Latest iPhone 15 Renders Reveal New ‘Curvier’ Design With Slimmer Bezels

As Apple gears up to introduce the iPhone 15 later this year, exclusive renders of the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro have surfaced, and it’s a sight to behold. Based on a CAD model provided by a reliable case manufacturer and a 3D artist, these renders give us a glimpse of the upcoming flagship device from Apple. The CAD files, like the one used in creating these renders, are provided by Apple to factories in Asia to prepare phone cases ahead of launch. This ensures that cases are available to consumers when the device is launched.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max

What’s new? Well, as previously speculated, we will be saying goodbye to Apple’s proprietary connector, the Lightning port, and hello to USB-C. This change marks a major shift in the design and features of the iPhone, all thanks to the pressure from the European Union, which has been pushing for a common charging standard for all smartphones and devices.

But that’s not all. The iPhone 15 Pro has undergone a significant design overhaul. As per the renders, the curvature of the edges, both on the glass and on the metal frame, has been updated to create a more seamless transition to the frame. This could make the phone more comfortable to hold and less prone to accidental touches.

Apple iPhone 15 Renders

The camera bump on the back is also thicker than before, indicating that Apple may have upgraded the camera system with new sensors or lenses. The camera layout remains similar to the iPhone 14 Pro, with three lenses and a LiDAR scanner arranged in a square module. The camera lenses are thicker in this generation, likely hinting at larger image sensors.

There are also changes to the volume rockers and the mute switch. The volume rockers look like capacitive buttons instead of physical ones, as speculated previously. The mute switch also looks redesigned, with a smaller and rounder shape similar to that of the capacitive buttons.

While we can’t say for sure, the resolution of the iPhone 15 Pro is expected to be similar to that of the iPhone 14 Pro. The body of the device is slightly smaller with thinner bezels, so it’s likely we’ll see the same 6.1-inch or a slightly larger display in a smaller body. The Dynamic Island is still present and looks to be about the same size as the iPhone 14 Pro.

Of course, these renders are based on an early CAD model and may not reflect all aspects of Apple’s final design. But they do give us an idea of what we can expect from one of this year’s most anticipated smartphones. With a more ergonomic frame, an updated camera system, and USB-C, the iPhone 15 Pro is sure to make waves in the smartphone industry.

OnePlus, which recently launched the OnePlus Ace 2 smartphone in its home country China, is now gearing up to launch yet another Ace series model in the Chinese market.

According to the latest report, the OnePlus Ace 2 smartphone will soon get a new model powered by the MediaTek Dimensity processor instead of Qualcomm’s chipset.

OnePlus Ace 2

The report claims that the OnePlus Ace 2 Dimensity Edition will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 processor. Further, the phone’s screen will be replaced by a 1.5K flat-screen display. It is also expected to be a bit cheaper than the current model.

This will be the first time OnePlus adopts Dimensity 9000 SoC in the Ace lineup. The chipset, which was announced last year, is a flagship offering from MediaTek, manufactured by TSMC using a 4nm process.

Apart from the processor and display, everything else will remain the same as the standard model. It features a 6.74-inch AMOLED display that offers a 1.5K resolution with 2772 × 1240 pixels, 1450 nits of peak brightness, 100 percent DCI P3 color gamut, 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, and adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz.

It comes with 5177mm² eight channel heat dissipation VC cooling, which the company claims is based on an exclusive black technology for an improved heat dissipation that is twice as effective as typical VC liquid cooling mechanisms.

In the camera department, there’s a 50-megapixel primary Sony IMX890 sensor that supports OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and has a 1/1.56-inch size and f/1.8 aperture. It is paired with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens and a 2-megapixel macro camera. On the front side, the phone features a 16-megapixel snapper for taking selfies and video calling.

The smartphone runs the Android 13 operating system out-of-the-box with the company’s own ColorOS 13 custom user interface on top. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 100W SuperVOOC charging.

YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki Is Stepping Down; Neal Mohan To Take Over

Susan Wojcicki, who is YouTube’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and one of the most prominent women in Silicon Valley, has announced that she is stepping down from her role at the world’s most popular video-sharing platform.

In a letter to employees, she says that she will start a new chapter focused on my family, health, and personal projects. Wojcicki will still be involved with Google and Alphabet moving forward but in an advisory role.

YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki

Susan Wojcicki has been a significant part of Google ever since the company was formed. In the early days of Google, the company was headquartered in Ms. Wojcicki’s garage. Google’s founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, are her personal friends, and after becoming one of the earliest employees of the company, she climbed the ranks and became responsible for YouTube after its acquisition by Google, making the video platform one of the world’s largest social media companies.

Neal Mohan, who is YouTube’s Chief Product Officer, will take over her responsibilities. Interestingly, Mohan will be the Senior Vice-President and Head of YouTube rather than the CEO. He helped to launch YouTube TV, YouTube Music, Premium, and Shorts and has also led the platform’s trust and safety team.

