Gaming Monitor Market Leaders Revealed: AOC Maintains Lead for Now, But Xiaomi Gains Ground!

The popularity of gaming equipment is increasing day by day. Today, technology companies are designing and selling a variety of products for gamers, including smartphones, keyboards, mice, and headphones. One of these products is, of course, the gaming monitor. For example, Acer recently introduced the Nitro XV242F, a 540Hz gaming monitor, which has accelerated the competition. Not only Acer, but also Xiaomi, AOC, and Asus are competing fiercely in the global monitor market. So, who is the winner of this race? A recent study by RUNTO has revealed the answer to this question. Here are the details…

Xiaomi’s Affordable Gaming Monitors Help the Company Surge in China’s Competitive Gaming Monitor Market

China is one of the most important markets in the world. This is due to the country’s large population and the population’s interest in technology. As a result, growth in various product markets is inevitable. Gaming monitors are one of these areas. According to the report, China’s online gaming monitor market saw strong growth in August 2023, with shipments reaching 352,000 units, up 36% year-on-year and 12% month-on-month. So, who is on top?

Xiaomi vs AOC Gaming monitör

The top three brands in the market remained unchanged, with AOC, HKC, and Titan Gaming continuing to lead the pack. However, Xiaomi made a big jump from sixth place to fourth, thanks to the popularity of its P27QBC-RG and A24FAA-RG models. As we said, AOC retained the top spot, however its shipments only grew by 5% year-on-year.

HKC, on the other hand, saw its shipments more than double, growing by 100% year-on-year. Titan Gaming also saw its shipments grow by 26% year-on-year. Xiaomi’s success in the gaming monitor market is due to its focus on affordability and value. The company’s gaming monitors are typically priced lower than those of its competitors, while still offering competitive performance and features.

The P27QBC-RG is a 27-inch QHD monitor with a 165Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time. The A24FAA-RG is a 24-inch Full HD monitor with a 144Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time. Both models are available for under 2,000 Yuan ($300). Other trends in the Chinese gaming monitor market include the growing popularity of 2K and 4K resolutions, as well as HDR support.

The demand for larger screen sizes is also increasing, with 27-inch monitors becoming increasingly popular. The Chinese gaming monitor market is expected to continue to grow in the coming years.

A17 Pro Barely Beats A16 Bionic in iPhone 15 Pro Leak

Apple recently introduced the iPhone 15 series at the Wonderlust event. While the new models attracted attention with their features and Pro-ness, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, like last year, stood out for their performance compared to the standard models thanks to the A17 Pro processor. At least, that’s what Apple wanted us to think. However, some tests showed otherwise. According to a leak, A17 Pro is only slightly faster than the A16 Bionic, with a 10% improvement in single-core performance. Here are the details…

iPhone 15 Pro’s A17 Pro Benchmarks: Single-Core Improvement Falls Short of Expectations

According to a Geekbench benchmark, the A17 Pro has a single-core score of 2914, which is only 10% higher than the A16 Bionic’s score of 2655. The multi-core score is also only slightly higher, at 7199 compared to the A16 Bionic’s 6952. These results are a bit surprising, given that Apple had previously claimed that the A17 Pro would be up to 20% faster than the A16 Bionic. However, it’s possible that Apple was referring to the GPU performance, which is really 20% faster.

Apple A16 Bionic vs A17 Pro

However, that’s normal that considering the fundamental differences between the two processors. For example the A17 Pro has a 6-core GPU, compared to the A16 Bionic’s 5-core GPU. The A17 Pro is also more power-efficient than the A16 Bionic, which could lead to better battery life. However, it’s too early to say for sure how the A17 Pro will perform in the real world.

It’s also worth noting that the A17 Pro is still a very new chip, and it’s possible that it will improve over time with software updates. So, it’s too early to say definitively whether or not the A17 Pro is a disappointment. Moreover, the A17 Pro has a new neural engine that is twice as fast as the previous generation, and it also supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing. This could make the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max better for gaming and augmented reality applications.

So, what does this mean for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max? Well, they will still be among the fastest smartphones on the market, but they may not be as much of a leap forward as some people were expecting. Therefore, if you are an iPhone 14 Pro Max user like me, or if you have one of the other current models, you may want to wait for the iPhone 16 series to upgrade your phone.

Google says it’s the leading search engine because users prefer it over others in antitrust trial defense

Google has dismissed accusations that it is the world’s biggest search engine because of illegal practices. Google has been accused of monopolizing the market, making huge payments to Apple, Samsung, and others. The US antitrust trial is in Washington and will last for up to 10 weeks.

google

The US alleges that Google spends billions of dollars to sustain and maintain its monopoly as a search engine. Opening statements have been made by both sides to kickstart the trial. This first phase will assess whether Google has monopolized the market through underhand means.

