Sony PlayStation eyes live service games with a brand new franchise

Sony PlayStation is apparently planning on establishing itself in the lucrative space of the live service games market. The company’s PlayStation exclusive games are best known for some of the best narrative driven titles is reportedly planning to enter live service games with a brand new franchise.

Sony PlayStation is seeking to step into the live service games market

The PlayStation console brings access to several single player campaign titles that have received been widely accredited. This includes games like God of War, Horizon series, The Last of Us, and more. But, it appears that the brand is planning to expand into the highly successful strategy that many other companies employ with the live service model. For those unaware, a live service game is basically a game that works with internet connectivity and typically offers some degree of multiplayer element.

Sony

These titles are also usually free to play and make money directly through sales on in game cosmetic items or other forms of paid DLCs. One of the reasons for their success is the fact a studio needs to make a game and simply update the content offered to retain their playerbase. A great example of this is the massively successful Fortnite from Epic and the Destiny franchise by Bungie. Now, it appears that Sony is seeking to make some changes with its own formula as well. Notably, the news also arrives as the company even looks to launch a new handheld game streaming device that works off of the PS5.

Previously, 88 percent of the company’s games followed the traditional model, while only 12 percent were live service. But it recently revealed that its latest investment strategy will have this ratio flip to 40 percent and 60 percent respectively. In other words, it is going to lean heavily towards the live service model. Furthermore, it is even planning on launching a brand new franchise for this move. It promised to offer a “a glimpse at several new creations from PlayStation Studios” soon.

uleFone Armor 21 Review: A full-featured outdoor helper

When I browsed the official website of uleFone one day, I didn’t realize that they had so many kinds of rugged phones. Looking at the video title you can see that even the Armor series has been announced up to 21. This time we also got their latest rugged phone: uleFone Armor 21. Each of their rugged phones has a different main selling point, so follow us to see what this one is good at.

Unboxing

From the packaging alone, the Armor 21 is no different from other uleFone phones. It comes with an extra phone strap and a card pin, which you might take for granted. But its SIM card slot can be pulled out without the card pin, so this card pin is really what uleFone lets you use for other phones. By the way, the SIM card tray can hold two SIM cards and a TF card at the same time.

The charger is a USB-C port, does that mean it will give us some surprises? Yes, it has a lot of charging protocols. Although the power is only 33w, but almost all phones can be charged quickly with it. It’s considered very good in free chargers. This is all the accessories in the phone box.

In addition to the Armor 21, we also received several accessories for it. Let’s start with the phone case. This case is made of a hard PC and has a groove on the back. With the other two accessories you can hang the phone on your clothes or backpack, quick-release design is also available to let you quickly take the phone off.

The rest of the accessories are also our old friends. There is a 10w desk charging dock that can be charged through the contact, and a phone mount that can be fixed through the phone case.

And two special-purpose lenses, a microscope camera, and an endoscope camera, which are connected to the phone through the interface on the side of the phone. There’s always a need to fix your own equipment or cars in the outdoors. That’s the first major selling point of Armor 21: A phone, but one that can be used as a repair tool in many different ways.

Design

Looking at the Armor 21 from a design perspective, it is easy to see that it is actually an upgraded version of the Power Armor 16 Pro. The most obvious feature is the large speaker. The RGB light ring around the speaker is also very eye-catching. They call this the Infinite Halo, which lights up when music is playing. It looks cool. The huge speaker size predestines it to sound very loud, as a portable Bluetooth speaker sound quality is also good. I will put the speaker test at the end of the review video, interested viewers can listen to it.

The Armor 21’s entire body is wrapped in rubber and reinforced by two metal sides. Side fingerprint recognition, custom buttons, and a 3.5mm headphone jack such rugged phone basic specifications of course will not be absent, there are even NFC and IR blasters. I have to admit that Armor 21 is really a rugged phone that is impeccable in terms of functionality.

How solid is it

Although one thing you don’t need to worry about with the rugged phone is its protection, I still want to briefly describe how sturdy it is. Normal drop is completely fine, want to break it maybe need to go to the cliff edge. IP69K, and IP68 waterproof and dustproof can also let your phone survive in extreme environments. This is also the main reason why you buy a rugged phone, right?

Performance & Others

The Armor 21 is powered by Helio G99, which is much stronger than the 16 Pro’s G25. The Antutu Bench scores 360,000 points, which is average for a mainstream rugged phone. You can play some casual games, even Genshin Impact with the lowest Graphics is barely playable. The FHD+ screen refresh rate is up to 120Hz, and there is also a 90Hz gear that is both power-saving and not too laggy to choose from. The battery is still 9600mAh, which is a relatively large battery even for a rugged phone.

Camera

Armor 21 has two rear cameras, a 64MP main camera, and a 24MP Night vision camera. I think the image quality of the main camera is similar to a $200 or $300 ordinary phone. I mean it’s great, most of the time it does its job well, and even the front lens I think exceeds my expectations. Although I didn’t know its price at the time of recording this video, I bet the quality of photos like this is worth its price.

