Xiaomi Auto is doing pretty well regarding deliveries for their SU7 electric SUV. After exceeding 10,000 units delivered in June, they’re aiming to maintain that momentum throughout July. This is a pretty decent jump from their previous months, with only 8,630 units delivered in May and 7,058 in April.

The company is planning to deliver a total of 100,000 EVs throughout 2024.

This production ramp-up aligns with Xiaomi’s earlier announcement of starting double-shift production in June to guarantee a monthly delivery target of 10,000 units. Their long-term goal for 2024 is ambitious, aiming to deliver a total of 100,000 SU7s, with a stretch target of 120,000 units. While these numbers are not that high, they are still pretty good for the SU7, which is the company’s first foray into EVs – a relatively young market.

To help manage customer wait times, Xiaomi Auto launched a “Lock Order and Wait for User Care” campaign on June 28th. This program offers gifts to users who have been waiting for their SU7 for more than 3 months as compensation of sorts.

After years of rumors and leaks, Xiaomi has finally confirmed that they are holding a press conference on December 28 where they will unveil the Xiaomi EV technology. The announcement came via official channels on Weibo and the company’s CEO and founder, Lei Jun, on X.com (formerly Twitter.com). The announcement came just before the end of the year 2023, and the next year would be all about Xiaomi’s EV. The poster unveils a car chassis with “STRIDE” text over the top.

Xiaomi is currently known as the Chinese smartphone maker, and soon it will be replaced as the Chinese EV maker as the official announcement about the Xiaomi EV Technology Launch is finally here. Following some previous interviews with Lei Jun, it is clear that the company aims to compete against Tesla.

We expect Xiaomi to unveil car engine details, shed some light on AI driving features, and details about the color variants of three different models.

Xiaomi is heading into the EV market with over years of dedicated work with over 3,400 engineers and a $1.4 billion investment. The company is stepping into a highly competitive market where players like Tesla and China’s home-grown automakers are already doing excellent. It would not be easy to grab a good market share in a fiercely competitive market.

Xiaomi’s CEO is confident in the new venture, and they want to repeat their success in the smartphone industry as a leading giant. Recently, the unveiled Xiaomi 14 confirmed Xiaomi’s commitment to innovation and evolution in the tech space. We expect such advancements in the EV segment over the coming few years.

Xiaomi EV Leaks and Rumors

There have been plenty of rumors and leaks about the design, and specifications of Xiaomi’s first EV. A recent photo leak of Xiaomi’s car revealed the presence of a central control display and a three-spoke steering wheel. The car could become available to the public by next year.

Further, the car measures 4997/1963/1455 mm with a 3000mm wheelbase for spacious interiors. It could come in two-wheel options of 19″ and 20″, with type specifications of 245/45 R19 and 245/40 R20. There will be LiDAR technology for autonomous and advanced windshields.
Xiaomi is gearing up for the electric vehicle (EV) landscape with its highly anticipated model, the SU7. Recently, the first images of the SU7 emerged through a Chinese government regulatory agency, generating excitement ahead of its scheduled public debut in the first half of 2024.

In a strategic move, Xiaomi has chosen not to oversee the direct production of the EV. Instead, this responsibility has been entrusted to Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. (BAIC), a prominent government-owned Chinese car manufacturer. This collaboration, confirming earlier speculations, positions BAIC as the key manufacturing partner for Xiaomi’s foray into the competitive field of electric vehicles.

Lu Weibing, partner and president of Xiaomi Group, provided insights into the progress of Xiaomi Auto, revealing that it has surpassed expectations. The official release, slated for the first half of the coming year, is eagerly anticipated by both tech enthusiasts and observers within the automotive industry.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology unveiled the images of Xiaomi’s upcoming vehicle, the SU7. This sedan, speculated to feature coupe-like characteristics, showcases a distinctive design with a closed grille and sharp headlight modules at the front. The rear of the car is adorned with the iconic “Xiaomi” logo at the bottom left of the tail, accompanied by eye-catching continuous taillights. The declaration information specifies that the vehicle was submitted by Beijing Automotive Group Off-road Vehicle Co., Ltd.

Xiaomi’s venture into the automotive market aligns with the company’s broader strategy to establish itself as a key player across various technological domains. This strategic move underscores Xiaomi’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation and diversifying its product offerings.

As Xiaomi Auto prepares for its official launch, the tech world eagerly anticipates the introduction of a new player in the electric vehicle landscape. The SU7, with its unique design and strategic manufacturing partnership, is set to contribute to the rapidly evolving EV market.

In a recent announcement, Xiaomi has made significant executive changes, including adjustments to high-level positions. Notably, Huang Zhenyu, previously the vice president of the automotive department, has assumed the additional role of general manager of the supply chain department within the same division. Zhenyu will directly report to Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi’s automotive department.

Xiaomi has made a noteworthy recruitment move by attracting senior executive Huang Zhenyu from the auto parts industry to join their ranks. Zhenyu, previously holding the position of Vice President in the China region at Magna, a prominent global supplier, brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise in the automotive sector.

As a result of this development, Zhenyu has assumed responsibility for the supply chain business at Xiaomi, while Li Xiaoshuang, Vice President of Xiaomi’s Automotive Division, has transitioned to focus on market operations. Additionally, Xiaoshuang has taken on the role of General Manager in the Auto Marketing Department, directly reporting to Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi’s Automotive Division.