A lawyer representing Google at the trial said that companies choose Google as the default search engine in their products because it is the best, and not due to a lack of competition. He asserted that Google was popular because it delivers value to consumers.

The high-stakes antitrust trial will expectedly be followed keenly. The case is a major test of the power of US regulators over global tech companies. The government’s lawsuit says Google typically pays $10 billion every year to Apple, Samsung, and Mozilla for it to be pre-installed as the default search engine in their devices and browsers. This therefore secured Google’s access to a steady stream of user data that helped maintain its hold on the market.

The trial will feature testimony from Google boss Sundar Pichai and also Apple executives. Judge Amit Mehta will decide the case – the biggest for the industry in 25 years.

Google recently settled another case over its App Store instituted by US states. It is also facing a federal lawsuit over its advertising business and has been fined billions of dollars in monopoly cases in Europe. A loss in this case may lead to a possible break-up in Google.

Honda Unveils the Motocompacto Electric Scooter with a Trendsetting Design

Honda’s got an ace up its sleeve for city-goers and it’s not your traditional e-bike. The Honda Motocompacto, a compact all-electric scooter, has got people talking, and it’s not just for its 1980s Motocompo inspiration. What sets this scooter apart? For starters, the folded design is akin to a portable table, tiny aluminum wheels and all. With a quick extension of the handlebars, seats, and back wheel, it morphs into a petite ride that’s just over three feet in length.

The scooter has a small range of 12 miles, but it’s also quite cheap

Weighing 41 pounds, the Motocompacto isn’t exactly feather-light, but it’s comparable to average e-bikes. However, don’t plan a road trip; it offers a modest range of 12 miles. And while a 3.5-hour charge time might give pause, an integrated on-board charger compensates, letting you plug into a standard 110V outlet.

Honda

What’s the buzz then? Portability. Designed to effortlessly accompany you in cars or on public transit, the Motocompacto fits right in for urban commuters who shudder at the thought of locking up an e-bike all day. It’s a timely addition, aligning with Honda’s ambitious goal to transition its entire vehicle line to electric and fuel-cell by 2040.

Set to roll out this November and priced under $995, the Motocompacto might just be the pocket-sized nostalgia city dwellers didn’t know they needed.

Available exclusively at Motocompacto.com and select Honda and Acura dealerships, this scooter could rewrite the rules for urban transportation. And who knows, its compact charm might just inspire a new generation of sustainable commuters.

Google and iFixit Double Down on DIY Repairs, Now Covering Pixel Tablets

With phone manufacturers making their phones more “fixable”, Google and iFixit have extended their collaboration to include original components for Google‘s Pixel tablet, released just this June. This expansion adds another layer to a booming culture of DIY tech repairs, all while making a powerful statement about the electronics industry’s direction.

A new screen can cost about $200, and the toolkit is an additional $6

Originally teaming up for Pixel phones, the collaboration has expanded its horizon. Now, original Pixel tablet parts, including the rear case complete with three microphones, antennas, and other bells and whistles, are up for grabs for a cool $200. While a back camera, speaker, and USB-C port replacements are more budget-friendly at $25 each, a new tablet battery will cost you $67. Those in need of a new screen can expect to shell out $200, and if you’re a DIY novice, a toolkit is available for an additional $6.

Pixel 7a

However, it’s not just about the parts. iFixit offers step-by-step guides on its portal, ensuring even the most inexperienced tech enthusiasts can navigate repairs with relative ease.

This partnership also sets a precedent for other brands to follow. iFixit had previously partnered with Samsung, offering repair options for Galaxy devices. But Google extending its commitment to tablet repairs marks another milestone in encouraging DIY repairs and sustainability in the tech world.

Through this collaboration, Google and iFixit are not just marketing spare parts; they are selling self-sufficiency, knowledge, and a more circular economy, right in the palms of our hands.

This is a game-changer. And not just for Pixel tablet owners, but for an industry wrestling with issues like planned obsolescence and electronic waste. The message is clear: our devices don’t have to be disposable; they can be fixable, and by us. So next time your Pixel tablet encounters a glitch, remember—you have the power to fix it. Literally.