Now let’s answer the question at the beginning of the video, what exactly is Armor 21 good at? Pretty much everything. It can take good pictures, has a smooth screen for browsing websites, has a super loud speaker for portable speakers, and can connect to a variety of cameras to help you do a better job of fixing things. It’s few weaknesses may be that the performance is not that strong, but I believe uleFone will make a great value price that you can’t refuse it.

Sony Expands Chip Business with Second Manufacturing Plant in Kumamoto, Japan

In a strategic move to bolster its chip business, Sony Corporation has announced its plan to acquire approximately 27 hectares (270,000 square meters) of land in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. According to reports from Bloomberg News and local media sources, the company intends to construct its second manufacturing plant in Kumamoto, with a potential investment reaching hundreds of billions of yen.

The Production is expected to begin in 2025

The primary objective behind this expansion is to accelerate Sony’s development in the competitive chip business sector and cater to the growing demand for Sony semiconductors in the global market. This move aligns with Sony Group’s previous considerations, as reported by IT Home in December last year, of building a new factory in Kumamoto Prefecture specifically for producing smartphone image sensors. The initial timeline proposed breaking ground in 2024, with production commencing as early as 2025.

Sony

Sony Semiconductor Solutions, a subsidiary of Sony Semiconductor, currently holds the top position in terms of revenue share, commanding 44% of the market. Following closely are Samsung System LSI and OMNIVISION. Together, Sony, Samsung, and OMNIVISION control almost 83% of the global smartphone image sensor market, according to IT Home.

Shimizu Terushi, president of Sony Semiconductor Solutions, acknowledged the prevailing semiconductor shortage and emphasized the significance of TSMC’s decision to establish a factory in Kumamoto. Terushi stated that this development has “increased confidence” in expanding procurement channels. Consequently, Sony’s acquisition of land in Kumamoto can be seen as a strategic measure to enhance its own production capacity and secure reserve space.

By investing in a second manufacturing plant in Kumamoto, Sony aims to fortify its position in the chip business, effectively meeting the rising demand for its high-quality semiconductors. With its continued commitment to innovation and expansion, Sony is poised to make substantial strides in the global market, further solidifying its presence as a key player in the industry.

With access to a wide range of games without the need for extensive storage space, streaming devices provide instant and diverse gaming options. Advanced features, such as high-quality screens and compatibility with existing controllers, enhance the gaming experience. The Sony Streaming Device will feature an 8-inch Display, bigger than the Nintendo Switch

Sony, the renowned gaming company, has once again captured the attention of gaming enthusiasts with its latest announcement during Wednesday’s PlayStation Showcase. The highly anticipated unveiling introduced an innovative streaming device for the PlayStation 5, named Project Q.

Sony

Project Q aims to revolutionize gaming on the go, allowing players to effortlessly stream their cherished PlayStation library to a compact screen through a shared Wi-Fi network. It’s important to note that games must already be installed on the paired PlayStation 5 to ensure smooth functionality. Regrettably, PlayStation VR 2 games will not be compatible with this streaming device.

The centerpiece of Project Q is an impressive eight-inch screen, reminiscent of the beloved Nintendo Switch or the more recent Steam Deck. Surrounding the screen are PlayStation controller halves, ingeniously designed to replicate all the buttons and features of a standard PlayStation 5 controller. This seamless integration promises a familiar gaming experience for PlayStation aficionados.

In addition to the groundbreaking Project Q, Sony also unveiled specialized PlayStation 5 earbuds. These earbuds promise audio immersion, offering lossless audio while playing games on both the PS5 and PC platforms. With these earbuds, Sony seeks to elevate gaming audio to new heights, providing players with an auditory experience that truly enhances their gameplay.

The future for Sony’s Project Q and similar streaming devices appears promising and exciting. The eight-inch screen size of Project Q hints at the potential for larger screens or even foldable displays, offering players an immersive visual experience. Additionally, as internet speeds and connectivity improve, the streaming capabilities of these devices will become more seamless and reliable. We may also see expanded compatibility, allowing players to stream games from multiple platforms, further enhancing the versatility of these devices. With Sony’s commitment to innovation and the growing demand for portable gaming solutions, the future for Project Q and similar devices is undoubtedly bright, promising an exhilarating gaming experience for players wherever they may be.

Microsoft Surface Pro X Bug Breaks Camera Functionality for Users

The Microsoft Surface Pro X is a flagship tablet that combines the portability of a tablet with the functionality of a laptop. It is powered by an Arm processor, which allows for impressive battery life and excellent performance. The Surface Pro X features a sleek and lightweight design, with a detachable keyboard and a high-resolution touchscreen display. It runs on Windows 10 or Windows 11, offering a seamless user experience and compatibility with a wide range of software and applications. Surface Pro X owners have encountered a frustrating problem this week as the cameras on their devices suddenly ceased to function. Numerous Reddit users and Microsoft support forum posters have reported that reinstalling drivers did not resolve the issue.

