Elon Musk is Now Suing OpenAI, Asks Court to Force OpenAI to Make its Technology Public

Elon Musk, the man known for electric cars and SpaceX amongst other things, has sued OpenAI, an artificial intelligence (AI) research lab he helped create. He accuses the company of abandoning its original goal of creating beneficial, non-profit AI for everyone. OpenAI, famous for its ChatGPT language model, is now backed by Microsoft, raising concerns in Musk’s eyes. He claims the company, initially meant to be open and non-profit, is now focused on making money for its investors.

OpenAI and Microsoft have yet to release a statement to the public

The lawsuit, filed in San Francisco, asks the court to force OpenAI to:

  • Make its research and technology public. This would allow anyone to learn and build upon OpenAI’s work, fostering broader AI development.
  • Prevent using its most advanced AI model, GPT-4, for financial gain. This includes both Microsoft and individuals associated with OpenAI.
Elon-Musk

OpenAI and Microsoft have yet to comment on the lawsuit.

Musk has long expressed concerns about the potential dangers of AI, calling for regulations. He left OpenAI’s board in 2018 and has been critical of Microsoft’s involvement. He believes the tech giant has undue influence, if not outright control, over OpenAI. This legal battle adds another layer to the complex world of AI development. While the outcome is uncertain, it raises important questions about the ethics, purpose, and control of this powerful technology.

Meanwhile, Musk is pursuing his own AI venture, xAI. This startup aims to create “maximum truth-seeking AI” and recently launched its ChatGPT competitor, Grok, which also leaked the actual recipe for a drug when prompted to do so.

Windows Insiders can Now Use High-Quality Smartphone Cameras as Webcams on Windows 11

Windows Insiders have even more reason to rejoice now! Microsoft is rolling out a feature that lets users transform their Android phone or tablet into a webcam for any video application on a Windows 11 PC. We previously talked about the speculation that this feature might be on its way. This means users can now ditch bulky webcams and enjoy the high quality of a phone’s camera on their computer, all wirelessly and with added flexibility.

Using smartphones also lets users switch between front and back cameras as needed

Imagine using your phone’s camera for video calls, conferences, or even streaming, with the freedom to switch between the front and back cameras for the perfect shot. Need a quick break during a call? Simply pause the video stream from your PC and resume when you’re ready. Plus, you can even leverage the special effects offered by your phone’s camera, adding a touch of fun to your video interactions.

Windows 11

To get started, ensure your Android phone or tablet runs Android 9.0 or later and has the Link to Windows app version 1.24012 or higher installed. Connecting your phone as a webcam is easy: head to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mobile devices, choose “Manage devices” and grant your PC access to your phone. Your PC will then receive a necessary update from the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft is also encouraging users to share their feedback! Head over to the Feedback Hub (WIN + F) and share them under Devices and Drivers > Linked devices. Although there are third-party apps such as DroidCam that achieve the same end result (and have been around for years now), getting this feature integrated into Windows is a game-changer when it comes to convenience and speed. Get ready to experience the quality of using your phone’s camera for all your video needs on Windows 11!

HDMI Forum rejects AMD’s Linux driver support for HDMI 2.1

AMD‘s recent attempt to enhance its open-source Linux graphics driver (AMDGPU) with HDMI 2.1 features has hit a roadblock. After months of internal development to support key capabilities like 4K@120Hz and 5K@240Hz, the HDMI Forum rejected AMD’s proposal.

The rejection prevents Linux users of newer AMD Radeon graphics cards from taking full advantage of HDMI 2.1-equipped displays.

AMD expressed disappointment with the Forum’s decision, stating that an open-source HDMI 2.1 implementation would not be possible without contravening HDMI Forum requirements.

The Forum cited legal and compliance concerns surrounding the open-source distribution of the HDMI 2.1 specification.

AMD HDMI 2.1 Linux

This setback highlights the complexities faced by open-source HDMI developers following the HDMI Forum’s decision to restrict its specifications in 2021.

As a result, the latest HDMI features are likely to remain unavailable within open-source drivers. AMD recommends Linux users who want features like high-refresh-rate 4K gaming to switch to DisplayPort connections instead.

The situation remains unchanged for Windows users with AMD graphics, as they retain full HDMI 2.1 functionality. This highlights a discrepancy in the open-source development environment.

The rebuff also underscores potential tensions within the AMD – HDMI Forum relationship.  AMD had likely hoped that pioneering open-source HDMI 2.1 drivers would enhance their standing within the open-source community.

Whether Linux users with AMD graphics will ever be able to fully leverage next-gen HDMI 2.1 displays remains uncertain. Currently, both AMD and the HDMI Forum appear deeply invested in their respective positions, leaving consumers with limited options.

Samsung launched the Galaxy A05 in India in November last year. Now, the South Korean brand has slashed the price of the device in the country making it cheaper. The new pricing is applicable on both RAM and storage configurations. It is also reflected on the company’s official website.

Samsung Galaxy A05 price in India slashed

Samsung Galaxy A05 India

The Samsung Galaxy A05 is offered in 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB RAM and storage configurations. At launch, these were priced at Rs 9,999 and Rs 12,999. Now, the base variant has got a price cut of Rs 1,300 making it available for Rs 8,699. On the other hand, the 6GB + 128GB’s price has been slashed by Rs 2,000 and now costs Rs 10,999. This makes it a more lucrative option compared to the base model after the revised pricing.

Interested customers can purchase the Samsung Galaxy A05 at a revised price from Samsung’s official website and Croma. It comes in Light Green, Black, and Silver colors.