In a notable career transition, Li Xiaoshuang, previously the general manager of Xiaomi Group’s home appliances department, has taken on a significant role within Xiaomi’s automotive division. With extensive experience within the company, Xiaoshuang is regarded as a seasoned veteran of Xiaomi

Notably, recent reports suggested that Wen Fei, an executive from Great Wall Motors, was recruited by CEO Lei Jun to lead the marketing department. However, it appears that the decision has since been reversed, with the marketing responsibilities entrusted to the core Xiaomi team.

Currently, Xiaomi’s automotive endeavors are progressing smoothly, and the company is on track to launch its first car next year.

Xiaomi founder and CEO, Lei Jun, recently revealed during that the company’s progress with its first ever electric vehicle has been exceeded expectations and that its mass production stage is not too far away.

The senior executive of the Chinese tech giant stated that the winter tests were also completely successful and he expects the car to launch sometime next year. Furthermore, he also revealed that he believes that mass production of the car can be achieved by the first half of next year. Lei Jun added that he spends half of his time working on the brand’s automobile project. As of 2022, Xiaomi has already invested over 3 billion Yuan (roughly 433 million US Dollars) into its Auto unit, with a team consisting of more than 2,300 individuals for the research and development into automobiles.

The company has built its own automobile base for car manufacturing in Yizhuang, Beijing, which also includes sales headquarters and research and development center. The company also plans to build a complete vehicle factory for the upcoming EVs that will be capable of producing around 300,000 vehicles in two phases. The first car model is expected to roll off the assembly line and achieve mass production by 2024.

Based on all the previous leaks, the Xiaomi Modena EV is expected to be a medium sized sedan that features a sporty design. While finer details regarding the upcoming car is still at large, reports have claimed that the vehicle could be priced around the 350,000 Yuan mark. This is all the information we have as of right, so stick around for more updates regarding this matter.

Xiaomi‘s car making unit, Xiaomi Auto, has apparently had one of its senior officials resign recently. The auto unit’s marketing head has just resigned ahead of the launch of the company’s first ever car model. So here are all the details.

For those unaware, the Head of Marketing at Xiaomi Auto, Zhou Ying has recently resigned from the Chinese tech giant’s car making subsidiary. The marketing executive has resigned mere 7 months after joining the company’s car manufacturing team. Following the official establishment of Xiaomi Auto, the company had begun a series of hiring bringing in experts on board. One of the new leading positions was filled with Zhou Ying, who was also previously the deputy general managed of SAIC-GM-Wuling Sales Company.

As per an official statement from Xiaomi, Zhou Ying has resigned from this position due to personal and family reasons. Before he left the company, he worked as the marketing head of Xiaomi Auto and reported directly to the Founder and CEO of the brand, Lei Jun. This isn’t surprising since we had previously reported on Lei Jun directly working on the Auto brand and also being spotted personally taking the Xiaomi Modena EV out for test drives.

This first ever electric car is believed to feature a sporty sedan look and its design had been recently hinted at. The official was also spotted testing the car in the snow for extreme weather scenarios. It is unclear how Zhou Ying’s departure will affect the progress of the company’s car or its marketing efforts. But stick around for more updates regarding this matter.

While it is already known and officially confirmed that Xiaomi is working on its first ever electric vehicle, finer details like its design and specs are still unknown. But now, a new report has shared leaked images of the upcoming EV model’s design sketches, which revealed some of its design elements. So let’s have a look.

Just recently, we had also reported on the company’s CEO and Founder Lei Jun personally conducting a winter snow test of this car. This showcased that the car is quite ahead in terms of development and is deep into the testing phase as well. Now, the first look of the EV also reveals that the Chinese tech giant is also partnering up with known automobile maker BAIC. For those unaware, the company had established Xiaomi Automobile back in 2021 and officially revealed its plans for an EV model.

Back in July 2022, the first ever prototype was tested, which was based on the BYD Han EV, and the latest sighting was over a snow test. The Xiaomi Car is believed to be called the Modena and its design sketches were just recently leaked. This offers us a look at both the front and rear bumpers. On the front, we can see that the car adopts a sporty look with what appears to be small side air vents and an air intake in the middle.

The front also hosues a pair of oval shaped headlights. Meanwhile, the rear bumpers also feature a similar side air vent imitations. Furthermore, the design is rather simple and aerodynamic. There is no other notable details at the back. While it was previously believed that Xiaomi and BYD were closely working on this project, a list of suppliers was also leaked which showcased BAIC as one of the company’s suppliers that will build one of the body parts.

The company will apparently supply the likes of both NIO and even Xiaomi Auto.

The news arrives from several sources (Via 36Kr) in China. Although, all three of the companies have yet to comment on the matter as of right now. One source added that “the designated cooperation between NIO and FinDreams Battery had been finalized before the Spring Festival, using BYD’s ferrous lithium phosphate battery.” Furthermore, it was also revealed that in the second half of last year, various NIO employees had visited BYD company location in Shenzhen often.

On the other hand, Xiaomi Auto is a relatively new automobile manufacturing brand. It has also signed a partnership deal with FinDreams Battery. As per the report, its first EV will have two sets of configurations. The low end model arrives with a voltage platform of 400V BYD blade batteries while the high end model will come with a voltage platform of 800V. The top end model might also use products from a leading Chinese battery maker, CATL. Although, the details for this deal is currently unknown.

Previously, CATL was also the exclusive supplier of power batteries for NIO. However, the company’s head, Li Bin had publicly stated that the battery had become a limiting factor for its production capacity. Notably, BYD is also a known automobile brand in China, but it even produces its own power batteries as well. Thus, it has been pushing in promoting new energy vehicles in the local market.
