PC Shipments Experience Sharp Decline in the Holiday Season

During the holiday season, PC shipments had their largest-ever decrease, with sales statistics coming to show the full impact of the loss. According to IDC, PC shipments decreased by 28%, while Gartner estimated a 28.5% decrease and Canalys a 29% decrease. Since the 1990s, Gartner has been keeping tabs on the computer industry, and this represents the worst quarterly decline they have ever seen.

Several reasons may have contributed to the fall in PC shipments. The need for remote working tools has declined as more individuals return to work. The rise in PC sales during the epidemic is mainly attributed to the remote working trend. Employees are no longer obliged to work from home as regularly as they formerly were as more businesses adopt hybrid working methods. This has resulted in a decline in the demand for PCs.

A weakening global economy has also given many people less money to invest in renovations. Leading manufacturers have suffered double-digit losses, with Dell and Acer suffering the worst losses, with shipments falling by 37% and 41%, respectively. Lenovo and HP had huge drops of 29% and 28%, respectively. Retailers and distributors have also been impacted by the fall in PC shipments in addition to PC makers. Due to the reduction in sales, several of them have seen a decline in their revenues and earnings. Additionally, this has caused a drop in the value of their shares.

Analysts are cautiously hopeful about the future of the PC industry despite the drop. Canalys and IDC have forecast a resurgence for the latter half of 2023 or 2024. According to them, postponed purchases would start boosting the market in late 2023, with momentum building in 2024 after firms and consumers have weathered the storm. People will start spending more on upgrades as the global economy strengthens, which will enhance PC sales.

However, according to Gartner researcher Mikako Kitagawa, the slump may last until the start of 2024. She believes that the market might not bounce back as rapidly as some think. She believes that it may take some time for the market to fully recover and that it could be a slow process.

The fact that shipments in 2022 are still “far above” pre-pandemic levels should be noted. However, as neither Gartner nor IDC anticipate a market recovery before 2024, PC manufacturers may need to consider new models and price reductions to remain competitive. Although the PC industry may now be struggling, with the anticipated recovery, PC producers may look forward to brighter times in the future. They have to concentrate on developing fresh items that address the shifting demands of their clients.

In conclusion, while there was a noticeable decrease in PC shipments over the holiday season, there is no need for concern. Manufacturers and retailers should concentrate on adjusting to the shifting market conditions because it is anticipated that the market will revive in the upcoming years. They can weather the storm and come out on the other side stronger if they have the right plans in place.

Google Pixel 6 units suffer from odd Dark Circles on their display

The Google Pixel 6 series was launched back in 2021 and saw many praises across the board. However, the device suffered from various software related issues soon after that turned away many buyers. While most of these were fixed soon after, it appears that some Pixel 6 units are now facing a mysterious hardware issue too now.

As per a few Reddit users, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro models are facing an odd issue that affects the display of these devices. One of the Pixel 6 series users stated that the Pixel 6 Pro had a dark circle or spot on the display. This issue is not an isolated incident, since other Redditors also claimed that they have also seen a mysterious spot on their Pixel series models as well. Although, this dark circle is typically only visible from an angle and not when you’re directly viewing at the screen straight on.

Google

Furthermore, it is not noticeable when the display is turned on. So it doesn’t affect the user experience directly. As per some of the users, these spots might have been created by air or some moisture trapped under the glass of the display panel. One Redditor stated that “My wife has something similar on her P6. I read somewhere citric acid can damage the screen coating. She had been making a lemon cake a few hours before we spotted it, so I’d say there is a good chance that was it.”

One Pixel 6 owner claimed that this Pixel 6 had around 12 little spots on his phone’s screen. While another stated that “I got two spots too, and I know what is in my case, I vape, I saw how a drop of liquid fell on the screen and left the stain, it seems that the oil protector of the screen is bad.” It remains to be seen if its the fault of the users, or whether its some other form of hardware defect that surfaces over time.

OnePlus

In other words, other regions should get the update soon after. This also marks the first major Android update since the device’s launch back in May 2022. Along with the major software upgrade, the roll out also brings the December 2022 security patch and a ton of new features and improvements. The most notable addition is the Aquamorphic Design theme colors, which claims to offer an enhanced visual comfort along with other visual changes that follow a similar philosophy.