Talking about Neal Mohan, Wojcicki says, “with all we’re doing across Shorts, streaming and subscriptions, together with the promises of AI, YouTube’s most exciting opportunities are ahead, and Neal is the right person to lead us.”

Among her earlier roles, she was the first product manager of AdSense and also played a role in the earliest Google Doodles. She encouraged the company to acquire YouTube and, years later, was leading the platform as its CEO. YouTube has now become an important part of Google and Alphabet, accounting for over 10 percent of the company’s total revenue last year.

ASML claims Ex Chinese Employee stole Data on Lithography Technology

ASML has reported that an employee from China stole data on Lithography System Details from its chip machine depository. The employee who worked in ASML’s China-based company allegedly stole data from a repository that stores the company’s technical information.

ASML has not elaborated on the nature of the theft nor the importance of the stolen data. However, sources report that the breach occurred in the facility that also had the data for the advanced EUV Lithography machines. The lithography machines are one of the hottest items of the decade as they create the chips used in almost everything from smart computing, home devices, EVs, and Communication devices to military weapons and spaceships.

Dutch Trade Minister Liesje Schreinemacher called the incident economic espionage and said the investigation was underway and they were waiting for the results.

source: ASML

ASML Holdings is a Dutch multinational corporation that specializes in the development and manufacturing of photolithography machines, used to produce computer chips. As of 2022, it is the largest supplier of the semiconductor industry and the only company in the world that makes and supplies extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) photolithography machines used to manufacture the most advanced chips.

ASML is one of the highest-valued European Tech companies in the world and a key player in the ongoing US-China Tech War. The technology war that started in 2018 when the Trump administration banned Huawei and ZTE equipment is now escalated with the ban on exports of semiconductors to China. The US sanctions prohibit exports of semiconductors, chip manufacturing machines, technical know-how, and personnel to Chinese companies. The Biden administration successfully roped in allies like Japan and Netherlands to also impose these sanctions on China.

US and China are trying to outrun each other in a global technology race and companies like ASML are stuck in the middle of their fight. The Dutch company has already been a target of multiple thefts and data breaches. Last year ASML accused a Beijing-based firm of stealing important data back in 2015. It has also claimed that a company named Dongfang Jingyuan Electron has obtained sensitive technology and transferred it to China. A couple of months back, a male employee was also accused of stealing non-sensitive technical information.

According to the SCMP report, the most recent attack was on a product life cycle management program known as Teamcenter which stores technical information on product development made by different teams. Teamcenter is a software supplied by Siemens that is used by ASML employees.

Both ASML and Siemens have declined to comment on the incident. It is still not clear, how the employee stole the data from Teamcenter and whether or not he has any connections with the Chinese government or military. However, the latest data theft has escalated the trade war. The US and its allies are labeling the incident as espionage and have involved top-level diplomats in the investigation.

Oppo Reno 10 Series Display & Camera Specifications Leak

Oppo Reno 9 series was unveiled in China in November last year and while there’s no news about its global launch, rumors about the next-gen Reno 10 lineup have also started to pick up. Previous reports claimed the series will debut in India in the first or second week of February but that doesn’t seem to be happening. While we wait for an official announcement, a reputed tipster has revealed some key specs of the standard Reno 10 and supposedly the Reno 10 Pro+. Here are the details.

Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station revealed the display and camera specifications of the two Reno 10 series models. The tipster claims the standard Reno10 will feature a 6.7-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution. The handset may get a 2x portrait lens on its back and a 32MP selfie shooter on the front.

OPPO-Reno-9-Pro-Plus

The higher-end model, likely the Reno 10 Pro+, is also reported to arrive with an OLED display but with a better 1.5K (1220 x 2712 px) resolution display. In addition, it is said to pack a 50MP Sony IMX890 main camera sensor and an additional periscope lens. It could be powered by a 4,600 mAh dual-cell battery.

Previous reports suggest Reno 10 Pro+ may get an 8MP ultrawide as well. It is reported to support 80W fast charging and run Android 13-based ColorOS 13 out of the box. Details about the smartphone’s chipset are still unknown. We expect it to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU or a MediaTek Dimensity 5G-capable chipset.

Currently, there’s no official word about the Reno 10 series. Media reports have claimed Oppo will skip the Reno 9 series launch in India and will directly bring the Oppo Reno 10 series. Stay tuned for the updates.

Xiaomi 13 Ultra’s Leaked Image Shows Revamped Design & Leica-tuned Camera Setup

Xiaomi will be unveiling its latest number series on the global market later this month. The new series, which should include Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 13 Pro, and Xiaomi 13 lite, will be announced during the MWC Barcelona scheduled for February 26. Rumors suggest the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is also in the works but it won’t be released anytime soon. However, thanks to a leaked image, we get to take a look at its design.

An alleged live image of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra has been making rounds on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. The image showcases the device with a large circular camera module with Leica branding in the middle. We can see the module houses 4 cameras and an LED flash. The back of the device appears to have a vegan leather finish.

Xiaomi 13 Ultra

While the design of the device looks very similar to the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, there are a few notable changes. For one, the camera module is protruding less on the 13 Ultra than it did on the 12S Ultra. Also, it seems that the back of the smartphone has been partitioned into two parts, with the upper part raised.