Apple Could Revolutionize Mobile Gaming As iPhone 15 Pro Variants Will Run AAA Titles Arriving This Year

Apple unveiled its latest generation flagship iPhone 15 lineup earlier this week. The Pro and Pro Max variants come with significant upgrades over their predecessors including titanium chassis, a solid state action button, an A17 Pro Bionic processor based on a 3nm process, and more. At the Wonderlust event, Apple also revealed the iPhone 15 Pro’s gaming capabilities. It means that the devices will be able to play top console games natively. Read on to know more about this below.

iPhone 15 Pro models will run AAA gaming titles

Handheld gaming consoles have been gaining traction recently. However, it’s not the same thing with mobile gaming although some actual AAA titles have been releasing versions for smartphones. This is because console and PC games are usually inaccessible on mobile technology.

Apple’s A17 Pro processor that powers the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max is almost on par with handheld gaming consoles like Steam Deck, ROG Ally, etc. The CPU has a six-core structure and a 20 percent faster GPU for an overall improved performance and energy consumption. Apple also introduced hardware-accelerated Ray Tracing on the SoC that is claimed to run any game at a higher frame rate compared to software-based ray tracing. The technology also offers realistic and immersive viewing experiences in games. According to Apple, the A17 Pro offers “next-level mobile gaming with fast, efficient performance and hardware-accelerated ray tracing.”

At the annual fall event, the Cupertino-based tech giant announced that AAA console games will arrive on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. This is especially a big win for mobile gamers since the smartphones will also support third-party controllers. The iPhone 15 Pro models are set to get Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Death Stranding later this year. Assassins Creed Mirage which will release for PC and Consoles on October 5 will be arriving on smartphones early next year.

It now remains to be seen if people will be ready to play and pay the full price for big titles like these on the iPhone 15 Pro.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro series first iPhones to feature ISRO’s NavIC GPS

The highly anticipated Apple iPhone 15 series was just recently launched. The new smartphones are set to go on sale later this month across the globe, with India also seeing a same-day launch for the first time. But this isn’t the only first for the region as the brand’s iPhone 15 Pro models will finally support local GPS technology as well.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro series finally feature NavIC

According to a TechCrunch report, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are the first ever iPhone models to feature NavIC for GPS. For those unaware, this is an indigenous GPS technology that was developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). NavIC employs seven satellites that covers India and a region of around 1,500 kilometers beyond the nation’s boundary. It also serves various other purposes like terrestrial, aerial, and marine transportation.

This feature was found on the detailed spec list of the iPhone 15 Pro series and can be found in the cellular and wireless section. Unfortunately, the NavIC support appears to be limited to the higher-end devices. In other words, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus do not feature the local GPS technology. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are the first to feature NavIC, which follows the likes of other smartphone brands like Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Vivo.

So, ISRO’s tech has been seeing higher adoption in recent years. This move also showcases Apple’s commitment to expand in the region. It has already started assembling the new iPhone 15 lineup in the region and is seeking to further expand production in a bid to shift its reliance away from China.

How Tesla’s Supercharger Network Will Become Europe’s Electric Highway

In a huge boost for green transportation, the European Union (EU) has allocated a whopping €352 million ($378 million) to develop eco-friendly transport infrastructure. Tesla, a leader in the electric vehicle industry, will be one of the major beneficiaries. While this may seem like a large chunk of money going to one company, there’s more to the story that benefits the average driver on European roads.

875 superchargers already line the continent for future EV needs

Tesla’s Polish and Italian divisions will receive €148.72 million ($159.64 million) for the expansion and upgrade of 7,198 Superchargers across 22 European countries. Notably, Tesla’s Supercharger V4 could potentially get an upgrade from this funding, which would bring its power output from 250 kW to a whopping 350 kW. But what does this mean for Europe’s green transport network?

Tesla

The importance lies in the sheer scale and spread of Tesla’s Supercharger network. Already boasting 875 stations across the continent, the company recently celebrated its 10,000th individual Supercharger connector in the EU. This additional funding would amplify its reach, covering 16 nations along the Core and Comprehensive Network, including an extra six countries through Tesla’s Polish division.

But Tesla isn’t just boosting its own network. Major car companies like Ford, GM, Volvo, and Mercedes have adopted Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) port and struck deals to use its Superchargers. This makes Tesla’s network not just a private utility, but a quasi-public infrastructure that benefits a wider range of electric vehicle users. Furthermore, in early 2021, Tesla began opening its network to all EV users in select locations in the Netherlands, France, and Norway, further democratizing access to electric vehicle charging.

According to European Commissioner for Transport Adina Vălean, the EU will also invest in 18 hydrogen refueling stations and electrification of ports and airports. This illustrates the EU’s diversified approach to green transportation. While Tesla’s share might seem sizable, it serves a broader objective—making green driving a practical and accessible option for millions of Europeans.