Apart from this, there are also various optimizations in performance. This includes the Dynamic Computing Engine that improve the system speed, stability, battery life, and app experience. Additionally, there are also upgrades to the HyperBoost GPA 4.0 to stabilize the frame rate and balance the performance and power consumption in various situations. New Vivo X Flip Mockup Reveals Details About The Foldable Display

The upcoming vivo X Flip is set to become the next clamshell foldable smartphone on the market, with a launch scheduled for this quarter. More information about the phone’s cover display and design has recently appeared in a fresh mockup.

A sliver of aluminum will serve as the hinge on the X Flip, which will have a design resembling that of the X90 series. The X Flip will feature a design similar to the X90 series, with a sliver of aluminum serving as the hingeisland, the external screen will be 682 pixels wide and have a vertical rectangular form. Only two lenses will be used in the camera arrangement, leaving an area for the ZEISS logo.

The internal display of the X Flip will have a width of 1080 pixels, matching other flip-foldable smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, Oppo Fold, and Motorola Razr that are presently available. The only device with a slightly bigger screen and a higher ppi density is the Huawei Mate Xs.

The volume rocker and power key are both visible on the right side of the device. It appears like the power key will have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner because it is level with the side. The twin camera system is not a surprise, as adding more cameras would often result in smaller sensors and ultimately worse camera performance.

Acer launches new Aspire 3 laptops powered by Intel Alder Lake-N CPUs

Intel’s Alder Lake-N processors will be used in a new Aspire 3 series model, according to Acer. Although Raptor Lake replaces Alder Lake processors for the most part, Intel displayed the Alder Lake-N series at CES 2023 as a low-power alternative to its new U- and P-series chips.

The new Aspire 3 is currently available from Acer in 14-inch and 15.6-inch sizes. The Core i3-N305 processor powers both devices, despite differences in size, keyboard design, and display type. For context, the Core i3-N305 has no P-cores, no Intel Hyper-Threading capability, and eight E-cores running at 3.8 GHz. The processor also features a UHD Graphics Xe 750 iGPU with 32 Execution Units and a 15 W TDP.

Acer adds 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, most likely LPDDR5-4800, to the processor. Both Aspire 3 variants include a 3-cell Li-Polymer battery that allows 45 W charging and 256 GB of NVMe SSD storage. The laptops will feature multiple ports including 1 x 3.5 mm jack, 1 x DC power-in, 1 x HDMI, 1 x Kensington lock slot, 2 x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A, 1 x USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C.

Although Acer claims that the 15.6-inch variant features an RJ45 Ethernet connector, none of the marketing images show one. According to rumors, the larger model also comes with an IPS display, which should offer better viewing angles and color reproduction than the TN panel found in the 14-inch model. Acer has not yet confirmed any further display specs like peak brightness or color accuracy, although both are 1080p monitors with 16:9 aspect ratios. Naturally, the 15.6-inch is heavier and bigger than the 14-inch, but Acer has made use of the extra width to incorporate a dedicated number pad.

The Aspire 3 14 weighs 1.4 kg and measures 32.7 x 21.6 x 1.9 cm, which is just slightly less than the Aspire 13 15’s measurements of 36.3 x 23.9 x 1.9 cm and 1.7 kg. There isn’t much of a difference in their costs as Acer charges US$479.99 for the 14-inch model and US$499.99 for the 15.6-inch one.

Apple To Reportedly Launch New AirPods Max and Cheaper AirPods Early Next Year

Apple has a very successful lineup of audio products in the form of AirPods, especially the in-ear true wireless earbuds. The company also regularly releases a new model to ensure it remains at the top of the game compared to its competitors.

While AirPods are still the bestselling true wireless earbuds in the world, they are priced on the higher side and not within everyone’s reach. But that could soon change as the company is reportedly gearing up to launch a low-cost model of AirPods early next year.

Apple AirPods

A well-known Apple analyst Ming Chi-Kuo claims that Apple is planning to launch a more affordable standard AirPods, which could cost around $99. Along with that, the company is also working on the second generation of AirPods Max, over-ear headphones.

It is being claimed that the mass shipment of both these products, the cheaper $99 AirPods and the second generation AirPods Max could take place in the first or second quarter of 2024 or in early 2025.

Currently, the cheapest AirPods model available in the market is the second-generation AirPods, costing $129, while the newer third-generation model is priced at $169 and comes with a Lightning charging case, while the one with MagSafe case costs $179.

It remains to be seen what features Apple brings to the cheaper AirPods and how it differentiates from other models, given that the second-gen model is usually available at a discounted price of $99.
