iQOO 12, 12 Pro 3C certified, reveals iQOO to ditch 200W charging after offering on iQOO 10 Pro, 11 Pro

China’s 3C regulatory body has given the green light to two upcoming Vivo smartphones, identified by the model numbers V2307A and V2329A. These models appear to be part of Vivo’s sub-brand, the iQOO 12 series, since the Vivo X100 and X100 Pro have also obtained 3C certification. Here is a look at the specifics revealed through this certification.

iQOO 12 hands-on shot reveals V2307A model number

Yesterday, a live image of the standard iQOO 12 emerged on Weibo, providing insights into its key specifications, including the V2307A model number. Hence, the V2307A variant that has been approved by the Chinese authority is the iQOO 12, whereas the V2329A device seems to be the iQOO 12 Pro.

The Vivo charger with V12060L0A0-CN / V12060L1H0-CN / V12060L1A0-CN / V12060L1H1-CN model number can be seen in the 3C listing of the iQOO 12 and 12 Pro supports 120W fast charging. Reports have revealed that the iQOO 12 Pro will support 50W wireless charging, whereas the iQOO 12 will lack support for it. Reports have revealed that the iQOO 12 will have a 5,000mAh battery, whereas the Pro variant will house a 5,100mAh battery.

iQOO 12 series 3C listing
iQOO 12, 12 Pro 3C certified

In the past, iQOO provided 200W fast charging for previous models like the iQOO 11 Pro and iQOO 10 Pro. However, with the 3C certification of the iQOO 12 series, it is evident that iQOO has chosen not to include 200W charging for the iQOO 12 Pro model. It appears that iQOO may issue a statement explaining why it removed 200W fast charging from the iQOO 12 series, despite offering it in the previous two generations, which allowed for a full charge in around 15 minutes.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset will power the iQOO 12 and 12 Pro. The series will be equipped with up to 2K resolution OLED display with support for a 144Hz refresh rate, a dedicated Q1 display processor, an OV50H 50-megapixel main camera + 50-megapixel JN1 ultra-wide lens + OV64B periscope zoom triple camera unit, and OriginOS 4-based Android 14. Both phones will come in colors like white (glass back with BMW stripes), black (glass back), and red (leather back).

Apple discontinues 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar

At its “Scary Fast” event on October 31, Apple unveiled a new lineup of Macs powered by the M3 chip, including a new 14-inch MacBook Pro and a 16-inch MacBook Pro. However, Apple also quietly discontinued the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar.

Farewell, Touch Bar

The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar was launched in 2020 and featured the Apple M2 chip with up to 10 GPU cores. It also featured the Touch Bar, which Apple introduced in 2016 as a dynamic and more intuitive way to interact with macOS.

Apple discontinues 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar

The Touch Bar is a thin, OLED strip that replaces the traditional function keys on the MacBook Pro keyboard. It can be used to display a variety of contextual controls, such as shortcuts for specific apps or tasks. However, the Touch Bar never really caught on with users. Many people found it difficult to use and less efficient than the traditional function keys.

Thus, Apple began to phase out the Touch Bar in 2021. It removed it from the new MacBook Air and the redesigned MacBook Pro. The discontinuation of the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar now means that the Touch Bar is officially dead.

While its discontinuation is a bit sad, it is clear that the Touch Bar was never really a popular feature. It was a bold experiment, but it ultimately failed to gain traction with users.

Want an ad-free experience on Facebook and Instagram? Now you can pay for it

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has launched ad-free subscriptions for its two most popular social media platforms in Europe. The new subscription option is a response to new EU regulations that require companies to offer users a way to opt out of targeted advertising.

Facebook and Instagram are now ad-free, but at a cost

The ad-free subscriptions cost €9.99 (~$10.61) per month if you sign up on the web, and €12.99 (~$13.80) per month if you sign up through the Android or iOS apps. The price difference is due to the additional fees levied by Google and Apple on their respective mobile platforms.

Meta launches ad-free Instagram and Facebook subscriptions in the EU

Since Meta is a more cohesive platform now, a single subscription will cover all of your Facebook and Instagram accounts linked to your Accounts Center. However, starting March 1, 2024, you will need to pay an additional €6/month per month through the web and €8/month through iOS and Android for each additional account in your Accounts Center.

In addition to removing all ads from your Facebook and Instagram feeds, the ad-free subscription also prevents Meta from tracking you for ads. This is a good option for users who are concerned about their online privacy.

The subscription is currently only available in the EU, but Meta may expand it to other regions if similar laws are enacted.

Besides being made on a 3nm process node, the M3 chip family features a next-gen GPU that supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing and mesh shading. These features will enable more realistic graphics and complex scene rendering in both video games and 3D video programs.

Another new feature of all M3 chips is AV1 decode. This will allow for high-quality video rendering faster and more efficiently than other popular codecs.

The M3 chip has an 8-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. It can support up to 24GB of unified memory. The M3 Pro chip has a 12-core CPU and an 18-core GPU. It can support up to 36GB of unified memory. The M3 Max chip has a 16-core CPU and a 40-core GPU. It can support up to 128GB of unified memory, which is a first for Apple silicon.

Here is a table that summarizes the key features of each chip:

Apple says that the M3 chip is up to 35% faster than the M1 chip in terms of CPU performance, and up to 65% faster in terms of GPU performance. The M3 Pro chip is up to 30% faster than the M1 Pro chip in terms of single-threaded performance, and up to 40% faster in terms of GPU performance. The M3 Max chip is up to 80% faster than the M1 Max chip in terms of CPU performance, and up to 50% faster in terms of GPU performance.

Likewise, all M3 chips also feature a next-generation Neural Engine that is up to 60 percent faster than the Neural Engine in the M1 series chips. This will enable faster machine-learning tasks, such as video editing and image processing.

Apple will launch the first M3-based Macs next week. Pre-orders for the M3 and M3 Pro-powered Macs are open now, but the M3 Max Macs models won’t be available until later in November.
