Samsung Electronics DX Division Shifts to Emergency Mode; Cuts Off Expenses

Samsung has a separate division for its TVs, cellphones, and home appliances called Device Experience (DX). According to reports, the company has now been forced to shut off the division’s spending and put it in emergency status. The Korean IT giant has also reduced the frequency of international business travel and international marketing events, as well as cut other expenses in half. According to Samsung, the recent switch to emergency mode was caused by high currency and interest rates, supply chain problems, and declining customer demand in the present current economy.

According to Samsung, the current economic crisis is unprecedented. “We are experiencing a decline in TV and home appliance sales,” a company official told BusinessKorea. “We can hardly anticipate a speedy sales recovery at this point.” A financial information provider called FnGuide predicts that Samsung Electronics’ operational profit will drop by around 29% from the current year to 33.38 trillion won in 2023.

Samsung

The article also claims that Samsung’s new cost-cutting initiative will cut back on travel and expenses for abroad shows, including the CES in Las Vegas in 2023. Samsung may or may not be on the exhibition floor, but the company plans to have virtual events, or video conferences, to introduce new products. The economic outlook around Samsung Electronics is getting worse every day. The international market for smartphones, TVs, and home appliances has been locked by inflation and geopolitical turmoil.

The DX Division’s total operating profit for the first three quarters of this year was 11.9 trillion won, down 20.4% (2.84 trillion won) from 13.93 trillion won in the same period of 2021. According to market research companies, the market will be worse in 2023 than it is now. Total financial costs for Samsung during the same period were 14,265.8 billion won, up 137.5 per cent from 6,007.2 billion won during the same time last year. Losses from derivatives, losses from currency exchange, and interest costs are among the financial expenses.

Problematically, the economic conditions of emerging nations, which make up a large portion of Samsung Electronics’ primary markets, are deteriorating as a result of a strong dollar and rising interest rates. The inventory assets of the DX Division were 27,097.4 trillion won as of the end of September, an increase of 12,831.6 trillion won over the previous twelve months.

Foxconn to Boost iPhone Production in its Indian Plant, Invests $500 Million

Foxconn, the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer, announced on Thursday that its Singapore company had paid $500 million for 4.08 million shares in Foxconn Hon Hai Technology India Mega Development Private Limited (~ INR 100 crore). The business is planning to boost the production of its Telangana plant in the country. This news came after the disputes happened over the Foxconn unit in China. Anyway, this would generate as many as 53,000 new employees and that could be great news for both the country and local people.

After Reuters reported last month that Foxconn, an Apple supplier, planned to quadruple the workforce at its iPhone factory in India over the course of two years, two government officials with knowledge of the matter pointed to a production adjustment as it faces disruptions in China as the reason behind the $500 million infusion into its India unit. According to insiders, Foxconn intends to hire 53,000 more workers over the next two years, bringing the total number of employees at its plant in southern India up to 70,000.

Foxconn

According to a government source, the company informed Tamil Nadu officials of its plans to step up hiring at the Indian facility as a result of disruptions in China. Meanwhile, a person in Taiwan with knowledge of the situation claimed that Foxconn was expanding its operations in India to boost its capacity for entry-level models and to satisfy Indian demand. Foxconn announced on Thursday that the factory had relaxed its “closed-loop” management limits. The company made headlines in recent weeks for implementing tight COVID-19 controls at its Zhengzhou production in China, which led to worker dissatisfaction.

By 2025, according to JPMorgan analysts, Apple may produce one out of every four iPhones in India as the tech giant shifts some of its manufacturing away from China due to rising geopolitical tensions and tight COVID-19 lockdowns in that nation. According to reports, Pegatron, a Taiwanese contract manufacturer for Apple, started building the new iPhone 14 in India last month. Both Foxconn and Pegatron manufacture Apple’s newest iPhone 14 in India; Foxconn started doing it in September.

Apple M2 Max Geekbench Scores Leak, Revealing Performance Boost

The Apple Silicon M series processors are a range of chips designed by Apple. They are built on the ARM architecture and are used in the company’s Mac computers. The M series offers high performance and energy efficiency, making them ideal for laptops and tablets. Apple released its first M series processor, the M1, in 2020, followed by the M1 Max, M1 Pro, and M2. Now the M2 Max is next. Lastly, the performance of the highly anticipated processor has finally appeared on Geekbench.

More Apple M2 Max benchmarks leak, show better performance

The second set of purported M2 Max Geekbench results have been spotted online, and they show a significant improvement over a previous leak. The first M2 Max benchmarks were seen on Geekbench in November, but they failed to show much of an improvement over its predecessor, the M1 Max. However, a new Geekbench entry now shows a substantial difference.

Apple Silicon M2 Max processors

The previous M2 Max figures showed a single-core score of 1853 and a multi-core score of 13855, while the new figures are single-core 2027 and multi-core 14888. In both cases, the benchmarks identify the device as Mac14,6. References to this model were first spotted in July 2022, but it is still unclear whether it refers to a new Mac Studio or a MacBook Pro.

It is also possible that the figures are fabricated, but if they are accurate, they also show what is responsible for the difference between the November leak and this one. The previous data showed that the Mac had one 12-core processor running at 3.54 GHz, while the new data shows the same number of cores but a clock speed of 3.68 GHz.

If the M2 Max does exist, it is not expected to be released until 2023. There were persistent rumors that there would be an M2 MacBook Pro in November 2022, but Tim Cook’s comments suggest that this will now be released next year.

Unlike the first-gen, which only had a single model, the second-gen will consist of two handsets. They are officially called Oppo Find N2 and Oppo Find N2 Flip.

The regular Find N2 will be the follow-up to the original Find N. It will be a horizontal folding foldable smartphone that turns into a tablet when unfolded. Unfortunately, it may remain exclusive to China.

On the other hand, the Find N2 Flip will be a vertical folding foldable smartphone. In other words, it will be a clamshell foldable. Oppo is said to release it in international markets. Multiple Ex-Twitter Workers Fill Lawsuit Against Elon Musk for Mass Layoffs

The agreement between Elon Musk and Twitter was recently confirmed. Soon after, Elon took full control of Twitter and made numerous changes to the platform within the first week. One of them was the mass termination of staff. Thousands of Twitter employees have had their jobs terminated. And, yes, it all happened in a few days. Many employees were upset with Elon’s choice and filed a lawsuit against him shortly after the mass layoffs.

Now, plenty of other ex-Twitter employees have filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk for illegal dismissal. Furthermore, another lawsuit has been filed against the platform in San Francisco for converting the work office into a bedroom, allowing employees to sleep on the job.

Elon Musk

In a statement, lawyer Shannon Liss-Riordan, who is bringing one of these cases against Elon Musk, said, “It’s really troubling that the richest man in the world believes he can walk all over employee rights and not have to respect the law, and we intend to hold him accountable.” The lawyer’s word for Elon does not appear to be good either. He claims that certain employees are not receiving the monetary compensation and other benefits promised to them before Musk’s takeover.

Lawyers argue that this was a secret layoff scheme that violated California law by failing to provide workers with the appropriate compensation and a 60-day notice period. Other claims are being made in response to Musk’s stern demand that employees either sign up for his vision for the company and adopt a “hardcore” work ethic or accept three months’ pay and leave. In either instance, it violates the law, according to the statement. Musk’s hatred of working from home is also being challenged, with staff with impairments or health issues considering demands to return to the office as unfair.

So, yes. That was all there was to the news. In legal terms, things are clearly not going well for the platform or Elon Musk. Let’s watch how and when the legal bodies rule on this, and how Musk handles the situation.

Google Chrome Will Now Consume Much Less RAM And Energy

Google Chrome is a widely popular web browser due to its fast speed and user-friendly interface. However, it is also known for being a resource-intensive browser that can consume a significant amount of battery and system memory. This can be particularly frustrating for users with low-power devices or those who multitask while browsing the web. Luckily, this problem will solve with the new features.

New Google Chrome features to save battery and make browsing smoother

Google has announced that it will be optimizing its Chrome web browser for battery and system memory. The company will be rolling out new performance settings that will reduce Chrome’s memory usage by up to 40% to improve the stability of open tabs. The new modes, called Memory Saver and Energy Saver, will be available globally for Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS in the coming weeks.

Memory Saver mode is designed to help users who have many tabs open at the same time. It will reduce the memory usage of each tab, allowing users to keep more tabs open without causing their device to slow down. Memory Saver mode frees up memory from tabs you aren’t currently using so the active websites you’re browsing have the smoothest possible experience. This is especially useful if you’re running other intensive applications, like editing family videos or playing games. Any inactive tabs will be reloaded when you need them.

Energy Saver mode is designed to help users extend their device’s battery life while using Chrome. It will automatically activate when a user’s device battery level drops to 20%, and it will reduce energy consumption by limiting background activity and visual effects for websites with animations and videos. This can be particularly useful for users who rely on their devices for long periods of time without access to a power source.

These new modes are part of Google’s ongoing efforts to improve the performance and efficiency of Chrome. The company has also recently introduced other features, such as tab grouping and tab search, to help users manage their open tabs more efficiently. With the addition of Memory Saver and Energy Saver modes, Chrome users will have even more control over how the browser uses their device’s resources. You can find these controls under the three-dot menu in Chrome.

Twitter to Deactivate 1.5 Billion Accounts!

Elon Musk, who acquired Twitter for $44 billion and has been making controversial decisions since then, has announced a new decision regarding the platform. The announcement stated that 1.5 billion accounts that have not been active on Twitter for years will be deleted in the near future. All data associated with these accounts will be erased from the database.

Twitter will deactivate 1.5 billion accounts permanently

Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced that the social media platform will be deactivating 1.5 billion user accounts that have not been active for a long time. This move is part of a larger effort by Twitter to improve the quality of its content and reduce the spread of misinformation on the platform. In his tweet, Musk said, “Twitter will soon start freeing the name space of 1.5 billion accounts.”

Musk stated that the company will be taking a more proactive approach to identifying and removing fake or inactive accounts. This includes accounts that have not logged in or made any posts on the platform for a significant period of time. The exact criteria for what constitutes an inactive account has not yet been announced.

The deactivation of these accounts is expected to have a significant impact on Twitter’s user base, as the company currently has around 330 million active users. It is not yet clear how long it will take to close all of the inactive accounts. Many Twitter users have expressed support for the decision, arguing that it will help improve the overall user experience on the platform. However, others have expressed concern that the move could result in legitimate users losing access to their accounts.

In response to these concerns, Musk stated that Twitter will be taking steps to ensure that no active users are affected by the deactivation of inactive accounts. This may include providing users with a grace period to log in and reactivate their accounts before they are deactivated. Overall, the decision to deactivate 1.5 billion inactive accounts is a bold move by Twitter to improve the quality of its content and protect its users from misinformation. It remains to be seen how this decision will impact the platform and its users in the long term.

Redmi K60 Gaming May Not Exist, Suggests Redmi GM’s Weibo Post

While responding about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2’s performance to a Weibo user, Redmi GM Lu Weibing recently said, “There is no need for e-sports phones in 2023, and e-sports phones are doomed to die out (machine translation).” This suggests that the company may not launch the Redmi K60 Gaming in 2023. To those who are unaware, Redmi launched the K50 Gaming, a gaming-focused phone, this year as a successor to last year’s Redmi K40 Gaming. A Weibo post by tipster Digital Chat Station suggests that the K60 Gaming will be replaced by the Redmi K60 Pro.

As can be seen below, reliable tipster Digital Chat Station shared a screengrab of Weibing’s Weibo post and said that the Redmi K60 Pro is very good at playing games and there is no need for the Redmi K60 Gaming edition. So, it looks like the K60 Gaming will be replaced by the Redmi K60 Pro, which may have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.

There is some confusion related to the Redmi K60 series’ specifications that have appeared so far. The following chart is based on Xiaomiui’s recent report.

Redmi K60 seriesModel numberDisplayChipsetChargingOS

Redmi K60 (Codename: Rembrandt)22127RK46C (China)

As can be seen, the Redmi K60 Pro is mentioned with Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 and the K60 is said to arrive with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

However, Digital Chat Station’s leak suggests that the K60 Pro may come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.

The POCO F5 5G is in the works for the global and Indian markets. It is likely to be a rebranded version of the SD8+G1 variant of the K60 series.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Series May Come With 25% Camera Performance Boost

As the release date for the Samsung Galaxy S23 series approaches, the number of leaks has increased. Recently, leakster Ice Universe shared information about the camera features of the upcoming phones. According to the leak, the camera on the Galaxy S23 series will have a 25% performance increase.

Samsung Galaxy S23 series will be able to shoot 8K 30 FPS video

According to popular leakster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), the Galaxy S23 series will have improved video recording capabilities. The Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra are rumored to have 8K video recording at 30 frames per second, a 25% improvement over the 8K at 24 frames per second that the Galaxy S22 series was capable of.

The ability to record 8K videos with a faster frame rate will likely reduce the motion blur and choppiness that is common with 24fps video. While many people still associate 24fps with the classic “cinematic film” look, having the option for 30fps video recording provides more possibilities for Galaxy S23 users who want to create videos. This could be useful for a variety of purposes, including creative projects.

According to the source, a more useful option for the Galaxy S23 series would be 4K video recording at 120 frames per second. This was not available on the Galaxy S22 series, including the top-of-the-line Galaxy S22 Ultra. The ability to shoot 4K videos at 120fps would allow users to slow down the footage to 30 or 24fps, creating a more cinematic look with slow motion effects. This would be a better improvement for the Galaxy S23 series compared to the 8K video recording feature, which some may consider to be a gimmick.

According to the source, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that will power the international version of the Galaxy S23 series supports “up to 8K 30fps or 4K 120fps video capture”. However, the way this is worded in the whitepaper is unclear, and it is not known if the manufacturer will be able to choose one or both options. As noted by Ice Universe, it seems that the 8K@30fps option may be chosen instead of the more flexible 4K@120fps.