The Samsung Galaxy A05 has a 6.7-inch HD+ display with an Infinity-U notch that houses an 8MP front-facing selfie snapper. On the rear, there is a 50MP main sensor paired with a 2MP depth lens. Apple’s Strategy Backfires as Android Users Choose Older, Cheaper iPhones

The competition in the smartphone market is increasing day by day. Brands such as Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and many others are fiercely competing to sell more phones than their rivals and become market leaders. However, this competition is just one layer. Above all this chaos, Apple and Google are battling for the ultimate mobile operating system. So, who is leading in this race? A recent study provided us with information about the behaviors of iOS and Android users. Here are the details…

Android Users Favor Older, Cheaper iPhones When Switching

As we all know, changing habits can be quite challenging. Undoubtedly, after using Android or iOS for many years, switching to the other can be even more difficult. Nevertheless, some users are brave enough to try new things. Consumer Intelligence Research Partners LLC has revealed the habits of these users. For example, in the last five years, the percentage of users switching from Android to iOS has varied between 10-15%. The rates of Android users switching to iOS vary by years as follows:

  • 2019-13%
  • 2020-11%
  • 2021-11%
  • 2022-15%
  • 2023-13%

What’s more interesting is the preferences of users switching. Apple releases iPhone models with more powerful processors every year. However, in the last few years, this performance is already beyond necessity. This makes older iPhones a much more preferable option. On the other hand, price-performance-focused Android users prefer older iPhones over expensive models when making the switch.

In 2023 29% opted for the iPhone SE 3, 12, or 13/13 mini, compared to only 21% of existing iPhone users upgrading to those models. However, a majority of Android switchers (51%) still chose the newer iPhone 14 series. This suggests that while price is a factor for those coming from Android, many are willing to invest in Apple’s latest technology.

The folks at CNET got a hands-on experience of the Galaxy Ring at MWC. The smallest size of the wearable device is said to be 2.3 grams whereas the largest option tips the scales at 2.9 grams. This is significantly lighter when compared to Oura ring which weighs between four to six grams.

Samsung says that the smallest prototype ring has a battery capacity of 14.5mAh. It goes up incrementally with the larger models said to be powered by a 21.5mAh cell. Previously, the South Korean brand confirmed that the Galaxy Ring will be able to deliver up to 9 days of battery life.

Lastly, Samsung VP and Head of Digital Health team Hon Park revealed that users can wear the Galaxy Ring and Galaxy Watch together for even better results. Samsung Galaxy M15 5G renders reveal familiar design, three color options

Samsung is expanding its popular M series of smartphones, with the Galaxy M15 expected in the coming months. Recently, leaked renders of the device have surfaced online, courtesy of reliable tipster Evan Blass. The renders offer us a sneak peek at the phone’s design and available color options.

The Galaxy M15 bears a resemblance to its predecessors in terms of design. The device has three camera rings on the rear and rounded edges for a comfortable grip.

On the front, it features a full-screen display with a small waterdrop notch and a noticeable chin. The renders shared by the tipster also showcase the phone in three color variants: Silver, Berry Blue, and Smoky Teal.

While the leaked renders don’t disclose much else about the upcoming M-series smartphone, it has been making appearances on certification sites for some time now.

According to these databases, the Galaxy M15 is expected to pack a hefty 6000mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging. It will run on Android 14 out of the box and offer compatibility with both 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi networks.

Furthermore, rumors suggest that the Galaxy M15 5G might be a rebranded version of the Galaxy A15 5G, albeit with minor differences. Thus, the smartphone might feature a Dimensity 6100 Plus chipset and boast a 6.5-inch AMOLED display.

Apple’s 2024 iPad Pro may get a thinner design, reveals CAD renders

Apple is rumored to launch updated iPad Pro models as soon as next month, with the most significant change being the introduction of OLED displays for both the 11-inch and 13-inch models. If these rumors hold true, it would be the first time Apple will OLED technology into its iPad lineup.

Switching to OLED displays brings several advantages. OLED panels are notably thinner compared to LCD or mini-LED screens, allowing for slimmer device profiles.

Recently leaked CAD drawings and rumored dimensions of the upcoming tablets support this. The design of the tablets appears to be the same as their predecessors, with the rear camera island positioned in the upper left corner and speakers and USB-C port located at the bottom of the device.

However, the latest rumored dimensions for the upcoming 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models suggest slimmer tablets than their predecessors. Here are the rumored dimensions of the current and upcoming models:

  • Current 11-inch ‌iPad Pro‌: 247.6mm x 178.5mm x 5.9 mm
  • Upcoming 11-inch ‌iPad Pro‌: 249.7mm x 177.5mm x 5.1mm
  • Current 12.9-inch ‌iPad Pro‌: 280.6mm x 214.9mm x 6.4mm
  • Upcoming 13-inch ‌iPad Pro‌: ~281.5mm x 215.5mm x 5.0mm

One noticeable difference between the 2022 and 2024 models is the thickness. The 13-inch model is reportedly 1.4mm thinner (5.0mm vs 6.4mm), while the 11-inch model is 0.8mm thinner (5.1mm vs 5.9mm).

This reduction in thickness can be attributed to the adoption of OLED panels, which require fewer layers compared to the previous LCD panels.

Besides this, the iPad Pro (2024) will also receive an upgrade under the hood, transitioning from the 5nm Apple M2 chipset to the more advanced 3nm M3.

Additionally, there have been discussions about adding support for MagSafe charging, and consumers may also see a refreshed Magic Keyboard and a new Apple Pencil.
