Smartphones are an integral aspect of modern day life, but the question stands. How far will you go to save your device if you’ve dropped it somewhere hard to reach. This Indian government official answers the question with a very questionable rescue operation for his Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Indian Govt official suspended for his attempts to save his Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
According to an Indian Express report, the government official had dropped his Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra while taking a selfie in a reservoir in the Chattisgarh State in India. The official decided to take extreme steps to retrieve the smartphone since it cost over 1,200 US Dollars. Initially, he decided to have some known villagers dive into the dam to find the handset, but when this failed, some extreme measures were taken.
The food inspector rented a pump and drained about three feet of water over the course of the next two days. This finally helped him retrieve his Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, but the victory lap was only short lived as the move was received extremely negatively, to no one’s surprise. As per reports, the water that was drained amounted to 2,100,000 liters was meant to be used to irrigate the fields of at least 1,500 acres.
Following this incident, the government sub divisional officer (SDO) was promptly suspended. The official claimed that the water was unusable for irrigation and that he had received proper permission for this action. Despite such drastic actions, the retrieved Galaxy S23 Ultra did not survive incident.

Xiaomi ended software support for Mi 10 Lite Zoom, a China-exclusive smartphone in late April. Back then, we suggested that the global Mi 10 Lite 5G may get a similar treatment in a month. This has happened now as the device has been listed on Xiaomi’s official EOS (End of Support) list.
At the same time, the company has dropped software support for three of the Redmi Note 9 series handsets, such as Redmi Note 9S, Redmi Note 9 Pro, and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. Let’s go through the details.
According to Xiaomiui, Xiaomi has added the Mi 10 Lite 5G to its EOS list. This confirms the termination of software support for this phone.
On the other hand, the aforementioned Redmi Note 9 models are yet to be included in the said list. But as per the security bulletin, they are supposed to receive security updates only until May 2023.
As these phones just received a security update in April and May is about to end, there may not be a new software build hereafter. The EOS list will likely be updated in a while with these handsets.
All these smartphones were released in early 2020. So Xiaomi ended their software support 3 years after their release.
For comparison, similarly priced Samsung devices from the same period will continue to receive software support till next year (4 years). But Oppo, Vivo, and Realme have the same policy as Xiaomi.

Vivo S series is the company’s mid-range line, which includes some good-looking phones. Towards the end of 2022, Vivo launched the S16 series in China and now after around 6 months, it is ready to move to the S17 family. While it’s unlikely that these new smartphones will be available worldwide, there’s still a reason for you to pay attention. Vivo rebrands the S series under its popular V line, suggesting that the S17 might be launched outside of China as the Vivo V29.
This year, the Vivo S17 lineup is rumored to include the — Vivo S17, Vivo S17t, and Vivo S17 Pro. All three will be unveiled in China on May 31. Ahead of the release, we have gathered everything known about the upcoming series in this post. Let’s have a look.
Design & Display
Vivo’s S series, also known as the Vivo V series, has consistently offered smartphones with great-looking designs, which has also become a key selling point for these lifestyle-oriented devices. Vivo has gone above and beyond to add unique features into their V and S series phones, such as color-changing back panels, curved displays, soft LED lighting for selfies, and more.
If we recall the recent global debut of the Vivo V27 Pro, it continues the trend by featuring a color-shifting back panel, similar to the V25 and V23 models. It boasts a dual-glass and plastic frame construction, contributing to its thin and lightweight body. There’s an unnecessarily large camera module but Vivo makes up for it with a neat camera setup.
The upcoming Vivo S17 series is likely to be no exception. The design and construction of all three phones should resemble the current Vivo S16 devices. They could have their sides curved towards the longer edges. The frame is expected to be made of plastic with a glossy finish, flat around the top and bottom sides, and super thin across the left and right.
Vivo will be making some changes to the camera module though. While the phones will still feature a large rectangular island for the cameras, the alignment will be different. Based on the TENAA images of the Vivo S17 Pro, it appears that there will now be only two large camera rings, with the third ring being replaced by an LED flash. The third camera sensor will now be positioned next to the second LED flash on the other end of the module. The non-pro phones will get a dual camera setup.
Vivo phones shine in the selfie camera department. Quite literally, because the Vivo S17 Pro will feature a pair of dual-tone LED lights hidden in the left and right top corners of the display. These will help users to take good selfies even in the dark. The Vivo S17, S17t, and S17 Pro will all get a large 6.78-inch AMOLED display. They will offer an impressive 1.5K resolution of 1260 x 2800 pixels. Furthermore, the panel is expected to support a 120Hz refresh rate.
Specifications
Talking about the other hardware specs, the Vivo S17 will be powered by the Snapdragon 782G processor, while the S17t is rumored to get a Dimensity 8050 chip running at 3GHz. Both devices are likely to support fast charging technology, with either 66W or 80W charging.
In terms of camera setup, the S17 and S17t will sport a dual-camera configuration on the rear. This setup will consist of a 50MP primary Sony IMX766V sensor with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and an 8MP Sony IMX355 ultra-wide sensor.
Moving on to the Vivo S17 Pro, it is rumored to be powered by the Dimensity 8200 processor and support 80W charging. Unlike the other two phones, the S17 Pro will feature a triple-camera setup, including a 50MP Sony IMX766V main sensor with OIS, a 12MP Sony IMX663 telephoto sensor, and an 8MP Sony IMX355 ultra-wide lens.
All three phones in the Vivo S17 series will come preloaded with the Android 13 operating system with the OriginOS 3.1 user interface on top. They will also include an under-display fingerprint scanner, an IR blaster, and NFC support. The Vivo S17 trio is expected to be available in different RAM variants such as 8GB, 12GB, and 16GB, along with storage options ranging from 128GB to 512 GB. Powering these smartphones will be a 4,505mAh battery.
Expected Pricing
The pricing details of the upcoming Vivo S17 series are yet to be known. We can expect a slight price bump as compared to last year’s models. For reference, the base storage versions of the Vivo S16 series were priced as follows in China:
