Xiaomi ends software support for Redmi 8, Redmi 8A, Redmi K30 5G, & POCO X2

Xiaomi has just updated its EOS list and added a couple of new smartphones. This means that the company has basically ended the software support for some Redmi and a Poco phones. So let’s have a look.

Looking at the EOS list, the Chinese tech giant is ending the support life for the Redmi 8, Redmi 8A, Redmi K30 5G, and even the POCO X2 smartphone models. For those unaware, the EOS list basically signifies that your device has reached the end of its official support from the company. This means that it will eventually become outdated and will have a risk involved since it no longer receives any security patch updates. So by this time, it is typically recommended to upgrade to a newer model.

Xiaomi

And as of just yesterday, the POCO X2, Redmi K30, Redmi K30 5G, Redmi 8, and Redmi 8A have been added to this list. So they will no longer receive any form of software support from Xiaomi. While many POCO X2 users had been waiting for the MIUI 13 update, it is clear that this will never be the case and there are no plans for an update at the moment. For those unaware, the stable MIUI 13 build was tested on this phone back in April 2022, although the company did not release this update due to various bugs and other issues.

So for those that want to have an up to date handset model that is also not vulnerable to potential security risk, buying a new phone is the best option. This doesn’t mean that the aforementioned phones are immediately at risk, but over time they are much more vulnerable than phones that are still being supported by the brand.

TSMC To Start Mass Production Of Next-Gen 3nm Chips This Week

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, aka TSMC, which is the world’s largest foundry, is all set to start the mass production of its 3nm chips this week.

Apple, which is among the top customers for the Taiwan-based company, will be the primary customer for the chips manufactured using this new process and will be a part of the tech giant’s M2 lineup.

TSMC Logo

As per the report, TSMC will start mass production of 3nm chips on 29th December, Thursday, which is in line with the previous reports, which indicated that the company could start mass production of the 3nm node process by the end of the year.

It is said that TSMC will hold a ceremony at Fab 18 at the Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP) on December 29 to mark the start of commercial production of chips using 3nm process technology. It will also detail plans to expand 3nm chip production at the fab, according to sources at semiconductor equipment companies.

For Apple, before the A17 Bionic chip for the upcoming iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Ultra models, the Cupertino-based company is expected to place orders for the 3nm M2 Pro chip, which will be powering the upcoming MacBook Pro and the Mini Mini. Both these chips, A17 Bionic and M2 Pro, are expected to ship later next year.

Samsung is also able to mass produce 3nm chips using Gate-All-Around (GAA) transistors, allowing more precise control of current flow through each transistor and improved power efficiency. TSMC will be using FinFET transistors for the 3nm node but will adopt GAA transistors for the 2nm chips, which is likely to happen in 2025.

Google Pixel 7 users complain of glass on rear camera cracking

Google has faced a rocky launch cycle with its Pixel 6 series of smartphones. The 2021 flagship lineup were riddled with bugs soon after launch and also faced various other issues. Now, users of the newer Pixel 7 series have also began complaining of a new problem and it appears to be a big problem.

In the past, we have reported on the Pixel 6 series suffering from an issue that made its under display fingergrint scanner slow or unreliable at times. Similarly, they were even issues with its WiFi network and more. Fortunately, the Pixel 7’s launch was a lot better, although it still had its fair share of hiccups. Owners of the Pixel 7 phones have now taken to Twitter and Reddit to show that their device’s rear camera module’s bar glass has began cracking.

Google

According to one of the tweets stated that, “Not even a month, no drops just regular use. Have a case on the phone. Been told Its my problem. Is this really the quality control backed by google? It’s clearly a manufacturing defect, and I know I’m not the only one. Please fix this google!” In other words, it appears that the company’s units might have a defect considering the rear camera glass is shattering without any physical damage.

Similarly on Reddit, a user said that “I pulled my phone out of my pocket and the back camera glass was broken. I must have hit a corner while it was in my pocket. Has anyone else had this problem? I called around to the phone fixing stores and nobody has the replacement parts yet. Don’t really want to have to mail this phone in to have it fixed as it’s currently the only phone I have.” These aren’t far and few in between either since there were multiple reports that faced a similar issue. Google has yet to officially acknowledge this problem, so stick around for more updates.

Design

These three phones look very similar if we talk about the design, but there is a better one in this comparison. It is the Realme 10: while the rear sides of these phones are almost identical, the 4G variant is the only one with a punch-hole display. All the other variants come with an ugly waterdrop notch on the screen. Just because of that, the Realme 10 is the most beautiful one. But that is not all, it is also the most compact of the trio because it is equipped with a smaller display. This said, there is no much more to say about the minimalistic designs of these phones.

Display

Besides having the best design, the Realme 10 also comes with the most advanced display panel. Indeed, it is the only one with a Super AMOLED panel, showing more vivid colors and deeper blacks thanks to this technology. It is a display with a diagonal of 6.4 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, and a 90 Hz refresh rate, as well as a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. The Realme 10 5G and the Realme 10s have the same display: a wider panel with a diagonal of 6.6 inches, a Full HD+ resolution, and a 90 Hz refresh rate, but it is an IPS LCD display and not an AMOLED one.

Specs & Software

The most advanced hardware is the one found on the Realme 10s. First of all, it has a better processor: the Dimensity 810 built at 6 nm and sporting the 5G connectivity and an octa-core architecture. The Helio G99 found on the Realme 10 is slightly more powerful than the Dimensity 700 found on the Realme 10 5G, but only the latter supports the 5G connectivity. On all of these phones, the most advanced memory configuration comes with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of native storage you can furtherly expand with a micro SD. Further, all of them run Android 12 out of the box, customized by Realme UI 3.0. And they will most likely get two years of major Android updates.

Camera

There are very marginal differences between the cameras of these devices, but if you want the best rear camera setup, then you should go for the Realme 10 5G. Besides the 50 MP main camera and the 2 MP macro shooter also found on the other handsets of the trio, this phone adds a depth sensor. On the other hand, the vanilla Realme 10 has a better selfie camera with a 16 MP resolution instead of just 8 MP.

Battery

These three devices feature exactly the same battery, with a capacity of 5000 mAh. The battery supports 33W fast charging able to reach 50 percent of charge in 30 minutes. Despite the battery capacity being the same, the Realme 10 is able to last more on a single charge because its display is more efficient.

Price

Realme 10 starts from $245/€230, Realme 10 5G from $191/€180, and Realme 10s from $160/€150. Which one would you pick?

OnePlus Buds Pro 2

The specifications and design of the new earbuds are already out. They will look very similar to the original OnePlus Buds Pro, with minor changes here and there. We were able to spot a few differences. For instance, the stem of the buds has a microphone cutout that seems twice as large as before. The earbuds have the same two-tone design that includes matte plastic on top and glossy plastic below.

As mentioned, the hearables are tuned jointly with Dynaudio and support 4000Hz ultra-wideband vocal noise cancellation. They can eliminate up to 99.6% of effective noise. In terms of sound quality, the buds will have an acoustic system with a frequency response range of 10Hz~40KHz.

A previous report revealed that the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 will be equipped with two driver units of 11mm and 6mm. The earbuds are said to offer 6 hours of battery life with ANC enabled, and 9 hours with ANC disabled. This can be extended up to 22/38 hours with the charging case.