Do note that the image embedded above is not verified and it could very well be a fake. Previous reports have revealed the Xiaomi 13 Ultra will have a 50MP Sony IMX989 1-inch camera sensor, accompanied by an improved periscope camera. In addition, the handset will sport a Samsung E6 Super AMOLED display with curved edges.

Xiaomi had already confirmed that the next-gen Xiaomi Ultra smartphone will be available for purchase in the global market as well. Currently, there’s no information about the device’s launch date. We’ll keep an eye out for any new developments.

Tesla will Temporarily Shut Down Giga Shanghai for Upgrades

Tesla is going to shut down parts of its mega factory Giga Shanghai, this weekend. The production lines of Giga Shanghai will be closed for upgrading the manufacturing plant that will roll out the upcoming Tesla Model 3 Refresh.

source: Tesla

According to Bloomberg, people familiar with the matter said that the plant has two phases for vehicle manufacturing, and some workers on the first phase won’t be allowed on production lines from as soon as Sunday, as the work on improving them is undertaken. The factory upgrades will take almost a month to complete and will directly affect the production and assembly of the new Model 3 which is expected to launch soon in China.

Last month Tesla failed to get approval for expanding its Giga Shanghai factory from Chinese authorities. Though the Chinese government did not give an official reason for withholding the license, experts suggested that the delay was due to Beijing’s concerns over data security, related to Starlink. Tesla CEO Elon Musk is also the head of the internet-from-space initiative Starlink, and government authorities are worried about security issues relating to the satellite internet project.

Giga Shanghai and Model 3 Refresh

Giga Shanghai also known as Gigafactory 3 is Tesla’s first overseas factory located in Shanghai, China. Established in 2018, it is one of the five Gigafactories owned by Tesla. The factory specializes in assembling both Model 3 a compact Sedan and Model Y a crossover.

Source: Tesla

The Tesla Model 3 Refresh is a soon-to-be-launched, upgraded version of the Model 3. It is an important project for the company, as Tesla aims to make a comeback in China using the Model 3 Refresh.

Code-named project ‘Highland’, the Model 3 Refresh will use Teslas’ largest casting technology. This new technology helps the company to increase its manufacturing efficiency and has already been used on Tesla Model Y.  The company remains tight-lipped about the exact upgrades for the refresh model. Still, images of the camouflaged test drives in California show that the new model will have a significant facelift. The new model is expected to come with Tesla’s Hardware 4.0 and weigh less than its predecessor.

Tesla the pioneer and global leader in Electric Vehicles was once the number one EV seller in China. But last year, it was overthrown by Chinese EV maker BYD. BYD the Shenzen-based car maker sold a record number of  EVs in 2022 and dethroned Tesla as the number one EV seller in the world.

Tesla faces stiff competition from companies like BYD and Nio Inc. which are dominating the Chinese market. To outpace the competition, the company is now pushing for the launch of the Model 3 Refresh and rushing to upgrade its facilities.

The company will unveil the vanilla Xiaomi 13, the higher-end Xiaomi 13 Pro, and a stripped-down Xiaomi 13 Lite internationally on February 26. However, it seems the brand will also launch new wearables pretty soon. The Xiaomi Smart Band 8 has bagged the TDRA certificate with model number M2239B1 while the Watch S2 has received it with model number M2207W1. The certification authority did not reveal any specifications of the two devices but confirmed their global launch.

Currently, the details about the Xiaomi Band 8 are pretty scarce. It is expected to be the successor of the Xiaomi Band 7, which was unveiled last year. You can expect the smart band to feature all the general fitness tracking features as well as a large display. ZTE Teases the Nubia Pad 3D Launching on February 28 at MWC 2023

The 2023 Mobile World Congress (MWC) will see the launch of the ZTE Nubia Pad 3D. The Nubia Pad 3D will highlight ZTE’s current 5G technologies and it offers 3D effects without needing special glasses. The Nubia Pad 3D will be showcased on February 28 at the ZTE booth during MWC 2023.

Nubia Pad 3D

A Weibo post provided the details of the unveiling of the ZTE Nubia Pad 3D. The tablet is claimed to be the world’s first AI technology for images in three dimensions. The advanced technologies on display with the Nubia Pad 3D will simulate 3D effects. The engine will track your eyes and simulate the three-dimensional image without the aid of special glasses. It also does not require a special parallax barrier display for the 3D images.

The ZTE Nubia Pad 3D has two front-facing cameras and a thin bezel. There is a big sensor between the two camera sensors, which probably delivers the 3D effects. The implementation mechanism for the 3D effect looks fuzzy at best. However, we expect the Nubia Pad 3D to be further illuminated during MWC 2023.

Nubia Pad 3D

The event will take place in Barcelona, Spain and the ZTE booth is in Hall 3 of Fira Gran Via. More details will be provided, including specs and availability/ pricing information will be provided at the launch. It will be really interesting and captivating to see the world’s first-ever AI-engineered 3D image viewer.
