwide are using the company’s VOOC flash charging technology.

After seeing the revolutionary 5X camera technology from OPPO yesterday, today another Chinese brand Meizu has taken the center stage at MWC 2017 in Barcelona with its amazing Super mCharge fast charging technology. Meizu already has a fast charging technology in its kitty but this latest Meizu Super mCharge delivers fast charging at supersonic speed.

The Meizu Super mCharge uses a new charge pump technology with a conversion efficiency of up to 98% in order to solve the reduction in efficiency caused by charging heat lags. Safety is also taken care of as the new technology also reduces the charge when the phone heats up too much. The Super mCharge comes with a power rating of 55W (11V, 5A), utilizing both high voltage and high current.

The technology was tested with a 3000mAh battery and the result is stunning. In just 5 minutes the battery had reached 30% from zero and that figure doubled to 60% in 10 minutes. As the percentage of charge increased, the rate slightly reduces but is still ferocious. In 15 minutes, the battery charge had gotten to 85% and in 19 minutes and 12 seconds, the phone was 100% charged. Meizu claims the Super mCharge is 3 times faster than the ordinary fast charge. It is also said to be faster than the Quick Charge 3.0 and VOOC fast charge technology.

The 3,000mAh battery, though, isn’t just any battery but Meizu’s new high-performance battery which can even withstand up to 4 times the current delivered by the Super mCharge. The battery is said to be manufactured using a new lithium-based material which is durable. Meizu claims that even after 800 cycles of charging, the battery still has more than 80% of its capacity, thus can last up to two years of normal usage.

Meizu did not disclose when we should expect to see the Super mCharge inside its smartphones but it should be expected with the next Meizu flagship smartphone.

Last month, OPPO unveiled the OPPO R9 and R9 Plus smartphones in China. Both were pretty decent smartphones with powerful specs and premium design. Now, the company has launched the OPPO F1 Plus in India, which is basically the global version of the OPPO R9. So, despite the “Plus” tag line, this is the rebranded R9 and not the R9 Plus.

The OPPO F1 Plus is primarily a camera-centric smartphone with a powerful 16MP front facing camera. The phone is ideal for selfies, with such a powerful shooter up front, thanks to f/2.0 aperture and 78.1 degrees wide angle lens. At the back, the phone features a 13MP camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF and LED flash. It supports 4K video shooting as well.

The F1 Plus comes with a physical home button with a fingerprint sensor. The sensor can unlock the device in just 0.2 seconds. As for the display, the phone sports a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED panel with 1.6mm ultra-narrow bezels.

Under the hood, the OPPO F1 Plus comes with the Helio P10 MT6755 octa-core chip clocked at 2GHz. For memory, the phone features 4GB of RAM and 32GB/ 64GB internal storage. This is further expandable up to 128GB via MicroSD (Hybrid). Finally, there’s a 2850mAh battery with the company’s VOOC flash charge.

The OPPO F1 Plus comes in Gold and Rose Gold colors and is priced at Rs. 26,990 which comes to around $400. The phone will go on sale around mid-April in the country.

On October 29, Chinese cellphone manufacturer OPPO held a launch event in Beijing for its fall releases: The OPPO N3 and R5 which is probably the slimmest cellphone in the world, along with other products.

VOOC Rapid Charger

        The rapid charger was first used in the OPPO Find 7. As the size of the screens of cellphones increase, so does the amount of power consumed. Cellphone battery developers could no longer keep up with the increasing power consumption rate. Rapid chargers have greatly helped solve the problem. In the launch, OPPO showed the upgrades they made to the batteries of their products as well as the chargers. They also showed that their new products will use VOOC.

Pure Image 2.0

 OPPO’s cellphones will also use the Pure Image 2.0 image processor which was first used in the OPPO Find 7.

OPPO N3’s motorized rotating camera 

The main selling points for the OPPO N1 were its big screen and rotating camera. This time, OPPO added a small motor to the N3’s rotating camera allowing it to follow objects as they move.

Fingerprint encryption 

The OPPO N3 comes with a fingerprint reader at the back which can be used to do things such as open the camera and the photo album.

OPPO R5 breaks the record for thinnest cellphone in the world

        The Gionee S5.1 is no longer the slimmest cellphone around. Meet the OPPO R5 which has a thickness of only 4.85mm. It also uses a 1080p display screen (OLED) and IMX 214 camera.

It is best to use a Micro USB if you want to use earphones as this phone may be too thin for a 3.5mm earphone jack.

Prices 

The OPPO N3 costs 3999 RMB (654.21 USD) while the R5 costs 2999 (490.62 USD). They may look expensive but take note that OPPO will send them using traditional channels, not online stores, so do not be surprised that they are so expensive.
