You can now use Samsung Quick Share on non-Samsung PCs

The Samsung Quick Share was first announced for the Windows platform more than 2 years ago. However, this application was only accessible between Samsung branded Windows PCs (Laptops & PCs), tablets, and smartphones. But now, this feature is finally being rolled out to include non-Samsung products as well.

Samsung Quick Share rolling for every Windows PC now

For those unaware, the Quick Share from the South Korean tech giant was exclusive to only Samsung products, so one could not install the app on any other brand’s Windows device. But thankfully, this is changing soon. The company has just released the new Quick Share version v1.4.40 on Windows. With this change, the official update change log states that the app will now support “Windows PCs of other companies.”

Samsung

Meaning, the Quick Share application can now be installed on non-Samsung branded desktops and laptops. Thanks to this feature, one can seamlessly transfer files and more from your Samsung Galaxy smartphone or tablet to any of your Windows PCs. But, this Quick Share will only work on Windows devices that feature at least Intel’s Bluetooth driver version 22.50.02 and Intel’s Wi-Fi driver version 22.50.07.

To put it simply, it will only work with these versions and chips from MediaTek or other manufacturers are not supported at the moment. However, its not all bad news considering that Microsoft Phone Link and Google Nearby Share are still viable alternatives. But hopefully, Samsung manages to include the broader Windows devices market in the near future. Here’s our guide on how to use Nearby Share on Android and Windows.

Samsung faces class action lawsuit over 4K QLED TVs in the US

Samsung and Best Buy are facing a class action lawsuit in the US over allegations that certain Samsung QLED 4K TVs do not possess advertised features. The lawsuit, filed by Ray Kim Law in California Central District Court, claims that Motion Xcelerator Turbo+, FreeSync, and HDMI 2.1 ports are missing from some of the TVs sold by the company and the retailer.

Samsung Electronics

The Missing Features: Motion Xcelerator Turbo+, FreeSync, and HDMI 2.1 Ports

The lawsuit highlights the absence of Motion Xcelerator Turbo+ in select QLED TVs, which is a feature designed to enhance the frame rate of content by inserting new frames between existing ones. This feature ensures smoother playback and a more fluid viewing experience. Additionally, the missing FreeSync technology, developed by AMD, which synchronizes the refresh rate of the display with the content’s frame rate to eliminate screen tearing and juddering, has also been cited.

Another advertised feature absent from some models is HDMI 2.1, the latest version of HDMI. HDMI 2.1 supports higher resolution and frame rates, allowing for the transmission of content with up to 4K resolution at 120 frames per second or 8K resolution at 60 frames per second. Even TVs with a 60Hz refresh rate typically come equipped with HDMI 2.1 ports, as it has become a common industry standard.

As of now, specific details regarding the affected Samsung QLED 4K TV models have not been disclosed. It is expected that further information will emerge in the coming days as the story unfolds. For prospective Samsung TV buyers, it is advisable to verify the presence of advertised features before making a purchase.