The Bug is probably because of an Expired Security Certificate in Windows

The Verge, investigating the matter, confirmed the problem on a Surface Pro X unit. When attempting to use the camera app, Windows displayed a discouraging “0xA00F4271<MediaCaptureFailedEvent> (0x80004005)” error message. Although the cause of the camera malfunction remains unclear, a temporary workaround has been discovered that suggests an expired security certificate in Windows may be to blame.

Surface Pro X

Surface Pro X owners noticed that rolling back the system date to May 22nd restored camera functionality. However, it is important to note that altering the system date could lead to authentication issues with specific websites and services. Consequently, this is merely a stopgap solution until Microsoft addresses the underlying problem.

Interestingly, these camera problems have emerged amidst Microsoft’s Build developers conference. The company also showcased enhancements for Windows 11 and unveiled its new AI-powered Copilot assistant at the same event. Furthermore, Microsoft has discussed its plans to enhance ARM-powered AI experiences, indicating a continued commitment to addressing user concerns.

As Surface Pro X owners eagerly await a permanent fix, it is evident that Microsoft remains dedicated to delivering optimal performance and reliability to its customers.

Samsung Galaxy S23 FE may launch in Q3 2023 before Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5

Previous reports claimed Samsung was planning to launch the Galaxy S23 Fan Edition in the fourth quarter of 2023. However, a new development reveals that the Galaxy S23 FE will launch much earlier than expected. The early arrival of the device is said to be due to the alleged lacklustre sales of the Galaxy S23 series, which debuted at the beginning of this year.

According to tipster Revengus, the sales of the Galaxy S23 lineup significantly went down this month (May). It is forecasted that its sales may decrease by more than 20 percent in the second quarter of this year as compared to what Galaxy S22 series achieved in the same period last year.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G
Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G

It appears that the initial wave of tech enthusiasts had already acquired the newly unveiled Galaxy S23 series by March, but it seems that it didn’t attract as much interest from other buyers afterwards. The tipster added that due to sluggish sales of the S23 lineup, it is being said that Samsung may announce the Galaxy S23 FE in some markets before it unveils the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Hence, it is likely that the S23 FE may debut around July or August this year.

According to the tipster, the Galaxy S23 FE will be an affordable version of the Galaxy S23. Since its specifications will not be too different from those of the S23, it will not take much time for Samsung to prepare and release it in the market.

Reports have revealed that the Galaxy S23 FE will have the Exynos 2200 chipset. It will have 6 GB / 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB / 256 GB of storage. The device will be backed by a 4,500mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging.

The S23 FE will have a 120Hz AMOLED display on the front. On the back, the device will be equipped with a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS support.

Apple iPhone’s Display may become ‘Smarter’ after iOS 17 Update

What if we can use our smartphones as smart displays in landscape mode, something like the Google Nest? On paper, it would require adaptations to both hardware and software. Manufacturers would need to optimize the operating system and user interface to support landscape orientation, ensuring that app interfaces are properly aligned and resized. This mode would enable extended display functionality, such as split-screen multitasking and widgets, enhancing productivity. Contextual switching based on orientation could automatically activate a smart display mode, and power and heat management would be optimized for landscape usage. To encourage app development, manufacturers could provide developers with tools, APIs, and guidelines for creating applications that fully utilize the landscape mode display. Well, recent leaks have suggested that Apple could incorporate such technology into their upcoming iOS 17 update.

The feature may be unveiled at WWDC, which is less than a couple of weeks away

With a focus on enhancing user convenience, Apple plans to transform the locked iPhone screen into a smart display when the device is in landscape orientation. This exciting development aims to provide users with live information at a glance, similar to popular smart display devices like Google Nest Hub and Amazon Echo, according to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

IOS 17

According to insider information, the iPhone’s iOS 17 smart display will showcase an array of useful information, including current weather, upcoming calendar appointments, and notifications. The interface, which is expected to debut during the WWDC 2023 Developer Conference on June 5th, aims to make the iPhone as functional as ever, even when lying on a desk or nightstand.

With iOS 17, Apple is taking strides towards offering live information across more areas of the iPhone’s software. The dark background with bright text ensures optimal readability, while the landscape-oriented smart display breathes new life into the locked screen experience. Apple’s internal codename for iOS 17, “Dawn,” indicates that it will coincide with the highly anticipated release of the iPhone 15 series in September.

Not stopping at iPhone innovation, Apple is reportedly developing a new horizontal interface for iPad tablets. Although the iPad has typically lagged behind the iPhone in terms of adopting new features, Apple is gradually bridging the gap. While iPhone users already enjoy lock screen widgets, iPad users can anticipate their arrival in the near future.

Beyond software advancements, Apple is also exploring the production of a low-cost tablet that can magnetically attach to stands and walls. This potential device could serve as an entry point for Apple into the smart display market, complementing its existing Apple HomePod smart speaker lineup. Rumors suggest that a model featuring an attached display might hit the market in the first half of the coming year, enabling users to control smart devices, host FaceTime chats, and enjoy video content. Apart from updates to iOS 17, Apple is also expected to unveil the new 15-inch Macbook Air at the WWDC 2023, which is fast approaching. Fans of the brand will be excited to see what Apple has in store for them.
